Tommy and the Secret Club
Didi shifted in her seat, glanced over at Stu who was looking rather proud but also a touch nervous. The theater was packed, all their friends and family sitting in their best formal wear, murmuring and chatting to themselves and the orchestra played soft music to fill the air.
"Are you as nervous as I am?" Stu asked.
"Maybe even more so!" Stu admitted. "This… this is such a big honor!"
"I just don't know if we deserve it."
"We really do-" He stopped as the music suddenly changed. "Oh! They're about to begin."
"Ladies and Gentlemen," an announcer said, "presenting your host… Edwin Chaos!"
Mr. Chaos walked out onto the stage, smiling as the crowd applauded, waving to some people as he moved to the podium. "Welcome everyone! I'm glad you could all be here tonight for this very special occasion. Competent. It is a complex word and even more complex to achieve it. Though we really don't think it should be in our lives more often than not we find ourselves making mistakes. Doing the wrong thing and regretting it. Which is why I am so happy to be here tonight."
He motioned to the large projection screen above him and Didi and Stu watched as images of Angelica playing with Tommy and the other babies appeared.
"Tonight I am honored to present to Stu and Didi Pickles the award of being Competent in raising their son for one episode of Rugrats!"
The audience cheered and Didi blushed.
"Yes. Instead of ignoring their children while they go into dangerous situations or listening to quack doctors or worrying about the wrong thing… Stu and Didi were completely competent. The babies were allowed to play but never get in trouble, they didn't make the situation worse, and their actions never made us go, "God they are idiots!" So congratulations of Stu and Didi! YOU! WERE! COMPETENT!
Didi and Stu walked up on stage to accept their award. "Thank you. Thank you." Stu smiled. "Websters defines competent as-"
"I'm not stranger to love! You know the rules and so do i!"
"Huh?" Stu said, blinking as the stage disappeared and he found himself in his pajamas lying in bed. "Ugh… that was a weird dream."
