Chapter 11

A Spooky Halloween Night

It is Halloween night in Brighton, and everyone was getting ready to go trick or treating. As they got ready to leave, Molly and Libby were hanging out in Molly's attic with Scratch as they already had their costumes on.

Molly was dressed as a supreme court judge with blue robes and a white powdered wig. As for Libby, she wore a pumpkin costume that had the carving of eyes, a nose, and a smile on it.

"Your pumpkin costume looks great, Libby!" Molly commented, admiring her best friend's costume.

"Thanks, Molly! I was originally going to wear a much bigger pumpkin costume this year, but my mom thought it wasn't a good idea because of all the times I stumbled and tripped in the costume." Libby explained. "It was probably for the best. Using a real pumpkin probably wasn't the best idea! It was so gooey in there!"

Hearing this caused Scratch to laugh. "Oh man! I wish I could have been there to see you make a fool of yourself!" Scratch mocked, causing Libby to glare at him. "While you two are spending the night together, I'm going to be heading to a Halloween party in the ghost world! I just need to wait for Geoff. He should be here any minute."

That was when a portal appeared out of nowhere, startling Libby. Out through the portal came Geoff, along with a buff looking ghost.

"Happy Halloween everyone!" Geoff cheerfully greeted his friends.

"Happy Halloween, Geoff!" Molly greeted before she decided to introduce him to Libby. "Libby, this is Geoff! Scratch's best friend from the ghost world.

Upon taking a closer look at Geoff, Libby squinted her eyes. She could have sworn she had seen him before.

"Hey, you look weirdly familiar! Have we met before?" Libby asked.

Suddenly, Molly let out a gasp when she remembered the moment Libby and Geoff actually met.

"Oh, right. Geoff accidentally scared you on the night we took on Howlin' Harriet, causing yourself to knock yourself unconscious on the tree." An awkward silence filled the room, so Molly decided to break the silence when she took one glance at the buff ghost and asked, "Oh, hey! Who are you?"

Geoff then floated over to the ghost and said, "Molly, I would like you to meet my partner, Jeff, spelled with a J!"

"It's nice to meet you, Molly!" The ghost named, Jeff floated over to Molly before shaking her hand. "Geoff has told me a lot about you!"

Seeing this ghost surprised Scratch. He couldn't believe that he has been Geoff's friend for so long, but had no idea that he had a partner.

"Wait, you have a husband?" Scratch asked, surprised. "When did that happen?"

"Jeff and I have been together for 100 years! I tried to tell you, but you didn't seem interested." Geoff explained.

"Uh, I'm pretty sure I would have remembered you telling something like that. Anyway, I'll see you later, Moll. Hope no one laughs at you being with Libby in her weird pumpkin costume!" Scratch teased Libby behind her back.

Molly glared at Scratch. "Hey, Libby looks cute in her pumpkin costume."

Unfortunately for Molly, she wasn't quiet enough and Libby overheard what she said.

"Wait, you think I look cute?" Libby asked with a blush.

Molly's face soon turned red as well as she realized that Libby just heard her.

"Uh, I guess you are a little cute." Molly admitted before awkwardly turned away from Libby.

Upon seeing how awkward Molly and Libby felt around each other, both Geoff and Jeff shared a couple of amused smiles. They had both been together long enough to know exactly what Molly and Libby are thinking.

"Looks like we aren't the only ones here who have feelings for each other, Geoff!" Jeff commented.

Once the ghost were ready to leave, they summoned a portal to the ghost world, leaving Molly and Libby alone together. The girls decided it was time for them to leave too, so they said goodbye to Molly's family before they made their way outside.

As they walked into the night together, Molly and Libby headed over to a corn maze attraction that they have been wanting to go to for awhile. Unfortunately, neither of them were aware that a certain joy hunter was after them.

Determined to find Molly and Libby once more, Jinx floated through a portal, her joy tracker in hand. The moment Jinx entered the human world, her tracker immediately activated, leading her to her targets.

"Hmm. It seems that my two lovebirds are nearby!" Jinx said to herself as she followed the tracker.

Meanwhile, Molly and Libby made their way to the corn maze, both of them excited for what they would find in the attraction.

"This is so exciting, Libby! I can't wait to see what kind of spooky things we would find in there!" Molly exclaimed.

"I'm excited too, Molly! Hopefully it won't be anything too scary!" Libby hoped.

