Chapter 5: Game. Set. Match. The Death of Sonic the Hedgehog!
2059 Robotnik Enterprises, Time Research Lab.
Sonya rushed through the labs as fast as she could, trying to reach the Gateway room in order to do what she set out to do since the nightmare began.
She had failed to stop Sonic from rushing headlong into danger, but she would NOT fail in saving him! Everything depended on what happened here and now, and she would be damned if she couldn't save him!
She skids to a stop in the hallway leading to the gateway room, a look of worry in her eyes.
Sonya: I'm about to reach the Gateway room!
Sonic: And when you get here…? Then what…?
Sonya: Don't worry.
Sonic; Y-yeah… Why would I…? It's not like I have a angry, mind controlled Titan Haldarian standing over me…
Sonya was about to go forward, but Quantum Causality kicked in and caused the hallway to change to a dead end wall! Not good!
Sonya: Oh you gotta be KIDDING ME! Sonic, Quantum Causality just blocked my way!
Sonic: Ack… Don't blame me…
Sonya: I'm not blaming anyone! (Thinking) I need to find another way to the Gateway room!
Sonya zips through a side door, finding a large room full of drones and was filled with unstable energies! She had to move fast, or she was going to be cooked! She finds the exit, and then jumps up a vent shaft, rolling through it as fast as she could.
Sonic: Um… Sky…? You might wanna get a… move on…
Sonya: Just hold on a little longer!
Sonic: You kidding me…? If Valkyr wasn't this busy fighting off the mind control… Id be a blue and red splotch by now…!
Sonya: Point taken, I'll hurry!
Sonya, upon exiting the vent landed and immediately began boosting through the hallways, avoiding all security bots and the like, as she had no time to waste on them. Then she came to ANOTHER room filled with unstable energies!
Sonya: It's getting a little complicated on my end, but I'm almost there!
Sonic: You still… Haven't told me… what happens… when you get here…
Sonya: The only thing I can think of is to go back to your time!
Sonic: Sweet… We'll do lunch…
Sonya: (Thinking) If we get through this, I would love nothing more…
Sonya darted through the unstable energies nearly getting cooked by it, but once through, she was in the last stretch. She just had to crack open the Gateway room door's security lock!
Sonya: You still with me?
Sonic: Guh… Not for much longer if Valkyr has anything to say about it… Sky… I… I'm sorry… I should have listened to you and–
Sonya: It's okay. Believe me, I get it. You were only doing what you had to.
Sonic: Ack…! I didn't think… I'd have to… die for it…
Sonya: You WON'T! I promise!! Just hang on!!
2023 Robotnik Enterprises, Time Research Lab.
Valkyr was holding Sonic up again, this time she wasn't draining any more of his powers, she was draining his strength away…!
Valkyr: Almost…! Pity you…!
Sonic manages to get free, his vision blurry and his body the weakest it's ever been in a long time. He had barely any strength to stand up, and the fact he was was a miracle by itself!
Sonic: That makes… two of us…
Valkyr struggled for control of herself, but once she stopped, she just grabs Sonic, brutally slamming him onto the floor repeatedly, making the crater in the room bigger with each impact! He cried out in pain, and then Valkyr hurled him back into the Gateway room, skidding to a stop in the dead center. He was breathing heavily, his whole body shaking, his fur ragged and bloody, and his jacket and gloves were torn! He looks up at Jeremiah Robotnik, who was grinning smugly.
Jeremiah: A good try, Sonic. But I have had a long time to plan this. I kept you close, and your enemies closer. I kept you close to keep an eye on you, make use of you. But now you're done. And I, with you. Valkyr?
Valkyr leapt into the room, landing behind Sonic. Sonic looks back in absolute fear.
Jeremiah: Crush him.
Sonic: … S-sky… A little help…!
Sonic looks back in front of him, and he begins crawling whilst Valkyr was walking to him. The longer he crawled, the slower he got… This was it. This was the end of the line for Sonic.
Sonic: Sky… I-if you're there I… I got nothing left… No power… No… no nothing… you tried to warn me… I was an idiot…
Sky: Stop talking about yourself in the past tense! This isn't over yet!
Sonic: Spoken like someone… who isn't here…
Sonya: I WILL be! Just hold on!
