Hey guys!
Ok so reminder my break starts now, just gonna relax recharge my batteries and then start writing again.
I hope you can enjoy this chapter and look forward to more when I'm back.
Sins of the Branwens
Moments passed when Vernal relayed the information, Kron had widened eyes and his jaw was lowered.
He shook his head to get out of his stupor.
"Raven Branwen, has a daughter?"
For some reason, Kron couldn't believe it.
Vernal smirked and nodded.
"Trust me, I was shocked too, I thought it was some lie but after further digging, we know for sure she has a daughter out there."
She does want to never have to run into him again. All the evidence shows that she doesn't want to deal with him or Raven anymore. But there were just some things that didn't add up.
"Even if it's true that she has a kid." Kron began eyeing his fellow former apprentice with suspicion. "How do you know if it's a daughter but not her name? That makes no sense."
He squeezed his fists a subtle sign that he was ready to beat someone who he believes is tricking him.
And Vernal saw it but showed no fear of this and replied.
"During the last year before Raven woke up from her coma when we decided it was best to cut ties with her, and knew the consequences of killing her, we had looked for anything we could to use as leverage to get rid of her. Without killing her and dealing with you."
They lost a lot of scouts during that time. Many searches for contacts Raven had collected during her time in the tribe and at Ozpin's side. All of them were hard to find and had great protection.
"First, we tried investigating Beacon where she attended years before she'd become chief. But we couldn't find anything about her friends, her team, anything. Records were doctored, no doubt something she arranged for that to keep the identity of whoever the father is and her private life."
Kron kept quiet. For all her faults Raven is a careful planner always doing what she can to keep any weakness secret so that made sense so far.
Vernal continued.
"After a while of finding several contacts, we found, captured, and interrogated someone who was involved with changing Raven's records, eventually he revealed that she had a daughter with someone from Beacon Academy."
The Saiyan looked as though he was getting convinced.
"Ok, so he knew that Raven had a daughter, but why did he not know she had a name?"
Vernal looked annoyed not at Kron but at a memory.
"He probably did, but he bit his own tongue off before we could 'convince' him to tell us more."
Kron looked confused at that. Someone killed themselves just so Raven can keep her secret.
"Why? Surely, he would've just given you the name if there's a chance, you'd let him go. Was he more of a bootlicker than you?"
She chuckled.
"Some people would rather die than have to deal with Raven, he probably thought he'd die either way, but Raven would do far worse to him than what we did."
As much as cowardice disgusts Kron even he could understand that. There was a time when even he was terrified of Raven. And whoever they interrogated was likely a non-fighter if all they did was change records. So again he sees fewer flaws in her tale.
Vernal continued to finish the story.
"When we found that out we wanted to find the name of her daughter, use her as leverage to get her to leave, but after we found the informant the others scattered and it wasn't worth the effort to find anyone else that might've known. Plus, I doubt all of them know about Raven's daughter at all, she likely made sure only a rare trusted few would know."
The new tribe leader then pointed at the screen.
"That's when we decided to resort to recording her using her true power that she so badly wanted to be kept secret." It was a shame too, they lost even more members when they forced her to use her ability.
Kron took in all this information and again thought of any possible holes in them to insure she wasn't lying.
It made Vernal break a sweat knowing that it's up to his judgment whether she and her tribe live.
He made his choice.
"Fine, I believe you," Kron said thinking of all the trouble this tribe had to go through to find out about her existence. "But I beat her brother not too long ago, she didn't show up for him, how do we know she'll show up if I beat up her kid?"
The short-haired woman was ready for this.
"Do you remember when we were younger and Raven would leave for errands and have me watch you make sure you didn't do anything stupid?"
Kron growled hearing that he remembered how Raven would know if he did anything like leave the camp without permission or beat up other tribe members as training. So annoying how Vernal was 'in charge' of him.
"Yeah, what about it?"
"Originally we thought she was talking with any contacts she had, but we have a different theory." She smirked. "We believe that she's been seeing her since nothing much came out of these 'errands' she went on, she would always say she was gathering info."
The Saiyan heard this and thought of these errands. If that were true then she has some attachment to her brat.
"Alright, that's possible."
Vernal breathed easy for a second but panicked slightly at his next statement.
"Still, it's hardly a lead if you can't give the girl's name or whoever the father is. What am I supposed to do, go after every girl that remotely looks like Raven until she decides to portal to them?"
The short-haired woman shook her head.
"You still get to have Raven's semblance canceled once my subordinate gets here, and being undetected by her is what you want right?"
Kron growled, she was right though. That was something he couldn't pass up. It was his best chance to ever get to Raven.
"And " Vernal continued. "Though we don't have a name we have a suspect."
The Saiyan rose an eyebrow.
"This past year there's been a young woman about your age running around with a photo of Raven, asking where she is," Vernal explained. "She has long yellow hair and wears a brown short sleeve jacket. She's been talking to all sorts of people in Vale."
"Blonde hair?" Krona asked. "If that is her, it must be from the father."
Ugh, all this trouble just to get an old hag's attention.
He also didn't know for sure if this mystery girl is Raven's daughter.
"But if that's true why hasn't she seen her over the past two years?" Kron asked thinking he found another hole in Vernal's year.
