Hey readers, Chapter 88 is here! The storm is growing bigger and darker, and the true enemy has shown themselves. Link and Aviel are off to save the rito town of Dhaijialoft, but just what does this new enemy have waiting for them? Read and find out!
"Do... you think we got away from them...?" gasped out Saria as she and Nemisa had come to a stop to rest after they had taken shelter in an alleyway between two rows of buildings. They had managed to fend off the mob that attacked them and get away, but lost track of where Link and Aviel had escaped to.
"Think so. These damn ungrateful birds, after how hard Aviel worked to please them they go and do something like that?" Nemisa spoke clenching her fist.
"Something about that whole riot just didn't seem right. I think they were already way more skeptic then they should have been before Aviel did the ceremony, like something or someone influenced them beforehand..." Saria pondered, "I just hope Link and Aviel made it out okay. My ocarina is at the mayor's house along with Link's, so I can't even check in on them."
"I know how you feel," sighed Nemisa, "But they're both strong, and we've all been through worse than an unruly feathered mob. For now let's try to find Korume and V, I'm worried about them as well, and they can help us find Link and Aviel."
"Yeah, okay." Saria nodded, as they continued along in their search, making sure to duck out of sight when they thought a villager or guard was nearby.
In one building of the town, there was a dark room where Korume was bound in ropes, and unable to escape due to being cuffed by magic-neutralizing bracelets preventing her from using her ice spells. She had been captured by the mysterious organization known as the Order of Reyahm, but that didn't stop her from listening in on the conversations going on outside the room she was confined in.
"So they're on their way here with the orb?" she heard a man speak, it was the strange gruff man with the purple beard who had been with V earlier.
"Yes sir, the young dragon did just as he was asked and melted the ice protecting it." spoke another man.
"Excellent, it's fortunate that the priestess brought him here, he was just one we we needed to get to it."
"Yes, it went better then we originally planned. He also did a fine job scaring the villagers a while ago. It won't be long before we can start the ritual, the weather's just about right."
Korume heard the gruff man snicker, "Yes, I've waited a long time for this moment, now let us go." she then heard fading stepping sounds, telling her they had left.
"I have to get out of here..." Korume said struggling with the ropes, "He can't have that orb!"
Some time past, and Korume failed to do anything about the bindings she was in. She sighed out and wondered if there was any way she could contact the others...
But then the door opened, and Korume looked up in surprise to see V standing there. His long hair was obscuring his eyes from her perspective.
"..."
"V... or I suppose that's not your real name now is it?" Korume said narrowing her eyes coldly, "Have you forgotten how Link spared you from death back at the Goron Mines? Because I certainly won't show you the same mercy for betraying us all, you wretched little worm..."
"..." V didn't say a word, but instead went behind Korume, and in a few seconds, the bracelets were undone and the ropes were untied, freeing her.
"Wha-?" Korume was rather startled at what V did despite her threat.
"You guys better leave now, who knows what he'll do to you if you stay..." V whispered as he just walked out of the room right after.
Korume was tempted to do something about V, but realized she had more important matters to attend to, and escaped from the house out a window to go track down the others.
At the same time, the nobleman and wizard of Dhaijialoft known as Mr. Barrank was in the lounge of his mansion estate. He sat on a soft chair as his butler Tonashi poured him a cup of tea.
"Thank you Tonashi..." muttered Barrank. He had a look of unease as he found himself dwelling on what had happened earlier with the mob attacking the priestess Aviel.
"Is something the matter sir?" Tonashi asked.
"...no, it's nothing." Barrank spoke, "Just a little shaken after what happened at the ceremony I suppose."
"I thought so, my little sister seems to be just as bad off about it." Tonashi said, "I could understand after what happened to the priestess."
Barrank paused as he glanced over at one chair where Tonashi's little sister Pecoli sat, looking downcast. She had just come back to the mansion and was trying to absorb all that had happened, having seen Aviel fail to awaken the Great Fairy, the mob that attacked her, witnessing the priestess shoot a Rito with an arrow, and then her jumping off the side of the cliff with Link into the fog below the town...
The wealthy nobleman Rito wasn't a fool, he was aware of how well Pecoli had gotten along with the priestess, and it must have hurt her greatly to see the town turn against her like that. As his butler went off on his way, Barrank put a hand over his eyes and sighed out, slumping back in his chair, he then took a look over at the Roc's Wings he was given after they were taken away from Aviel.
Barrank would never admit it to anyone else in town, but he was a rare type of flightless Rito. When he'd walk through town, he'd see the flying Rito go by on their business, and felt envy over their ability, something no amount of fame and fortune could grant him. He had hoped to take advantage of the revolt against Aviel to take the wings for himself and finally fly like them, but shortly after getting back home he found himself unable to use the wings at all, they just didn't work on him for some reason.
In a strange way, his inability to fly sort of connected him with the land-dwellers, and he wondered how it felt like for the priestess to be able to fly as she could.
Barrank thought to himself, 'I wanted to have the priestess chased out of here so that I could remain the protector of the town... that's why I spread all those rumors. I didn't think the people would react as extreme as they did...'
The nobleman got himself up and started to walk out of the room. He stopped and looked down at Pecoli, seeing the sad look in her eyes. The normally self-important Rito man found himself reaching down and giving Pecoli an assuring rub on the head, surprisingly her, as he silently went off on his way.
Barrank soon arrived at a door in the far back of the mansion. Looking around to make sure no one was watching, he unlocked the door with a key he hid in his shirt cuff and went into the room.
Inside was a tall, strange pedestal with ancient symbols written on it, and on top of it was a small medallion slowly spinning in place. It was generating a gentle icy wind around the room and out of the skylight in the ceiling.
'If they acted that way about the priestess, I wonder what they would do if they knew the truth about me...?' Barrank thought to himself.
He turned and stepped out of the room, about to lock it up, when a hand reached out and stopped him.
"Huh?"
Barrank jumped back to see standing there was a group of people in silver robes, members of The Order of Reyahm. The Rito man broke out into a cold sweat upon seeing all of them there, and so suddenly.
"Chaplain Iktiakh, it-it's you?" Barrank asked to the one at the front, "How did you get into my estate?"
"Greetings Mr. Barrank." spoke Iktiakh, ignoring the bird's question, "How has business been for you?"
"Kwaaaa... what do you want?! I thought our transaction was over!" Barrank said.
"Is that what you assumed? Heh..." Iktiakh chuckled, "We're actually here to take what we loaned you back."
"Wha-?" Barrank exclaimed, flapping his wings and stomping his foot, "What do you mean loaned? I paid you a king's ransom for the Ether Medallion! I've been using that thing to keep the people of this town safe from intruders for years now, I won't allow you to take it!"
"It's amusing you think that way Mr. Barrank. You see, that payment was just a meager loan fee." Iktiakh explained, "But your loan has expired, so we'll be taking it back now."
Barrank gulped as sweat went down his head. He had met with the Order of Reyahm some time ago to obtain magic powerful enough to help him protect the Rito's village, making him as rich and famous as he was with them now. He never would had expected the Order to come back and extort what he had bought from them.
"Now make things simple and hand it over, for the time of awakening has finally come." Iktiakh spoke.
"Awakening?" The long-necked Rito gasped out, looking out his window and seeing the storm overhead, "No... you can't be serious... so you really intend to release it?!" Barrank shouted, before narrowing his eyes angerly, "Kwaaaah! I won't allow that! I may be greedy, but even I know the consequences of unleashing that horrible menace! If you want the medallion you'll have to get through me first!"
"So be it." Iktiakh said. He snapped his fingers, as some of the other robed monks around him lunged out at Barrank with jagged sacrificial daggers.
But the Rito retaliated by spreading out his wings and squawking loudly, as he scraped his legs against the floor to prepare for battle. He swung his leg out and bashed one of the monks away, then did a forward headbutt to take down the other. Two more lunged out at Barrank but he leaped into the air and stomped them both into the ground under his powerful legs.
"...impressive." spoke Iktiakh, "As pompous as you are, you're a strong one."
"Better believe it! Kwaahaahaha!" laughed Barrank, "Now leave this village before I do the same to you!"
"It's a shame, you could have been useful to us, but you choose the wrong path." the man spoke.
"Huh?" Barrank asked in confusion, only to suddenly feel a sharp pain in his side, as he saw someone had plunged a dagger into his back.
"Baaaccwwkkk!" Barrank fell down shaking, as he rose his head up and saw just who it was that stabbed him, "Wha-?"
"I apologize for the sudden injury Master, but you're in the way of what we desire."
"Et tu, Tonsahi...?!" Barrank gasped out, before he collapsed on the ground outcold from the pain.
"Now then," Tonsahi spoke with a serious glare, as he cleaned the blood off his dagger and put on a silver robe of his own and pulled up the hood, "Let's go, it's time she finally pay for what's happened to us..."
"Of course Mr. Tonashi. By the way, were you ever able to find the other one I mentioned?" Iktiakh asked.
"I'm afraid not Chaplain, I only know it was brought here some time ago." Tonashi shook his head.
"Well it doesn't matter too much for now I suppose, we've already claimed the orb."
Meanwhile, peeking out from a corner was Pecoli, who had just watched the whole encounter. Her body was trembling as she had saw her brother stab Mr. Barrank in cold blood.
"Big Bro..." she whispered. After what she had seen with Aviel shooting that Rito man and jumping off the cliff, and now her own brother working with those strange people, she didn't know what to think anymore. She quickly turned and ran off, going into the lounge and taking the Roc's Wing sleeves with her.
