This story is a continuation of The Protectors, a story in which a Tribe known as the Chumash, used a Ritual called the Guardian Ritual to turn 6 teenagers into Protectors. Humans whose souls are bonded to animals' souls. Their presence changed alot in the Buffyverse.
Buffy died at the hands of the Master, as foretold by a prophecy in the Pergamon Codex. Xander, who is Alpha of the Sunnydale Protectors Pack, never learned CPR in this au, because he was being trained to fight monsters instead; there was no one there who was able to revive her.
Angel is also dead. He was captured by the Master's followers and tortured by Colin, the Anointed One, the child vampire, before being dusted by Colin.
Jesse never became a vampire or was accidentally staked by Xander. Jesse worked as a lifeguard instead of Xander and learned CPR and first aid. But he's not one of the Protectors and was not present when they fought the Master. He is training under Abigail Morris, Xander's grandmother's, to be a Medicine Man and Magic user.
Willow will never study Magic in this au. Instead, she is being trained to be a Watcher by Giles, who chose to remain in Sunnydale after Buffy's death. She will probably be hired by the Watchers Council after she graduates High School; they are watching her training closely. She has come out as gay to her friends by now, but not to the school or her parents.
Each of the Protectors is part of a mated pair. Xander and Cordelia are the Alphas, Kyle Defours and Rhonda Kelley are their Betas and Tor Hauer and Heidi Barrie are Pack members. Each pair has been together for three years, mated, which is considered the equivalent of marriage since the summer the Ritual was completed, when they were 15 1/2.
Ms. Calender is still alive and still living in Sunnydale. She and Giles are dating. Her past has never come up, so everyone is unaware that she originally came to Sunnydale to watch Angel, a vampire cursed with a soul. And since he's been dusted by Colin they probably won't but you never know, the past has a way of not staying buried in Sunnydale.
This story picks up at the beginning of senior year. Faith isn't in Sunnydale yet, but she will be. Kendra was still called, but because of the Council's insistence on Slayers fighting alone, without things like body armor, she still died, alone.
This story will cover some of the episodes from season three, but a few of the second seasons will be here too. Because some of them were alot of fun and I want to see how Faith reacts.
Faith and Buffy were different people. But they had something in common, besides being the Slayer, they lacked discipline, to different degrees. The Pack was raised with a great deal of discipline. One of their instructors was Xander's Uncle, a former Marine, from a Black Ops unit that hunted demons. This caused conflict between the Pack and Buffy. I imagine it will cause conflict between The Pack and Faith as well.