"Maybe it's because of fear we'd find her or maybe of you," Vernal replied. "And if it is her daughter maybe she's wondering why she hasn't seen her during her coma. She'll likely attend Beacon Academy to see if she can find any clues to her whereabouts. Which is going to start in a month,"
That didn't seem to satisfy the Saiyan but figured this couldn't be a lie with the video and reasoning. He didn't like the idea of waiting a month to find her at that school but at least it was something.
"Alright, guess I'll stay in Vale until I spot that girl," Kron said with an annoyed tone. It feels like another goose chase.
Vernal nodded.
"Now, my comrade with the Cancel semblance, he'll be here soon, so just wait until he shows, after that will you leave to take care of Raven?"
Kron chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah, your worst nightmare will leave your pathetic tribe intact." He glanced at the tribe members around them as if daring them to argue with what he said.
No one did, they just took a step back terrified of him.
Vernal grit her teeth at how easily he spread fear to them.
"Now then since we have some time. " Kron began as he turned to his fellow student. "Tell me Raven's power, what exactly is it?"
She sighed and decided to explain what Raven told her of this power.
"Raven is what you call a Maiden." She began explaining the mysterious power Kron did not understand.
Beacon Academy
Qrow walked into Ozpin's office.
"Oz"
The Headmaster smiled at his subordinate.
"Qrow, glad to see you again."
When he took a whiff he could still smell some booze on him, that's a problem.
Qrow glanced around expecting to see someone else. "Where's Glynda?"
"She's investigating Raven's whereabouts."
The man squeezed his fists and sighed.
"Anything?"
"Not yet."
Qrow stared out the window imagining his traitorous sister.
"It's Raven, she isn't so easily found."
Didn't know it. He hasn't seen her in eight years. He wondered if she was raiding another village right now with the rest of those bastards.
He should've let Tai wipe out that damned tribe when he had the chance.
"Now" The former bandit sighed. "I'm ready to start come on."
The headmaster frowned at that.
"Qrow, I asked you to go through a week of minimal alcohol, I seem to still smell it on you."
"I did"
This made the Headmaster have a puzzled look.
"Look, I've cut back alright? You can't just expect me to give up booze in a week."
Ozpin shook his head.
"Which is why I asked you to minimize it, not give it up."
Thought it would've been better if he did quit cold turkey but Ozpin knew that was being unrealistic.
"Oz" Qrow said in a rare begging tone. "Look, I'll do better just at least give me a taste of what it's like, alright? I meant it when I said I'll do anything to stop Raven, the kid, and Salem."
Ozpin sighed as he stood up from his chair and turned to press his hand on the wall.
"Very well"
The headmaster then walked forward as the wall behind his desk opened.
Qrow followed behind and fought the urge to get his flask. He had a hard time limiting himself after finding out what Raven did but he wasn't going to take what little sobriety he's got left.
Once the duo reached the end of the hall that Ozpin had made for the past seven years they came before a glowing door. A vault, similar to where he put the Relic of Knowledge. But yet drastically different.
"Here we are." He said to his subordinate.
"The Void Vault," Qrow replied and stretched one arm over the other. "You said this room can make someone as strong as a Maiden?"
Ozpin heard the eagerness in his voice and spoke with caution.
"Only if you can withstand it long enough, very few do. And you remember what happened the last time I tried this?"
Qrow could tell that the headmaster was trying to talk him out of it. He remembered the warning he gave him. There was a reason he didn't want to use this. But with all the craziness that happened. Salem's men have been causing those dried-up corpses, the Scourge of Anima running around beating huntsman and making Jimmy's men and a Maiden look like a joke. And the one that made him the angriest. Raven had betrayed them and taken the Spring Maiden's power for her own planning gods know what.
She needed to be stopped before the Scourge can get to her. They wouldn't want to waste time finding the Spring Maiden again.
"I got it Oz."
Ozpin noted that he took a bit responding which was good, it meant he was thinking.
"Do you need a reminder of what you'll be facing?"
Qrow sighed from what he was told it was going to be hell in there.
"No, besides your gonna guide me right?"
The ancient one was surprised to hear him say that, Qrow was always confident in his abilities and never asked for backup. But hearing that put him at ease it showed that he took his warnings seriously.
"Yes, we'll start when you're ready."
The former Branwen pulled out his most prized possession with one hand on the lid but closed his eyes and shook his head.
"Here, hold this."
Ozpin nodded and took his flask.
Qrow took a deep sigh for what was to come.
"Open her up."
The Headmaster put a hand at the base of the glowing door.
As expected it opened.
"Remember, I'll pull you out if it's too much."
Qrow nodded and walked into the Void Vault.
And as he did Qrow saw nothing, nothing but darkness all around.
He rose his hand in front of his face and couldn't see it.
"Wow, you weren't kidding Oz, I really can't see anything."
Ozpin's voice spoke throughout the void.
"Be ready it's about to start."
Right as Ozpin had said that Qrow felt intense pain coming from his right arm out of nowhere.
Qrow's eyes widened and he grunted while holding his arm, it was like many nevermore feathers pierced his arm.
"Remember, focus your Aura, you have to concentrate it on the part of the body you feel the pain."
"I know!" He yelled clearly shocked by the pain as he did so, the pain in his right arm was numbing.
"Be ready the pain will show at random parts of the body and u have to focus your aura on those spots."
Qrow didn't yell at him, he explained this already, but he knew that he was just trying to help him ease into the Vault.
Just then Qrow was struck from behind and knocked across the ground.
The former bandit growled as he got up and faced what hit him, and he was surprised to see someone in this room.
It was him. Another Qrow Branwen with Harbinger out.