But before she could leave the estate, another figure in a silver cloak leaped down in front of her. Pecoli squeaked out and hugged the Roc's Wings close to herself.
"Well, well..." spoke an amused woman's voice, "What do you have there, then...?"
"Just who are you all, and what do you want with our town, piou?" Mayor Nymnalo asked as he and a large number of Rito villagers were confronted by a group of people in silver cloaks.
After Aviel and Link had fallen off the cliff, the mayor confronted and berated the village for their mob behavior, stating that priestess or not, everyone was to blame for putting so much pressure and expectation on Aviel. While some still believed her to be a fraud, many of the people indeed felt guilty about what had happened. But by the time they had decided to further discuss the matter and organize a search party for the two, these strange people had arrived to speak out to them all.
At the front were three men, a woman and a child; the long black-haired man known as Chaplain Iktiakh, the woman with the squinted eyes and the white hair-buns named Jianya, a larger bulkier man with a hood over his head, the mysterious purple-bearded man with the blank white eye, as well as the fire dragon child V. Even Pecoli was there, being held in the back of the group by one of the hooded people.
"I'll make this quick and simple for you." spoke Iktiakh as the clock-like monocle he wore gave off a gleam of light, "We are the great Order of Reyahm, the ones who shall cleanse this world of the cruel and evil gods that taint it, and replace them with new divine beings of superior virtue and strength. As part of our goals, we've come here for the great power hidden within the mountains of Snowpeak."
"...I don't know what you're talking about." Nymnalo spoke, feigning ignorance of the Great Fairy of Balance sleeping within the Wind Temple, "As the mayor I ask that you leave this place now and never return, piou."
"I respect your authority, but we are not making a request. Soon my associates will arrive with what we need, and the ritual of revival shall commence." Iktiakh smirked.
"R-Revival...?" Nymnalo stammered.
"Yes the revival of the great storm dragon, Geelorokhi." Iktiakh stated.
Nymnalo and the Rito villagers all squawked out in shock, the people started talking wildly among each other at this news.
"The horrible dragon that threatened our town ten years ago?"
"But the Sky Guardian destroyed him once and for all!"
"How could they possibly bring him back?!"
"Heh... so you fools truly believe the Roc actually destroyed the mighty Geelorokhi?" spoke the gruff man with the purple beard, confusing everyone, "You'd be surprised what secrets those who claim to protect you hold."
"Either way we'll never allow you to revive that monster. Guards, detain them!" Nymnalo said, as a group of the Rito guards ran out and attacked the Order of Reyahm members.
Before the guards could even come close to Iktiakh, the large bulky man stepped out in front of them and with one powerful swing on his arm, the man smacked all the guards far away to the ground.
"You shall not land one wing on my master, birdie people." spoke the man pulling back his hood. He had a large clean-shaven face with his hair done back into a long, tight ponytail. He also had earrings on both ears, as well as painted lines going down his cheeks, "I am Omaldak the all-mighty monk!"
"Oh dear, they're all such weaklings..." spoke Jianya, bringing up her hand to her cheek, revealing to the crowd that she was wearing the Roc's Wings on her arms, "Then again, I doubt anyone could do anything against Omaldak."
"Are... those Priestess Aviel's wings?" Nymnalo exclaimed, wondering how she got them.
Before he could even get a response from them, another silver-cloaked individual flew down from the sky and landed beside Chaplain Iktiakh.
"So, have you retrieved it from our associates?" Iktiakh asked.
"Yes Chaplain, it's already been prepared for the ritual." the hooded person spoke with a male voice somewhat familiar to Nymnalo. He reached into his cloak and pulled out the strange purple orb that Roc had been watching over before.
"That orb... y-you can't be serious!" Nymnalo exclaimed, "The Sky Guardian told us with his last breath that he used that to destroy the Geelorokhi ten years ago!"
"And you believed him? Tsk, such a naive town we've all become." spoke the hooded person, before he pulled back his cloak revealing to the Rito that he was Barrank's butler Tonashi, "My dear sister and I should have departed from this place long ago."
"T-Tonashi?" Mayor Nymnalo exclaimed, "Why are you working with these fiends, piou?"
Tonashi said nothing at first, but looked over to Pecoli who had a sad look in her eyes as she was being held by one of the Reyahm monks. She turned her head away from her brother and he grimaced.
"...it's been a long time coming. After all we've suffered, it's time to take our revenge on the Fairy Goddess Venus." Tonashi spoke, turning and narrowing his eyes at Nymnalo.
"Wha-?" Nymnalo spoke in shock.
Tonashi said nothing more, but handed the purple orb to a Reyahm monk, who brought it over to where three more of them were standing.
One of the monks lowered their head down, muttering something in prayer, before another monk took out a jagged dagger and impaled them with it, shocking the Rito. The attacker gruesomely yanked the knife out and their comrade fell over lifelessly. The other three then immediately started working on using the dead one's blood to draw a circle with symbols on the ground.
"They... took the life of one of their own people?" exclaimed Crissile in shock.
"How sick are they?!" spoke another Rito.
"Sacrifice is a necessity for the greater good, as you'll soon realize. That man spent his life with us purifying his blood to prepare for this very day." Chaplain Iktiakh spoke.
Omaldak meanwhile stared out at the ritual and the man who had just been slain. He put his hands together and lowered in his head silently. Jianya just stared at the sacrificial ritual and looked away with a somewhat uneasy glance.
Iktiakh then pulled out the Ether Medallion that he took from Barrank and held it into the sky. The medallion gave off a strange glow, as cold wind started to blow around the town. This caused the storm clouds above to gather closer and spin together, growing darker as they did.
"With this, preparations are now complete. Commence with the ritual!" Iktiakh commanded.
The orb was placed in the center of the blood circle, as the three monks started chanting in prayer. The purple orb started to glow oddly, as a loud rumble echoed across the land and flashes of lightning went off in the far distance.
The gruff purple-haired man with V smirked wickedly as he looked up at the sky, "Finally, nothing can stop me now..."
The gruff purple-haired man then felt a strange chill however, and looked up to see a spear made from pure ice fly right at him. He sidestepped and quickly evaded the attack.
"Hmph, it's that woman again... just how did she escape?" spoke Chaplain Iktiakh, looking up to see Korume the ice mystic floating down on her broom.
"K-Korume?" V whispered, "I thought I told her to run..."
"Woah, it's one of the false priestess' companions?" spoke a Rito as Korume landed down to her feet.
"I'll have a chat with you moronic dodos about that 'false priestess' business later..." Korume spoke coldly, "For now though, my focus is with these despicable occultists."
Some hooded monks charged at Korume with their sacrificial daggers out, but she evaded their attacks, then thrust out her ice spears, impaling and killing them with little effort.
"Oooh, I like her style..." giggled Jianya.
Korume glared at the members of the Order, pointing one of her spears out, "Now let's make this simple; put an end to this deranged ritual, and I won't skewer the rest of you... too much."
"Hmph, you really think you're in a position to give demands, mystic?" Iktiakh spoke.
"If you don't then I'll just make you suffer." Korume spoke as she fired off some ice shards at Iktiakh, but he suddenly created an barrier made of ice to block them off.
"What...? This magic energy feels familiar..." Korume spoke, staring at Chaplain Iktiakh and noted the medallion he held in his hand, "Now I see, that's the Ether Medallion isn't it?"
"...indeed it is." Iktiakh nodded, "This is a relic of ancient Hyrule history, said to be crated by the accursed golden goddess of law Nayru. It's capable of generating powerful wind and ice at the holder's whims." he chuckled a little, "It's a shame you're working for the wrong side, mystic. Like Barrank, your skill and knowledge would had been invaluable to the Order."
"So that's how that obnoxious ostrich was protecting the town when I didn't sense any magic from him. He was using the Ether Medallion to create the blizzard barrier." Korume realized.
"That's correct." Tonashi spoke with a nod, "Back when he did the transaction with the Order for the medallion, they approached me about working with them in the future, and I accepted."
"What?" exclaimed Mayor Nymnalo, "So that's how Barrank did it?"
"Then... Mr. Barrank isn't a wizard? He was just using borrowed power from these maniacs?" spoke one of the Rito.
"How many times are we going to be fooled today...?" spoke another.
"At any rate, if you still defy us then we'll just be taking that power of yours now, ice mystic." Chaplain Iktiakh spoke, gesturing to some of the monks, "Deal with her."
More monks ran out at Korume with their daggers, but they were interrupted by a barrage of deku seeds being shot out of nowhere and blasting them away from the ice mystic.
"Keep away from Korume you jerks!" spoke a young voice, as standing some distance away was Saria, gripping her Deku Staff and ready to fight.
"Nice work Saria." Korume smiled pleasantly at her fellow fiance to Link.
More of the monks ran forward at Saria with their daggers, but she blocked them off with her staff and knocked them away, before blasting them with a barrage of Deku Seeds. Some fired off magic bursts at her, but she brought up a large plant root from the ground to block off the attacks, before manipulating it to swing out like a whip to smack them away.
"What a fascinating weapon..." muttered Iktiakh scratching his chin, "Could that be the power of...?"
Some more monks attacked Saria, but Nemisa came running in before leaping through the air and jump-kicking one monk before delivering a powerful rolling kick into another. A third tried to stab her from behind, but she backflipped over them and kicked them across the back of the head, breaking their neck in the process.
