So, things got a little weirder with the idea that there was an alien now living inside of Peter. It is a bit odd, considering when he wakes up, he is greeted by the creature in his head. Lois however didn't seem to see much of a problem with Venom hanging around since every morning, Venom would manage to cook food and coffee for them and even clean up for them quickly.
"You know, I am starting to like this little arrangement," Lois commented as she started to eat her breakfast. But she soon realized that the Symbiote wasn't that good of a cook. "But you guys should consider joining some cooking classes if you're gonna start cooking."
"Hey, he's doing it on his own free will. Trust me, I am sure not." Peter scoffed as the Symbiote got to work cleaning.
"Your knowledge contributes to my knowledge. Everything you know, I know." Venom informed him.
"Yeah, well, you better be prepared to behave yourself for school today," Peter warned Venom, seeing as this is going to be the first time he attempts to go to school with Venom in him. "I don't need you complaining in my head all day, I just need you to stay quiet and out of the way. There is a time and place for you and me to be we, but school is not that time or place."
Kori was walking around the apartment before settling on the couch. "Isn't it all still you?"
"In a sense." Peter guessed she had a point there.
Then to their surprise, there was a knock at the door, spooking all three of them. With everything that went down with LexCorp and stealing their experiment, rescuing Kori, there was a right to be spooked. Lois looked between both of the kids and they both knew to be ready if something happened. Lois then approached the door and opened it to get a look at who it was.
"Detective Sawyer?" Lois was surprised to see a member of the special crimes operation at her doorstep.
Maggie Sawyer sighed in relief when she saw Lois. "Ms. Lane, thank god."
"What's going on?" Lois wonders.
"Can we talk inside?" Maggie asks her.
Lois allowed her inside and Maggie noticed Peter and Kori; both of them were worried that this had something to do with the Symbiote or Kori. Both of them were a little on edge but noticed that there was no sign that she was after either of them.
"That's my son and his...friend from school." Lois was relieved that Kori at least looked human enough to pass that story off. "They were just leaving."
Peter wasn't sure what to do with that statement as he wasn't entirely sure he could just sneak Kori into class with him. He couldn't just have her wait outside of the school like some pet, that's definitely out of the question.
"Don't bother, the schools have been closed for the day," Maggie informed the two of them.
"Why? What's going on?" Lois asks.
Maggie sighed and knew she needed as much information as she could get. "Cletus Kassidy escaped from his cell last night."
"He what?" Lois was shocked to hear that.
"Yeah, they are keeping a tight lid on it, nobody knows but the city is trying to keep it under wraps but restricting certain locations like the schools," Maggie explains to her. "You were his special guest, did he tell you anything about an attempt to escape?"
Lois denied this since she was never told anything about him attempting to escape. That was something that she would have immediately warned someone about. "No, there was nothing about an attempted escape."
"Are you sure? Nothing about a revenge list? A killing spree he was planning?" Maggie asks her.
"Trust me, if there was anything that could help, I'd tell you," Lois promises.
Maggie sighed and took out her card and handed it to Lois. "If you remember anything, let me know."
Lois nodded and Maggie started to make her way to the door. "Stay safe."
The moment that she left the apartment, Lois immediately spun to face Peter and saw his face. "No."
"What?" Peter asks, not sure what she was talking about.
"You are not going after that serial killer," Lois tells him.
Peter scoffed and felt almost offended. "You thought that I was going to go out there and try to hunt a serial killer?" He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "I have more sense than that."
Peter then walked his way down the hall toward his bedroom as Lois got word she needed to get to work. She sighed and looked over to Kori, who was beginning to play with the remote and watch some random television.
Peter made it to his room just when Venom talked. "We're going after that killer, aren't we?"
"Well, yeah, but I wasn't going to tell her that," Peter stated.
Lois was stuck at the airport, reporting on the arrival of Bruce Wayne. She was a little nervous about the fact that there was a serial killer out there and that there was a good chance he might be coming after her.
Jimmy asked Lois, "So, Lois, how do you think this is going to go?"
"What do you mean?" Lois asks. "It's just Bruce Wayne."
Jimmy kept taking photos as he asked, "Didn't you go on a date with him once?"
"A couple..." Lois remembered those days. "But it doesn't mean anything to me anymore. It was a one-and-done thing."
"Not how I remember it," Jimmy commented as he stopped taking photos. "Does he know?"
Lois knew exactly what he was talking about. Only a handful of people knew what he was referring to; it was Jimmy, Clark, Lois, and Perry. They were the only ones who knew the secret. Not even her own sister was told the truth.
"No," she said. "And neither of them can know." Lois gave him a death stare.