"Already gotta deal with my double huh?"
He rose his sword to block a swipe from the other Qrow.
And the real Qrow was pushed back.
The other Qrow seemed stronger but that wasn't the case.
The real Qrow had to focus his Aura on different spots on the body limiting his strength and forcing him to fight his literal equal with a handicap.
The double ran towards the real one.
With no other option, the real Qrow started evading the swipes of his clone until he can come up with a way to strike.
Just then his right leg was suffering severe pain.
It made him trip and fall on his back, he tried to focus his aura on his right leg.
Just before he could his double jumped and swiped down.
Qrow rolled away as it struck down where he was.
The huntsman focused his Aura on his right leg to numb the pain.
Then his double took a swipe and he swayed it and kicked with his Aura where he focused his Aura.
With all the Aura concentrated into it caused quite an impact on his counterpart's abdomen.
It forced the double to keel over in pain.
Qrow pulled back his leg.
Once he did the room changed and he felt pain from his leg into his left arm.
The Huntsman smirked and grabbed Harbinger with his left and thrust his blade into his double's abdomen.
His double's mouth was open as if in pain.
Even the veteran huntsman couldn't help but flinch. It was hard watching himself in pain.
After that, the double faded.
"Very good start, be focused, your next opponent will not be just a copy of you," Ozpin told him. "Remember you'll be to see your next opponent coming easier if you focus your Aura outward."
Qrow groaned as he looked at his right arm that he was concentrating his Aura on to dull the pain the room was causing.
"Kinda hard when I have to focus my Aura into where the room decides to cause pain Oz."
"That's the point, multitasking your Aura will force it to grow."
Of course, it is.
Qrow closed his eyes and focused some of his Aura out of his body while at the same time using a majority of it on his arm to dull the pain.
Hopefully, he won't be surprised to attack again.
If it isn't him it will be from someone he's fought before. Wonder who it could be.
He felt something, someone was coming from his right.
Qrow turned and rose Harbinger to block an incoming strike.
He glared at the individual.
It was a woman with eyes as red as his and black long hair.
This time it was a copy of his sister Raven.
"Was wondering when you'd show." He said to the silent copy. "This'll be therapy."
The room not only makes you fight your double but anyone you fought in your past.
"Remember, she's not the real thing, remember to focus your Aura and the fight."
Qrow said nothing and only nodded as he kept most of his Aura in his left arm.
'Raven' only had a neutral expression as she pulled back her sword.
The huntsman pressed a button while taking a downward swing turning Harbinger into it's scythe form as he swung it down.
His 'sister' rose Omen to block the scythe, she then pulled with her blade to get Qrow closer.
Qrow let go of his weapon to duck as Raven made for a swipe then he felt pain in his chest.
He grimaced as he tried to focus his Aura on the area.
But 'Raven' stopped him and slashed upward with Omen using a Fire Dust blade.
This slashed up across his shirt leaving a burned slash on his stomach.
"Damn it!"
Qrow jumped back as she tried to slash down on his head.
He quickly grabbed Harbinger and rose it while focusing the majority of his Aura in his chest. Now he had to focus on defense until he focus his Aura somewhere he can use offense.
He rose Harbinger to block a strike.
'Raven' then tried to strike all over his body but Qrow was able to parry most of them, whenever they did he tried to make sure the blows only landed on his chest where he had to focus the majority of his Aura.
The copy of his traitorous sister then put sheathed her blade while jumping back and pulled out an Ice Dust blade. She was trying to get restrain Qrow so he couldn't defend himself.
"Tch, always hated how tricky Omen was to fight."
'Raven' struck again though this time Qrow chose to focus on evasion.
Once he got back he aimed Harbinger and pressed a button to shoot several Fire Dust bullets.
The copy of his sister stabbed the ground to create an Ice wall that took the bullets but melted.
'Raven' then jumped and tried to pierce her 'brother' through the arm.
Qrow smirked as he felt pain in his right arm.
Perfect.
With focus, he had his Aura into his sword arm and swung with all his might.
This across 'Raven's stomach made her roll back, and she tried to stand up.
But Qrow was already in front and struck her head with the palm of Harbinger.
'Raven' seemed to have had enough and vanished.
Qrow couldn't help but note how he couldn't finish this copy with a slash. Even after what she's done he still couldn't imagine killing her. Even though she was willing to offer the scourge her head.
He wondered if she felt the same.
If only she could lose that easy in real life.
The huntsman then fell onto his knee not from being exhausted but because he felt pressure on his body.
"Gr, so I guess now the gravity's kicking in?"
Ozpin responded.
"Yes Qrow, the room is increasing your weight, it will increase as time goes on."
"Tch, so I gotta focus my Aura into specific areas, at the same time use it to sense what's around me, fight people I've fought before and deal with increased gravity."
The huntsman stood up withstanding the weight.
"Fine, if that's what it takes."
He needs to get stronger if he ever wants to knock sense into that damned sister of his.
"I think you've done enough let's end it here."
"No way, I can take it."
"Qrow, I worry the final effect might be too much for you."
The stubborn huntsman shook his head.
"No way, I'm sticking to this till the end."
Ozpin said nothing as if trying to find a way to talk him out of it but came up with nothing.
Qrow now dealing with 2x gravity, focused the majority of his Aura into his right arm, and now focused a decent amount of it around himself to look for his next opponent.
Who else is he fighting? Tyrian? Hazel? Or worse the kid? He'd probably die if the room was accurate enough.