"Leave the Rito alone, or you'll end up like your friend here!" Nemisa said striking a martial arts pose. She had Link's equipment as well as Aviel's spare arrow quivers strapped to her back, she and Saria having managed to find time to pick up their equipment at the mayor's estate.
"Hrm, not a bad technique..." muttered Tonashi.
"They're actually helping us...?" spoke one Rito, "After all we did to them and the priestess...?!"
"Enough of this foolishness, time is of the essence," spoke Chaplain Iktiakh, "Get rid of them." he said to Jianya, Omaldak and Tonashi, along with the other monks.
"Oh, this should be quite fun, it's been a while since I could go all-out!" spoke Jianya.
"I'll make short and immediate work of them, Mr. Iktiakh." Tonashi said striking a kung-fu poise.
"And I will give them all a taste of true tasty might, that tastes mighty." Omaldak spoke, pounding his fist into his palm.
"Great, we're out-numbered." Saria said, huddling close to Nemisa and Korume.
"Not a problem, we can handle this." Nemisa said cracking her knuckles.
Meanwhile V just looked on with a sense of unease, then made a small glance to the Rito who were all scared of what to do.
But before any battling could even start, there was a loud screech that went off which could be heard across the mountain town. Everyone looked around in confusion of what could had made that sound, all except the gruff purple-haired man, who narrowed his eyes.
"Hmph, him again..."
A large majestic bird with red and yellow feathers came down through a break in the clouds, landing down to his feet before gasping out and collapsing in exhaustion. Jumping off of him was two familiar faces that surprised everyone.
"Hey, we made it!" Aviel said before turning to the large bird, "Grandpa Roc, you alright?"
"Yes, just... just a bit worn out..." gasped Roc, "Watching over the orb took a lot out of me..."
"Well thanks for getting us here, looks like we got here just in time for the party." Link said, looking out at the monks.
"It's... the priestess and her friend?!" spoke a Rito.
"And the Sky Guardian Roc is with them?!" exclaimed another, quickly taking to bowing to the bird.
"Aviel?!" Pecoli's eyes lit up at seeing Aviel alive and well. She tried to take a step forward but the monk she was with held her back.
"I can't believe it..." Nymnalo spoke with wide eyes as the other Rito all bowed down to Roc.
"Ugh... not that worshiping thing again..." Roc groaned as he rolled his eyes.
"Link, Aviel!" Saria called out in relief and happiness, running up and hugging Aviel, "I'm so glad you're both okay, did you have a rough time?"
"Hee hee, thanks Saria. Actually things turned out better then I could have thought!" Aviel giggled cryptically.
"Link! Thank Aifet you and Aviel are both okay!" Nemisa said, running towards Link, only to run at him even faster after realizing he was currently shirtless. She embraced him tightly, running her hands lustfully over his chest and bare back.
"My beloved, we're so glad to see the two of you..." Korume said clinging affectionately to his arm.
"It's good to be back girls." Link grinned, hugging them both. Nemisa handed him his sword, shield, Longshot and Fairy Bow, while she gave Aviel her spare arrow quivers.
With his equipment set up, Link stepped forward with his sword arm ready, "And now we're ready to fight."
"Yeah, time to save the Rito!" Aviel said gripping her crossbow and loading an arrow into it.
"Oooh my... now just who is this hunk of man here?" Jianya asked, looking at Link up and down, slowly licking her lips and going into a battle stance. She rose up one leg and both her arms, showing off the Roc's Wing sleeves she was wearing, "I'd like to take him on myself..."
"Hey, those are the wings Grandpa Roc gave me!" Aviel shouted. She ran at the woman but was blocked off by Tonashi dashing in and swiping at the Gerudo girl with a karate chop, forcing her to back off.
"A thousand pardons Ms. Priestess, but I can not allow you to interfere." Tonashi said.
"Huh? I don't get it... why are V and Mr. Tortellini working for these guys?" Aviel asked looking between the butler and their dragon friend.
"My name is Tonashi." the butler said sweatdropping.
"I don't know about the bird, but you won't believe me when I tell you about V..." Korume said wielding her ice spears, "I overheard some conversations by this Order of Reyahm, and it appears the Rito were deceived in more ways then they could have possibly imagined..."
Roc heard those words and grimaced a bit, knowing where this was heading towards...
"Try us, what do you mean?" Nemisa asked.
"It's me that she's referring to." the gruff purple-haired man spoke, raising up his hand as it sparked with electricity, "I've been working with the Order of Reyahm for a number of years now, so that I may reclaim that which was taken from me by that damned 'Sky Guardian'."
"..." Roc looked to the gruff man and narrowed his eyes, "I'll admit that was clever of you, I didn't think you'd have the chance to pull it off."
"What are they talking about, piou?" Nymnalo asked.
"He's the monster Roc and Aviel battled ten years ago..." Korume spoke pointing out at the man, "The storm dragon Geelorokhi!"
"What?!" everyone exclaimed.
"But how is that even possible?" Nymnalo asked, looking up to Roc, "You told our mystics ten years ago that you used the orb to destroy the Geelorokhi!"
Roc paused and looked away with a pained look in his eyes, confusing the Rito people.
"No, the truth is... that orb isn't used to destroy Geelorokhi, but merely to seal him and his power inside of it." Roc spoke.
"Indeed." Geelorokhi chuckled, looking over at the purple orb the monks were chanting around, "That orb was crafted hundreds of years ago by a foolish Rito sorcerer who arrogantly called himself the Thunderbird. He wanted to capture me and harness my power of lightning and storms, but he underestimated my might and the orb was lost for many centuries."
"So if you really are Geelorokhi, does this mean you're V's father?" Link asked raising an eyebrow.
"Heh... yes, though that isn't the name I intended for him." Geelorokhi spoke, "Tell them my son."
"...that's right, my name isn't V..." the dragon child spoke, looking right at Link, "I'm the son of Volvagia and the storm dragon Geelorokhi..."
"I'm the mighty fire dragon knight, Volga!"
Link's eyes widened at the mention of that name, 'So I was right, that's who he was this whole time!'
The dragon man glanced down to the young Volga, "Much like my son here I possess the ability to transform into a human like you all see before you. When Roc sealed me away within that orb, my mate Volvagia distracted him just long enough for me to separate my human half from my dragon half, so I may someday reclaim the orb containing my true body."
"He joined with the Order of Reyahm under a mutual agreement." Chaplain Iktiakh spoke, "We help him reclaim his body, and he takes his place as the God of Storms in our great new world."
"You got to be kidding me..." Link muttered, "They'd go that far?"
"They're truly a twisted cult." Korume spoke, looking at the corpse of the man they killed to use his blood for the ritual with a painful look in her eyes, "They'll stop at nothing to destroy and replace the gods of our world, even if it means taking the lives of their own, and making dealings with a evil dragon like him."
"That guy is the scary eight-headed dragon...? Then that explains how they knew about the purple orb and Grandpa Roc!" Aviel realized.
"Yes, these fools have been tunneling under the mountains in search of where Roc had buried himself and the orb in order get back Geelorokhi's true body. That's why the Migoui monsters attacked us at the foot of the mountain, they were all chased out of the caves by these fiends." Korume explained.
"Now quickly, destroy the Roc while he's still vulnerable!" Geelorokhi called out.
Link narrowed his eyes and brandished his sword, "Everyone, protect the Sky Guardian and the Rito!"
"Right!" the others said.
"Pecoli, just hang on, we're going to help you!" Aviel called out as she loaded up her crossbow.
"Aviel..." Pecoli spoke with small tears in her eyes as she watched the of them five of them stand off for battle against the cult.
The Rito were at a loss about what to do; they were baffled enough the false priestess and her friends were willing to help them all despite how they had treated her before.
Volga and Geelorokhi just continued to stand watching. Volga gulped a bit seeing his former friends all ready to fight against the Order of Reyahm.
Roc himself stared out at Aviel as she confronted her opponents. He was too weak to help them fight at that moment and was mentally praying to the Great Fairy Goddess Venus for the girl's safety.
Chaplain Iktiakh slowly brought up his arm and with a slight smirk, snapped his fingers, causing the Reyahm monks to charge forward into battle against Link and his friends, as they all ran out in different directions to fight them off.
Link ran at the monks who were working on performing the ritual, but then a strange wave of energy shot through the ground in front of him. Link came to a stop and turned to see Omaldak standing before him. He stood tall and wide like a giant wall. He glared down at Link with a stone-faced stare.
"Halt, I shall crush all who oppose the Order of Reyahm! I am the High Monk Omaldak, and I shall be your opponent!" the man said, grabbing his robe and pulling it off, revealing his huge, muscular body. The large man flexed his arms and formed a fighting stance, "I've trained in multiple arts and developed thousands of techniques, now allow me to demonstrate them all to you!"
"I don't have time for this." Link muttered, gripping his sword and shield, "Gotta make this quick."
"Raging Bull Crashes Through Barn Fence technique!" Omaldak shouted, charging at Link and swing out his hand. Link stepped out of the way as Omaldak rushed right past him and bashed his hand into a stone wall, managing to make a large hole in it.
"Woah, that guy's pretty tough." Link muttered.
"Great Frog Stomps on Lily Pad technique!" Omaldak shouted as he leaped into the air and came down at Link, forcing him to roll out of the way.
Link charged forward with his sword and swung it out, but Omaldak brought up a loose stone from the street and use it to block the slash, before smacking Link away with his hand.
"Gross Monkey Flings Fecal Matter technique!" Omaldak shouted, hurling more stones broken off the ground at Link.