Sonic was now crawling at a snail's pace, trying to reach the gateway. Valkyr was RIGHT THERE, and yet each time she got close, she would struggle for control… Sonic reaches for the gateway but then he drops his hand, unable to move anymore. The blood loss was too much.
Sonya: I'm doing what I can! Come on, Sonic! Where's that never say die attitude?!
Sonic: I don't need to say it… to do it… and I'm out of jokes…
Sonic gets grabbed by Valkyr, who roared in his face. She struggled from control and dropped him again, backing up as she tried to stop herself! Sonic's adrenaline kicked in and he slowly got on his feet. He looks down at his hand, then clenches it into a fist. He wasn't going to die laying down. He was going to go out swinging. Valkyr jumps towards him, and with every ounce of remaining strength he could muster, he yelled out, leapt to her, and the two socked eachother in the face. Valkyr was knocked out cold, and Sonic's body hit the floor in front of the gateway with a subtle thump. His eyes closed and the last breath he had left his body. His hearing faded away, and his body went limp.
Sonic the Hedgehog, the fastest thing alive, was dead. Just as he died, his body was pulled through the gateway by some energy rope, getting him to safety.
Valkyr would awaken moments after, still under the mind control.
2059 Robotnik Enterprises Time Research Lab Gateway Room.
Sonya held Sonic's lifeless body in her arms. She walked to a seperate room adjacent from the gateway room, and as she did, she was shedding tears. She failed. She failed to stop Sonic from going headlong into danger, and now she had failed to save him. She held him close, sobbing…
Sonya: Why…? Why didn't you listen to me…? (Thinking) It's not HIS fault, it's MINE…! I failed, I was too slow…!
Sonya looks up from Sonic's body, and then she sees a Regeneration Pod. Then she stops sobbing.
Sooya: … No. No, there's still a chance. This HAS to work…
She moves quickly over to the pod, opens it up and then carefully places Sonic's body in it. She wipes her tears away as it closes and activates. She would kneel down and sit beside the pod.
Sonya: Please… Let this work…
2023 Robotnik Enterprises Time Research Lab Gateway Room.
Jeremiah stood proudly. He had finally done it. Everything he had dreamed of doing, all the plans he made, all the hard work and dedication had finally come to fruition! Sonic the Hedgehog, the biggest problem his grandfather had, was finally dead!
And yet… There were some details he apparently didn't account for.
He would fix that later, but he needed to get the Gateway back up and running again.
Dr Eggman: What have you gotten me into the middle of, Jeremiah?! I was close to retirement for the love of–
Jeremiah: Stop whining, grandfather. You knew I was out to change the future.
Dr Eggman: But I didn't know the future would fight back! The forces we're unleashing with this quantum tunnel–
Jeremiah: IT IS UNDER CONTROL.
Jeremiah was steadily losing his patience for his grandfather. After everything he had done, Ivo should be grateful for what Jeremiah did!
Dr Eggman: IT'S OUT OF CONTROL! And we can't be sure if Sonic is actually dead!!
Jeremiah: We'll send Valkyr through to make sure, the gateway just needs a minute to recharge if it's going to send her through safely.
Dr Eggman growls, but he begins working on getting the gateway back online.
2059 Robotnik Enterprises Time Research Lab.
Sonya stayed beside the pod Sonic rested in, but then she heard the alarm blare. Uh oh.
Sonya: No… The gateway's powering up!
She zips into the gateway room, and just on the other side of the gate, she sees Valkyr was up and about ready to jump through!
Sonya: Oh no you DON'T!
Sonya quickly ran to the gateway, jumped through it, and kicked Valkyr in the face so hard, she got sent flying back!!
Sonya: Bring it on, you 16 foot patsy!!
Dr Eggman: What the hell?! The place is crawling with speedy hedgehogs!
Jeremiah: Don't worry, Valkyr will break this one too.
Valkyr rushes forward and grabs Sonya, trying to drain her powers… But there wasn't anything to drain! Sonya kicks Valkyr off of her, smirking.
Dr Eggman: What the? Why aren't Valkyr's powers draining–
Sonya: Because mine weren't given to me by the Chaos Emeralds, if you HAVE to know.
Jeremiah: … Didn't know, don't care.
Sonya and Valkyr rush at each other again, and Sonya, yet again, kicked her in the face.
It was time to put an end to this nightmare.
