A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 Chapter 17

The days following Bailey's mates return into her life should've been the happiest of her life. Her family whole once more, human and wolf alike.

But it wasn't.

The plan the three of them had drawn up to retrieve the last necessary ingredients from Snape's personal stores had worked. Hermione happily informed them that the Polyjuice Potion would be completed in 2 weeks and then they'd know for sure if Malfoy is the Heir of Slytherin or not.

These are the longest two weeks Bailey thinks she's ever experienced in her life. Certainly, made no better with that unexpected and unprovoked attack on Colin Creevey.

Sure, the kid is annoying, but it's always with good intentions and he has a very good heart. Colin Creevey didn't deserve this.

Things got worse from there out.

Well, at least for Harry.

Exactly a week later, in light of the two random attacks a Dueling Club is starting so the students know how to defend themselves against this mysterious aggressor. A lot of people presumed it would be Professor Flictwick teaching the class. Instead, it is Lockhart, to the girls delight and boy's chagrin.

During the demonstration Lockhart gave off with Snape at 8 o'clock in the evening at the Great Hall the long dining tables were temporarily removed and a golden stage had appeared along the center of the room. Bailey could've laughed herself silly when Snape made an idiot of Lockhart so easily on stage when the man failed to shield himself from the spell used on him. Realizing he's outmatched and to save himself from the disgrace he'd drown in when he shows everyone, he doesn't really know anything Lockhart decides for two students to practice disarming on an opponent.

Snape suggests using Harry and Draco be brought to the stage to practice using the Disarming Charm, Expelliarmus on each other. All the students eager crowd around the stage edges to watch. With the open rivalry and resentment between these two and their Houses it's going to be quite an eventful spectacle.

Bailey is restrained by Hermione since she can't go on stage with her boy. Too dangerous. There's a risk she might accidentally get caught in the crossfire.

Lockhart may have set the standard for them to seek to only disarm their opponents, but it's a rule that neither of them are adhering to.

Literally, straight from the word "go" Malfoy and Harry are immediately going at each other with a vengeance.

Then Malfoy uses a spell that brings about an end to all this along with the Dueling Club.

"Serpensortia!"

The end of Malfoy's wand explodes. A long black snake is conjured, erupting out from the wand tip. It fell heavily onto the floor in the middle of the stage and raises itself ready to strike. There were screams as the crowd backs away swiftly as far as they can get all clustered together.

Snape moves forward to eliminate the threat, but Lockhart acts first. An attempt to save face being his motivation. The idiot brandishes his wand in a useless spell to send the serpent horizontally airborne. It launches into the air and lands in the same spot. The reptile did not appreciate being unceremoniously tossed around this way after being rudely summoned from wherever it came from.

Enraged, hissing furiously, it turns its focus and rage onto poor Justin Finch-Fletchley. Locked onto a new target the snake exposes its fangs, poised to strike a killing blow.

This time Bailey reacts.

Breaking from Hermione, Bailey leaps onto the stage. She crouches aggressively in front of the snake, diverting its fury over to her instead.

Bailey prepares herself to receive a bite that never comes.

Coming to Bailey's defense, Harry shouts "Leave her alone!"

And miraculously the snake slumps to the floor, docile as a thick, black garden hose, its eyes now on Harry.

Snape steps forward, incinerating the snake to askes.

Snape and everyone else in the Great Hall are looking at Harry in an unexpected way. A mixture of shock and fear. Bailey couldn't understand why. He'd just stopped the snake from attacking anyone, including her.

Justin runs out of the Great Hall after demanding what Harry was playing at.

Ron and Hermione rush Harry and Bailey out of there fast.

Upon reaching the Gryffindor common room the two swiftly explain the reason the crowd reacted so negatively in there.

Turns out Harry is a Parselmouth, meaning he can speak to snakes. That's no news to Bailey. She's known that since that day at the Zoo when that boa constrictor had gotten loose.

But what is news to her is what this means.

Salazar Slytherin can speak Parseltongue, a language that is only open to his line alone.

Meaning that Harry just unintentionally told the whole school that he may be Slytherin's Heir.

This is so not good.

By next morning the first snow of the season had begun in the night and it had turned into a blizzard so thick that the last Herbology lesson of the term was canceled. Meaning that the students that were supposed to take that course now have a free period until it clears up.

It's during this time when Harry is searching for Justin to explain things to him from his side of the story that Harry overhears classmates, while not close acquaintances, were always friendly toward him in and out of class talking behind his back. Spreading false rumors about him being out to hurt people without knowing any of the facts.

Harry can't stand it anymore so he travels down to Hagrid's place to visit the puppies.

The pups are absolutely loving the snowfall. This is the first time they've seen it and are having a blast. They're trying to catch snowflakes in their mouths. Bold and Ranger even tried to eat it only to become confused when this peculiar substance melts on their tongue's seconds later. Running around the enclosure the little ones get a real kick out of skidding in the snow and colliding into snow piles.

Bailey doesn't have to be concerned about them catching cold. The shelter in their pen is spelled so that its nice and warm.

