A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 Chapter 2

Not knowing if this creature was a friend or foe Bailey resorts to doing what comes naturally to her.

Bailey leaps forward to tackle this intruder when Harry stops her by wrapping his arms around her neck to prevent her from making the jump.

"No, Bailey," said Harry.

Bailey woofed, squirming in his hold, a growl building in her throat.

Wrapping a hand over her muzzle, Harry repeats "No."

Bailey whines, grudgingly obeying the command as Harry lets her go.

In her cage Hedwig ruffles her feathers and returns to her nap, unbothered and disinterested.

On the bed the creature with the big eyes stares at them, posture rigid at Bailey's show of aggression. It's a good thing Harry stopped Bailey's assault when he did. Down below they can very clearly hear the Dursleys greeting their dinner guests. They would've heard that scuffle from a mile off no question and Harry would've been in a world of trouble for it.

Returning the peculiar creature's gaze, nervously, Harry said "Er-hello. Sorry about my dog. She's very protective of me."

Wringing its fingers over what appears to be an old pillowcase clothing it, slipping off the bed and bowing low, the creature said "Harry Potter. So long has Dobby wanted to meet you, sir…Such an honor it is."

Bailey cocks her head at the being's high-pitched voice, ears perking up on her head.

Not really knowing how to properly respond as he cautiously approaches, Harry said "Thank you. Who are you?"

"Dobby, sir. Dobby the house-elf," said Dobby.

"Oh really? I don't want to be rude or anything, but this isn't a great time for me to have a house-elf in my bedroom. Not that I'm not pleased to see you," said Harry quickly, in response to Dobby's dejected slump of the head. "But is there any particular reason you're here?"

Earnestly, Dobby said "Oh, yes, sir. Dobby has come to tell you, sir…it is difficult, sir…Dobby wonders where to begin."

Gesturing at the bed invitingly, politely, Harry said "Sit down."

Much to Bailey's bafflement the house elf erupts into an onslaught of very noisy tears. Apparently that was the wrong thing to say in this situation although it was well received in this case. Turns out it is quite uncommon for a house-elf to be on the reception of such common courtesy in any form. Speaking through his tears Dobby explains that he's never been treated as someone's equal before. By the time he was done, Dobby had fixated an expression of watery adoration at Harry. House-elves are not accustomed to being treated so nicely.

The whole time Dobby was getting worked up Bailey had her paws pressed over her ears in a vain attempt to muffle the noise. Honestly they're lucky that no one downstairs had heard that.

In an attempt to cheer Dobby up and perhaps make him a tad more comfortable in this change of environment, Harry casually says he must not have met any decent wizards.

That sets Dobby off on another pitiful tirade, but this time he's deliberately hurting himself by banging his head profusely on the window. This time around the ruckus was more than enough to awaken Hedwig, disturbing her for the remainder of her nap.

Dobby was reprimanding himself for even thinking ill of his masters and even came close to talking badly about them.

Despite her dislike toward this little house-elf her nurturing side does come out. Going over to Dobby, she likes him on the head where he now has a bruise forming the moment Harry pulls him away from there. The display disgusts them both specifically when Dobby says that he'll have to punish himself later for coming here by shutting his ears in the oven.

The Dursleys are cruel and abhorrent but even they never chose to do something like that. Stuff like this makes the Dursleys somehow sound mild and collected in comparison.

Finally Dobby reaches the actual reason why he's actually here at Privet Drive, a most urgent matter about a secret plot to bring down Hogwarts in the most terrible way thinkable. Dobby has known about it for months, but because of fear aimed at the family he serves, he's kept quiet about it. Only now with the summer rapidly coming to a close Dobby couldn't take it anymore. He refuses to see the famous Harry Potter that has given so many house elves such hope to be put into harm's way. Not with what such selfish and heinous people have in store.

Harry presses for answers and this is where the magic binding a house to their masters will kick in. Leaving Dobby unable to reveal or go into deep detail without severely hurting himself, simply pleading with Harry to not return to Hogwarts at all this year.

Unfortunately, the noise Dobby emits draws attention from downstairs. Harry barely manages to slip Dobby into the closest in time before Uncle Vernon comes barging in like a bull. Absolutely red-faced, icily, and with a stony glare, he berates them in one last warning for them to be quiet or Harry will wish he'd never been born.

Miserably Harry speaks with exasperation as he shows Dobby why he has to go back to Hogwarts and the friends he has there.

It's when Dobby mentions that his friends don't write to him that it gets both Bailey and Harry's guard up.

Harry didn't mention that so how did Dobby know?

Harry demands answers at the slip-up.

Perspiration trickles on his bald head from apprehensive nerves Dobby pulls out a bundle of envelopes he had hidden on his person. Letters from Ron and Hermione that he'd been stealing in transition, wanting Harry to believe he was all alone and unwanted and making him not want to go back to school. Furious, barely keeping his own anger in check now, Harry demands he hands them over. Dobby contests saying he'll only hand over the letters if Harry agrees he'll never go back to Hogwarts this year.

Bailey's done playing nice.

The second she saw those stolen letters all bets were off.

Before Dobby has the chance to dodge Bailey lunges forward, snatching the letters from his small hands and into her mouth. Quickly she rushes over to Harry passing them to him.

Dobby is frustrated with himself when Harry says he still plans on returning to Hogwarts and the temper tantrum he has is enormous at his failure. So loud there's no question of the noise this time. Dobby disappears right as the door opens.

Uncle Vernon doesn't even see Dobby, but he does find the letters Harry is holding out in the open.

There's hell to pay for this.

As punishment for the noise at the dinner party and assuming Harry has been hiding secret communications all along Uncle Vernon locks Harry and Bailey in the bedroom, declaring they're never going back to that school.

Uncle Vernon was as bad as his word. The following morning, he paid a man to fit bars on Harry's window. He himself fitted a cat flap in the bedroom door so that small amounts of food could be pushed inside three times a day. They let Harry and Bailey out to use the bathroom morning and evening. Otherwise they were locked in that room around the clock.

Three days later following the incident the Dursleys were showing no sign of relenting and Harry couldn't see any way out of this situation. Things are looking even bleaker for Bailey the closer her due date was getting. If they don't make it out Bailey will lose her pups as soon as they're born. She can't protect them like this. At Hogwarts, they'd be safe. Privet Drive is a guaranteed death sentence.

The cat-flap rattled and Aunt Petunia's hand appeared, pushing a bowl of canned soup and another one filled with dog food into the room. Harry jumped off his bed and seized it. He drank half of it in one gulp and then crossed the room to Hedwig's cage and tipped the soggy vegetables at the bottom of the bowl into her empty food tray. She ruffled her feathers and gave him a look of deep disgust.

Grimly, Harry said "It's no good turning your beak up at it. That's all we've got."

Harry gives the dog food to Bailey, laying down beside her and stroking her back as she eats.

Afterwards, with nothing else to do, Harry and Bailey simply lay there as the room grows dark. Exhausted, stomach rumbling, mind spinning over the same unanswerable questions, the pair fall into a deep sleep cuddling together.

Deep into the night, Bailey is awoken by a sputtering and rattling noise that sounds like it is coming from an old car engine of some kind outside the bedroom window. Carefully maneuvering out of Harry's arms Bailey inches over to the window to see what it might be.

Whatever it is she was expecting none of it came close to see Ron peering back at her through the bars.

And you know what else…he's sitting in a floating car with Fred and George parked in the air right beside the window.

What on earth…?

Authors Note:

Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early last morning after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.

When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in someway. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.

Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.

Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads. But when it does I'm definitely pressing the report abuse button.

Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