As they entered the maze, Molly and Libby encountered all kinds of spooky creatures, whether it was decorations of scarecrows, lit up jack-o-lanterns, and actors in monster costumes, ready to jump scare anyone who passed by. Surprised by the jump scares, Libby held on to Molly's hand throughout the whole maze.

Despite how scary the maze was, Molly and Libby ended up having a fun time. However, neither of them were aware that Jinx was in the maze with them as well. Thanks to her joy tracker, it was easy for Jinx to find her way through the maze. Before long, Jinx heard laughing in the distance before she followed her tracker to find Molly and Libby.

The two friends walked down the path before they took notice of the purple ghost in front of them. At first they were confused since they didn't remember anyone mentioning the attraction having ghosts. They didn't let it bother them too much as they took a closer look.

"Check it out, Libby! That ghost looks so real!" Molly commented, bringing her attention to Jinx.

"I know! I think the ghost is the scariest part of the attraction so far!" Libby replied.

Molly and Libby's joy soon disappeared when Jinx gave a sinister grin and grabbed her scythe. She slowly floated closer to the girls, causing them both to realize the truth.

"M-Molly?" Libby whispered to Molly in a terrified voice.

"Yeah?" Molly asked, now just as scared as her best friend.

"I don't think that ghost is fake!"

At that moment, Jinx raised her scythe, causing Molly and Libby to scream before dodging out of the way at the last second. Once she realized that she and Libby were in danger, Molly grabbed Libby's hand before they ran away. They both ran through the maze as Jinx called out to them from the darkness of the night.

"I will not let you two escape from me this time! I always find my joy!"

Desperate to get away from the ghost, Molly took Libby to a corner of the maze and hid there, hoping the ghost won't find them. They both hugged each other in fear as Jinx floated above them, thankfully not noticing them.

Once she was sure that Jinx was far away from them, Libby finally found her voice. "Wh-What's going on? Who is that ghost?"

At first, Molly had no idea who that ghost was until she realized something. "Wait a minute! Libby, do you remember when I told you that Scratch warned me about that joy hunter who is after us? I think that is her!"

"That is Jinx?" Libby started to panic. "She's going to kill us, isn't she? We're going to die!"

At that moment, Libby sobbed softly, gaining the attention of nearby sobgoblins. More and more sobgoblins flew around Libby as they fed on her sorrow and despair. It wasn't long before Jinx noticed one of the sobgoblins. The sobgoblin floated towards Jinx, who raised a ghostly finger towards it as she pet it with a smile.

Jinx soon noticed the rest of the sobgoblins, who were floating in the same location. This told her exactly where her targets were hiding. As Jinx slowly floated towards the two friends, Molly began to panic. The sobgoblins were going to give away their hiding spot.

"Libby, please calm down." Molly begged, not wanting to attract any more sobgoblins.

"I'm sorry! I just can't I'm so scared!" Libby continued to cry.

As Jinx got closer, Molly thought of an idea. Libby was taken by surprise when Molly embraced her in a hug and stroked her hair in a comforting manner. That was when Libby began to calm down as she started to feel safe in Molly's arms.

With no despair left to feed on, the sobgoblins flew away, giving Molly and Libby the chance to escape. Once the sobgoblins were gone, Jinx looked around the maze until she took notice of two silhouettes. Convinced that they were the girls she was after, Jinx raised her scythe and slashed off their heads.

Jinx smiled in victory before she realized that the strangers that she "killed" were nothing more than a couple of scarecrow decorations. Soon, Jinx let out a growl as she lost her targets once again.

Meanwhile, Molly and Libby managed to escape from the maze before rushing back home. They both ended up panting from exhaustion.

"Well, that was a close one!" Molly sighed.

"It was. I don't know what would have happened if your weren't there to comfort me! Thank you for making me feel safe!" Libby thanked.

"Don't mention it! I'm sure you would have done the same for me!" Molly smiled.

"I mean it! You have always been there for me, and had done so much for me! Molly, I-"

It was at that moment when Libby paused. She wanted nothing more than to confess her love for Molly, but couldn't find the courage to do so. Deep down, Libby didn't want to risk ruining the friendship they had since they were kids.

"I am glad to have a wonderful friend like you!"

Molly smiled. "Aww! Thanks, Libby! I'm happy to have a wonderful friend like you too! Now, come on! Let's go enjoy the rest of our night!"

Once they were ready, Molly and Libby entered Molly's house. With their scary night over, Molly and Libby enjoyed the rest of their Halloween together, both of them wanting to forget about the terrifying experience they just had;
