Mommy's Little Assets

"Jonathan," Charlotte said, walking over and grabbing Drew's tie seconds before Angelica plopped some wet cereal on it, "the meeting is next week, remember? Not today." She paused, smiling as her assistant fretted about hostile takeovers and board reviews. "Jonathan, its perfectly fine. I went over the calendar five times to make sure nothing would come up that would require me to come to the office."

"Charlotte, have you seen my green tie?" Drew asked. She silently held it out and he mouthed an apology for interrupting her while she was on the phone.

"Daddy, why is the baby here today?" Angelica pointed at Tommy who blinked before going back to eating his baby poofs.

"Your Uncle Stu and Aunt Didi are taking a little vacation."

"Why?"

"Because sometimes adults like to be away from their kids."

"Why?"

Drew took a breath; he was a bit frazzled and nearly snapped at his daughter but he took a moment to calm down. Angelica was at that age where she wanted to understand everything. "Well sweetheart, you know how sometimes you get tired of hearing the same storybook over and over?"

"Uh huh."

"And you know how you'll ask me to read you something new? That's what Uncle Stu and Aunt Didi are doing."

"Oh!" Angelica said only to frown. "But why did they leave the baby?" She pointed at Tommy who once again looked at her.

"You know how there are things you can do that Tommy can't? It's the same thing."

"OH!" Angelica said. "Because he's just a baby."

"Exactly," Drew said as Charlotte hung up the phone.

"Mommy, why are you dressed in your weekend clothes?" Angelica asked, looking at her moth standing there on a Wednesday wearing jeans and a pull over.

"Because I'm going to be working at home today so I can watch you and Tommy since your aunt and uncle aren't around."

"You're going to be here the entire day!?" Angelica asked, excited.

"That's right."

"And tomorrow I will be staying home to be with you, Princess," Drew said, kissing her on the forehead before doing the same to Tommy. "Today though I have to go bungee jumping… that will be fun." He grimaced before kissing Charlotte goodbye.

"Now then, why don't you finish your cereal and then we'll go into the living room and watch a movie. If you are good and let mommy focus on getting some work done while you watch it then we can go to the park this afternoon!"

Angelica grinned and hurriedly ate while Tommy just blinked, trying to figure out why things were so different… but also a lot like they were at his house.
