Chapter 10: Blowing Off Steam
Note: It's time for Sweeney to kill a few orderlies. Don't worry he'll hide their bodies in a way that will prevent them from tracking him, then the extra room will be finished. Again I don't know if this chapter will be shorter or not.
I marched toward the asylum. I could feel my heart beating in my chest, and my adrenaline pumping. These bastards hurt my Lucy, and anyone who hurts her will answer to me. There was an alley nearby that I could hide in. If any of them were grouped with two or more people I couldn't risk trying to battle two people. I would drag a person into the alley, kill them, then pull them to the back of the alley.
I realize that will cause the police to be on the alert again. But I knew with my clothing and hat I could keep suspicion off me as I adventure back to London to see Lucy, as well as back home to the cabin. Once I saw the asylum in view I dodged to the alley and hunkered down far enough to be hidden. These scum deserved to die, and I would send them to hell where they belonged. I wondered how Lucy managed to survive so long in this pit. A couple of orderlies came out trading places with others.
Damn, no one will come out alone. Come on you lot, Sweeney's waiting. After an hour, one came out alone. His replacement greeted him and entered the asylum. Just as he passed the alley, I lunged out and grabbed him. Covering his mouth, I pulled him into the alley before he had a chance to fight.
This is for you my light. With one swipe of my razor he was dead. Dragging his body into the back of the alley, I dropped him remorseless, sneering at his body. I turned back to the alley's entrance and waited some more. After a while of waiting another orderly finally came out alone. Repeating the last strategy I killed him too.
My blood lust was not quenched, nor do I think it ever truly will be. The next orderly I caught alone managed to put up a struggle, but he didn't have time to call for help before I finished him. Come on, bastards, too many of you still draw breath. I have time to kill one more man, then I have no choice but to go before the sun comes up. Waiting longer was annoying, but I was doing it. I looked bored waiting for him.
Finally one more orderly came out alone. I had to pull farther into the shadows as he looked around. Once he began to leave I rushed out and grabbed him, pulling him in. "It's time to die for Lucy." With one last swipe I killed the fourth orderly. When the coast was clear I began to quickly walk back to the carriage.
I made sure there was no blood trail as I walked. The sun was beginning to rise when I finally returned. Thankfully Anthoney and Johanna seemed to be asleep, though I had my bloody razor hidden. I looked around to see no one was in the living room, so I assumed they went to their beds, or they had better be at least. I sighed seeing that Anthony and Johanna were in fact in their separate rooms. My adrenaline high had not worn off yet, so I couldn't sleep.
I heard a knock on my door. I called them to enter. "Dad, you've returned." I walked back to my daughter and put my hand on her cheek, "Yes, my flower, I have." "Did you talk to my mother?" "I did, she is safe, but she does not remember who we are." Johanna looked downcast on this news.
"But I have made friends with her now, I will tell her about us getting her off the streets, and maybe she will slowly remember over time." "I hope she will." We both left the room to be greeted by Anthony. I told them about how Lucy was living and how we needed to finish the extra room for her, I did neglect to tell them some things though. "I get a weekly paycheck, we can slowly get her some furniture as we build" the sailor said. I nodded to him.
So over the next two months we worked on the extra room. Anthony and Johanna were getting closer, and a little too physical for my liking, sending the sailor a threatening glare sometimes. With the murder of the few orderlies, I did have a harder time getting around London. But I did get to see Lucy sometimes. There were times when she had suffered bouts of mental breaks, and she sometimes struggled to recall my visits, but she could be somewhat calm, and we could have conversations. A few times I had to save her from being robbed.
I had told her about being able to live in the cabin. She did need some convincing, but she eventually agreed, though she did need some reminders of this information. At the end of the second month the room was made, and had a bed, a closet, and a night stand. "It's done Mr Todd." "My mother can finally get off of the streets." I sighed and smiled at Johanna. "I have to warn you, she knows you were Turpin's ward, but she won't recognize you as her daughter."
"I understand father" she answered with a sad smile. I put my hands on her shoulders. Even if she never truly recovers, I think we can help her a little, but it will not be an easy thing to do." "We will do what we can then" Anthony said. Don't worry Lucy, soon you will not have to beg for money and food anymore. I don't know how, and I don't know when, but all who ruined our lives will be dead, and we will be a family again.
Note: alright so next chapter we will continue the arc with Lucy, and we will catch up with Turpin a little too. If Lucy is to believably recover at least some, I think it needs to take some time. Another O.C. will enter soon, but this will be necessary for the story as you will see soon.