Bailey hopes that Brokefang will visit again today. She knows the pups are looking forward to it.

Hermione suggested the name Brokefang. In the brief observations they had of the alpha male wolf she'd noticed the point of one canine tooth was broken off when he was interacting with the pups through the fence.

So they thought it over and decided the name suited the blue-gray wolf just fine.

At the next visit, the newly dubbed "Brokefang" came to them lugging a surprise.

Harry was inside with Hagrid, watching everything going on from one of the windows. You see not long after the two of them came down to Hagrid's place for a visit Bailey had released a loud howl, as deep as she could get it, letting her mate know that is with their sons and daughters. Hagrid had pulled Harry inside for safety reasons. Unlike with him and Bailey, Harry hasn't been around wolves before so doesn't necessarily know how to interact around them.

An answering howl soon resounds from the Dark Forest.

A couple of minutes later Brokefang emerges, carrying the unexpected gift in his mouth.

Brokefang must've finished hunting not too long ago. The object he's carrying is a severed leg from a deer.

Apparently Brokefang has his mind set on feeding the pups today.

Bailey whimpers a welcome, wagging her tail, and touching noses with him.

The pups yip and bark, eagerly pressing against the fence to greet their father.

It's here that Hagrid exits the hut alone. Brokefang freezes at Hagrid's presence yet doesn't run away, recognizing him from the many excursions the man takes in the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid goes over to the gate to let the pups out, figuring Bailey and Brokefang together can keep the pups under suitable control and in one area.

This choice isn't taken lightly. This'll be the first time the pups interact with their father without the protection of a fence between them. Inside Harry waits with bated breath, fingers crossed that no harm would come to the little ones.

On the other hand, Bailey feels she's got no need to worry.

The pups burst out from the enclosure in a stampede. They waste no time, careening toward Brokefang and the promise of food he provides.

Bailey cringes, bracing for the impact that's sure to come with her standing beside Brokefang.

Brokefang, however, already has this covered.

Dropping the deer leg Brokefang fully bares his teeth, hackles raise, and fur bristling on his back. Telling the pups in a clear and obvious warning Brokefang relays to them to hit the brakes and stop. Not used to this the pups obey, skidding to a stop and into each other, hearing the command loud and clear. The brood stand and sit in front of their parents in perplexed bemusement. Brokefang then goes around placing his muzzle over each pup separately to show dominance over them.

Inside the house Hagrid explains this to Harry so he is aware that Brokefang isn't hurting the pups. This is simply a natural thing for the dominant male of any pack to do when welcoming in new additions. The alpha male must otherwise he risks losing his position later down the line to one that doesn't show respect for him and gets delusions of grandeur for the top spot. In this case Brokefang won't tolerate any insubordination amongst the puppies. Brokefang mouths and rolls them over, letting them know who's the boss in this small pack.

Strict and firm control now established in the pecking order Brokefang allows the pups to approach the deer leg.

This is the very first taste of real raw and bloody meat the pups have ever had. Almost all their food has been cooked before it's been handed to them after they were weaned off her milk for good.

The introduction of raw meat brings about a noticeable change in them from the transition by the very first bite, making their true nature start to emerge. It provokes the first experience of sibling rivalry. Ranger and Friendly go at it. Friendly biting and pulling at Ranger's neck to get him away from the meat. Swift action from Bailey ends the scuffle, but it doesn't stop the pups from emitting low growls and baring their teeth to warn the others away from their sections.

Bold is already starting to dominate his littermates. He moves backwards, tugging one end of the deer leg with him against Hagrid's Hut. Bounder takes the other end and an impromptu game of tug of war is ensued.

Of course, because of his larger size, Bounder is the victor. And Bounder tugs the deer leg back out into the open for the rest to finish off. Whisper is the one to chastise Bold. She flicks Bold in the nose with her tail tip.

Bold comically sneezes.

Inside Harry grins laughing at the stunt.

Bailey and Brokefang stand there, the former choosing not to take part in anticipation of the meal she'll receive in the Great Hall later. A nice well-cooked chicken or steak suits more to her tastes. The latter impassively stands guard as he sees fit to monitor them digging into the deer meat with gusto.

After all that food and activity there's only one response from tired puppies.

They group together to sleep it off in the shelter after Bailey brings them back inside, noticing few of them wobbling on shaky legs. She makes sure they're comfortable and then kicks the gate shut behind her so none can escape. The bones from the carcass are in there with them to be used as toys should they find them still amusing. Maybe even for a late midnight snack.

Bailey and Brokefang eventually share one last goodbye. He then runs back into the Forbidden Forest with Bailey watching him the whole way, tail hanging low and dejected.

But Brokefang will be back. He promised her that he'll be back. All she has to do in howl for him and Brokefang will come.

Witnessing this beautiful and heartfelt encounter only gives Harry a brief interlude of peace. As soon as they leave this space and back into the castle the mood immediately drops again.

Today, with what's waiting for them inside, they literally should've spent more time outside longer.

Would've saved them a lot of trouble.

Authors Note:

Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of months ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.

When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.

Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.

Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.

Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
