Chapter 2
Joss
Ward Family
Reveal Causes Shockwaves Throughout Port Charles
Joss returned from Australia after taking her Father's and Uncle's remains to be buried next to their parents. While working the front desk at the Metro Court, she checked in a guest, Sean Ward, and made it her mission to find out more about him, what he does, and get to know him better. Joss showed Sean and his sister Mary around Port Charles. He thanked her for the information on the apartment she recommended. At the end of one of her tours, Sean asked Joss to dinner. Mary left early, knowing her older brother by five minutes was smitten with this young blonde graduate of PCU.
Joss takes Sean to Charlie's for a drink. Kristina waits on them. She places coasters in front of them. She says, "It's nice to see you again, Joss. I'm sorry about Jax. Who is your friend?"
Joss introduces Sean to Kristina. "Kristina Davis, this is Sean Ward. He is new in town."
Kristina asks, "How did you meet?"
Sean replies, "I rented a suite at the Metro Court for a couple of days until my sister came out, and Joss helped rent the place she and her friends lived until the asteroid."
Kristina says, "How did you and your sister choose Port Charles? Are you grad students?"
Sean laughs and replies, "No. We followed our mother. She's working for Mayor Collins. My sister started as an intern at General Hospital last month."
Kristina says, "What do you do, Sean? Are you a doctor too?"
Sean laughs again, "No, I…."
Joss interrupts, "What's with the 20 questions, Kris? My mom has already met him, and I want a few surprises to keep."
Kristina pulls Kristina aside and admonishes Joss. She says, "Joss, be careful. Has my father run a background check on him.? You can never be too careful."
Joss replies, "Sonny has not met him, and I don't want to know any more than he's willing to share. I haven't told him my life story. Besides, Mrs. Collins did a background check on his mother; he can't be that bad. Sean told me there would be an announcement next week where she will introduce her new Assistant Mayor to replace Eileen Ashby, who was killed in the asteroid. All shall be revealed then. I told Mom the same thing."
Sean returns to the bar and says, "Is it safe to return? I'd love whatever is on tap and a burger."
Kristina says, "Welcome to Port Charles. Everything is on the house today."
The weather is warm, and Sean and Joss decide to walk to the hotel where their cars are parked. Sean casually holds Joss's hand and interlaces his fingers into hers. He says, "Before next week's announcement, I want to tell you the rest of my story. I left something out. It either impresses people or makes them groan. I wanted you to get to know me better, and hopefully, it won't matter what I do for a living."
Joss replies, "I found it exciting I didn't know. I figured if you were a serial killer, I'd know." She laughs.
Sean pauses on that comment, shakes it off, and laughs too. He continues, "Do you know who Robert Scorpio is?"
Joss laughs, "Everyone knows who Robert is. If you know the history of Port Charles and what happened in the 1980s and the Cassidines trying to freeze Port Charles. Robert, the Mayor, my Uncle Luke, and others were instrumental in saving Port Charles and the World."
Sean, in amazement, says, "Luke Spencer was your Uncle?"
Joss nods yes and says, "On my mother's side. Her Mother, Bobbie Spencer, who recently died, was Luke's sister."
Sean replies, "Wow! Do you know anything else that can't be found on a Google search?"
Joss says, "Why? What is your interest in the District Attorney?"
Sean hesitates and replies, "Here is when your reaction may change how you feel about me. Robert Scorpio is my new boss. I'm the new ADA."
Joss stops walking, her hand drops from Sean, and says, "Oh, boy! We may have a problem."
Sean stops, turns around, and says, "You hate lawyers that much? I figured you might be impressed I'm a lawyer or think I was some bottom-feeder ambulance chaser, but not this reaction."
Joss replies, "You know my name is Josslyn Jacks. My father was Jasper Jacks, but everyone called him 'Jax.' He died saving me during the asteroid. What you may not know is my stepfather is Sonny Corothinos. And if you don't know who he is, you haven't done your research."
Sean says, "Oh, boy, is right!"
Joss thinks perhaps Kristina was right. Sonny should have done a background check. She says, "It may not be all bad. Sonny and Mayor Collins are good friends. When she was married to my Uncle, they were in business together. She is also good friends with your new boss."
Sean asks, "How well do you know Laura Collins?"
Joss replies, "She's a wonderful person. She is also my last boyfriend's grandmother. I think that only Elizabeth Webber's and the Quartermaine's families have been around longer than Laura's family."
Sean says, "After next week's announcement, we should determine what this means. My mother wants me to meet my father's family."
Joss replies, "Your father? I thought you didn't know your father."
Sean says, "I don't. My mother never said who he was, but she lived here for about four years before moving back to Philadelphia to care for my grandfather."
Joss says, "After next week, no more surprises? Both our families will know everything?"
