A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 Chapter 16
Morning couldn't come soon enough.
Harry and Bailey both barely achieved a wink of sleep the rest of the night. Not after all they learned.
As soon as Madam Pomfrey gives Harry the greenlight on his arm the two of them are immediately out of there.
Harry finds them hard at work in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom over the Polyjuice Potion. There's no need for him to mention Colin. They already know. After all, rumors spread quickly here at Hogwarts. This simply gives them even more incentive to finish this potion as quickly as possible to confirm whether Malfoy is the Heir. The whole school is in a frenzy about Colin. In the timespan between attacks, assumptions were that it had been an older student playing it up as a joke. Now an actual student has been attacked. Everyone is on the alert, taking drastic measures to keep safe. The first years especially felt most vulnerable since they were brand new here.
In the 2nd week of December, the potion is only half finished, and key ingredients missing. These supplies they can only get from Snape's private stores. Intruding on this sacred space of his is a death sentence for anyone that dares to step foot in there without his say.
A plan is put in place to steal from him. One that's hazardous enough where the risk of Bailey getting in the crossfire from a stray potion is a possibility. Something Harry wants to avoid so he has the foresight to drop Bailey off at Hagrid's. He and the others will come pick her up when the job is done.
The pups are now 3 ½ months old and will be a couple of days from 4 months when Christmas officially hits.
Bailey watches her pups intermingle in their vigorous and boisterous play with each other she can't help but pay more attention to that alongside their different personalities their individual physical characteristics are a lot more apparent now than they were when they were newborns.
Bounder has a black back and sides with a red underbelly, a left ear bent, and one white rear paw. Bold is dark red with black socks and retriever-like ears. Ranger is dark grey to blue coloring with upright ears and golden eyes. Friendly is a medium golden color with white paws and underbelly, golden eyes, and retriever ears.
The three girls, Whisper, Dreamer, and Charmer share their mother's gorgeous red fur, but there are mixtures that go with them.
Charmer has a light red coat with tiny flecks of gold, four white paws and upright ears, and golden amber eyes similar to her father. Whisper is a grey and red marble coat, with warm eyes, a flash of white at the tip of her tail, and upright ears. Dreamer is completely red all over with her right ear being a quarter of the way bent.
The size difference between the pups is most apparent between the littlest female Dreamer and the largest male Bounder. There's a significant few pounds different there. Then again Dreamer was always the runt of the litter.
Big, small, male, or female, Bailey loves them all.
They've made tremendous strides and passed major milestones in their developmental stages. By watching and imitating their mother they are learning crucial and valuable survival skills every minute of the day. Although they are at a slight disadvantage with her no longer tending to their every need all the time.
In the beginning, when they'd first been introduced to living outside 24/7 instead of being in Gryffindor Tower with her, Bailey was nervous about how they would react. Initially, all seven were understandably timid. They'd been taken outside to go to the bathroom, but never during all day and night. Unsurprisingly Bold is the quickest to adapt, intrigued by new sites, sounds, and things to eat in this environment. Bold learned the hard way that not all things are edible. His brothers aren't far behind with Dreamer being the last. It certainly helps that they have each other and none of them are by their lonesome. They remain extensively dependent on her.
This newfound space and independence didn't mean that none of the pups weren't anxious for their mother's company, affection, and attention which is the main reason why they all greet her so exuberantly like today whenever she comes to their enclosure on her frequent daily visits.
Being so young this life is all they know. A loving mother dedicated to their upbringing.
Far better conditions than the short existence they would've faced if they'd had the misfortune to be born at Privet Drive.
Already a noted difference from her own upbringing since Bailey was separated from her own mother and siblings when she was a small baby herself.
The uncertainty of their future weighs heavily on her mind.
