Chapter 7

Molly and Libby's Sleepover

A couple of weeks had passed since Libby's Bat Mitzvah. Thinking back to that night, Molly was surprised by how quickly Libby became a woman. It felt like only yesterday when she first met Libby back in the first grade. She couldn't help but feel happy for Libby with how much she is growing up.

It wasn't long before Scratch entered Molly's room as he found her on her bed, texting Libby.

"Let me guess, you are texting Libby again?" Scratch guessed.

Molly looked up from her phone and nodded. "Yes, Scratch! A lot has been going on with Libby since her Bat Mitzvah. She even told me that she got her first period recently, and-"

"Okay! I don't want to hear the rest of it!" Scratch interrupted, not wanting to have this awkward conversation.

"Anyway, I'm just so happy for Libby with how much she is growing up! There is no doubt she would grow up to be a beautiful woman!" Molly whispered that last part to herself.

With a sigh, Molly thought back to the night of Libby's Bat Mitzvah. Now that she can no longer deny her crush on Libby, Molly constantly wondered if there was a way for her to actually confess her love for her best friend.

Suddenly, Molly's eyes widened as she just thought of an idea. Picking up her phone once more, Molly decided to ask Libby if she would like to have a sleepover with her.

She texted for a couple of moments before she sent a message that read, 'Hey, Libby! I just thought of a wonderful idea! How would you feel about us having a sleepover at my house? Just you and me?'

After sending the message, Molly waited for Libby's reply. Three dots appeared on Molly's phone, indicating that Libby was typing. Before long, Molly got a message from Libby that read, 'A sleepover? I don't know, Molly. Do you remember what happened at Andrea's sleepover in the third grade?'

It was hard for Molly to forget that humiliating night for Libby when she wet the bed. Libby had never been to a sleepover since then. Despite that, Molly knew that she was going to give Libby the best sleepover ever. She texted again and sent a message that read, 'But that was a long time ago! I promise you will have fun at our sleepover! Maybe consider it?'

Molly waited for a couple of moments before Libby replied, 'You know what? Why not? How does this weekend sound?'

With a smile, Molly replied, 'This weekend sounds perfect! I'll go check in with my parents to see if it is alright with them!'

At that moment, Molly rushed downstairs to ask her parents if it was okay for her to have a sleepover with Libby this weekend. They both agreed, much to Molly's delight.

For the next couple of days, Molly excitedly waited for her sleepover with Libby. Deep down, Molly hoped that it would be the night she would finally confess her love for Libby. Just the thought of it made Molly feel nervous, but she knew that she couldn't back down now.

Once the night of the sleepover finally arrived, Molly got changed into her pajamas. She looked out of the window before she noticed Libby's mom driving up to the house. Libby got out of the car before hugging her mom goodbye as she made her way towards the house. As Libby got closer, Molly began to feel more nervous about the idea of confessing her love for Libby. She was so distracted, she didn't notice Scratch floating behind her.

"Are you going to get the door? Libby is ringing the doorbell?" Scratch pointed out.

"Oh, right! I'd better let Libby in!" Molly said before she rushed downstairs.

"Yeah, you do that! I'll just get some snacks from the refrigerator in the meantime." Scratch announced.

As she hurried downstairs, Molly opened the front door, where Libby greeted her. With a smile, Libby embraced her best friend in a hug.

"Hey, bestie! Thanks for coming!" Molly exclaimed.

"Well, thank you for inviting me, Molly! I'll admit, I was a little nervous, but knowing that it's mostly going to be just us, I think I'm willing to give this sleepover a chance!" Libby explained.

"You don't have to worry, Libby! Mom and Dad will be sleeping soon, and I'm sure that Darryl won't bother us. Anyway, come inside!" Molly moved to the side to let Libby in the house.

At that moment, Libby walked inside, where she placed her backpack down. It was revealed that she brought a couple of snacks, her favorite book series, A Song of Snow and Humidity, and a couple of tampons, just in case.

Upon seeing the tampons, Molly asked, "So, how are you dealing with your period so far?"

"Oh, you know! I'm managing! Admittedly, it's the cramps that's the hard part to deal with!" Libby admitted.

"Don't worry! We don't have to do any too crazy for the sleepover!" Molly assured. "We can just watch a movie, eating popcorn if you like!"

Libby liked the sound of that. "That actually sounds great! I'll unpack everything while you can make the snacks!"

As Libby made her way upstairs to Molly's room, Molly walked over to the kitchen to make some snacks. She placed the popcorn in the microwave and waited before Scratch appeared behind her.

"Ooh! More snacks? Don't mind if I do!"

"Sorry, Scratch! The popcorn is for me and Libby." Molly explained. "Besides, you have more than enough to eat down here!"

Scratch let out a disappointed sigh."Oh, fine, but if you leave any snacks up there, I'm floating up there to eat the rest."

"That might not be a good idea! I'm trying to keep Libby from finding out about ghosts after how she nearly found out about Geoff at the camping trip." Molly began to remember what happened that night. "Anyway, please don't make too much noise! This sleepover is really important to me!"

"Relax, Moll! I'll just be down here, while you and Libby talk about make up and boys and whether else!"

