Chuckie Is Rich
"So these investments pay dividends as they mature. You can pull out early, if you need the money, but otherwise you can just sit and let them increase in value."
"That's great Drew," Chas said as he looked over the portfolio that Drew had set up for him. All the parents were gathered around Drew's dining room table; they were going to do it at Chas' place but the roofers were there fixing things up that day. "I would be lost without your help. Sure, $10 million is a lot of money…"
"5 after taxes, those jerks," Charlotte muttered.
"No problem at all!" Drew assured him. "Charlotte and I are using the same thing for our savings."
Stu nodded. "And Didi and I are thinking we'll get started on that in a year or two… we want to build up a nest egg to fall back on before we lock our money up."
Betty just chuckled. "Howie and I just wait for his dad to send us checks."
"So," Howard asked, "other than investing what are you thinking about doing with the money, Chas?"
"Well, there is a college fund for Chuckie, of course." He reached down and ruffled his son's head, as the babies were playing under the table. "And I think if I can invest this properly I'd really like to start of scholarship or something in Melinda's name."
Didi smiled. "Chas, that would be wonderful."
He smiled. "Yeah, I think so too." He took a deep breath. "So I'm investing half of the money now but the other half I want to use to open my own business."
"Your own business?" Betty said. "Finally getting away from corporate life?"
"Things haven't been great at the office to begin with and I… its just not what I want to do."
"What are you thinking of opening up?" Didi asked.
"I was thinking a coffee shop. There are growing right now and I've done some research… I think they'll explode soon!"
"Well, I think that is a wonderful idea!" Drew said. "It requires a big investment but if you do it right it can make you a lot of money."
Under the table Tommy looked at Chuckie. "Hey, why is your daddy going to by something that's gonna explode?"
"Uh… I don't know," Chuckie admitted. "Maybe because it's fun."
"Yeah!" Lil said. "Like a water balloon!"
"Or a handful of mud you throw at someone!"
"Well I hope it don't explode on me…" Chuckie said.
"Listen Charles," Charlotte said, "if you are going to do this I'd like to help. My company works with all sorts of talented minds who are great at planning these things out." She dug through her purse. "I met this one woman a week ago… she's thinking about getting into the personal assistant game but she has a lot of creative ideas. You should give her a call."
"Okay! Any help would be great." Chas looked at the card. "Kira Watanabe…"