"The hell kind of technique is that?!" Link exclaimed, while going on the defense and block off the stones with his shield as they came at him.
Link took his sword and dashed forward, dodging past more of the stones thrown at him, before he leaped into the air and brought down his sword, but Omaldak brought up his hands and slammed them on the sides of the sword, stopping him in midair.
"Huh?" Link exclaimed.
"Wading Crane Catches Trout technique!" Omaldak shouted, suddenly throwing Link across the street, the Hylian curled into a ball and rolled to a stop, going back into a sword fighting stance.
"Looks like this won't go very quick after all." Link muttered before going back into battle against him.
"Pecoli, I'm coming to help you!" Aviel shouted, attempting to run at the bird child to save her from the Reyahm monk holding her captive.
"Hold it there, girl!"
"Aviel watch out!" Pecoli shouted.
The young Gerudo turned up to see Jianya coming down at her wielding strange looking weapons in both hands. They were small bladed discs on the ends of long strings that she was twirling. Jianya swung one out at Aviel, forcing her to step back quickly and keep her distance.
"Kyahahaha... so you're the Sky Guardian priestess aren't you?" giggled the acrobatic woman, "I've been waiting to meet with you."
"You're one of those rye and ham people, right?" Aviel asked, "Who are you?"
"My name is Jianya, a member of the Order of Reyahm." she grinned widely, "I just had a few questions for you, priestess."
"I don't care about your questions, just keep away from Pecoli!" Aviel shouted, running forward.
Jianya narrowed her eyes and swung out the bladed disks. The young Gerudo attempted to dodge each swing, but one managed to bash her and knock her backwards to the ground.
"Yeouch!" Aviel shouted from the impact.
"Ah ah ah, you can't get too close when I have these!" Jianya spoke waving her finger. She spun one of the discs by it's string with one hand, before swinging it right at Aviel again.
"Then I won't let myself get close!" Aviel said dodging the swing. She jumped back to her feet and pulled out her crossbow, firing an arrow at Jianya. But the women placed her free hand to her chest, and just before the arrow could hit her, it stopped and flipped through the air before landing harmlessly to the ground.
"Huh? How did you do that?" Aviel asked, but her question got ignored.
Aviel dodged out of the way of Jianya slamming her discs down at her, then went to evading her swift kicks. She tried to fire another arrow, but Jianya flipped it into the air before quickly rushing at Aviel and slashing at her with a spinning disc.
"Ack!" Aviel shouted, dodging away again as Jianya kept swinging and kicking at her, "This is bad, I can't do anything with my arrows." she muttered to herself as she brought up her crossbow to block a kick, then swung it at Jianya, who stepped backwards to evade it. Aviel fired another arrow, but Jianya flipped it into the air by putting her hand to her chest again.
"I don't get it, just how are you doing that?" Aviel asked.
"If you must know, it's this." Jianya said, pulling out a necklace she was concealing under her dress. It had a strange green amulet attached to it, "This is the Amulet of Pacci, it allows me to stop and flip anything light enough into the air. It's one of the gifts I received for getting as high up within the Order as I am."
"So that's how you keep flipping my arrows..." Aviel spoke.
"Do you see now you can't win then? Good." Jianya grinned, "So why not be a good girl and tell me how these wings work."
"Huh? You mean the Roc's Wing?" Aviel asked in confusion.
Jianya flipped backwards and landed to the ground in a graceful poise,
"Yes, you see before I became part of the Reyahm Order, I was an orphan who was taken in by the ringmaster of a traveling circus. I worked hard to make him proud, and I became a famous acrobat known as the Great Hummingbird, and my performance brought in people from all over Hyrule." she said, then hung her head down, "Then one day the ringmaster grew ill and died, and his son took over the family business... but he was a fool who lacked business sense. He proceeded to run the circus into the ground... and I was cast out like garbage."
"So you were abandoned...?" Aviel spoke, feeling somewhat sympathetic towards the woman in that moment as she thought about her own parents.
Jianya paused as she glanced over and saw the sad look in Aviel's eyes, before shaking it off and continuing.
"To survive, I joined up with the Order, and they were nice enough to provide me with tools like this amulet and these blade disks. I want to get my hands on more tools like these so I can start a circus of my own, one that would make the kind man who watched over me proud." Jianya said looking up into the clouds, "These wings will be perfect for dazzling my audience, but I haven't been able to figure out how they work. Now tell me how they make you fly!"
"Look, I'm sorry, but I don't really know how they actually work... Grandpa Roc gave them to me when I was little and they just came naturally for me." Aviel spoke.
"Hmph... so that's how you're going to be about it...?" Jianya muttered. She took a glance over at Pecoli who was being held by a Reyahm monk. She flipped backwards into the air and took Pecoli from the monk, restraining her in her arms.
"Aviel!" shouted Pecoli reaching out for the Gerudo.
"Pecoli!" screamed out Aviel, "Please don't hurt her!"
"Don't worry, I will... if you just tell me the secret to these wings, kyahahaha!" Jianya laughed, holding one of her disc blades at Pecoli's head.
Aviel gulped, she wasn't lying when she said she didn't know exactly how the wings worked or why they didn't work for this woman. But now that she had Pecoli hostage she was at a loss of what to do...
Nemisa blocked a dagger by one monk with her steel band before kicking them away, then she did a roundhouse attack to take down two more of them. Some more monks attempted to surround her, but she brought up her fist to make them back off.
"Who else wants some?" Nemisa shouted out.
"Actually I'd quite like to see your ability for myself." spoke a voice, as Tonashi came right at her with with a karate chop.
Nemisa countered his attack with her leg, then swung her fist at him. Tonashi blocked it and swung his fist at her, forcing her to lean to the side to avoid it. She thrust forward with a swift kick, while Tonashi countered with a kick of his own.
"Your technique's pretty good." Nemisa admitted.
Tonashi tried another punch attack but Nemisa backflipped out of the way, kicking him across the face as she did. She charged at him for another attack as Tonashi recovered from the blow and spoke to her.
"As is yours madam."
But then Tonashi spread his wings and took to the air, Nemisa came to a halt and looked around for him, until the butler came up from behind and bashed her across the back with a flying kick.
"A pity you can't fly though." Tonashi said from the air as he came at her with more airborne attacks, forcing Nemisa to be put on the defensive.
Saria meanwhile had been busy fighting off the monks that tried to attack the Roc and the Rito. She smacked the monks away with her staff, then shot off large deku nuts which rolled across the ground like boulders and bashed into them.
One monk however kept his distance, and managed to chant a spell and shoot off a blast of fire, bursting through the deku nuts and impacting into Saria, sending her falling back close to the Rito.
"Are you okay, Ms. Saria?" Mayor Nymnalo asked desperately.
"Come on, we gotta do something!" a Rito spoke up, looking as if he was about to attack a monk.
"No, please just stay back!" Saria said getting up, "I don't want any of you getting hurt!"
In a way, this reminded Saria of her time in Kokiri Forest after she was given the Deku Staff, back when she was protecting the Kokiri from the evil plant monsters that Straw Kid was sending to attack them. The Kokiri had been too weak to do any real fighting, so she took it upon herself to protect them, and right now she needed to do the same for the Rito. Saria charged in and resumed her fight against the monks.
"We have to do something Mayor!" a Rito shouted, "That poor thing is fighting for us!"
"But she's right, you saw what they did to our guards..." another Rito muttered, "We'd just get in her way..."
"Then perhaps... the fact that we're all too weak to help is what's wrong." a third Rito spoke, "We depended so much on the Sky Guardian and Mr. Barrank to protect us from outsiders that we became too safe and secure for our own good..."
"...she's right." muttered one of the Rito who had been part of the mob, "The only reason we overwhelmed the priestess and her friends earlier was because they were trying not to hurt us..."
Mayor Nymnalo grimaced at that, knowing it was because he and the people had put so much faith into the Sky Guardian and Barrank for protection that he encouraged the people to remain safe rather then strengthen themselves.
Roc too paused at those words, gazing out at Saria battling the monks, then over to Aviel who was fighting Jianya to save Pecoli. He struggled to get up but just felt too weak. He felt completely helpless to do anything...
Korume meanwhile was locked into a confrontation with Chaplain Iktiakh, while Geelorokhi and Volga were watching. Korume twitched her fingers as ice emitted from them, before she conjured and swung her ice spears at Iktiakh, who used the Ether Medallion to create a protective barrier of wind and ice to blow her attacks away. She tried throwing a spear at him, but the wind just repelled it to the side.
"Your magic is impressive, but mere parlor tricks compared to this." Iktiakh chuckled holding up the Ether Medallion, "Once we find our chosen one of ice, we shall make them into a deity who will use the accursed goddess of law Nayru's own power against her."
"Loathsome scum... We Gerudo may not follow the ways of the three golden goddesses, but they're sacred to the people of Hyrule, and I won't condone you trying to destroy them." Korume said, firing more ice spears at Iktiakh, who dodged and blocked each attack.
Iktiakh then conjured large ice blocks and dropped them down at Korume, who quickly moved to evade each attack. He made a wave of ice spikes to shoot up from the ground, but Korume was able to jump out of the way of them as well.
"Those goddesses the Hylians worship are a falsehood. We've happened upon information that has told us the truth of them, and we know full well the golden three have no compassion for any of their lives." Iktiakh said, "Once the goddesses are destroyed by our hands, they all will awaken from their blind faith."
"And you think the Ether Medallion will be enough to challenge them?" Korume asked, flinging more ice spears at him as she contemplated just what he meant by his words about the 'truth'.