Jimmy nodded and pointed behind her. Lois knew that she needed to do this and turned to face Bruce Wayne. It was fifteen years ago that she had discovered his biggest secret, that he was Batman.
"Ms. Lane." Bruce greeted her warmly. "It's been a while."
"Apparently long enough for me to go from Lois to Ms. Lane." Lois mocked him. "What brings someone like you to Metropolis a second time around?"
"I have some business in the city for a possible partner." Bruce decided to go on the record with. Kind of depends on what kind of interaction he has with Spider-Man. Not to mention he still needs to catch a killer. "I'll only be in town for a few days."
"Interesting. Care to disclose this potential partner?" Lois asks him.
Let's say he does a lot of work in arachnology," Bruce said, giving her the rundown and she knew it meant something to do with Spider-Man. "I have to get going, but if you would like to catch up, maybe we could discuss what happened to your boy in blue... off the record?"
Lois wondered about that comment and wasn't sure what to even say in response. If she said yes, she wasn't quite sure how to say it. If she said no, she couldn't learn anything from what had happened to Clark.
"I'll give you a call." Lois decided to go with an answer.
Bruce smiled and made his way to the car. Lois knew it would be hell on Earth if Peter and Bruce met. She needed to keep them both alert and with him here, she figured it had something to do with Cletus. That meant if he was here to stop the killer, there was no need for Peter to go out looking for him.
He was currently still at the house, so there was no way they would run into one another.
Right?
As night began to fall across the city, Peter was now swinging through the city as he was trying to find and catch the Carnage Killer. He knew that his mother didn't want him going after this killer, but if he was on the loose, nobody would be able to sleep well tonight.
He swung and latched onto the tallest building in the city to get a lay of the landscape. Not to mention his suit had scanners that allowed him to locate whoever this man was, and they were honed in on the voice from the recordings he sneaked from his mother's office.
"So, we are hunting for the murderer that your mother wished for us not to hunt for," Venom recapped what they were doing. "Am I making the correct assumption?"
"Basically," said Peter. "You were on board the first time I mentioned it."
"Just making sure so I can plead my case when your mother wishes to throw me out," Venom explained why he brought it up to him. Peter sighed as he rubbed his eyes, looking out to the whole city, listening to the quiet noises, with just a few hints of honking and complaining. "It is pretty peaceful up here."
'Yes, it kind of is," Peter admitted. This was probably his favorite thing about these powers. Just having a place he could hide and be himself. "Pretty amazing."
"Your world isn't as ugly as I imagined it to be after all," Venom commented.
"Uh...thanks?" Peter wasn't entirely sure how to take that.
"I'm almost sorry to see to end."
Peter was confused and taken aback by what he heard. The phrase "Sorry to see it all end," left him uncertain about whether he had heard correctly. The situation made him feel like he was in a science fiction movie like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This was not what he expected or wanted to happen.
"What does that mean?" Peter asked.
As Peter finally asked his question, an airplane flew overhead, weakening Venom and causing him to transform back into Peter, giving him the outfit that he made back. With his strength depleted, Peter found himself stranded on the rooftop. As he stumbled, he tried desperately to grab onto something to prevent his fall.
Luckily for him, Venom managed to gain enough strength to latch onto the side of a building and save them. "I got us," he said.
"Great." Peter was relieved at that as he crawled up to the ledge. "Now, what did you mean about seeing it end?"
"It was nothing," Venom tells him.
Peter guessed he could pry him for information about that before anything went any further. Right now, he needed to focus on hunting down a killer. But what he didn't exactly realize was that both of them were actually being watched themselves.
The Dark Knight observed the Spider-Man from a few blocks away through his powerful binoculars, attempting to analyze this new superhero. He saw Spider-Man pacing back and forth on the edge of a building, yelling at the sky. Unbeknownst to him, Batman was listening to everything he was saying.
Peter says, "You said that you're afraid of seeing it end, seeing it all end. What were you talking about?" He then stayed silent for a moment as he kept pacing. "I am definitely not going to let that go!"
"He seems to be... talking to someone," Bruce commented to Alfred as he watched the hero. "But I don't seem to be able to pick up frequencies radiating off his suit."
"Perhaps he has found a frequency that is hidden from even you, sir." Alfred took an educated guess.
"Highly unlikely. He hasn't been on this long enough to do something like that." Bruce stated as he kept watching him.
Peter kept pacing around, trying to get some information out of Venom. "Come on, you've got to tell me something."
