Alternative take of the akumatization scene in the season 4 episode 'Chat Blanc'.

Mostly about hurt/comfort but still sweet.

Day #24: Out of Time

Finding out that his father was Hawkmoth and that his missing mother had been comatose under his home all this time was too much for Adrien to process at the same time. Which was probably how said father was able to super-smack him out of the mansion and all the way to the Eiffel Tower.

Chat Noir slammed into the tower's metal frame and landed hard at the base.

Hawkmoth landed smoothly on his feet in front of him. "We can save your mother, using your miraculous and hers," he said to him. Chat crawled back away from him.

"No. Just stop," Chat replied, frightened.

His father—the super villain he'd been hunting for all this time—was trying to convince him to join him. To help him take Ladybug's miraculous, give up his own, to bring his mother back to them.

Ladybug touched down on the ground with them off to his left. "Don't listen to him! You know there'd be a terrible price to pay in exchange," she reminded him.

"If she really loves you, she'd let you save your mother!"

Ladybug was appalled by this man. To think, he'd been her favorite fashion icon. His man, who had threatened to pull Adrien from school if she didn't break up with him. It all made sense now. She'd almost been akumatized that day. That was exactly what he had wanted.

Having to break up with him broke her heart. Gabriel could have ordered Adrien to just break up with her for a similar outcome but he mostly likely didn't want Adrien to hate him for making him do that. Plus, she was pretty sure that if Adrien just broke up with her out of the blue, she'd suspect that it was only because of his tyrannical father and be less heartbroken. This way, his hands stayed clean.

But not anymore.

Adrien had transformed right there in front of the mansion to save her from being akamatized. He must have seen. Which was why he was exposing himself, his plans, and making his ultimate move against them.

She'd do anything for Adrien and she wanted him to have his mother back but this wasn't the way. The wish was too risky. She'll gladly help them both find another way if they could just stop all of this and talk.

"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" Chat screamed. He was confused, scared, and on the verge of a panic attack. He just wanted this all to stop!

Anticipating his son's distress, Hawkmoth opened the top of his cane, releasing an akuma, sending it straight for him.

The dark butterfly quickly merged with his bell.

"Chat Blanc," Hawkmoth spoke to him, face to face, but Chat could also feel the voice in his head. "I'm giving you the infinite power of destruction! Together, you and I will seize Ladybug's miraculous and awaken your mother! Obey!"

Chat grabbed his head and groaned in pain, trying to fight the persuasive voice that had been ordering him around for years.

On the one hand, he couldn't just give Hawkmoth what he wanted.

But on the other, Chat wanted it too.

To bring his mother back.

He knew that it was wrong. He didn't want to fight his lady and take her miraculous. He didn't want to cause a disaster if they made the wish.

He was torn. He was sad. And right now, he was weak.

He couldn't fight it.

Eventually, Chat stopped straining and leaned his head up to the sky. "I'm sorry, Ladybug," he whimpered before the black miasma overtook his body.

In Chat Noir's place was a boy in a pure white cat suit, with a matching mask and white hair. His eyes had turned from emerald green to a cold, piercing blue that were full of despair.

"Seize her miraculous, my son!" Hawkmoth ordered him.

Unable to help it, Chat Blanc pointed his right hand at Ladybug with a sphere of bright blue destructive energy in his palm. Fortunately, he was still fighting enough that he didn't fire right away, and his left arm was holding onto it, like he was trying to stop himself. He stared at her, straining, not sure what to do.

"No Adrien! You have to resist!" Ladybug pleaded to him.

Still straining, Chat moved his powerful hand over and pointed it at his father.

"How dare you? Not me, Adrien!" Hawkmoth scolded him.

He was his akuma now. His son. He should be obeying him without hesitation. Why wasn't he taking Ladybug down?!

This wasn't good. Ladybug could see her beloved kitty and prince was struggling. He didn't know who to listen to. She couldn't let him side with Hawkmoth, but she was more worried about what his powers of infinite destruction could do with him in such distress.

It wouldn't be enough to just take his bell and release the akuma. He needed to calm down and chose on his own before he did something regretful.

Although it was stupid, reckless, and completely crazy, Ladybug bolted forward. She slid to her knees and wrapped her arms around him.

Chat Noir. Chat Blanc. He was still her kitty.

"Chat! Adrien, please! Please don't do this!" she cried, holding him tight.

"No!" Hawkmoth shouted. He stepped closer, intending to pry her away from his son but Chat pointed his hand directly at him again, stopping him in his tracks.

Akumatized or not, he wasn't letting him come any closer to him or his lady.

"Chat," Ladybug said, still holding onto him. "I know you're hurting. I know you feel betrayed, and I know you want to see your mother again. But this isn't the way," she pleaded to him. "I can't give you my miraculous, you can't make the wish, but things are not hopeless. I'm here with you. I love you and I'll do whatever I can for you. We can look for a better way together." Chat continued to struggle, his eyes closed in pain. He raised his right arm up, the energy sphere growing a bit more. Ladybug pulled back just enough to cup both his cheeks in her hands. "We can end this, here and now. You and me against the world, remember?" Slowly, Chat opened his eyes and looked into hers. Even though they were a different color, Ladybug still only saw her Chat. "Please…let go of the pain. I've got you," she said tenderly.

Chat's strained expression soon turned to one of calmness.

In this state, he was weak all alone. But with her, he was strong. Strong enough to fight.

After several deep breathes, his right hand above his head slowly closed, dissipating the blue energy. Then just like that, the black miasma consumed his body again, transforming him back into Chat Noir. The akuma flew out of his bell, turning from dark purple and black to pure white.

Chat practically collapsed into his lady. She happily caught him, wrapping her arms around him. His arms enveloped her back. "Thank you," he whispered into her ear.

She saved him. Maybe even the whole world.

"What?! No!" Hawkmoth shrieked in outrage.

And with that, Chat Noir and Ladybug's heads snapped up and they sprang into action.

Chat leapt at him. Hawkmoth's cane clashed with his baton. The young blonde was still horrified with the knowledge that this man was his father—while also thinking back to the other few times they had fought face to face like this in the past.

But he was focused this time.

This time, he wasn't going to let his father win.

As they fought, Ladybug's yoyo wound itself around Hawkmoth's ankles. When she pulled on the wire, he fell over, landing hard on his back. The next instant, Chat jumped on top of him, pinning him down with his baton. And before the older man could even get his breath back, Chat grabbed the butterfly pendant from his throat.

He already knew that this villain was his father, but actually seeing Hawkmoth's mask disappear and see Gabriel Agreste's face made it even more real.

Missing miraculous in hand, Chat quickly leapt off his father like he was on fire. A few paces behind him, Ladybug was right there. He stood by her as she kept a firm hold of her yoyo cord, making sure Gabriel's legs stayed secure so he couldn't run away or attack them.

"It's over, Gabriel," Ladybug said.

It was indeed over. Both super heroes dreaded to think of what would have happened if Chat hadn't freed himself in time—with his lady's guiding presence, of course.

Luckily, time had been on their side.