He remembered the beating he got from him and worse he knew that he wasn't trying. Especially if he beat a Maiden at nine years old.
Just then he felt something coming to his left.
This felt familiar, kinda like his sister.
He opened his eyes like he awoke from a nightmare and instead of blocking as he did with 'Raven' he jumped back and aimed Harbinger at his next opponent.
It was a man as tall as him.
He had short black hair with thrills at the top that looked similar to the hair on Qrow's forehead.
Eyes as red as his.
He wore a black fur cape, red gauntlets like Raven's, and a red chest plate to match.
Black pants and red armored boots.
His weapon was a double blade that was almost as tall as his whole body with the hilt in the middle. He called it Long Talon.
This was someone Qrow may have hated more than his sister.
Corvus Branwen.
His father.
The huntsman took steps back and glared at the sight of him.
"Qrow, this is enough let's-"
The man ignored as he charged forward with Harbinger in his right.
'Corvus' swung his double blade up to block the sword with one blade.
Qrow struggled as he was pushed back, the extra gravity made it difficult to defend.
'Corvus' then put his other hand at Long Talon's grip and pressed a button separating the bottom blade from the top.
The huntsman pulled back as 'Corvus' swiped.
But his 'father' ran forward, slid and kicked Qrow's foot making him fall forward into the ground.
Then 'Corvus' struck one of Long Talon's halves aimed at his back.
Qrow rolled out of the way and jumped back as the blade hit the ground.
Then once he got his footing again something happened the room began to change.
It looked as though the two combatants were out in the real world at night.
It was a burning village with screaming people.
Qrow recognized the place, he looked horrified.
Ixora Village.
His first raid.
He glanced to the left to see another Corvus standing and wearing the Branwen Helm when he was chief.
Behind him were two nine-year-olds.
Himself with a regular long sword.
And his sister Raven with a normal katana.
They were aiming their weapons at the women and children.
Qrow remembered this all too well, he couldn't even focus on the other Corvus he was fighting.
The second copy of his father was standing in front of a group of huntsmen intending to kill him to defend their village.
So Corvus used a tactic that his tribe favored back when he was in charge.
"Take one, show them why they should surrender."
The illusion said to his children.
Every time Corvus was cornered he had his men kidnap the women and children. To get them to know they were willing to kill them he would have one of the children executed. This day it was Qrow's and Raven's first raid so he had them do it and wanted the opportunity to have them get their first kill.
"Qrow, listen, none of this is real, the Vault is testing your resolve, ignore the vision and focus on your opponent."
Qrow watched as the young illusion of his sister hesitated. She shook while holding her sword. She didn't want to do it.
"Qrow? Qrow!"
And he sees his younger self raise a weapon over a crying child younger than he was. He wasn't reluctant like his sister on this day.
Qrow couldn't take it.
"No!"
Even if it wasn't real, he wanted to stop the scene he's dreamed of thousands of times.
While the copy of his father he was fighting ran with his sword ready to stab his back.
"That's enough!"
At the sound of Ozpin's voice, the illusion shattered and Qrow felt himself being pulled.
Qrow was now out of the room.
Ozpin held him by the shoulder and took him to a chair where the huntsman was hyperventilating. With a slash on his chest from fighting the double of his sister.
The ancient man looked at his subordinate.
"Qrow! Are you alright?"
The drunkard said nothing as he grabbed his mouth, he looked as though he was about to vomit from the stress that room had caused him.
"That vision! What the fuck is the point of that!" He yelled as he stood up but was in pain from the Void Vault's effects.
"I told you, to increase your Aura's ability to grow, you must be willing to focus no matter what is happening or what you see" He explained. "To accept any regret."
Qrow normally would've yelled back but couldn't he kept thinking of that room repeating that damn memory.
He couldn't take it.
Qrow reached for his flask but couldn't, he turned to Ozpin and held his hand out.
"Qrow I think you need to sit down, this is-"
"Give me the flask!"
Ozpin sighed, he couldn't even do a day, not that he can blame him. Knowing that he was not in a state to be further angered he handed his flask.
He took it like his life depended on it and started marching out of the office as he was about to head out the door he glanced back at Ozpin with a rare guilty look.
"Oz, I, I'm sorry, I thought I could do it, I, I just I need to cool down a bit."
He then marched out of the room no doubt to be alone.
Ozpin watched as his most trusted man left and sighed.
Was this really the best a man who has existed for eons can do?
He looked at the Void Vault's entrance and glared.
Over the many millenniums of his war with Salem, this atrocity was one of his greatest regrets.
It was created at a desperate time when the Grimm Queen had three of the Maidens under her command. He had to create something to increase the huntsman's Aura to match a Maiden's power.
It causes random pain in one spot of the body to force you to focus your Aura while using your Aura to sense what is around you, then you fight a copy of yourself as well as copies of those you fought in the past. As you get used to the room it increases the gravity bit by bit. And finally, it makes you see visions of your past regrets or insecurities. It's meant to test how well you can focus in battle as well as your Aura.
Increasing one's Aura has always been a monumental task.
And even if it could increase there's always been a limit to how much. Few reach the level of Maiden and likely will not get stronger than that.
The first time he had tried to increase those on his side's power. It either murdered them or increased their power but drove them mad from the visions they had to relive.
He ended up destroying the first Void Vault and found help in the last remaining Maiden and helping her become Fully Realized to overcome the other three.