Peter's enhanced senses then went off, and his heightened senses alerted him that there was a crime in progress. He let go of the conversation with Venom and jumped into action. He shot out a strand of webbing and began to swing away. While he was swinging away, Batman used his grapple gun to make his way over toward the area he was swinging from. Once he reached that area, he grabbed onto the strand of webbing that Peter had swung away on. Bruce then took a sample of it and watched as it seemed to be almost alive.
"Interesting."
Peter swung back into view, landing right above a scene of a crime. He saw that there was a woman being harassed by a guy and knew he had to do something about it.
"Think just because Superman isn't around, you can get away with this?" Peter asked with a snarl. "You're about to get another thing coming, pal."
"Ooh, let me do this one!" Venom practically begged Peter. "Let me show you how much of a help I can be!"
Peter wasn't sure he liked that idea, but sighed, knowing he needed to give Venom some form of freedom. "Alright, let's see what you've got."
Peter almost immediately regretted his decision as he felt his body moving on its own, and Venom leapt to land right in the middle of the confrontation. Peter felt his entire body begin to morph into something much larger. White markings surrounded his eyes to mimic Peter's suit, a mouth filled with sharp fangs and shaped like a grin, and a large, prehensile tongue. Spikes grew from his elbows, and legs, while white claws adorned his hands and toes. A white spider logo appeared on his chest, with the logo's four legs extending onto his shoulders and the others onto his lower torso.
"Hello, kitty," Venom said, causing the assailant to run away in fear of what he was seeing. "Come back here!"
Venom then extended a gigantic tentacle from his hand and reached for the criminal. When he grabbed him, Peter panicked as the creature lifted the criminal off the ground.
"Leave him. Leave him be," Peter said, seriously worried about what Venom might do.
"I shall remove your head," Venom threatens.
"No, you won't," said Peter.
"I will use it for bowling!" Venom exclaimed.
"No, you will not!" Peter realized he hadn't put the right restrictions in place for this freak.
"I will take it to…" Venom looked away as if talking to the victim. "What is the one that we like?"
"It's Bowl-O-Rama," Peter said, figuring he was referring to the bowling alley Lois had brought him to.
"Yes! Bowl-O-Rama!" Venom confirmed that's what he was thinking about. "I will take you there and we will score a 300-point game!"
Peter cried out in terror, "Put him down!" Venom began to feel Peter trying to regain control Venom ended up waving his arm around. He was beginning to feel weak, wondering how Peter could possibly be controlling him. "We need information!"
Venom snarled and sighed. "Fine!" He then threw the man against the wall, creating a giant cocoon around him, keeping him attached to the wall. Then Venom stepped back and morphed so that Peter was back in control. "We'll do it your way!"
Peter sighed in relief that he had managed to get the man to stop. He then approached the man, who was the victim fleeing for his life. Peter walked up and leapt onto the wall, placing himself at eye level above the criminal.
"You know, there was a lot of talk out there about a few other escaped convicts that escaped over the last few days," Peter said as he leaned closer to spook him. "Cletus Kassidy was one of them, you happen to know where I can find him?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." He stated.
Peter ran his face through his facial recognition from police reports. He easily got a match since he was a recent escapee. "Herman Schultz, wow. Burglary, armed robbery, attempted robbery, I'm surprised you were let out on parol." He watched the man whimper and knew he got him where he wanted him. "You were let on parol, right? Otherwise, you'd be an escapee yourself."
"What do you want?" Herman asks.
"I told you. Where can I find Cletus Kassidy?" Peter asks again.
"Uh, I don't know. There's a spot he likes to frequent." Herman decided to confess what he knows. "I used to see him hang around that butcher shop."
Peter sighed as he figured that should have been his first place to look. "Ugh. The dude loves meat. That should have been stop number one!"
"Now are you gonna let me go?" Herman asks.
Peter considered the request when he heard sirens approaching. "You know what? They can help you." He then turned and shot a strand of webbing. "I've gotta be somewhere."
He then swung away and Venom had to admit that he was impressive. "Where did you learn skills like that?"
"Let's say I watch a lot of crime dramas," Peter admitted that's where he got that interrogation voice he used.
Batman was still there, watching everything. He watched as the police were confused about how to get Herman down from the cocoon he was currently stuck in. He had to admit that this Spider-Man had potential, but he was sloppy. Seemed to be a little bit of a mess, and could use some real interrogation training. Herman Schultz is easy pickings. Even Dick, like Robin, could have threatened him, and he would confess his social security number.
Kori was still at the house, wearing some large clothing, and was watching some dozen versions of a sitcom she has been sitting through all day and night. Lois entered the apartment with a sigh as she looked around the room.
"Have you been sitting there all day?" Lois asks her.
"No, I got up several times," Kori said to her. "I walked around, watched the sunset, but came back because I got bored."
