Later That Day

Tommy tugged on the shoes his mommy had made him wear. Normally he didn't like wearing anything on his feet, because it was so much more fun to feel everything against your toes when you went on an adventure, but he supposed the shoes were okay here, since it was kind of cold.

And anything that let him give the adults an adventure so they would let him explore as much as he wanted and get in trouble and have fun was a great thing!

"Are you sure about this Tommy?" Chuckie said as Tommy undid the latch on the stroller and got out. His mommy and daddy were at a big desk talking to some guy about keys. "Maybe they don't like adventures."

"Everyone loves adventures Chuckie! The grown ups just forgot what it was like to go on them! But if we give'em one then they'll realize we should go on adventures too! Now, let's look around for ways they can have fun-"

"Uh uh uh," Aunt Charlotte said, reaching down and grabbing Tommy and Chuckie, "can't have you wandering away! We have to see our rooms!"

"Thanks Charlotte," Stu said, taking Tommy while Chas took Chuckie. "Come on Champ, let's check things out!"

Tommy wasn't detured! The adults would have an adventure! He'd see it happen…

"Hiya kids!"

"Reptar!" Tommy squealed, clapping his hands. He and a bunch of other babies were watching a puppet show, Didi sitting close by reading a book, occasionally looking up to make sure Tommy was fine. "Okay… maybe just this show… but then I give'em their adventure!"

"Hahahaha!" Tommy laughed as Chas pulled him and Tommy on the sled. Tommy reached down to touch the snow and giggled. Even Chuckie was having fun. "Okay… one more ride. Then adventure!"

Phil and Lil smeared the yummy smelling paint on their cheeks, laughing up a storm but Tommy was focused on his own little painting. Normally mommy didn't like him playing with paint but she'd said these paints were fine… and they smelled like cookies! They didn't taste that great but mommy hadn't yelled at him for licking his fingers so Tommy figured it was okay… but he'd rather paint his picture, dabbing his fingers in the nutmeg and cinnamon-scented paint.

"One more painting and then… uh… I'll… do that thing!" Tommy nodded to himself.

"Open wide!" Stu said as he fed Tommy some apple sauce, everyone gathered in the kitchen for Christmas Eve Dinner; Didi had decided to cook the day before so she could enjoy the holiday.

Tommy licked his lips though he couldn't help but think he'd forgotten something…

"Merry Christmas Tommy!" Santa said, the baby screaming in shock and joy at seeing Santa come in and give him a present. "I hear you like to explore… so here is a pop up book of the world. Now you can have fun adventures!"

Tommy accepted it and babbled his thanks.