"No, that's not all. Just as Nayru created the Ether Medallion, there are more like it made by the earth goddess Din and the life goddess Farore, the medallions of Bombos and Quake respectively."
'Quake...?' thought Korume, recalling a strange feeling she had earlier back while she was held captive.
"We've already traced the whereabouts of Farore's Quake Medallion to be somewhere here in Dhaijialoft, and soon we'll harness that power to put towards our future goals." Iktiakh spoke.
"I will never allow that." Korume said, making new spears in her hands.
She then rushed at Iktiakh with her spears, who formed a defense by creating an ice shield. Korume slammed her spears into the shield. The two sides struggled a bit using their power, until the shield managed to shatter, shocking Iktiakh as he was sent flying backwards to the ground.
Just as Korume rushed at Iktiakh for another attack, a burst of flames went off in-between them, forcing the ice mystic to come to a halt. Landing down between Korume and Iktiakh was Volga, now with his dragon wings sticking out from his back while still in the form of a human child, his arms up to the elbows were like that of his dragon form with sharp claws at the end. He glared up at Korume with eerie green eyes.
"Little salamander..." Korume muttered, "So you've learned how to only transform part of your body... I take it your father taught you that power?"
"Uh huh..." Volga nodded, "Since you're being a threat to Mr. Iktiakh I have to stop you Ms. Korume."
"Listen, you don't have to do this. Believe me, I know what it feels like to think you have to hurt those you care about for what you believe is the right path..." Korume spoke, thinking back to the sacrificial ritual she and Kesuta had attempted to do back at the Spirit Temple before Link saved them.
"...no, you don't know what it's like..." Volga whispered, thinking back to the happy Rito family he saw last night when he ran away, "My mother abandoned me when I was young, I had to fend for myself for so long, and I hated feeling all alone. I got to see all these nice Rito people with their children, and it made me wonder what it felt like to have a family. Then my father showed up and let me join him, saying he could help make me stronger and have a family of my own to be with."
"V..." Korume whispered.
"I said my real name is Volga!" he shouted, running at Korume with his claws ignited with flames. His movement came to halt however, and he realized Korume had frozen his legs over with her ice, "Huh?"
"Don't allow that wench to win against you Volga." Geelorokhi said, "Strike her down!"
Korume slowly walked towards Volga with a dark, cold gaze in her eyes, as she lifted up her hand and started to generate ice together into it. Volga gulped, trying to go by his father's words and work up the nerve to breath fire out from his mouth at Korume. But the ice mystic then quickly took her creation and tossed it right at Volga...
And a snowball smacked him right in the face, leaving his face covered in slush, "Huh...?"
"Do you remember that little salamander?" Korume asked as she approached the stunned child, "When Aviel and everyone taught you what fun was?"
"I-I... fun is one thing, but family is another..." Volga stammered, averting his gaze by looking downwards, "Father said if I do this... then... I can finally have a place where I belong..."
"And do you really think the place where you belong is with these fiends who would hurt innocent people?" she gestured to the Rito. Volga looked over at the bird people, all cowering in fear of the Order as Korume spoke, "That's not the life for you."
Volga closed his eyes tightly to block off his guilty thoughts, before looking to Korume angerly, stammering out, "W-What do you even know about me...?"
Korume just slowly went up, knelt down, and hugged him. Volga was caught off guard by this, he could have probably found a way to attack her in that moment, but he couldn't bring himself to. Tears started to form in his eyes as she held him softly.
"I know enough that you're not that kind of person, little salamander." Korume whispered.
Volga found tears starting to fall down from his eyes as he cried into Korume's shoulder, hugging her back.
"I...I'm sorry Ms. Korume..." Volga muttered.
"I know. It's okay..." Korume whispered.
"Hmph, what a pathetic whelp." spoke up Geelorokhi with a sneer, "Now I see why Volvagia really abandoned you, it wasn't your scent like you claimed, it was because of how weak you are."
"Father...?" Volga asked, looking to him.
"You think I care that much about you, boy? I only needed you to free my orb from the ice that Roc imprisoned it in since the Order couldn't track down the Quake Medallion." chuckled Geelorokhi, "As far as I'm concerned you've outlived your usefulness."
Volga stood in shock at his own father's words, before looking to Korume who nodded. He then glared at Geeorokhi, his body started to surge up with flames, melting the ice that Korume had trapped his legs in before, as he stood alongside the ice mystic, "You jerk. You... you used me..."
"Using your own son like that, how unforgivable. I think I'll skewer that black heart of yours for this." Korume said to the dragonic human.
But Korume then felt a strange sensation, she wrapped her arms around Volga and jumped to the side, barely avoiding a barrage of ice spikes shooting up from the ground. She looked to see Iktiakh holding out the Ether Medallion.
"Your battle's with me, mystic." Iktiakh smirked, he brought his hand down and more icy spikes started shooting out from the ground towards Korume who stepped out of the way again.
Volga tried to counter Iktiakh's ice attacks with a fiery punch but the chaplain simply brought up a wall of ice to block his attack, before blowing him away with the wind-based power of the medallion.
"Ulp... my fire's not strong enough to fight that level of ice magic..." Volga spoke hanging his head downcast, "I guess father is right..."
"It's fine Volga, you support the others. I'll handle this cretin." Korume said, conjuring more ice spears to use to fight Iktiakh.
Volga stared at Korume as she turned to confront Iktiakh, he took another look over at Geelorokhi, before speaking sadly to the mystic, "Ms. Korume... I'm sorry, this is all my fault..."
"Never mind that little salamander, instead of apologizing, work to fix it." Korume stated.
Voga's eyes lit up at Korume's words, as he nodded and went off on his way to assist the others.
Korume went back into battle against Iktiakh, dodging the ice attacks he flung at her before countering with her spears. Iktiakh shot one large block at Korume, who countered by forming a shield of ice with an upwards slope design to it. The slope caused the block to slide upwards into the air, surprising the chaplain. Korume quickly flew up on her broom and smacked it downwards at Iktiakh, smashing into him.
"Argh!" Iktiakh shouted out flying back. He angerly glared up at Korume who was flying downwards at him with her spear.
"Enough of this, it's time to die, mystic." Iktiakh spoke, firing off a barrage of ice blocks at Korume.
"You first." Korume spoke. She flew through the barrage of ice blocks, taking a few bumps around the way but nothing to phase her, as she thrust her spear forward at the chaplain.
Instead of hitting Iktiakh directly though, the spear plunged right into the dead center of the Ether Medallion he was holding.
"Huh?" Iktiakh spoke in shock, as the medallion started to crack up, and crumble apart, "NO!"
"I figured as much, if that ostrich was using it for ten years straight it was bound to be a little weak from excessive use." Korume spoke with amusement as the ice shield Iktiakh was protected by disappeared. She flew right at Iktiakh and impacted into him with her ice spear, sending him flying back and crashing to the ground one final time.
"Grk... damn mystic... how does she have that power...?" Iktiakh scowled, forcing himself up. He saw Korume flying at him again, so he brought his fingers up into an odd gesture, moving them around until a smoke cloud burst out. When the smoke cleared away, he was already gone.
"What...?" Korume spoke, looking around for the chaplain, "That technique, could that have been...?"
Nemisa was locked into combat against Tonashi. The Rito butler flew through the air, swooping down to come at Nemisa with a barrage of punches and kicks, as she did her best to evade or counter them. Tonashi swung out a karate chop, but Nemisa blocked it with her steel wrist band, surprising the butler.
"You wear steel bands to protect yourself? Quite clever." Tonashi observed, "But they also look quite worn."
"I get a lot of usage out of them." Nemisa explained, doing a roundhouse kick to knock Tonashi away. The bird recovered and flew straight at Nemisa. She prepared to counter it, but then he suddenly flew left and impacted into her from the side with his sharp beak.
"Ack!" Nemisa cringed from the blow as she spun around and deflected another attack from behind.
"But either way I shall not give you accessibility to impede on our organization's plan!" Tonashi stated, attempting to smack her with a swift karate chop.
"I don't get it, why are you working with that cult?" Nemisa asked, dodging his attack and throwing a punch at him, "Why would you become a traitor to your own people?"
"Because our people worship a fairy goddess who cares nothing for them!" Tonashi shouted, flying circles around Nemisa to keep her guessing when he'd strike, "She put the responsibility on us to watch over the Great Fairy of Balance, but would ignore us in our time of need!"
"Just what are you talking about?" Nemisa asked.
Tonashi swooped down and kicked at Nemisa, who backflipped away, then the two came at each other with forward punches as the butler spoke to her,
"My father was of Sheikah blood, who taught me martial arts, and my mother was a priestess who helped keep watch over the Great Fairy. My mother put so much faith into the day the Great Fairy would be awakened so that her families' lives would prosper..."
Tonashi blocked an attack and tried to kick Nemisa, but she jumped back and leaped into the air to attack with a flying kick. Tonashi was struck, but flew right at her from behind with another impact with his beak, knocking her to the ground.
"Then one day, our father was stricken down with an fatal illness. My mother prayed desperately to the Fairy Goddess to save him, but regardless of that he died slowly and painfully, I still remember how much he suffered to this day. As for Mother, it changed her entire perspective on the life she lived as a priestess, and her faith in the goddess. She gave up on her job, and despite her efforts to make ends meet for me and Pecoli, she gave up on that as well and took her own life."
"That's horrible..." Nemisa muttered, now having more an understanding of why Pecoli was so attached to Aviel as they both grew up without parents.
