A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 Chapter 4
The very first thing Harry does in the cat is let Hedwig out of her confinement. Within seconds Hedwig is soaring joyfully out of the window to glide alongside them like a ghost in the clouds and open air.
Afterward, once everything is confirmed that they're safe and secure, Ron doesn't waste any time in interrogating Harry on why he never responded back to any of the numerous letters he sent and exactly what he meant by they were being intercepted.
Harry informed Ron, Fred, and George of everything. About Dobby the house-elf and all the details he said to him as a warning.
Fred and George are already of one mind that it's all very queer. They then answer the question Harry has as to why Dobby kept punishing himself each time he nearly lets something slip he wasn't supposed to. Turns out that no house-elf can use magic or pass information about their present master's secrets to anyone else without express permission. So the very fact that Dobby had snuck away from the house he's in servitude to so he can speak to Harry is a monstrous violation of these rules. The twins figure that Dobby was sent to stop Harry from coming to Hogwarts as a practical joke of a sort. Harry and Ron's minds turn instantly to Draco Malfoy, their nemesis as 1st years. Either way, Dobby had to be owned by a rich Wizarding family even though it's impossible to confirm if he's the Malfoy's property or not.
The whole time this conversation was playing out Bailey was sitting on Fred's lap in the front while Harry is in the back with Ron and Hedwig's cage. His arm was wrapped around her to keep her from falling off the seat and he could clearly feel how big her stomach is. Something that contrasts with what Harry mentioned about them being practically starved during their stay on Privet Drive.
"Harry, you said you guys were barely getting any food? So Bailey's stomach should be a lot thinner than this. She's not sick with something is she," said Fred in worried concern.
Shaking his head, and smiling, Harry said "No. In fact, she's not sick at all. I have good news for you guys."
"What is it," said Ron, eagerly.
"Bailey's pregnant! She's going to have puppies," declared Harry, happily.
In unison, all three brothers exclaimed "What?"
"Yes, Bailey is going to be a mom," said Harry, grinning.
"Wait a minute hold it. If she's pregnant…then who is the dad? Could it be a stray from your neighborhood," inquired George.
"No. The vet gave me a timeline of when she probably got pregnant and it had to be when we were in school," said Harry.
"Then…no," gasped Ron, mouth agape as he thought over the possibilities of who the father of her litter might be. "It's got to be either Fang or Fluffy."
"There's no way in hell it's Fluffy. That Cerberus was way too big. No way she was giving birth to his pups," argued Harry.
"Then it's got to be Fang. There were no other canines available," said Ron.
Unsure, Harry said "I don't know about that either. I mean everyone could see how she and Fang were together. Anytime Fang tried something she'd basically come really close to almost ripping his head off. She tolerates him well enough but only as a friend."
"Then who else could it have been," demanded Ron.
Shrugging, Harry said "I don't know, but we'll find out once the puppies are born. We'll be able to figure out what mixed breeds they are then."
"Do you think she'll give birth at our house or at Hogwarts," said Fred, curious.
"I don't know, but it's going to be close. I was hoping Bailey would go into labor at Hogwarts. That way my Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin wouldn't have been able to do anything to them. You should've heard what Uncle Vernon was saying he was going to do. He was going to take them away from Bailey and drown them," said Harry, disdainfully.
The twins and Ron were outraged upon hearing this. To them that is beyond simply being cruel. All three of the boys promise Harry here and now that even if Bailey does have the misfortune to give birth before reaching Hogwarts then the puppies would be safe and protected until getting to Hogwarts.
This alone makes Bailey feel so much better and she relaxes for the remainder of the car ride duration which isn't to continue for much longer.
Time does seem to fly faster whenever you travel by air.
By the time they reach the Weasley home a faint pinkish glow has become visible along the horizon to the east signaling it's just about dawn. Molly, Ginny, and Percy would be roused from their beds soon. At this point, the edge of a brilliant red sun was now gleaning through the tree line. There isn't much time left.
"We're a little way outside the village. Ottery St. Catchpole," said George.
"Touchdown," said Fred, managing to land the car safely with only a slight bump next to a tumbledown garage in a small yard.
"Welcome to the Burrow," said George, proudly.
Bailey and Harry peer out the windows to stare at the Weasley house.
Sheepishly, Ron said "It's not much."
"It's wonderful," said Harry, happily wistful.
The Burrow has Bailey's approval, too. A massive improvement from Privet Drive in her opinion.
The plan is to slip inside without anyone knowing and then come downstairs when Molly Weasley calls them for breakfast, announcing the surprise arrival of Harry and Bailey late in the night.