Once the popcorn was done, Molly took the bowl out of the microwave before she headed upstairs. Molly reached the attic, where she and Libby watched a movie on her phone. They both ended up watching a horror movie together. As they watched the movie, Molly and Libby took turns taking popcorn from the bowl before both of their hands accidentally touched each other at the same time. This caused them both to blush before silently brining their attention back to the movie.

As the movie came to an end, Molly and Libby spent the rest of their sleepover playing games with each other. They played a couple of board games and had pillow fights with each other. This went on until they decided to play truth or dare with each other. They didn't do too many dares, and mainly asked each other questions. It wasn't long before it was Molly's turn once more

"Okay, Libby! Truth or dare?"

"I think I'll go with truth again." Libby replied.

At that moment, Molly decided to ask a question that she was wondering about for awhile. "So, have you ever had a crush on anyone, Libby? Has there been any boy you like?" Molly asked, secretly hoping Libby would say no.

Libby stayed silent for a couple of moments. She hesitated before she replied, "Can I tell you a secret, Molly? I don't think I like boys that way. I think I'm kind of into girls instead." Libby shyly looked away, still embarrassed by what she just admitted. "Anyway, I guess it is your turn now. Truth or dare?"

"Truth." Molly replied

"I guess I'll ask you the same question. Do you have a crush on anyone?"

Seeing that this would be the perfect moment to finally confess her love for Libby, Molly knew that it was now our never.

"Actually. I do have a crush on someone, and that person is y-"

Before Molly could say another word, she was startled when a crashing noise can be heard from downstairs. While Libby was confused, Molly had an annoyed look on her face, knowing fully well that it was Scratch.

"Dammit, Scratch!" Molly swore under her breath, frustrated that Scratch just ruined her chance to confess her feelings for Libby.

"What was that, Molly?" Libby asked, not quite hearing what Molly said.

"Uh, it's nothing! I think Darryl is just downstairs, trying to prank us! You know how much of a prankster he is! I'll go check!" Molly stood up before making her way to the kitchen.

As she entered the kitchen, she stared at her ghost friend, annoyed. Scratch was floating in the middle of the kitchen, which was now a mess.

"Scratch, what are you doing?" Molly whispered in an angry tone.

"Just looking for the chips! I can't find them anywhere!" Scratch explained.

"They are right here, Scratch!" Molly opened a nearby cabinet with a bag of chips inside. "Now, can you please keep it down a little? This sleepover is really important to me!"

"Alright, already! I'll keep it down! Just give me the chips!" Scratch took the bag of chips from Molly's hands.

With a sigh, Molly walked back upstairs, ready to continue her sleepover with Libby. As she returned to the attic, she decided to apologize to Libby for disruption.

"Sorry, Libby! It really was Darryl trying to prank us!" Molly lied. "I told him to knock it off, so everything is fine now!"

"That's great, Molly!" Libby smiled before she just remembered something. "So, who was the person you said you had a crush on?"

Molly's face turned red as she forgot all about that. Just like that, all of the courage she had to confess her love just faded away.

"Uh, you know what? Why don't we just forget about it? It's not important!" Molly said with a nervous grin.

"Oh, if you say so." Libby let out a disappointed sigh.

Deep down, Libby hoped that the person who Molly had a crush on was her, but decided not to get her hopes up. She knew that she would never be good enough to be Molly's girlfriend. There was no way Molly would fall for someone like her. Seeing that there was no point in thinking about something that could never happen, Libby decided to enjoy the rest of the sleepover.

It wasn't long before Molly and Libby got ready to go to bed. Libby looked through her bag to get everything she needed, but stopped when she noticed that something was missing.

"Oh no. I knew I was forgetting something!"

Molly brought her attention over to her best friend. "What's wrong, Libby?"

"I forgot to bring my sleeping bag." Libby explained. "Oh well. I suppose I could always sleep on the floor."

Molly wasn't going to let Libby feel uncomfortable for the night. She was a guest after all.

"There is no way I'm going to let you sleep on the cold hard floor! Why not sleep in my bed with me?" Molly offered.

Surprised by Molly's offer, Libby blushed at the idea of sleeping with Molly. "Are you sure? Wouldn't that be a little awkward?"

"It's only awkward if we make it awkward!"

Libby thought about it for a moment before she made her decision. "Okay! I suppose I can sleep in your bed if it's alright with you!"

With that, Molly and Libby got under the covers of the bed. This was the first time Libby has ever shared a bed with someone. It admittedly felt kind of nice, knowing that she would be next to Molly the rest of the night.

"Your bed actually feels kind of comfortable, Molly!" Libby commented, enjoying the soft blanket over her.

"It sure does!" Molly leaned to her side to face Libby. "I had a fun time with you tonight, Libby!"

"I had a fun time with you too! I'm actually looking forward to our next sleepover together! Goodnight, Molly!"

"Goodnight, Libby!" Molly wished Libby goodnight before turning off the lights.

As their sleepover came to an end, Molly and Libby slept peacefully together. Even though Molly failed to confess her love for Libby, she wasn't going to give up. She was sure that one day, she would be brave enough to finally tell Libby how she felt.