Tonashi swooped down at Nemisa who dodged at the last second. Nemisa attempted to counter with a kick, but the butler evaded it. The two then went at each other with a fury of punches and kicks.
"That's when I realized the life we lived here in the village was nothing but a farce. These gods that rule over us are uncaring and cruel, and treat us as mere maggots. I was forced to work under that idiot Barrank to make life better for my sister, and I accepted it for her sake, no matter how badly he treated us."
"Big bro..." Pecoli whispered, looking over at Tonashi as she overheard him speak out to Nemisa.
"Then the Reyahm Order approached me with the offer of joining them, with the promise that we could use the Great Fairy's power to destroy that loathsome Venus." Tonashi said, "I'm doing all of this to avenge my parents who once believed so much in those terrible beings and put me and my sister through so much pain!"
"Revenge, huh...?" Nemisa muttered, looking up to Tonashi, "You really are a fool."
"Hmph, how dare you personify me like that!" Tonashi shouted, lunging out at Nemisa, but she countered with kicks and punches.
"Just trust me when I say revenge won't make you happy." Nemisa said, blocking a kick with her wrist band. As the two continued to fight and talk, she noticed his attacks were starting to get more reckless.
"Don't address to me that my actions are in the wrong when you don't know what kind of personal hell I've been through!" Tonashi shouted, he swung his leg to kick at Nemisa, but she easily dodged it, grabbed his leg and hurled him to the ground, "Graack!"
"I know more then you think. I was once a slave, and was controlled by cruel men who tortured and played with my heart, even taking the life of someone I cared about." Nemisa spoke thinking of her slave friend Erien, "I wanted nothing more then revenge against them and all men for it."
Tonashi flew forward and swung at Nemisa, who dodged out of the way and stuck him in the side.
"It took the kind words of my fiance Link to help me understand what was important, and for me to finally break out of my shell." Nemisa said, "I don't fight for vengeance, but to help the innocent like he does."
"Hmph, you can't persuade me with those words." Tonashi said, before he spread his wings out and shot down at Nemisa, going into a fast spinning drill motion, throwing Nemisa off as he bashed into her, sending her flying back and skidding across the ground.
"Gack!" Nemisa shouted out, she jumped back up onto her feet as Tonashi flew overhead.
Nemisa took a deep breath and closed her eyes, thinking to herself in that moment of some music. The Melody of Sky that Aviel had been taught to sing, as well as the dance that went with it. She started moving her body slowly as Tonashi came at her. He swung out a punch, but she dodged it with her flowing dance motions. He swung around with another punch, but she dodged again and delivered a punch into his side, before kicking him across the face.
"What? Cease your movements!" Tonashi said, swiping at her with a karate chop, but she sidestepped and spun around, kicking him across the face. He tried a sweeping kick but she jumped up and kicked him in the chin instead.
The Rito was caught off guard by this battle style and movement, he then recognized the dance from what the priestess Aviel performed at the Great Fairy's ceremony. It seemed this woman had mastered the dance herself that she could even use it in battle. But seeing that dance, the one used for the sake of the Fairy Goddess, was making him more aggravated than before.
"Kraaah!" the Rito charged at Nemisa, swinging his fists at her with a left hook and right jab.
Just Nemisa predicted, Tonashi's reckless actions were making him fight with less focus, so she ducked and dodged both attacks before punching him across the face. The rito scowled in anger and started swinging everything he had at her, but his movements were easier to predict now, so she quickly and nimbly dodged each swing, before punching him in the stomach. Nemisa started pummeling him backwards before delivering a powerful uppercut to him, leaving him staggering around in a daze. Nemisa then ended it by dancing towards him and delivering a rolling kick, knocking Tonashi down to the ground on his face.
"Impossible... how did she defeat me...?" Tonashi groaned, he was about to force himself to get back up and escape, but Nemisa thrust a knee down onto his back and held him around the neck with her arm.
"Not so fast bird." Nemisa said.
"Grk," Tonashi groaned, gripping at her arm to try and pull her off him, but was too weak to do so, "Go on, what are you waiting for? Just break my neck and get it over with! As of now I've failed my sister!"
"You didn't fail Pecoli just now..." Nemisa spoke, "You failed her when you joined with the Order of Reyahm."
Nemisa used the position she had Tonashi in to turn his head and make him see Pecoli was at that point being held captive by Jianya and being used as a human shield, while Aviel was trying desperately to save her from the woman. Tonashi's eyes widened at how the woman was using his sister like that, and he didn't even notice.
"Pecoli!" Tonashi shouted out, trying to get Nemisa off of him before cringing from the pain of the battle.
"You were so blind to your revenge, that you couldn't see what truly mattered." Nemisa spoke.
Tonashi paused in shock at Nemisa's words, and hung his head down in defeat. Nemisa then brought back her fist and gave Tonashi one last punch to knock him outcold onto the ground.
"Now, leave this battle to us." Nemisa said standing up and snapping her fingers. She was about to assist Aviel, but some more monks came at her with daggers, so she went into a martial arts poise to fight them off.
"Hungry Tiger Mauls Graceful Deer technique!"
Omaldak lunged at Link with both his large hands to grab him, but Link backflipped away from the man. He pulled out his Fairy Bow and shot the monk with some arrows. It didn't have much affect on him though, he simply yanked the arrows out, not even seeming to the mind the pain of the wounds.
"This guy's unbelievable." Link muttered to himself sweatdropping. He sprinted forward at Omaldak who brought back both his arms.
"Beach Crab Pinches Tourist's Toe technique!" Omaldak shouted, swinging hand hands forward to crush Link
Before he could get crushed between the monk's hands though, the Hylian jumped up at the last second, landing on the monk's hands, before punching him in the face with his shield. He then performed a powerful spin attack to send Omaldak flying backwards.
"Graaah!" shouted Omaldak. He gasped out as he looked to Link, seeing he wasn't worse for wear at all, 'The power this boy possesses... I suppose this is only fitting since he's the one Master Iktiakh talked about before...'
Omaldak rushed at Link with his fists, shouting "Mighty Gorilla Attacks Traveling Luggage technique!"
The monk punched his fist into Link's shield, but the Hylian held his ground. As they fought against each other, Link contemplated his options in that moment, thinking about the time he was fighting the Rito mob to protect Aviel. While he was in a state of anger and trying to fight off the urges from before, he had summoned a strange power that he didn't even know he had before...
'Just what was that anyway...?' Link thought to himself, 'It felt like a sensation from my...'
Omaldak pushed Link back before charging forward and bashing into his chest. It was then in that very moment Link felt a strange reaction, and a powerful force shook up the earth around them, stunning the muscular monk a bit and making him stagger back in surprise.
"Wha- just what was that, boy?" Omaldak asked, trying to regain his footing.
"That's a good question..." Link spoke as he shook off the impact himself.
Link looked down to see something had fallen off his person when Omaldak hit him. It was the bronze clothing buckle with the strange symbol that Nemisa won for him back at the festival the other day. He recalled earlier that day when he fought against the Rito mob while trying to protect Aviel, he had this buckle on him at that time as well. He picked it up and looked at the design embedded on it.
"That's... how did you find the Quake Medallion?!" shouted Omaldak, "Our people have been searching this land everywhere for it!"
"My girlfriend won it in a grab bag contest." Link simply answered, looking back down at it.
"That's rather sweet of her. Though I'm afraid I'll be taking it back in the name of the Order of Reyahm. I'll apologize to her afterwards." Omaldak said before charging at Link, "Hungry Rat Takes Cheese technique!"
"I wonder if I could use this..." Link muttered as he looked to the monk charging at him. Link brought up his arm, harnessing the strange power of the buckle in his hand, and then slammed it onto the ground, giving off a powerful shockwave that shook up the ground and sent Omaldak flying.
"Graaah!" shouted Omaldak, impacting into the ground, "He mastered the medallion's power already?"
Link gasped out from the sensation of using the Quake Medallion, "Whew, this is really useful, but it takes a lot out of me to use... I better be careful about overusing it."
He pocketed the Quake Medallion and held his fighting stance, ready for the monk's next attack. Omaldak came at him with another attack, but then a small figure leaped down between the two, his landing causing a small burst of fire around him. It was Volga, standing with his back to Link.
"Volga? What are you doing?" Link asked, recalling just a little while ago he was on the side of the Order of Reyahm.
"Mr. Link, you go stop my father, I'll deal with these big guy." Volga said with his hands turned into dragon claws ignited with fire.
Link caught on and smiled, "Heh, I knew we could trust you Volga. Thanks!" then went running off.
Before Link could even come close to approaching the ritual site though, a large bolt of lightning came down at him and he backflipped away just in time. He looked to see the gruff purple-haired man now known as Geelorokhi standing before him.
"Greheheheh, I've waited far too long for this day. I won't allow you to interfere, boy." Geelorokhi grinned.
Link narrowed his eyes, he didn't know much about Geelorokhi aside from what Aviel had told him before from her memories, but he knew the man before him was a terrible monster that reminded him far too much of the evil that was Ganondorf, and he had to be stopped.
"Bring it then," Link said swinging out his sword, prepared for battle.
"If you insist."
Geelorokhi held up his hand as a bolt of lightning came down from the sky and he caught it. The lightning started to turn rigid and stiff, before it took on the form of a long golden spear with a two pronged tip. He spun it in his hand before pointing it at Link.
"Have at you, young lad." Geelorokhi spoke.