Perhaps he shouldn't use this, Void Vault.
He should consider dismantling it and finding another way.
He couldn't stand the idea of making Qrow into a madman.
Still, he should find out what Raven and Salem are planning before he decides.
Till then he shouldn't allow anyone else into the Vault.
He prayed that Qrow would be ok, he'll check on him after he's been given some time.
Anima
After Vernal had explained Raven's power the Saiyan had a confused look.
"So Maidens, there's only four of them huh?" Interesting what were the chances he'd meet two of them? "Is there any difference between these four Maidens, though?"
The Branwen Chief shook her head.
"Each Maiden is capable of wielding any element regardless of their season."
Kron remembered his battle with Raven the Spring Maiden, she wielded lighting, fire, and ice. And Winter was able to wield the same though she used mostly Ice. She's not the Winter Maiden, is she? That'd be too dumb.
"To get this power seems kinda lame." He said. "It's given to you rather than earned, though I guess they had it handed to them without much choice, though I question who'd want to give the hag her power."
Vernal chuckled slightly.
"You've seen firsthand how manipulative she can be, it wasn't hard to get the previous Maiden to be loyal to her, when she died Raven was the last one she thought of."
Right. That made sense.
"Tell me, did she kill the predecessor herself?"
"No, I did, she tasked me with sniping her while they talked."
The Saiyan didn't seem surprised.
"The backstabbing never ends with her does it?"
Not exactly non-saiyan like but at least his kind would have the guts to do it themselves.
Feeling that he was being civil Vernal decided to try to get some info.
"You don't seem surprised at the idea of magic."
"Eh, I've heard a thing or two of magic users, out there."
That was true though not on Remnant. Whenever his mother got drunk she would describe her mission at least a little.
There was this one he remembered her talking of a planet called 'Nirn' filled to the brim with magic users and weapon wielders. Not even at level 1 technology There were at least ten different races living on that planet. Sadly she didn't say too much else about them as she was busy wiping out the inhabitants.
How he wish he could've seen that planet, the little she remembered made it sound interesting.
"Is what you wield not magic then?"
Kron looked at her strangely wondering why she acted like she knew that it wasn't a semblance. He chuckled.
"Of course, you'd know, Raven told me she knew my ability doesn't come from Aura, and her bootlicker at the time had to know." He said remembering how she explained she knew he lacked Aura or a Semblance. "No, it's a skill that any can learn, and not one I will teach you or anyone here."
Vernal nodded not even disappointed, she was just curious about what this power was. At least now she knows it's not magic, maybe she can find someone with this ability willing to teach her.
"Although" He put a hand on his chin and smirked evilly. "That woman you wanted gone Sepia, I think I'd be fine teaching her."
The Branwen Tribe chief squeezed her fists and tried to keep her cool. She didn't think he would but if Sepia was armed with this power as well as her semblance she'd likely annihilate them all with enough time.
"Yeah, I'd say after a month she'd probably be more than able to wipe out your tribe with my power." He said laughing at the thought, it'd be hilarious considering he originally thought she was a Ki user when they started fighting.
"Don't worry though, she's not interested in learning from me."
Vernal eased up hearing that hoping he wasn't lying.
Kron fought not to frown at why. Thinking back at what he'd done soured his mood a little but he refused to show anything to the new Chief.
Not long after their conversation a skinny man with limerick-colored hair arrived.
He looked nervously at the unmasked Scourge of Anima scared for his life.
"Ma'am, is, is this him?" He asked clearly not wanting to be here.
"Yes, now do your thing Rick and he will leave us be."
With a gulp, the skinny man walked towards Kron and slowly put a hand on his shoulder.
Kron glared, silently reminding him of what will happen if he can't do what was promised.
Rick gulped and closed his eyes.
Rick's Semblance: Cancel: He's able to cancel any semblance effects no matter how long ago they took effect.
A green-yellow light covered Kron's body and his eyes widened.
Then he glowed red, after a few moments it seemed to have flickered away.
Rick stepped back from him out of fear and watched him.
"All done, sir."
Kron said nothing but only looked at his hands for a few seconds, he frowned as he closed his hands as if trying to feel something. He looked over to Rick and Vernal.
"I don't feel any different." He said annoyed.
"Did you feel anything when Raven bonded Kindred Link with you?"
Kron thought about it and sighed. He didn't he suppose that it was possible that Cancel worked the same way.
Still what if it didn't work?
Far away on an island out of Anima.
A woman with long black hair dressed in red and black was walking while holding a piece of paper.
Raven scowled, she went through a lot of trouble to find this map in one of Ozpin's ancient hideouts. She prayed that it'd be worth it.
She looked at a boulder and then at her map.
Her eyes glowed a red flaming light and she fired lightning at it.
The boulder was reduced to pieces.
And behind where the boulder once was is a pathway to some sort of underground structure.
Good, she was following the map right.
Raven's eyes stopped glowing and she started walking down.
Just then something happened, she felt a familiar tingling throughout her body.
A feeling she hasn't felt since Summer's death.
Raven's eyes widened as she tried to focus on her links.
Her heart was at ease when she felt Yang, Taiyang, and even Qrow. Good, they're all alive. While she did cut ties with them she couldn't bring herself not to worry for their safety even if she was willing to allow Kron to kill Qrow. He did make his choice to go after him.
Then she tried to feel her last remaining link.
Kron.
Nothing, she felt nothing.
