Return of the UFOs

A series of one-shots in no particular order of a world featuring an Earth Alliance and a galaxy during the time of the Earth-Minbari war, where the war is going badly even before meeting the Shadows. Discovering the existence of SHADO and of the UFOs, the Earth Alliance develops more advanced technology and fights the Minbari, and goes on to encounter other threats.

Return of the UFOs.

In his novel, The War of the Worlds, HG Wells described the Martians perfectly. He described them as "intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic," and in reality, the alien race who frequented Earth certainly proved that only too well, because their actions, borne out of desperation, were truly cold and disturbing.

The town was fairly remote in Britain. That was probably one of the reasons why the aliens decided to attack it; ever since the global war, known to future generations of humanity as World War II, began, the aliens had become extremely cautious about sending any expeditions to the planet in order to harvest organs and other tissues and capturing any human bodies to be used as vessels.

Ordinarily, war of any kind would be the perfect cover for the alien's operations. The aliens had been coming to Earth for several decades now, ever since their world was caught in a cosmic disaster and they had travelled through space, looking out for a compatible alien race they could make use of and they discovered Earth with its primitive but aggressively bright people, the human race, they had made use of the various wars going on on Earth to their advantage while avoiding the other pitiful races in the galaxy, from the powerful Minbari Federation and the Centauri Republic, which meant they couldn't be harvested as they would be more than fully prepared and equipped to mount a decent defence to get what they wanted.

But the human wars had gradually grown stronger. This one was no different; it was the largest war so far in human history, and the humans were showing signs of having the technology needed to detect them in the atmosphere, primitive though it was, they had radio technology that was surprisingly sophisticated which made radar a probability. The aliens couldn't risk visiting Earth unless they planned carefully their expeditions, and this one was no different with their military forces mobilised for attacks from Nazi Germany.

Monitoring of human communications wasn't tricky for them to crack; their technology, while digital in implementation could be switched to monitor analogue technology. They had been monitoring the various transmissions to understand that some human countries had become fascistic with emphasis placed on illogical race theories and ideologies that were baseless in the long term and in the gene pool.

But monitoring the humans' communiques and news broadcasts had made one thing perfectly clear to the satellite monitoring the planet; the humans were paranoid and would react if the aliens appeared. They decided the best way to infiltrate and collect the materials they needed to survive, was to wait for an air raid they could attack a town or settlement on the planet's surface and the resultant carnage would be blamed on the Germans or vice versa.

The town, attacked in 1942, just after the Battle of Britain, occurred when the aliens sent a small number of UFOs to Earth and they followed a squadron; the UFOs split up and attacked the town of their choice. Their scans had detected over 700 people there, and the aliens mind-controlled them to walk into their ships, where they were then slaughtered en masse or their minds were deleted and their bodies were animated by an alien which would give them fresh bodies for a short amount of time.

Once the aliens were finished, they simply bombed the town so thoroughly and with such violence that when the British authorities discovered when a local train service arrived at the remains of the station what had happened, they were horrified and shocked. While many of the houses and shops and the nearby station were bombed in a manner that resembled the bombings of cities like Newcastle and York, they didn't find anyone, any remains of any kind. Soldiers and travellers who resided there were only given word when they returned home and discovered the town was so thoroughly bombed nothing was left.

Naturally, nobody would realise what had happened and the British logged it as a German bombing.