"Woah, father can create spears like that too?" Volga asked, looking at the lightning spear Geelorokhi made, then over to Korume who had been fighting Chaplain Iktiakh with her ice spears. He took that moment to think about something, but was sapped out of it by a punch flying at him, forcing him to step back from his opponent.
"So you betray us then young dragon?" Omaldak asked Volga, "Then prepare to be punished with every one of my thousands of techniques!"
"I'll take you on then." Volga said, flicking his claw.
The two came at each other, Volga swung out his claws ignited with fire, while Omaldak countered with his fists. The two impacted but Volga was the one sent flying. Volga stopped himself in midair with his wings and spat out fireballs at the monk, but Omaldak protected himself by pulling stones from the street and hurling them at Volga.
"Gross Monkey Flings Fecal Matter Again technique!" Omaldak shouted.
Meanwhile an older Rito couple were going by, trying to sneak away from the battles going on. As they did though, one stone hurled by Omaldak mistakenly flew right at them.
"Ack, look out!" shouted Omaldak in a panic.
But before the stone could hit the couple, Volga lunged out in his dragon form and headbutted the stone away, surprising the couple. The dragon leered it's eyes down at them as they shivered in fear.
"You bird folks okay?" Volga asked them, "Try to get out of here and let me handle this!"
"Wha-?!" one of the Rito muttered in shock.
"You heard him, let's get!" Crissile said, coming up and lifting up the two elderly Rito in her arms to carry them off, only to get blocked off by the raging lightning storm around them, "Oh, feathers... I suppose we'll just have to put our faith in the little priestess and her friends."
Volga then turned back to Omaldak, who had his arms folded as he looked carefully at the dragon.
"That was quite noble of you little son of Geelorokhi." Omaldak said, "You may be a traitor to us, but you're far stronger then your father thinks you are."
"...uh, thanks...?" Volga said.
"Regardless though, I'll crush you with my strength!" Omaldak flexed his muscles, "Wiley Mongoose Strikes Snake technique!" he then charged at Volga. The dragon came at the man with a headbutt but the monk quickly sidestepped and grabbed the dragon by his neck before slamming him into the ground.
'Grk! This guy's really tough!' Volga thought to himself, astonished that a single human could knock him to the ground, he attempted to breathe fire out from his mouth at Omaldak, but he was choked around the neck.
But before Omaldak could deliver a punch to his face, he saw Volga seemed to shrink down in his grip and slip out from his hand, surprising the monk. Volga stepped back now in the form of his child self again. He delivered a flaming punch to Omaldak, but it didn't phase him too much.
"Uh oh." Volga said, he breathed fire out from his mouth, but Omaldak charged through the flames and shoulder bashed the dragon away. Volga changed back into his dragon form and roared out, whipping his tail and bashing it into Omaldak and sending him flying backwards.
The monk got up and narrowed his eyes, wiping blood from his mouth, as he reached out and grabbed a stone pillar from a nearby shrine. Summoning all his strength, he started to swing it around him, until it bashed right into Volga.
"Beaver Builds Log Dam technique!" Omaldak shouted as he bashed Volga around with the pillar.
"This is bad, I need to try something new..." Volga thought. It was then in that moment he recalled the spears made by Geelorokhi and Korume, "I wonder... if you can make a spear with things like lightning and ice, then..."
"Now perish little dragon!" Omaldak said swinging out the pillar again for another impact.
But then Volga changed back into a human and ducked down to avoid the swing, as he started to generate a great amount of fire in his hand. The fire started to take on a long form not unlike a pole. It took on metal-like properties, had a single pointed tip at the end, with four prongs just below it not too different from a dragon's claw. He quickly swung up the weapon and bashed Omaldak across his body with it, leaving a streak of flames as he did.
"Graaaah!" shouted Omaldak, stepping back and seeing Volga was now wielding a long two-handed spear.
"Now we'll end this!" Volga said, spinning his spear in his hands and running out at Omaldak.
"Yes, it's time for my Animal Doctor Performs Euthanasia technique!" Omaldak shouted weilding his stone pillar and running forward. The monk swung the piller upwards and smashed it to the ground where Volga had stood. The monk let out a sigh, beliving he had finally finsihed him.
But then the stone pillar cracked, and bursting out from the stone was Volga with his spear. Before Omaldak even could do anything else, Volga gave him a devistating slash and landed to the ground, and then charging forward and impacting into the monk with a flaming shoulder bash.
"Graaaah!" the monk's eyes turned a blank white, shouting out in pain before collasping to the ground.
"Whew..." Volga sighed out, putting away his spear and collapsing to the ground, "I did it..."
"You truly are a strong one, young dragon..." Omaldak muttered beofre falling into unconciousness.
"He... did it..." gasped a Rito, "That dragon boy saved us!"
Some of the Rito ran over and congratulated Volga or his success, even seeing what they could do to tend to his injuries.
Meanwhile Aviel stood before the acrobat Jianya, who was sporting a sinister smile as she held Pecoli in her arms. The Gerudo tried aiming her crossbow at Jianya's shoulder to make her release Pecoli but the acrobat was using the little bird as a shield, with one of her blade disks pointing at her head for extra insurance, forcing Aviel to pull back.
"You big coward..." Aviel said angerly, "Let go of Pecoli now!"
"Kyahahaha... you shouldn't be trying to order me around, as her life is in my hands." Jianya spoke wickedly, "Now I'll ask you again, tell me how these wings work, or my group's having roast bird tonight..."
Aviel stood nervously, she wasn't sure what to do against such a dangerous person like Jianya. The acrobat could easily counter her arrows with that weird flipping cane, and having Pecoli at her mercy didn't make this any easier. It's not like she could just tell Jianya how the wings worked either, as not even she was certain why they didn't work for her. She took a look over at her Grandpa Roc who was resting from his extended period of guarding the Geelorokhi's orb, as some Rito were trying to help tend to him, while Link and the others were fighting opponents of their own. She was at a loss of what to do for Pecoli...
"Aviel!" shouted out Pecoli, getting Aviel's attention, "Please get away from her! Don't worry about me!"
Aviel just stared out at Pecoli, who despite her brave words had a look of absolute terror in her eyes as Jianya held her so tightly, with the blade disk inches from her head.
"No... I'm not running away..." Aviel spoke, she brought up her crossbow and aimed it at Jianya, "I'm going to protect you Pecoli, just like I promised!"
"Aviel..." Pecolo spoke softly as she saw the determined look in Aviel's eyes.
Jianya paused, the words that Aviel shouted echoed through her mind, as she thought of herself as a young lost child, and a friendly older man with a white mustache happily reaching out to her. She closed her eyes tightly as tears threatened to fall from them.
"Y-You're such a little fool..." Jianya said shaking her head, "You can't do anything to protect her... just like I couldn't do anything to protect..." she seemed to trail off as she spoke, but then she looked up at Aviel fiercely, "Just give up already or I'll kill her!"
Aviel paused, looking carefully at Jianya as she held Pecoli, trying to figure out a place to attack without the risk of causing harm to Pecoli. Her gaze went upwards, and she saw something that gave her an idea. Instead of shooting right at Jianya, she aimed her crossbow upwards and fired it off, confusing her opponent.
"Huh? What was that abou-" Jianya was cut off in her question by a lantern hanging off a string from high above came down and bashed her on the head, "GACK!"
With Jianya stunned by the impact, Pecoli escaped and ran over into Aviel's waiting arms.
"Pecoli, are you okay?" Aviel spoke.
"Yes I am Aviel!" Pecoli said, looking up at her with small tears in her eyes, "Thank you so much!"
"Grrr, you little..." Jianya scowled, rubbing at the large round bump on her head, "Forget the wings, I'll just finish you both then!" she stated as she swung her discs at Aviel again.
"Pecoli, let me deal with her." Aviel said. Pecoli nodded and kept her distance.
Jianya swung out her discs at Aviel, who stepped and dodged around each swing as they came at her. She flipped through the air to avoid one disc, then fired off more arrows at Jianya. Her opponent however used her amulet to flip the arrows and make them land to the ground.
"No good, she just keeps stopping my arrows..." Aviel muttered, before realizing something, "Wait... she stops my arrows!"
Jianya lunged at her with a kick, but with keen eyes, Aviel quickly ducked under the kick and knocked her back with a blunt impact of her crossbow. Aviel then leaped backwards, armed her crossbow and fired off a barrage of arrows at Jianya.
"Kyahahaha, too predictable!" Jianya laughed seeing the arrows coming right at her, as she used the Amulet of Pacci, causing them to all to stop and flip into the air before landing to the ground.
"You see little girl?" Jianya spoke out as she stood among the arrows, "Those were nothing for me for to handle!"
"Hee hee, you fell for it!" Aviel said grinning.
"Huh?"
Jianya then realized the arrows that were laying around her all had Bomblings attached to them, they were the Bomb Arrows that Aviel learned to make by Impa. Jianya gulped a bit, just as the bomb arrows all exploded in unison.
"Kyyaaa!" screamed out Jianya as she was launched high into the air before impacting to the ground. When the smoke cleared, the acrobat was laying back with her eyes a blank white, sporting a slap-happy look on her face and covered in burn marks.
"And stay down!" Aviel said, before she turned to her friend, "Hey, you okay Pecoli?"
"Aviel, you jerk! You lied to me!" Pecoli scolded her.
Aviel frowned and shook her head, "I'm sorry Pecoli, the truth is I'm really not the priestess, and I shouldn't have kept it a secret from you and everyone..."
