Angelica's Twin
"Oh no," Didi said with a sigh, seeing that while the babies were all picking out simple toys (and Tommy was actually picking something out for Dil, who cooed in delight as he played with his new purple Reptar plushie while Tommy delighted that he could have his OWN toy that was clearly not Dil's) Angelica had gone from a Cynthia yacht and a Cynthia Space Station. "I suppose I'm going to have to get her at least one of those… otherwise we might have a melt down. And I don't want to disappoint the other kids by not getting them something…"
Betty though smirked. "Leave it to me, Deed. Here's a trick my mom used with me and my brother." She walked over to Angelica, smiling as the little girl pushed both toys over. "What do you have there, Angelica?"
"Oh, the Cynthia luxary yacht and the Cynthia Space Station! I need BOTH of them so much Ms. Deville!"
"Well, they both look amazing. So lets add them to 'The List'."
"The… List?" Angelica said, confused.
"Of course!" Betty said, pulling a notebook from her pocket. "You wouldn't want to waste your one gift on something you aren't 100% sure is the best toy ever, do you?"
"But these are the best toys ever!" Angelica argued.
But Betty merely smiled at that. "But what if they put out a better one?"
Angelica considered that. That had happened with her Cynthia ER Playset… the new one came with a defibulator and she'd been so upset that she didn't have that. But her mommy and daddy had refused to buy her a new one just for the defibulator. Mostly because Angelica didn't know what that was.
"So what we do is we add it to The List. That way you remember to ask Santa for it or for your birthday or the next time we do a gift. I can't believe your mommy and daddy didn't tell you!"
"Oh!" Angelica said. She wasn't happy she wasn't able to get the toys… but it made sense to do that. "But what about for today?"
"Well, is there something you KNOW would work good with Cynthia? Maybe some dresses so you can get her a bunch of them?"
Angelica considered that before going to look at some cheaper accessories while Betty walked over to Didi who was watching with an amused smile even as Tommy showed her the new Queen Somtha doll he wanted to get. "Wow… that was amazing. But what do we do when she asks for it next time?"
"You assume she'll remember," Betty said with a laugh. "Trust me, next time we come it will be some new thing. And if she does remember then we know she really DOES want it and can make it a birthday gift."
Didi let out a whistle before gathering up the kids, all the kids cuddling their new toys.
