Chapter 20: Chasing The Barber

Note: So we begin with Nellie and Robert seeing the damage done to the pie shop, and Daniel begins his chase and reminisces about the first time "Sweeney Todd" manifested, and we end with the barber gang getting to Germany. So with further ado let's start with the bakers POV.

(Lovett's POV.) It was quite a comfortable night with Robert. I slept on his bed while he opted to the couch. He really was a good man. I came out of his room to see he was awake and making breakfast. It was a quiet meal as we ate eggs and bacon.

When we finished eating we decided to grab a carriage and head to my emporium to see what damage the barber may have done to my home. He helped me into the carriage like a proper gentleman. He sat beside me as the owner of the carriage began our trip. I had told him we were heading to my emporium. Once we had finally arrived we bid the driver a farewell, and he began on his way. He seemed to be a nice gentleman.

So we found that my door was smashed open. "You go in Robert, I need to check upstairs." When I entered I found that it was in good condition, but as I thought his razor case was gone. I bet I angered him with my note quite a bit, I thought, smirking. I decided it was time to head down and see the damage. I braced myself for the potential damage.

I passed through my broken door and gasped. The table was broken again, my cupboards were open and my baking supplies were all over the ground. I entered my room to see my bedroom door broken open. My bed was flipped over, and my bedside stand was on the ground with the doors ripped out. I decided it was time to check the house. Taking a deep breath I entered the living room, where Robert was currently in.

This was the place with the most damage. The couch was smashed and destroyed, The coffee table was smashed, The bookshelf was on the floor with the books strewn on the floor and shelves smashed, the walls had holes smashed in them with some of my rolling pins and frying pans near the walls, more than likely used to put the holes in, the piano had smashed keys and it the lid was smashed from Sweeney slamming it closed repeatedly. "He did a number on this place" Robert said walking next to me. "That absolute bastard, how dare that brute do this" I snarled. Robert put his hand on my shoulder and smiled at me sympathetically. "Considering the absolute rage I see in this destruction, I am glad you were not her Nellie."

"It will cost a lot to repair all of this damage." "I'll help you fix your home." "I know Robert. You are a better man than him, and I am glad to know you." "This will take us a while, Nellie but we will get it done." "Thank you, my love," I said, smiling at him.

(Daniels POV.) I had to get a couple of officers to accompany me to Germany. Jeremy Dod, and Jason Mackey were good officers and I trusted them to aid me in hunting down the barber and his accomplices. We were currently on the dock boarding the earliest ship headed to Germany. There were some English speaking places in Germany, and they could go to either one of them to escape me. The true test would be if Benjamin could resist his new found blood lust.

I still can recall when I began to see the rage that fuels his blood lust taking root in the man. I chuckled darkly at the memories flooding my mind about that shit stain. I was watching Barker with the pickaxe smashing the rocks he was instructed to smash. At least he was not as weak as he was when he started half a year ago, though I would still hear him whimper about his damned wife and daughter in his sleep. She must have been a hell of a woman to be worth all of this moaning. Why he would throw it away breaking into the honorable Judge Turpin's home I had know idea.

Oh right, he kept lying about his supposed innocence. No one here believed him, as we had heard it all before. As soon as the rock was destroyed I moved a heavier rock to him. "No slacking Barker, you keep smashing until we tell you to stop." He had already been whipped for slowing down three times today. He finally got accustomed enough to it that he was no longer whimpering when whipped so we had to be a bit more vicious when we did it.

It was getting about time for mealtime however, and we did need to keep his strength up, If only to keep him going for more hard labor. "Alright shit stain it's time to eat"I said as the horn signaling mealtime blew. He nodded, wiping sweat off his brow. "MOVE SCUM!" He spun around and headed toward the dining rooms, and I followed him to make sure he went where he was supposed to go. The other prisoners were filling in as well and heading toward the lunch line.

As they filed in, a prisoner who hated the barber filed behind him. He was just as sick of him moaning about his wife and daughter as the rest of us. "Hey Mr Barker, what do you think we will eat today?" "Probably the same old stuff Barney." "Probably not as good as what you're Lucy makes at home huh?" Barney sneered. "No, she is an amazing cook, an amazing woman. Unfortunately the judge only values her beauty."

"I believe you said the judge who sentenced you was quite a powerful one. Probably could give her a better life than a lowly man like you could give her." "He won't let her decide who she wants, he might harm her if she refuses" The Barber growled. "It's your own fault for breaking into his home," Barney said, ignoring him. Barney loved to get under the barber's skin, and it always gave me a chuckle. "Don't worry friend, I'm sure he is taking good care of her, and if he's not judging by what you have said about her she probably has a line of work she could get to support herself."

The shit stain clearly understood the implication of Barney's words as they sank in. "What are you saying?" the barber said, his voice surprisingly dark. "I simply mean that she will be just fine if she ends up on the streets, maybe the judge or another man will keep her warm for you. Before any one of us could react, the barber spun around and smashed Barney into the wall so hard his head banged against it. He went to punch Barney in the throat, but Barney tossed him off himself sending the barber on his rear. "Oh you want to fight Barker let's fight."

The barber leapt to his feet and tackled Barney to the ground. The other prisoners leapt out of the line and began cheering the two men. I ran toward one of the guards and borrowed their whip. The two prisoners wrestled each other on the floor, throwing punches when one was on top of the other. Eventually the barber got on top and pinned Barney to the floor. "I'll kill you for what you said about Lucy, I'll kill you."

He almost sounded possessed by a demon. His eyes darkened as he wrapped his hands around Barney's throat. I finally got through the cheering crowd. "ENOUGH!" I roared, snapping the whip. The barber ignored me and kept his hands around Barney's throat. I managed to wrestle the shit stain off of Barney and pin him to the wall.

I was still stronger than the barber but I was struggling to hold him. Barney stood up, coughing as he had his hands on his throat. Another guard came over to help me restrain the barber and carry him out of the room as a few guards grabbed Barney. We both threw him into his cell. "You want some bloodshed shit stain?" Then let's have some bloodshed" I said, brandishing the whip.

"Alright men get on the boat." We went to our separate rooms. "It won't be long barber" I said as I opened my suitcase. (Sweeney's POV.) We had been on our voyage for about two and a half months. We were close to a small port town in Germany.

Even if she couldn't remember me, and insanity would flare up on her, I felt satisfied to finally have Lucy in my life. I could see Anthony and Johanna's relationship strengthen. I finally have my little girl and the sailor wants to take her. I couldn't just kill him, Johanna would leave me forever then. I heard a knock on my door. I opened the door to see the ship captain.

"Morning Mr Todd, we have arrived." So we were in Germany. Hopefully we will be safe here. But I had a feeling that the feeling of safety would not last. The world was too dark and cruel to allow this to last.

Note: So they will get a hotel and figure out where they will establish themselves. Lovett and Robert will have worked on the emporium during the time skip this chapter. Sweeney will not have an easy time keeping his hatred of the world and blood lust in check. I'm not against Sweeney getting over some of that, but I'd like it to be character development and not just suddenly toning down his character.