"Not that, I mean the explosives! You said you didn't have any special powers like that! You were holding out on me!" Pecoli said in frustration, lightly batting her on the arm, but smiled brightly, "Anyway. I don't care if you're the priestess or not, you protected me just like you said you would!"
"Yeah... that's right, I did huh?" Aviel grinned.
Aviel then remembered something, she got up and ran over to Jianya, staring down at the woman.
Jianya's eyes focused a bit as she weakly looked up at Aviel, wondering if she was going to kill her, she thought to herself, 'It's just as well... I've failed... and it'll only be a matter of time before...'
But instead Aviel just excused herself before she removed the Roc's Wings from Jianya's arms, making sure to be slow and careful so as not to cause her anymore pain from her injuries, which surprised the acrobat woman.
"There, now I feel just right again." Aviel said with the wings on, she brought up her arms and unfurled her wings, showing off the majestic red and yellow wingspan, her slightly longer feather-like hair, her tail feathers that helped her fly faster, and her legs which were now skinny and bird-like in appearance with strong talons instead of feet.
"How... strange..." Jianya whispered softly, looking to Aviel as she and Pecoli were celebrating their victory. Seeing the two like they were made her recall a faint memory, just before she fell unconscious.
"Amazing..." Roc muttered, having watched the whole fight himself. He wished he could have done something to help Aviel, but his body was still too weak from his extended time keeping Geelorokhi's body trapped.
But seeing what she had done just now, it was clear she had grown so much, and she looked amazing with the power he had given her that day.
As that was going on, Link was battling it out against the dragon man Geelorokhi,
Geelorokhi swing his lightning spear at Link, who backflipped away from it before coming forward with a swing of his sword. The dragon man blocked off each swing with his spear, then attempted to fire off a beam of lighting at Link, who sidestepped out of the way, then thrust forward his shield and bashed Geelorokhi across the face with it. The dragon man snarled and blasted Link back immediately with his lightning.
Link then pulled out his Fairy's Bow and fired off some arrows at Geelorokhi, who retaliated by spinning his spear out in front of him to knock away the arrows, but when he came to a stop he saw Link run right at him and slash him across his body.
"Graah!" Geelorokhi shouted backing off a bit, before bringing up his spear and slamming it into the ground, releasing a powerful discharge that blasted Link backwards. Geelorokhi rushed at Link with his spear and managed to stab at him with it and electrocute him as well.
"Eeeerraah!" Link shouted out, shaking off the voltage before charging forward again. Geelorokhi prepared himself for a full frontal strike, but this time Link quickly ducked down and rolled to the side as Geelorokhi swiped his spear. Link then uncurled and swung up his sword, slashing it across the man's chest.
"Graaahh, you damn brat!" Geelorokhi shouted, his spear charged up with electricity as he swiped it left and right, releasing some sparks of electricity at Link.
Link leaped out of the way of the sparks as they came at him and thrust his sword forward to slash the man back. Geelorokhi brought up his spear and caught his sword in the double pronged tips. The dragon man smirked as electricity shot through the sword and electrocuted the young king. Link shouted out in the pain before yanking the sword out from Geelorokhi's weapon.
"Greeheheheh, little fool. Metal reacts dangerously to electricity." Geelorokhi spoke, "And if you think this power is impressive just wait until I become one with my true body again, then I'll be nearly invincible."
"Heh... only just 'nearly' invincible? Than this will be easier then I thought." Link said forcing a smile.
"...cheeky brat." Geelorokhi snarled, as he came at Link with his spear. The two clashed back and forth with their weapons for a while, before Geelorokhi brought back and attempted to thrust his spear at Link multiple times. The young king quickly sidestepped each jab until one came right him, so he brought up his shield to block it. Geelorokhi tried to electrocute Link again through the shield's metal, but found it wasn't working.
"That shield..." muttered Geelorokhi as he looked at the multi-limbed woman decorating it, "That's the Shield of Hotaig, an ancient tool of the Gerudo people... just who are you boy?"
"You're speaking to their ruler. I'm Link, King of the Gerudo. Hotaig granted me this shield with her divine blessing." Link then shouted, "And as of now, the town of Dhaijialoft is under Gerudo protection, I won't let you harm any of the Rito or the Great Fairy of Balance either!"
Mayor Nymnalo, along with the Rito who were watching the battle were all astonished by this news of Link's identity.
"That man is the Gerudo King?" a Rito asked.
"But I thought their king was a demon of darkness..." muttered another.
"Honestly I don't know what to believe anymore..." groaned a Rito.
"Yes... despite all we've put him and Ms. Aviel through, they still want to protect us..." Nymnalo spoke softly as he looked over to Saria fighting off and taking down the last of the lesser monks.
'Hm, the Gerudo King? Last I was told, that Dragmire man was the king...' Geelorokhi thought to himself, 'Could it be this boy was the one who usurped him from his throne while I was out working with the Order...? How interesting...'
Geelorokhi forced his spear down to try and knock Link to the ground, while Link was using all his strength to hold his position. A few stray sparks of electricity managed to zap Link as he did, but he endured it and held on. He rose up his hand, gripping the Quake Medallion buckle, and slammed it to the ground, causing a seismic shockwave that disrupted Geelorokhi's balance, allowing Link to repel him away. Link then swung back and unleashed a spin attack, slashing Geelorokhi across his body.
Link charged in for another attack, but a few lightning bolts came down in front of him to block him off. Geelorokhi recovered from the attack and started approaching him with absolute anger in his eyes. Link shot forward and the two went right back into battle. Geelorokhi attacked Link with with mighty swings of his spear, but Link nimbly dodged each swipe and countered with slashes of his sword. The two bounced their attacks off of each other for a while, getting in a few slashes and stabs on the other in the process.
"Go King Link, piou!" cheered Mayor Nymnalo, along with a great number of the Rito bystanders.
"Eraaaahh!" Link shouted out with a war cry.
Almost as if their cheers encouraged Link on, the young king swung out his sword and managed to knock Geelorokhi's spear back a bit, forcing the dragon to go on the defensive. As powerful as Geelorokhi was, he had been in his human form for many years, and being separated from his true body was making him tire out, especially with all the power he was putting into fighting the lad. It was clear even to him that Link's strength was getting to be far too much for him to handle. Link drove back the spear with his shield and slashed at Geelorokhi again with his sword.
"Damnit... I can't lose... to this brat..." Geelorokhi groaned out, clutching his chest.
Link charged forward and leaped into the air, bringing down his sword for another blow. Geelorokhi tried to defend himself with his spear, charging it up with electricity, but Link brought down his blade and slammed down on it anyway. Electricity shot out and zapped Link in the process, but he didn't allow it to throw off his attack. The two weapons clashed together, until Link shouted out and slashed through the spear, cutting it in half. Geelorokhi's eyes widened as Link then brought back his sword and performed a powerful spin attack, slashing across the dragon man brutally and knocking him to the ground.
"Grrrr... no... this can't be happening..." Geelorokhi growled, trying to get up, "I'm getting... too... weak..."
Link charged at Geelorokhi to finish him off, but the dragon man brought up his hand and used what little was left of his lightning energy to blast Link and stun him, giving him a chance to get up and stagger over to the ritual circle.
"That orb..." gasped Geelorokhi weakly to the monks performing the ritual, "Give it to me now!"
Chpalain Iktiakh, who had managed to escape from Korume and appear at the ritual site to aide them in the process, looked to the dragon man running up to them, "Not just yet Lord Geelorokhi, the ritual has not been completed!"
The dragon man hesitated, and turned to see Link charging right him again. Some monks tried to intervene against him with their daggers, but Link stunned them with the Quake Medallion before he cut them all down with his sword.
"Like I care about that!" shouted Geelorokhi, grabbing one of the monks and tossing him at Link to momentarily distract him, then grabbing a hold of the orb.
Massive amounts of lighting started shooting out from the orb, repelling Link and the Reyahm monks back before they could do anything to stop him. Chaplain Iktiakh tried to intervene, but he was electrocuted and blasted backwards to the ground.
"Grk, that fool... just when we were going to..." Chaplain Iktiakh muttered, his injuries from fighting Korume were too much for him as he collapsed outcold.
"Damnit, we were too late!" Nemisa shouted, running up to join Link, as well as Aviel, Saria, Korume and Volga who had all succeeded in their battles. They tried to get to the dragon man to stop him but the powerful lightning was too dangerous for them to get close at all. Not even Korume's ice or Volga's flames could penetrate it.
"GREEHEHEHEH!" laughed Geelorokhi as he absorbed the power that was contained within the orb, "MY TRUE FORM LIVES AGAIN!'"
With that a powerful shockwave of lightning released from the orb, the storm clouds above crashed and banged loudly. Aviel cringed from the mighty force and hid her face into Link's chest as he held her protectively. They all looked up at Geelorokhi transforming before them.
When the bright energy faded, before them all was an enormous purple and black scaled dragon with eight hideous heads. Each of the eight heads all roared out in unison as lightning came down around it.
"I AM GEELOROKHI, THE MIGHTY DRAGON OF STORMS!"
"Oh no..." Aviel spoke, as terrible memories of the monster came flooding right back to her.
"Well this just went from bad to worse." Link spoke.
Well... they got pretty close at least.
Next time, it's the final battle against the Geelorokhi, but how can they win where the legendary Sky Guardian Roc couldn't? Find out next chapter!
Past readers will probably see this chapter got the most significant amount of changes besides just the condensing of the chapters. I have my reasons for all this, but I have to say I feel a lot better about the story as it came out this way. Thank you for bearing with me through all this.