Yeah, like that was going to work.
They haven't even gone 6 feet when Mrs. Weasley is seen marching across the yard with a red face filled with an unbridled fury that horrifies her already guilty boys. Tossing the idea of avoiding confrontation out the literal window. To Harry and Bailey's great fortune Mrs. Weasley isn't blaming them in the slightest. She's aiming it all at her children. She does soften when she hears the condition the two had been in, taking note Harry is a touch paler and thinner than he should be. Her anger is entirely redirected at the Dursleys when she learns how they treated the pregnant red retriever. Ron, George, and Fred will still be facing a score of retribution from their mother as a consequence. Right now there are others for her to turn her focus on.
Mrs. Weasley sets right to work. Filling Harry's plate to the brim with sausages, eggs, buttered, toast, and plenty of bacon on the side. The tantalizing smells in the kitchen cause Bailey's hunger pangs to skyrocket. She whines and paws at Harry for something to eat. Turns out Harry has no need to provide Bailey with tidbits from his breakfast. Mrs. Weasley is more than happy to give her a plate of her own. If Bailey was human she'd be singing Mrs. Weasleys praises as she's munching down on her breakfast and drinking from a water bowl that is generously provided.
First time both of their bellies have been this full since they'd departed from Hogwarts following 1st year.
They're briefly joined by another in the Weasley household when Ginny, the youngest and only daughter of the family, comes down the stairs, takes one glance at Harry, and bolts back up the stairs with a squeal. Not usually this shy Ginny has been talking about Harry all summer and judging by her siblings has a little crush on him. Recalling how Ginny reacted to Harry the first time they met on Platform 9 ¾'s it isn't much of a surprise.
Washing the breakfast dishes doesn't take long. Their efforts to go up to bed for good sleep are waylaid by Mrs. Weasley. She pretty much orders Ron, Fred, and George to go out to the garden to do something called de-gnome the garden as punishment, whatever that is.
Yawning and grumbling the Weasleys slouched outside with a curious Harry and Bailey behind them.
"Muggles have garden gnomes, too, you know," informed Harry as they crossed the lawn.
"Yeah, I've seen those things they think are gnomes," said Ron, bent double with his head in a peony bush. "Like fat little Santa Clauses with fishing rods…"
There's a violent scuffling noise and Ron straightens up holding his prize.
Grimly, he said "This is a gnome."
"Get off me! Get off me," squealed the gnome.
"Blimey," said Harry, gapping at it.
To Bailey's astonishment, its appearance resembles nothing like Santa Claus. It was small and leathery looking, with a large, knobby, bald head exactly like a potato. Ron held it at arm's length as it kicked out at him with its horny little feet. Ron, expertly from past experience, sees fit to grasp it around the ankles and turn it upside down.
"This is what you have to do," he said, raising the gnome above his head and starting to swing it in great circles similar to a cowboy with a lasso. "It doesn't hurt them. You just got to make them really dizzy so they can't find their way back to the gnome holes."
Ron releases the gnome's ankles for further demonstration. It flew twenty feet into the air and landed with a thud in the field over the hedge.
"Pitiful," said Fred, clucking his tongue. "I bet I can get mine beyond that stump."
Harry learned quickly not to feel too sorry for the gnomes. He decided just to drop the first one he caught over the hedge and got bit in the finger for his troubles. The resulting throw send the perpetrator at an estimated fifty feet.
The air was soon thick with flying gnomes.
"See, they're not too bright," said George, seizing five or six of the troublemaking gnomes at once. "The moment they know the de-gnoming's going on they storm up to have a look. You'd think they'd have learned by now just to stay put."
More fun for Bailey this way.
With each gnome that steps out into the open Bailey decides to chase and herd them around into large groups near the boys, making it easier for them to be caught. Each time one would make an escape attempt she'd be there to head them off, earning her a ton of praise and pats from the lot of them when they were finished with grand success.
Something tells Bailey she's definitely going to like it here no doubt. The Burrow is now her new favorite place, neck and neck with Hogwarts.
Authors Note:
I'm debating on whether or not to have Bailey travel with Harry with the Floo powder, one of the Weasleys since she's pregnant and might need someone more experienced to hold her, or remain at the Burrow. Although the latter would deprive her of seeing Draco in Diagon Alley. If she goes how do you think she should react to meeting Mr. Malfoy or Lockhart? I have some ideas brewing already but would like to know your opinions on what should happen.
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early last morning after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in someway. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads. But when it does I'm definitely pressing the report abuse button.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