Lois sighed and saw that was at least a little better. "Well, it's better than nothing." Then she looked around and immediately began to worry. "Where's Peter?"
"In his room. He never came out." Kori informed her.
Lois then became worried as she made her way around the apartment and noticed there was no sign of him. "Ugh! No, no, no." She knew if Batman was in town, and Peter was out there, there was no way they wouldn't run into one another. "Kori, stay here, just don't answer the door, and if someone tries to enter…strike first and ask questions later."
Kori didn't make any sign that she even heard her, but Lois could tell she had heard her and decided to just leave. However, she didn't get too far before closing the door, only for two large hands to wrap around her mouth and cause her to shriek. Her screams were muffled by the cloth, though, and there was no Superman coming.
Peter made his way to the butcher shop and saw there was no sign of any forced entry. There was no way that anyone had even been around it in recent days. But then, as he made his way to the back, he almost froze and threw up at the sight. He saw that there was a man lying on the ground, with about an entire section of his arm missing.
"Oh, my God! That...that's a dead person." Peter was disgusted as he heeled over the body. Luckily, Venom was quick to remove a portion of the mask so it didn't come back at him. "He...oh, my God!"
"He isn't called the Carnage Killer for nothing." Batman finally let himself be seen, spooking both of them. They looked up and saw the silhouette of the Dark Knight staring down at them. Then with one jump, he fell from the building and extended his cape enough to land safely and gently on the ground. "Must have decided to close shop early, and was interrupting Cletus while he grabbed a snack."
Peter however didn't even say a word yet. "You're...you're...Batman."
Bruce mocked him as he examined the body. "And I thought I was the world's greatest detective," he said. "Cletus escaped last night, giving him a few hours to stay hidden until things cooled down, and this was his first stop. But it wasn't his last."
"Where do you think he's heading?" Peter questions.
"My guess?" Bruce asks as he was looking through the garbage, grabbing the paper. "The last person who ever visited him."
And that was when Bruce tossed the paper and Peter saw that it was the article his mother had written about the monster. A cold chill went straight down his spine as realization almost hit him like a hard truck. He ran down the street, then leapt into the air, using his tentacles to stretch out instead of webbing. This was a faster method of travel and was definitely what he would use in times of crisis like this.
Bruce watched Spider-Man swing away, marveling at how quickly he had been able to react to learning that Lois Lane was in danger. Looking down at his belt, he pulled out his device and saw that the tracker he had managed to place on him without his knowledge and his suit seemingly being aware of it as well. He saw that Spider-Man was making his way right towards Lois' apartment. Somewhere that wasn't public; so, why would he know where she lived?
Peter made his way to the balcony of his apartment and practically burst through the door, startling Kori as she wasn't expecting him to appear so suddenly. She jumped a little and, on instinct, used her powers to leap over the couch.
"Don't do the thing that scared me again!" Kori pleaded with him for that.
"Where's my mom?!" Peter asks her in worry.
"She left, and said she would be back soon," Kori tells him.
Peter ran for the front door and opened it to see no sign of Lois, but he immediately noticed that her purse was on the ground. He started to panic and looked around the area to try and locate her. Figuring that someone like Cletus wouldn't take the elevators, he guessed he somehow got his mom to take the stairs. Either by drugging or dragging her at gunpoint. Or a knife, if he decided to sneak into that butcher shop after all.
When Peter made his way down the stairs the faster way, he immediately found that Cletus was indeed dragging his mother off. He managed to stop him right before he dragged her off in a car.
"Let... her... GO!" Peter shouted, not messing around when it came to the safety of his mother. "Or I promise you, whatever they find left, they won't be able to recognize as human remains."
"YES! Let us devour him!" Venom was 100% on board with this anger and aggression Peter was showing. "He is scum! Let us waste what's left of him!"
"Spider-Man." Cletus chuckled as if he finally realized who he was. Not losing the grip he had on Lois, as she continued to struggle in his grasp. "I am a big fan of your work. But...I am not a fan of your execution. You know, real spiders liquefy their prey from the inside. Something to consider."
"Ew." Venom comments.
"And when you say it..." Peter remembered everything Venom seemed to enjoy, and if this guy was going to disturb him, that was saying something. "It's over," he said. "You already took one life; I won't let you kill Ms. Lane."
"But why would I want to harm her?" Cletus asks him. "I love her."
Peter froze in confusion as he looked at Lois, noticing the same look of confusion on her face. Neither of them was entirely sure how they were supposed to respond to that comment from the monster.
"Buddy, I don't think that you are her type," Peter stated.
