Looking For Jack
"Thanks for agreeing to take the kids to the Dummi Bears concert, Charlotte," Didi said.
"Perfectly fine… its my turn to take the kids out." She paused as her phone rang. "One moment… Jonathan? Yes… no, you'll be perfectly fine without me. I trust you-"
Tommy, sitting in the backseat with Angelica and Chuckie, frowned before looking at his cousin. "Angelica, is the Dummi Bears Concern something big kids go to?"
"Of course it is, baldy!" she declared. "I'm going, aren't I?"
"Oh… yeah."
Angelica shot him a look. "Why do you care, anyway?"
Chuckie spoke up, "Tommy decided he doesn't want to be a baby anymore. He wants to grow up and be a big kid."
"Ha!" Angelica said with a laugh. "You? A big kid? Maybe when pigeons fly!"
"I can be a big kid!" Tommy declared.
"Yeah right! Look at you… if you looked up 'baby' in the frictionary there'd be a picture of you!"
"Really!?" Tommy asked, excited, only to realize that Angelica wasn't paying him a compliment. "Hey!"
"We could be big kids," Chuckie declared.
"Maybe you, Finster. You can drink out of cups and use the potty… heck, maybe even Phil and Lil can become big kids, assuming they actually stop goofing around with yucky bugs. But Tommy?" She glanced at her cousin. "Just look at him! With his bald baby head-" Tommy rubbed his scalp unconsciously "-and gummy mouth-" he covered his face with his hands, "-you even dress like a baby in that stupid onsie!" Tommy tugged on the outfit his mommy had put him in, another snappy shirt only this one had legs and sockies attached to it. "Face it Tommy, you are going to be a dinky little baby forever and ever and ever!"
"I will not!" Tommy shouted.
"Angelica, what's going on in there?" Charlotte called out.
"I think Tommy is getting fussy… you know, because he's a baby."
Tommy quickly snapped his jaw shut.
"Well he looks okay," Charlotte said, closing up the back on the car. "Come on, let's-" She stopped when she saw Spike stick his head up before sighing and moving to get the dog out of the car, never realizing that doing that meant that she just missed driving behind the olive oil truck, meaning the car never got a flat.
Something the kids would have been happy with, had they known about it. But they didn't and instead they enjoyed the concert…
…even if Tommy forced them to miss part of it because Charlotte had to take him for a diaper change in the middle of it, causing Angelica to merely glare at him while Tommy cringed on the changing table.
'I can be a big kid!' he thought even as Charlotte finished up and gave him a bottle. 'I will!'
He paused.
'I… just don't know how.'