Both relief and regret filled her heart. Relief for no longer having to fear him and regret for all she did to drive him to want to kill her. If she could go back and do her best to properly turn Kron into a true Branwen. How she wished she could turn back time and stop herself from that horrible plan.
But she shook her head and smirked.
No. Kron isn't dead, she knows that.
That boy is not so easy to kill, he was simply too strong and she trained him personally.
Vernal's link vanished a year after she was kicked out of the tribe.
And though she believed the tribe wouldn't last without her she taught Vernal better than to drive it into the ground in the first year.
Vernal had to have found someone that can undo semblances, and now she made a deal with Kron. No doubt in exchange to spare her tribe.
"Well played Vernal."
She sighed, now both her apprentices want her dead. Perhaps it was a good thing she left Tai and Yang after all. With all the cover-ups she did, they couldn't be traced to her.
Raven kept walking forward into the ancient hall.
If this shrine Ozpin wanted to be kept secret so badly worked as described, then she should be able to increase her power.
Perhaps enough to bring down Salem.
And Kron will have the final battle he desired.
Even if it will be his last.
Back in Anima
Kron sighed with a bitter look.
"Fine, I guess I'll take your word for it."
Many in the tribe were relieved.
"Now will you leave?" Vernal wanted this over.
Kron chuckled and told her.
"Before I go, I want to know, Vernal, why did you betray Raven?"
Vernal eyed him and told him. As if it pained her to say it.
"Because she wasn't fit to lead, she was bringing us into one mess after another. I couldn't allow it to continue."
Now hopefully they can just get on with their business.
"No," Kron said stubbornly.
"What?"
"I want the full story." The Saiyan said as he sat in his chair. "You want me to leave and kill Raven, I will do it. But I'm not leaving this camp until I know."
Vernal was visibly annoyed by this
"Why so interested? You hate our tribe, don't you?"
Kron smiled at Raven's former subordinate.
"Of course, I do, but finding her is quite the task even if I find her daughter." He explained. "You know I love history, and I really want the full story of what made Vernal Bootlicker, turn traitor."
Vernal clenched her fists and glared at him. This wasn't the time.
She sighed knowing that being quiet wasn't going to get her anywhere. The sooner they finish the sooner she and her tribe never have to deal with Kron or Raven ever again.
"Fine, I'm not going to repeat so pay attention."
Kron sat forward with his fists under his chin with a smile.
"It started not long after your fight with Raven. I had to skim some of our raids to pay Dr. Turquoise to treat her, most of the tribe didn't take it well, so there was in fighting. There were those who wanted nothing to do with Raven and those who feared her retribution."
Vernal closed her eyes remembering how hard things were. The entire Branwen Tribe was killing each other, and she was barely keeping it together.
"One day I realized that Raven wasn't worth it, and I put a plan together that the whole tribe was happy with."
Raven was walking through a forest with Vernal and sees the familiar walls of a camp that her tribe usually set up.
She sighed at the sight, she almost thought Kron would've wiped them out in her absence.
Vernal walked up beside her.
"Come, the tribe is ready to see you again."
Raven looked at her and simply nodded and walked forward.
Vernal watched as her mentor walked towards the tribe and sighed.
This was it. It was time.
Once the duo made it back to the tribe Raven had expected to be accepted as their leader and protector.
But Vernal had other plans.
"Raven, just so you know there have been some changes while you were away."
Raven looked at her apprentice wondering why she was saying that now.
"And what would they be?"
She asked looking around the tribe to see all the faces. Some were familiar others were new. And they were a bit smaller in number than they used to be.
Some of them started surrounding her, glaring at her.
Raven glared back at them expecting them to back down. They didn't.
"You fools, what do you think you're doing?" Raven demanded. "Did you lot forget your Chief?"
"They didn't"
Raven turned to the sound of the voice not sure what to expect.
It was someone wearing the Branwen Helm or at least a copy of it since hers was taken by Kron. She looked at the clothes to see it was the same Vernal was wearing when she took her from Dr. Turquoise's care.
Raven didn't believe what she was seeing. She couldn't believe it.
Was she still in a coma? Was this a dream?
"They remember their new Chief," Vernal announced. "Your time as leader is over, the Branwen Tribe now serve me."
The older lady heard that and just stared at her for a few seconds.
"Vernal" Raven began. "What is this? What do you think you're doing?" She asked and brought her hand out waiting for something. Nothing happened after a few seconds as if she expected something to be handed to her. "Give that to me."
Vernal said nothing only stood her ground with her arms crossed.
With bared her teeth, she spoke. "Give. That. To. Me."
She really was shaken up to show emotion in this situation.
"The Branwen Helm is owned solely by the Chief of the tribe."
"Vernal!" Raven started stepping forward but then the members around her took out their weapons and aimed at her.
What is happening right now? Her own people? All these years protecting them, and it comes down to this?
"Raven Branwen" Vernal began. "Your foolish decisions have led to this tribe being nearly eradicated, we no longer recognize you as chief. You are to leave now or suffer."
Raven looked at Vernal and started chuckling.
"Vernal did you forget? The only way you can earn that helmet is to kill me." She stated and looked around at her fellow tribesman. "Are you all ok with your leader being weak? Unable to kill the previous Chief as tradition dictates?"
The other tribesman just pulled their weapons closer.
"We've told you your choices."
Raven eyed the group around her and glared at her ignoring the 'warriors' around her like they were ants.