"Let a fellow have a chance, and he can make them their type," Cletus promises.
"It's such a shame that you won't get that chance," Peter said as he looked for an opening. But he noticed the Dark Knight had arrived right behind Cletus, taking his approach from a building right behind them. "Now, let her go."
"Tell me, Sunny," Cletus said, getting Peter to focus on him, so as to not get Batman spotted. "Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?"
That line seemed to have struck a chord with Batman, as he froze the instant that he heard it. He knew that phrase; he knew exactly what it meant. Peter however didn't get the same response as he just stood there and looked around the area.
"What?" Peter asks.
"I ask that question of all my prey before I send a draft through their demise." I just like the sound of it."
With a moment to get his bearings, Cletus only laughed when finally Bruce reacted and threw a Batarang. It ended up knocking the knife out of Cletus's hands, causing him to scream in pain as the Batarang also impaled his hand.
Lois had just enough time to get away, and she got far enough for Peter to catch up. As soon as he did, he struck. When Venom extended a massive wave of tentacles, Peter flung himself at Cletus and slammed into the wall, delivering a powerful punch to his face. Cletus managed to grab his gloved hand and took a bite out of it, prompting a punch from Peter to his face. Cletus was knocked out, and Peter was relieved to see him unconscious. However, they didn't notice that a small portion of the symbiote had made its way inside of Cletus when he bit Peter.
Cletus was taken away into custody by several armed men and an entire SWAT team. He didn't put up much of a fight; he only began mumbling as they led him away.
Cletus muttered to himself, "I have tasted blood before, and that is definitely not it."
Batman and Spider-Man watched as he was taken away, and they were both relieved to have him out of the way. Peter sighed and stretched his arms, stretching them.
Well, I say that was a job well done," Peter said and looked at Batman. "You know, if you're here to check up on Superman, he's still missing."
Bruce said, a little annoyed. "I'm looking into it." You and the rest of the city aren't the only ones worried." He then stood up and looked at Spider-Man. "But I've been keeping an eye on you for some time."
"What?" Peter said in a little bit of fear after hearing that. "Why?"
"You showed up just a short time after Superman's disappearance," Bruce explained why he had been keeping an eye on him. "But from what I've seen, you're clean. You could use a lot of work, but you're clean."
"Thanks," Peter said, though he wasn't entirely sure how to take that. "So, you came to help take down the Carnage Killer, or were you following me?"
"I was multitasking," Bruce explains and stood up. "I'll be keeping an eye on you. Watch out to see what you do, and how well you do it."
"Great." Peter wasn't exactly thrilled about that idea.
"See you around," Bruce said as he leaped off the building.
Peter ran to see where he would go but was shocked when he saw that Batman somehow vanished. Peter did a run around to see if he could find him, but there was nos ign of the capped crusader.
"Nutjob." Venom comments.
"Can't exactly disagree with you there," Peter admitted as he sighed. "Okay, that's enough excitement for me. What do you say we get back and pray mom is asleep?"
Peter and Venom then make their way upward and into the apartment where Venom then morphed into Peter. He sighed and was glad to be finished putting Cletus back behind bars. But he was a little confused when he heard something drop to the floor, sounding like metal. When he looked back, he noticed some small piece of metal in the shape of a bat.
When he picked it up, he was still confused until it dawned on him just how Batman was able to keep up with him all night. It was a tracker. He crushed it as he then looked out his window and saw from a far distance, that there indeed was Batman watching from a pair of binoculars. Before he could even think to do anything, Batman used a grappling hook and zipped off into the night.
"And...that can't be good," Peter muttered to himself.
Bruce landed on the ground of the streets as he approached the Batmobile, remembering that quote from Cletus. He knows those words. They were the words said by the man who killed his parents when he was a boy. The man was just about twenty years older than him, so the age would match up perfectly.
He saw that he was behind bars and that he should keep a closer eye on him. And since he seemed to keep escaping from prison, he should be moved to a better one. And he knew just the place that can hold the criminally insane like him.
He was surprised to learn that the supposed Spider-Man was actually Lois Lane's son. This was unexpected and caught him off guard.
As he climbed into the Batmobile, he remained oblivious to the fact that someone was watching him from above. It wasn't just Superman soaring through the sky; the friendly hero had been infected by the Symbiote from the shuttle and was now under its control.
He looked down to see Venom was already infecting one of the heroes of this world. He then looked down and saw that this Batman was no threat to him or his reign. But there were others in this world that would for sure be a threat to him. He looked up to the sky and used his host's abilities to eye the Watchtower.
That is where he will begin.
"The reign of the Symbiotes will begin now. With the fall of the Justice League."
