I do not own the Hunger Games.

Radiance Sterling, 17

Training was dull and straight forward. Swords, spears, foraging. Weapons and food. Both useful boons to have in the arena. Radiance clicked the final button on his identification quiz and left the table to make his way through the door. Interview scenes would be up next, though they'd have to wait for everyone to finish their training minigames. That could take some time if they had a number of newbies.

Sure enough, he found himself in the waiting hall. The game devs liked to do this rather than have some tributes end up ahead of others. Instead, they'd have them socialise. Some made further alliance arrangements. Others…

"Where are your clones, Sterling?" taunted Apollo Gilmore. "Are they really this far behind?"

"Nope. They're just making polite conversation. Something you wouldn't know about I suppose."

Gilmore wrinkled his nose. "You three losers are gonna lose all over again. I don't know why you keep putting yourselves through this."

"Didn't we crush you a few games ago?"

"Dumb luck. Why haven't you been able to do it again?"

"Maybe we're just waiting for our time."

Gilmore leant in against him. "Or maybe you're just weak."

Luminescence appeared behind him, clamping a hand down on his shoulder and spinning him round. "Back off and fuck off, Gilmore."

Gilmore only grinned. "I'll be seeing you."

Andreas Amandiel, 18

He needed to find an ally here. Otherwise his alliance would be last minute, and any allies made then might quickly turn on him. Which wasn't the way this was meant to go.

Andreas circled the hall, examining those gathered. Most had already formed little groups, having formed alliances already. He didn't want a big group, although perhaps two might be worth it, in case one went down in the bloodbath.

He dismissed the younger ones and approached a girl with rainbow coloured hair, who seemed to have just been turned down by a younger girl that went scurrying off to join a boy with vivid green hair.

"Are you looking for allies?" Andreas asked with an easy smile.

She planted her hands on her hips. "That depends. Are you asking?"

"Yes." He looked her over. "And you look like you're strong. Someone that can hold her own."

She laughed and flicked a strand of her obnoxiously bright hair. "You don't need to flatter me." She thrust her hand out. "I'm Sequinn."

He took the offered hand. "Andreas."

"It's very nice to make your acquaintance."

He looked about the hall and settled this time on an older boy with dark orange hair. "Would you mind taking a third ally?" He winked. "Just in case we need someone to throw to the flames, hey?"

Sequinn laughed. "I'm happy with that. You have someone in mind?"

He indicated the other boy. She turned towards him. "Let's go then, new ally."

A little… louder than he'd wanted. But maybe if he was lucky, she'd go down in the bloodbath and he could keep the boy as his ally.

Calpurnia Catallus, 16

It looked like she'd finished in the second half, with many of the other players having already finished and gathered in the waiting room. Sorcha waved her over to where she was talking with a pair of girls. Calpurnia darted between the other players to join them.

"This is Calpurnia," Sorcha said. "Where's the other one – ah, Macey–"

"Marcellina. She must still be in training. Your sister as well I guess."

Sorcha shrugged. "Yeah, but I thought Luminita would take a while. She's… like that."

"Huh. Well, who's this? Another ally?"

"Artemis Gilmore," said the girl as two boys came over to join them. They looked similar enough to her that they had to be siblings, though all three sported neon hair.

"There you two are!"

"Apollo was just picking a fight with Radiance Sterling," said one of them.

"Cool. Well, Summerfield, Calpurnia, I'll see you around."

Sorcha turned pink. "But I thought you wanted to ally?"

Artemis Gilmore flapped a hand. "I would sooner ally with Luminescence Sterling. At least his skills are real."

Sorcha's blush deepened to a vivid scarlet. "I won once!"

"And I've won twice. Is it a competition?"

"Isn't it?" asked Calpurnia.

Artemis grinned. "Have fun. Good luck!"

Sorcha spluttered as she watched them go. "Can you believe them?"

"Rude," Calpurnia agreed.
