Chapter 11: Getting Lucy
Note: This Chapter Sweeney will locate Lucy again and will bring her to the cabin, and we will take a look at what the judge is doing. I apologize if I struggle with a few things as the story continues. We'll start with Sweeney's perspective for most of the chapter, but Turpin's part will still be important.
It was a rough couple days. Anthony's orderly cover still was demanded for income, and to avoid suspicion. Because of this I couldn't see Lucy for now and get her off the streets. I tried my best not to lose my temper around Johanna. Sneaking out and killing small animals only barely sustained my pull to kill people. Vermin still walked the streets of London to bring to hell, and the weak still needed the comfort of death, and I couldn't bring it.
Thankfully today was a day that Anthony could bring me to London to collect Lucy. We needed to wait where it was dark so I could go to her and bring her home. "It will be OK father, the sun is setting, it won't be long now." "We'll finally be together again, but not as a family yet" I responded. "She needs help Johanna, so much help." "We'll do it together father, you, me, and Anthony.
I sighed, running my fingers through my hair. "We'll give it an hour Mr Todd" Anthony told me. Another hour something could happen to her. "Stay calm father, it'll be OK i swear." I nodded to her. As time passed and I paced waiting for us to go.
Is Lucy alright, has anyone harmed her since last time. If anyone has harmed her ANYONE, I will hunt them down. After what felt like hours, the sun had disappeared. "Do you want to come?" Anthony asked Johanna. "I don't really have a way to hide myself like you and dad." Anthony smiled at her and nodded.
They both leaned forward and pressed the lips together gently. The sailor quickly spun around and grinned at me. "Let's go get Lucy Mr Todd." I agreed, making sure I had my razors, since Johanna was still gazing at Anthony. He turned back to her and they held their gaze. The glint in Johanna's eyes reminded me of her mother. It made me uncomfortable however, and it was not because of the love they seemed to share.
Will I ever see that glint in my wife's eyes again? I was no longer like the man I used to be, and he was never coming back. Benjamin Barker died in Australia, and I was born in that piece of hell. That said, my Lucy was no longer the same woman was she? No, Turpin destroyed her, and she took that Arsenic, which was sent to her own personal hell after a while." Thinking about it made a lust for blood pump through my veins.
"It's time to go Anthony." The sailor turned to me and nodded. We said our goodbyes to Johanna and began on our way. "It will be ok Mr Todd, I fed the horses before we left." "I still love her so much Anthony, I must get her off the streets. There are so many vile people out there and she is in danger from them all."
After a while we finally arrived back in London. "Stay here Hope, with any luck I will be back with her." "OK, Mr Todd, keep your hat on and be careful." "I have my friends with me, no one will stand in my way." I turned on my heel and began to search for my wife. Sometimes I would pass people on the street.
They were like cockroaches. It made me almost feel ill to listen to these bastards as I searched. This was not a safe place for her. After a while I came close to that bastard's house. That piece of shit was living in his lavish home, while my wife lived in the streets like a dog. She tried to wait for me, she tried to raise Johanna without me, and he hounded her, tricked her, and pushed her over the edge by defiling her.
I wish I could march in there now and kill him, but that will only get me caught. I took those thoughts out of my mind, but someday I will bring Turpin to justice. I continued to look for Lucy until I finally found her. I became livid as I saw a man tightly holding her wrist, and she was trying to escape. I marched over to him and snarled, "let go of the lady now!" "Stay out of this" The man snarled.
I pulled out my razor, and his eyes widened as I pointed it at him. "OK, OK" he said as he stumbled back. He spun as he bolted. "Thank you sir" Lucy said to me shaking. "Did he hurt you?" I asked as I put my razor away. "No, I'm OK."
She looked toward me. "You're that Mr Todd fellow, yes? The one who said you had a place for me to stay?" I smiled as I realized she could remember. "I'm here to take you there." A large grin spread across her face.
"Yes, please take me out of here." I led her back to the carriage. "Mr Todd you made it" Anthony. "Don't fear him Lucy, he is my friend." "I recognize him" she told me. "I asked you about Johanna."
Lucy nodded to him. "Johanna is with us as you recall" I told her. Helping her into the back of the carriage letting Anthony take the reins. Finally getting Lucy off the streets, I didn't know if I could help her, but I would try. Anthony called the horses to leave and they marched off. (Turpin's POV.)
I read the letter again and again. I have clearly received the letter you sent for me. Yes I could tell you all about how Mr Barker has changed, and what he may be thinking. I believe we should speak in person. It will take some time for me to arrive, but I shall mail you again when I arrive. Signed Daniel Hyde.
It took me a while to receive the letter, but I was happy I had managed to contact him. Soon I might be able to find Barker and remove him from the picture once and for all. I should have had him hung, not sent away. Soon however I would fix my mistake. Your days are numbered Mr Todd I promise you.
Note: Next Chapter will be when Lucy finally arrives at the cabin. Both fluff and drama will happen in the next chapter. Like I said Lucy won't remember everything, but things will happen that will begin the process in the next chapter.
