Chapter 26: Welcome Home
Note: Here we are folks, the house will be finished this chapter and Sweeney and Lucy start dating, will it help her. What will Johanna think of this development? Also we will see what Daniel and his posse have been up to this chapter. The Lucy recovery arc is getting close to its conclusion. I know I didn't want it to close too fast but it has been months in the universe so let's see what happens.
(Sweeney's POV.) So for the next month and a half our home was built. Just like my slowly reconstructed relationship with Lucy, the house was constructed from the ground up. Johanna and Anthony were going closer as well, though I made sure Anthony stayed nervous around me. Johanna could not wait for the home to be complete. She seemed to hope normalcy would help Lucy and I hoped she would be right.
But the hope we had frightened me so much. As far as I was concerned, hope would always be crushed in this cold world. But I would not rest until Lucy had recovered, and I believed dating her again would be what could unlock her memories. First the first floor of the home was constructed. Lucy loved the living room as far as I could tell. I could almost feel my heart fluttering again at her returned beauty and charm.
And at long last, our two story home was complete. Next we needed to start getting furniture. For the next month, we slowly but surely filled our home with all the furniture, cooking supplies, and bedrooms we needed. Once one month had passed we were finally able to move into our new home in this small English speaking town in Germany. Everyone (except me) were absolutely thrilled to go. "It's good to finally have a real home," Johanna said.
"I had a house with Turpin, but it was no home." "I'm glad you no longer are trapped under his horrible thrawl" Anthony said. Lucy sighed, but otherwise stayed silent. "You are safe from bastards like him, I will never let a man like him near you again, my daughter." "I know you won't father, I know you won't." "Neither will I, Johanna, count on that," Anthony chimed in.
"Well why don't we go in, instead of standing around in front of the door" I said. Lucy slipped her hand in mine. "Let's go in then," she said. We walked into the living room. We placed our suitcases on the floor. "An actual home is superior to a hotel room," Anthony said.
"Almost anything is better than a hotel, but not the street," Lucy said. "It is a nice feeling ma'm" Anthony said. "Please just call me Lucy." "Of course Lucy, apologies." Lucy beamed at him at this. Our hands stayed firmly clasped together.
Johanna slipped her hand into Anthony's. "Mr Todd, could we go to the room you chose, just the two of us. There is something important I want to talk to you about. "Anything for you Lucy, anything you want," I answered. "Me and Johanna will just stay down here and talk." Fine with me hope, just be careful with her hmm."
"I will Mr Todd." Me in Lucy headed to the first room on the left of the stairs, the room that was mine. Lucy motioned to my bed. I nodded to her and we both walked over to and sat at the end of the bed. We already had our right hands intertwined, so she reached over and we gripped each other's left hands. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Yesterday I told you that I was falling in love with you. Well I think I have fallen completely in love with you, You took me off the streets, clothed me, and gave me a home. I can have food when I need it, and no longer have to sell myself for money to survive because of it." "I was happy too Lucy, and I feel a deep love for you as well" I admitted. If only she could remember the adoration I had for her, she and Johanna were the reasons I survived the hell of Botany Bay.
We both leaned forward. "Lucy, I swear I will help you remember more." Before I knew it we began kissing. I hadn't felt her kiss in so long. The last time I did so was the day our lives were ruined. I broke it off before it had gotten too heated.
"I'm not sure if I am ready to know it all yet." "I'll stay by your side Lucy." If anyone were to try to harm her again, I would kill them. I was willing to court Lucy all over again. We both returned to see Anthony and Johanna deep in conversation. I cleared my throat making them turn to me.
"I am going to court Lucy." Johanna cheered and threw her arms around me. "If I court her again, maybe it will help her truly remember me again," I whispered. "I hope it works father." "We'll have to see what happens." (Daniels POV.)
I can't believe that driver never came back, now me and my officers have to go town by town looking for that bastard barber. The driver never returned, so we were stuck having to go town to town. Apparently he was robbed and murdered, which was obnoxiously convenient. "This is taking too long," Jeremy growled. "I know but we have criminals to apprehend," Jason said. Me and my men were becoming restless.
Every time we thought we were closer, we found out that we were still far away. "He killed the judge. He was a good man and Barker killed him, and for that we can not rest until that bastard is in our grasp." "Don't worry sir, we are not about to quit," Jeremy said. "That's right we will get that bastard," said Jason. "I know we will men, I know," I told them.
Note: Next chapter will be some fluff between Lucy and Sweeney. It will not be filler, because something big will happen in the end. About another month will pass. We will also see Robert and Lovett planning their wedding as well. See yall next week.
