Chapter 13: Nightmares And Flashbacks

Note: This chapter will start with Lucy having some nightmares and will end with flashbacks for Lovett. Lucy's nightmare will also be flashbacks but with a nightmarish tint at times about her going to bedlam. This chapter begins in Lucy's POV.

I was having that nightmare again. I could not remember why exactly Lovett sent me to bedlam but I had a vague relocation of something she said. "You've been wasting away for months. You've become pathetic you silly little nit. Your daughter was taken by the judge because of your weakness. Don't worry, you are going to be sent to the asylum Lucy."

She said some more things but that is all I could remember when they came. I struggled against them and shrieked. I saw her smirk as they pulled me away and threw me into the carriage to the asylum. "No please, let me go!" "They are going to take care of you," Lovett said. "YOU ARE THE DEVIL'S WIFE!" I screamed in rage.

"All right lady don't keep struggling, the easier you give in the easier you get in. "I hope she'll be taken care of," Lovett said. "She'll be in the best of care ma'm. They managed to subdue me despite my best efforts to break free from their grasps. "We'll get you to the asylum and take care of you." "I believe her name was Lucy Barker," another man said.

Eventually we arrived at Fogg's asylum. They marched me in and led me to a large door and knocked on it. "Come in" came a calm, but eerie voice. They came in and pushed me in front of the owner of the building himself. "I see you have a new patient for me?" "We were approached by someone named Lovett, to have her friend brought here to get help."

"Is she the woman married to the man who broke into the judge's home?" "I believe so Mr Fogg." "Poor woman, poor, poor woman" Fogg said, though he sounded more condescending than sincere. Fogg walked around to his desk and pulled something out of it. "Get her in this straight jacket and toss her in with the women." I screamed and struggled against the men.

The next thing I knew I felt a sharp pain in my arm. I turned to see the Fogg injected some kind of liquid through a needle. I felt tired all of the sudden and I stopped fighting. They forced me in the straight jacket and carried me away. We marched up the stairs of the asylum until we reached the right floor. They dragged me with the other woman and tossed me in.

Some of the women screamed in horror. Other women crawled toward the back of the wall shivering. I wanted to scream and plead but I felt too weak to do so. I tried to stand but I couldn't. All I could do was lie there. I didn't want to be here, I wanted to go home, go back to people that I couldn't remember.

I could already tell by how broken the other women looked that this place was horrible. (Note: this is the end of the flashback part, as the nightmare tint begins. So we'll have a nightmare version of Lovett here, so she'll come across as pretty horrible here because of this being a nightmare.) "Right where garbage like you deserve to be" I heard her voice. "It's all your own fault you were placed here. You silly little nit, you stupid bitch.

You could have ignored him, stayed home with your daughter instead of leaving here with me. But you believed them, you idiot. You've lost your husband, you've lost your daughter, your dignity, and your mind, because of your weakness and foolishness. I hope you enjoy your personal hell, you deserve this fate, you worthless piece of shit." I woke up sitting bolt upright panting heavily. I still didn't get what this nightmare was telling me.

I had a husband who broke into the judges house, and I lost my daughter and did something that made me who I am now. I also trusted someone who I shouldn't have trusted. I didn't get what this all meant, but maybe with help I could remember. That man who let me stay here seemed to know me, maybe he will try to help me. (Lovett's POV.) My relationship was going forward, and I knew I'd be able to kill Todd soon.

Me and Robert had hit it off during our dinner. "So you were married to a butcher?" "I always wanted to be a baker, so marrying a butcher made sense. Besides he wasn't a bad man, he wasn't the greatest but he was still a friendly man. Of course then I started developing feelings for Benjamin." He nodded sympathetically. "My husband dies, and the barber I loved returns as a murderer."

"He's still out there Nellie," Robert warned me. "He might come after me Robert." "Don't worry Eleanor, I won't let him hurt you." He really seems like a good sort. "I really need to learn how to defend myself, Robert." "You do have plenty of baking tools at your disposal."

"But he could catch me off guard though." Robert stood up from the table and motioned to me to come toward him. "Get ready because I'm about to grab you." Before I could react he grabbed my arm from the side, spun around me and wrenched my arm behind my back. I winced slightly as he bent my elbow and shoved it into my back. "This pines your arm behind you and can make you drop weapons."

He let go of me and I rubbed my arm. "I could have pushed your arm harder into you causing pain to your arm and back. Now I want you to do to me what I did to you." I realized that Sweeney did that to me in my first attempt to fight him. I walked over to Robert and did as he did, getting his arm bent and pinned behind him. "Good job, but if you have to fight him physically the fact he's stronger than you will make it so he can reverse this on you easily."

"So what should I do?" "You've already shown me that you are a decently strong woman, but you'll need to close that strength gap between you. The problem is he has about fifteen years of hard labor behind him." "Are you saying I need to do hard Labor?" "You already have to do a little, but there are things you can do to build strength. You already lift your flour on the table to pour it, so you could just carry flour around."

"My legs are strong from climbing up and down the bakehouse stairs, so building upper body strength sounds like a good idea." I didn't want Robert to know I planned to kill Sweeney with one of his "friends." So for the next several months my and Robert drew closer to teach other. We had our first kiss in the first month, and became more intimate. We officially were dating each other. My Pie Emporium stayed a hit, and I felt myself get a little bit stronger, though not by much.

Robert taught me how to increase power behind a punch, how to get a hold on someone's head to give a good headbutt, and how to ram my shoulder into someone properly. I didn't know if it was quite love yet, like I used to feel for Benjamin. I could at least trust Robert wouldn't try to kill me. "It will be a time before you can feasibly match Sweeney in strength Eleanor, but I will always be around to aid you if need be." I smiled at Robert and kissed his cheek. "Hopefully he'll be found soon Robert."

He put his arms around my waist. "He will Eleanor, that is a promise." I heard a knock on the door, shaking me from my memories. Someday Sweeney I will kill you, and avenge Toby in the process. I opened the door to see my beloved Robert once again.

Note: Next chapter will be about Sweeney dealing with Lucy's spotty mental state as well as go into him dealing with Anthony and Johanna falling deeper in love. Most importantly a certain someone will finally show up so we can get the story moving again.
