Processing. It's what Eddie was doing. She couldn't explain the feeling she was having at the moment. It was a mixture of anger, fear, and sadness. Jamie looked into Eddie's eyes, trying to read her.

"What are you thinking about babe?"

Eddie felt like she was far away. But Jamie was keeping her grounded. She looked straight past Jamie to the window where the sun rays came through, making the most beautiful colors as it set against the busy New York City skyline. The purple was amazing.

"What does this mean for us Jamie? Will you still want to be with me when I have surgery and start dialysis?"

Jamie took Eddie's face in his hands and pulled her in for a kiss. When he pulled away, he noticed tears were streaming down her cheeks again.

"I'm not going anywhere sweetheart. I'm right here every step of the way. We climb mountains together."

Eddie continued to stare at the sun setting against the brilliant lights of the city below her.

"Jamie, I'm 29 years old. What does this mean for our family? I feel like Doctor Stevenson wasn't telling us everything. She was holding something back."

Eddie winced as the blood pressure cuff began to squeeze her arm. Jamie got out of the chair and went to the end of the bed, picking up Eddie's chart. He flipped through a few pages. He didn't find anything of significance and placed the chart back on the end of the bed. Sinking back down into the chair Jamie drummed his index fingers against the side railing of the bed. Running a hand through her hair, he kissed her bandaged forehead.

"We will get through this together. I promise. We can climb this mountain together."

It was going to be a long road. Eddie knew Jamie was never going to leave her side.

"Jamie I'm scared."

Jamie pulled her close again and kissed her.

"I know you are. I am too. But we'll get through this ok?"

Eddie nodded and let Jamie rock her.

"I guess I'm just trying to figure out why I'm just finding out about this now. What does it mean for me on the job?"

Jamie nodded but had a confident look on his face.

"I'll talk to dad, see what he has to say. In the mean time, I'm going to get myself tested to see if I'm a match to give you a kidney."

Eddie felt tears come to her eyes.

"You'd do that for me?"

Jamie nodded with sincerity written on his face.

"Of course I would. You know me, if a stranger needed an organ, I'd get myself tested for them too."

This made Eddie smile. There was always hope.

To Be Continued…

A/N: I hope I'm portraying Jamie and Eddie correctly. Sometimes I feel like I'm writing them like their wooden.