"My body may not be at peak condition." Raven's eyes glowed a fearsome red flame from them. "But among you all, my power is still unrivaled."
She waved her hand as lightning struck from the sky and zapped the members around her.
All of them fell on their back, some are dead, and others were knocked out.
She stared at Vernal expecting her to comply.
The new Chief didn't she only stared not even holding her weapons.
"If you want to keep that helmet." Raven began. "Then you will get it by taking me down. Well, Vernal? Do you still say you are the leader of this tribe?"
Her protégé said nothing but she rose her hand and pointed behind the previous Chief.
"Repeat that for the camera behind you."
Raven looked surprised and slowly turned her head.
There was a camera pointed at her, it had a red dot meaning it was recording.
She aimed a finger and lightning struck it destroying it.
"That won't do any good, the video was linked to a contact's scroll far away from here." She explained. "As well as several scrolls around the tribe."
Raven said nothing but turned back to Vernal, her eyes widened.
"What?"
Vernal continued.
"That contact is paid to broadcast the video online if I do not contact him every week." She explained. "Meaning everyone will see it. Everyone. Including Her."
Raven heard that and shook. She imagined a woman with white skin, white hair, black veins, and red eyes.
She remembered their last encounter and shivered.
"Vernal, what have you done?"
"Got my insurance." She replied coldly. "Now, as I said, leave or suffer."
Raven couldn't believe this. Kron, she understood, but her. Her first and most loyal apprentice is stabbing her in the back.
"Vernal, tell me, why? Why are you doing this?" She asked the fire in her eyes becoming erratic.
"Like I said," Vernal replied. "You are unfit to lead this tribe. You betrayed us. You refused to do what needed to be done."
Raven squeezed her fists wondering what to do. Was there anything she can do to reclaim her place?
"You, I have led this tribe for almost a decade! I am the strongest you can possibly get! I made this tribe strong! Without me you are weak! Everything I did was to increase the tribe's power. The strong live and the weak die!"
Vernal scoffed when she said that.
"You don't believe that, and you know it."
"What did you say?"
Vernal walked forward not at all afraid of the Spring Maiden.
She stood right in front of Raven, someone who can kill her at any moment.
"I did a lot of thinking over the past five years Raven, and you know what I realized?"
Raven said nothing only glaring into Vernal's helmet her fire glowing brighter than usual.
But this didn't show any fear from Vernal.
"I realized that you are full of shit!"
Raven showed no reaction to that.
"You claim to believe in that the strong live and weak die. But you don't! It's all a front to hide behind who you really are. You act like you're on top of the food chain, protecting your tribe, but you're actually cowering at the bottom using your tribe as meatshields!"
This got a twitch from Raven showing that she was being affected by what her ex protégé was saying.
"If you truly believed in the Branwen way, you would have killed Kron when you had the chance. But you didn't. Because you're so scared of Salem you will do anything for more power. Take any chance, any stupid risk, for more power, even if you don't know what that power is! You being in a coma was the result of your refusing to kill Kron! Our tribe's suffering to get by was the result of you not killing him!"
Raven lost her glare at that as if admitting she was right.
"I bought your bullshit for so long. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks of you as this warrior who believes in survival of the fittest. Clearly, they're blind to what a cowardly weakling you really are!"
Raven squeezed her fist, her eyes glowed even brighter flame.
"If that's the case if you really see me as a threat, and you believe in our ways then why didn't you kill me when you had the chance? How is that any different? "
She was in a coma for five years, and she didn't take her chance to kill her.
"Because unlike you I know what chances not to take. I know that if we killed you, Kron would come for us instead. He'd make us pay for robbing him of his kill."
That made Raven's flame go down, her eyes showing very little glow.
"You need me."
It sounded like she was desperate to try to get her to believe that.
Vernal rose a hand and activated her semblance.
An Aura Slash went across Raven's cheek, drawing a little blood only to heal due to her Aura.
"You have a semblance now." She realized.
"Yes, and I got it when you weren't around." Her former protege said matter of factly. "That means I needed you, gone."
Raven just stood there quite unsure of how to react.
Vernal then raised her arms side to side leaving her open.
"If you truly believe in survival of the fittest, then you'll kill me and take whatever Salem has to throw at you." She said to her mentor. "If not, leave, and try your best to hide from Kron."
Raven stared at her apprentice. She was so different from before. She was her right hand, she did everything as she was told. But now? Now she was at her mercy. She glanced around to see if any of the tribe still supported her and will reveal that they can get that video from Vernal's contact with that footage.
None did.
She gave up so much for this.
A little baby girl came to her mind.
She gave up being a mother for this.
Why?
Raven knew that she couldn't handle the pressure of being chased by Kron and Salem at once.
She vanished with her enhanced speed being a Maiden.
Vernal was almost bewildered at her speed, it looked like she teleported.
But no, she just did what she was best at.
Running away from her own problems.
Once she was gone the tribe celebrated.
"So, there you have it." Vernal finished.
"Satisfied?" She asked.
Kron looked at her for a few seconds and chuckled. It got louder and louder until it grew into a laugh. "Hahahahaha!"
"Wow, that was way better than I thought it would be!" He kept laughing. "You know what she told me while she was trying to kill me? 'I'll do what I must for my family', Hahaha, I can't believe it! All that and look where it got her!"
Vernal said nothing while just crossing her arms.
"Kicked out and dethroned by her own bootlicker! I wish I could've seen it!" He said still laughing. "So, your semblance, Sever, it must've manifested when you decided to sever your loyalty to Raven. Am I right?"