Sean replies, "I hope no more surprises for everyone. My mother has been secretive about my family but promised that there will be no more secrets after Mayor Collins introduces my mother, Mary, and me."
Joss says, "Sonny won't like it, and I'm not thrilled with the thought you might have to prosecute my stepfather, but I want to see more of you."
Sean smiles and replies, "Good, because I want to see more of you too." He retakes her hand and pulls her in, and kisses her.
Laura's office announces there will be a brief press conference. The day arrives, and everyone is eager to meet the new Assistant Mayor. The regular programming is interrupted, and Laura appears. She says, "I will keep this short so you can return to your soaps or game shows. I am pleased to introduce Port Charles new Assistant Mayor, Keesha Ward. Many long-time residents may remember her from the mid to late 1990s. Keesha is the granddaughter of the great Mary Mae Ward, Bradley Ward's niece and Justice Ward's cousin. Her children, Sean, and Mary Mae Ward, moved with her. Mary is an intern at General Hospital, and Sean will be working under Robert Scorpio as Assistant DA. Please welcome them to General Hospital. They are available for questions from the press, and for those watching at home, we return you to your favorite programs. Thank you."
The on-site reporters pepper Keesha with questions about her return to Port Charles. They ask why she decided to return after all these years. Then they start asking personal questions. Laura says, "I'm sorry, but that's all we have time for; her CV can be found on the Port Charles Mayor's website. Thank you."
They exit, and Laura ushers Keesha, Sean, and Mary to her office. Keesha says, "Whew, thank you, Laura. I was not prepared for that. Soon enough, people will know about me and my connection to the Quartermaines, but I want them to know first."
Laura replies, "That is why I got you out of there. I suggest you call Monica now and schedule a meeting. Have you told Sean and Mary?"
Keesha says, "I told them last night. Needless to say, they were surprised but took it well. Thank you. I have some calls to make."
Several reactions across the city occurred, from shock to anger and bewilderment.
Monica, along with Jeff and Ned, were watching the news. Ned asks, "Do you think?..." His voice trails.
Monica says, "It's possible."
Jeff asks, "What?"
The phone rings when Monica is about to explain to Jeff the Quartermaine, Bradley Ward, and his extended family saga. She looks at the unknown caller ID and answers, "Monica Quartermaine." Ned and Jeff look on, watching Monica's expressions, and listen to the one-sided conversation as she continues. She says, "Yes, we saw the press conference. I mean, Ned and I saw it." (Monica omitted Jeff as it would take too long to explain who Jeff is).
Monica says, "We lost many Quartermaines in the past 15-plus years. All that is left besides Ned and me that you would know is Tracy. I assume you heard about Justus. Yes, that was another unfortunate loss. Yes, Jason is still in Port Charles. He's married to the Head Nurse at General Hospital. Her name is Elizabeth Webber. Her grandfather was Steve Hardy. I would love for you and your children to stop by. Would you like to come for dinner? No? Of course. I understand. Tomorrow morning will be good. I'll have coffee, bagels, and muffins available. It was good hearing from you, Keesha."
Monica and Ned fill Jeff in on Keesha and the Ward family, and Monica says, "Tomorrow, I think I am going to meet my grandchildren."
Carly is watching the press conference with Joss. Her face is scrunched and turns red. She screams, "No Fu..ing way!" Carly looks at Joss and says, "You are dating her son?"
At first, Joss thought her mother would be upset Sean was working for DA Scorpio, but when Carly said "her son," Joss knew it was more serious. Joss says, "Keesha Ward? Did you know her when she lived here?"
Carly replies, "If my calculations are correct, you are involved with AJ Quartermaine's son. Michael's half-brother! When Sonny finds out, he will be pissed!"
Joss sucks her breath in and replies, "Keesha was involved with AJ Quartermaine? Sonny killed AJ! I think I'm going to be sick. Sonny was given a pardon, but it's easy enough for Sean to find out Sonny killed the father he never got to meet."
Carly says, "Exactly! But it's more than that. Diane can handle the legalities for Sonny. He was given a pardon, so neither Sean nor Robert can do anything about that. Sonny won't like you dating a prosecutor, especially AJ's son. Before it becomes serious, you should end things with Sean." Before Joss can protest, Carly adds, "I'm not proud of some of the things I did to AJ Quartermaine, but if Sean knew, he probably wouldn't like me either."
Carly laughs and says, "And to think I didn't like it when you dated Cameron Webber. Can we rewind back to those days?"
Joss replies, "I like Sean. But once he finds out what Sonny did, or whatever you did, he may be the one to break up with me."
Carly says, "I don't think Sonny knows yet. I'll call him and tell him what we know. Sean's paternity has not been confirmed so far. I'll call Michael tomorrow and ask him if Keesha has called Monica. You can relax for the time being."
Jason arrives, gun drawn.
