Chapter 22: Sleeping Problems

Note: So this chapter will have them find out where they need to go to start out. We'll begin with Daniel and end with them finding out a place where they can go. Lucy's sleepwalking will be in between. So without further ado.

We should have only been a day behind them, but things didn't work out so well for us. First we had to double back to return a stowaway who was apparently running from the law making us fall back a couple days. I cursed the foolish woman who hid here and got in the way. After that we seemed to be making our way there. However after about a month we got caught up in a nasty storm. Barker and his accomplices must have beat the storm by a day.

The storm was nasty. Powerful winds forced the sails to have to be put down, and nasty waves rocked the boat hard, slowing us down considerably. Damned storm snapped the mast forcing us to hide in the cabins. The boat took some damage before the storm subsided. The ground us to a halt for about a week. When everything was said and done we were about three weeks behind the assholes.

The more time we lose, the better chances of escaping they have. But I won't let that happen, I'd capture the barber even if I have to knock him out cold myself and drag the bastard back. He would pay for what he had done. He'll pay for killing the judge.

(Lucy's POV.) I was glad that Mr Todd, now Mr Marcus, had got me off the streets. Now we were apparently in Germany to hide from the judge I think. He had told me I could sleep when I want, but he was pacing as if he couldn't sleep. After a while I finally closed my eyes, and tried to sleep. Eventually I heard him lay down, and I hoped he would get some sleep.

I opened my eyes and I was not in the room. I'm in London again. It can't be, was I dreaming that I was off the streets. I was back, back with the world where I had to beg for food, where I'd have to give myself to lecherous men just to avoid starving. (Sweeney's POV.) I had woken up with a start.

Whenever I managed to sleep I'd often dream about being worked to near death and whipped, or getting dragged away from my family. Tonight however I didn't really dream at all. I slept on the floor, as I did not want to lay in bed with Lucy yet until she remembered. I sighed and stood up, running my hand through my hair. Once we found where to live and completely settled down, I could devote time I wasn't working to trying to help my wife. At Least she seemed to be getting enough sleep.

I looked over to see the door was half open. I walked over and closed the door confused. I turned back to the bed. I had a bad feeling in my stomach. I walked over to the bed and pulled back the covers to see Lucy was gone. Lucy was gone, something happened, something was wrong.

Anthony's and Johanna's room were locked so she could not be in there. I walked through the halls looking for her, and headed down to the front room. She was not there either. She was out in the streets. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I would NOT lose her again, I had just gotten her back and I will find her.

I rushed out into the streets. I didn't know where in Brake she could be. Would if she got hurt, what if a piece of filth harms her, or forces themselves on her. I still had my razors on me, but killing someone could undo what we were working on. I could worry about my bloodlust later, first I need to focus on finding my darling. I needed to calm down and think.

I saw a man walking down the street in front of me. As much as I despised talking to other people I loved Lucy more. I walked up to the man and called out to him. "Hello sir" He responded. "Did you see a woman with yellow hair walk by here?" "I couldn't make out her hair, but I saw a woman walking toward the docs.

I called out to her, but she didn't seem to hear me." I nodded at the man and began to sprint toward the docs. I wish you were in your right mind Lucy. I need to find her and bring her home. I will die before I lose my wife all over again. As I approached the doc I could see a figure coming into view.

I could only hope that this was her. The figure got bigger as I got closer to it. It was Lucy, and she apparently never took her dress off when she went to bed. I must have been so entranced pacing that I didn't notice. I could see her long yellow hair flowing behind her. Due to better standards of care we could give her a lot of her original beauty had returned, and I feared that if she ever returned completely there could be another Turpin.

She turned and saw me, and was crying. "Mr Todd, I thought I was in London again, and then I found myself having woken up here, and I couldn't remember where I was." "I am here Lucy. I think you were sleepwalking and dreaming." She ran forward and wrapped her arms around me and buried her head into my chest. I grabbed her chin and lifted her face to mine.

"We'll get you back to the hotel, everything is OK now." I walked her back to the hotel and to our room. I decided not to tell the others what happened that night. Once morning came we all met up at the hall with our luggage. "We need to ask if there are any nearby towns that have a decent English speaking populace." Johanna said.

When we had gone down to leave, the hotel owner told us that there were several villages about a three week carriage ride away to four week carriage ride depending on the village, that we could get by in. We decided to go to one in the middle, as to be harder to find if we were tracked. "That is a good idea Mr Marcus" Anthony told me. We walked down the street past the hotel down to a carriage driver that was recommended to us. First we had to exchange our money that Anthony had so we could actually afford things. "I'll take you all down to the villages and let you pick the one you want," the carriage driver told us.

So we set off to hopefully begin a new life, where I could help my Lucy, and finally heal the Barker family.

Note: I suck at finding real world locations on google so I'm leaving the town unnamed on purpose. I apologize to any potential German readers for this. So they are to get settled down, then I can work on the arc where Lucy recovers. There will be time skips to keep the story from taking longer to finish then I intended. I'll have moments that cover Lovett and Robert as well.

Note 2: And of course I'll have to deal with Daniel eventually too. So another chapter is done then. Lucy's dreams will be a big contribution to her recovery so I figured it was important to introduce her sleepwalking in this chapter.