Bailey was pleased with how her babies are thriving in this triumph, but it still saddens her considerably each time she must leave them. Can't say she isn't tempted to stay down there with them, but her duty to Harry always wins out. If circumstances had been different in their living conditions, she would've preferred they be with her always, but in this, she is forced to step back. So, she treasures times like this knowing they won't last forever.
That doesn't mean that she couldn't use a break every now and again.
It's hard being a single mom with so many kids to raise and discipline on her own even with all the help she's already been provided with a brood this big. Here she greatly appreciates the human presence that occasionally takes over in compensation. Hagrid likes spending time with them and does so whenever the opportunity presents itself although Fang keeps his distance, not wanting to face Bailey's ire or get turned into a chew time. With how sharp the pup's teeth are he might lose an ear so that's probably a wise choice. Still, it's not quite the same as having a second parent in the picture to complete the family dynamic. As nice as Fang is despite his cowardice, he's not quite a prime example of what a dog can or should be.
There's when their activity might be too much when Bailey wishes their father was here with her to lend a helpful paw.
Little does Bailey know that her wish is about to come true.
For on the edge of the Dark Forest, a pair of familiar golden eyes is watching them from the shadows. Because this individual is downwind, he goes undetected, but when the wind shifts direction that all changes.
Bounder, Ranger, and Friendly are the ones that detect the lurking interloper on their turf that is appraising them.
They bark and growl aggressively in that direction, alerting the rest about this visitor and warning the intruder that they've been spotted.
Bold holds back, moving into a defensive position in front of the three sisters.
Bailey is at the fence squinting her eyes at the Dark Forest, raising her muzzle in the air as she takes in this person's scent.
Bailey's eyes widen when she manages to identify it.
It's been almost half a year, but she recognizes it anywhere.
Bailey makes her way out of the enclosure, being sure all seven pups remain inside, and approaches the visitor, waving her tail in greeting and barking a welcome.
Bailey's nonaggressive behavior is an invitation. One that it accepted.
Stepping into the light is a wolf with blue-gray fur.
The same alpha woof she met in the Forbidden Forest and fathered her little ones.
The two reunite in the middle. The pair touch snouts, sniffing each other and reacquainting their scents. Bailey whines about her love for him, and he lightly nibbles her ear in fondness.
A number of the pups are pacing the fence in agitation, nervous about their mother standing so close to this stranger.
Bailey decides to change that. She leads her mate over to the enclosure intent on the pups meeting their father.
The pups are in awe of this enormous wolf looming over their much smaller forms. The pup's fear and apprehension are slowly transforming into intrigue and curiosity to find out more, becoming comfortable with his presence.
They may reach their mother's belly in height and a third of her body length, but this guy is significantly bigger.
With gentle encouragement, Bailey coxes them over pushing past their comfort zones in this unique socialization session.
The pups cower, ears and tails tucked low, trying to lick the muzzle of this alpha male. The exact right kind of submissive behavior for acceptance, natural instincts kicking in big time.
Bailey's very proud of them for this. Even the bothersome and hyperactive Bold realizes the seriousness behind this first meeting and behaves himself. His normal bravado nonexistent. This meets Bailey's approval. She doesn't believe any of them would've liked their father asserting and establishing his dominance even through the barrier.
A few minutes later things appear to settle down as the alpha male wolf interacts with the pups through the barrier.
The atmosphere calms considerably.
All of them are so absorbed in this that they fail to notice Harry, Ron, and Hermione step onto the scene until they're right on top of them.
"What the…!"
The shout startles the male wolf, and he justifiably so goes dashing for the safety of the woods.
Bailey spins around to face the new arrivals.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione stare in open-mouthed shock at the giant wolf standing at her side.
Snapping out of it first, offhandedly in a joking manner, Ron said "Well, I guess we can officially rule Fang out as the baby daddy now."
No kidding.
Authors Note:
Huge shoutout to reviewer Steelcode. Without them this chapter might not have gotten up as fast as it did. I could not figure out what to put down for each pups physical descriptions.
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of months ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