The short-haired girl sighed and wanted to finish this meeting soon. She nodded her head.
"I guess she held you back. Looks like you finally grew a backbone and now are walking your own path, just as I am." He said smiling. "I almost like you."
Vernal scoffed.
"You got everything you wanted, so? Will you leave?"
Kron smirked and stood up.
"A deal's a deal." The Saiyan responded. "Good luck with Sepia, she's very strong for weaklings like you, so watch out for her."
He chuckled wondering how many more tribe members she'll take down.
"Remember this you weaklings, if I find out any of this was a ruse, I'll be back to turn your tribe into a pool of blood, bones, and guts! Understand?"
Vernal eyed her tribe reacting in fear like Raven would and cursed. But she nodded knowing that he had all the power.
Kron smiled and put his mask back on then flew upward.
The leader of the Branwen Tribe turned to her people and glared at them.
All of them looked away as if her gaze slapped them all.
Raven or not, Kron was right. This tribe isn't what it used to be.
But at least they can finally move on from them and make this tribe into what it used to be.
Kron's Home
Kron had made it to his cave and home.
He took the damaged mask off and walked to where he displayed his trophies.
He focused on Raven's Branwen Helm.
"Hehehe" The Saiyan chuckled at it. "Oh Raven, how far you've fallen. The tribe this, the tribe that you fought so hard for, all that you did for them, and look what they did to you."
He laughed again trying to imagine how the confrontation between Raven and Vernal went.
"Your bootlicker stabbed you in the back, just like you did mine."
Rage filled him at the deceit she did to him with everything.
He squeezed his knuckles and frowned.
"But don't worry I'll put you out of your misery soon." He smirked. "I knew you had a brother but a daughter? I never would've guessed."
The daughter's probably as conniving and deceitful as her mother and uncle.
After being tricked by both Branwen's he'll know better than to trust them.
Just give her the beating for Raven to notice and she'll show up to save her. Not knowing that it was him.
"You think I'm dead right now don't you." He chuckled evilly. "Can't wait to see your face when you see me beat your daughter."
Then his revenge.
An epic battle that he's been looking forward to.
Just then a thought came to him and he turned to Winter's sword that he had placed next to Raven's helmet.
"Huh, but what if it'll only be like my fight with you Winter?"
That fight he had the most fun he had in a while, but it ended not the way he wanted.
When he found out she had the same power as Raven he thought he finally found an equal that can push him.
And that fight with Sepia. He also thought he found an equal when she tossed Ki at him. Only to find out that it was due to a Semblance.
"If only there were Ki users on this planet, it'd probably be fun."
He sighed and looked at Raven's helmet.
Whenever he dreamed of their fight it would be legendary. Two warriors one trained by the other fighting to the death. Not an easy fight, one where he could fight all out and see what Raven can do.
But if it's going to be like with Winter, then, it'd make for a boring fight. It'd make all the time he spent searching for her seem not so worth it. He wanted revenge but he also wanted a true fight where he didn't know the outcome.
Like his last battle with Raven where she was clearly stronger.
He scoffed.
"Whatever, it doesn't matter," Kron told himself. "Even fight or not, she still has to die. Find her brat in Vale and she should show up."
Still, that leaves the question.
After he kills Raven.
What else can he do?
The Saiyan looked at the sky above wondering how many opponents that are out there can challenge him.
He's evolved past Aura users and no Grimm can take him on now.
Perhaps after he's proven to surpass all of Remnant it'll be time to leave.
Not like there's much else this planet can offer him after Raven dies and after he learns the rest of this world's history.
He turned to his pod that he had stolen from his mother twelve years ago.
Yeah once he gets everything he wanted leaving would be for the best.
He thought of Sepia, how he took her husband.
And how he almost took Kali's husband and Blake's father.
When he leaves they'll never see him again, that'd definitely be for the best.
He sighed and shook his head.
When it's time to leave, where should he go?
That's a question for later.
Time to head to Vale.
"Long blonde hair and short-sleeved brown jacket." He said to himself remembering the description of this suspect.
He then walked out of his home and flew off.
Hopefully, the daughter won't be as hard to find as her mother.
So hope you guys liked the Void Vault. It's how 'theoritically' how a huntsman might scale up to a well trained Maiden.
Poor Qrow.
So I named Qrow and Raven's father Corvus cause Crows and Ravens belong in the Corvus genus, so I thought that was appropriate.
Also when do you think Kron will find Yang? Before or after team RWBY is formed?
Can't wait to show you when I'm back.
So about the break, you guys seem cool with it and I appreciate your patience. I'm not sure if this break will be as short as my last one but it will be nice to just enjoy doing other activities, not that I don't like writing, it's just y'know I try to write a rough draft a day until I find one I'm happy with and it's nice to get a break every now and then.
I'm not sure how long my break will be, just know that I will be back and continue this really long story until it's time for a hiatus.
Hope to see you guys when I'm back.
Review Responses
Guest: Your'e entitled to your opinion. I'll choose whoever I think will be the most fun IMO.
sevenkiller19: Thank you hope u can continue to enjoy in the future.
Guest: Yes, that doesn't guarantee Kron would win a one-on-one fight with her. I never said how much stronger he is than her. Also remember, soon plenty of characters will have upgrades. Maybe including Ozpin and Salem.
Glad you liked Light Guidance. Well, every semblance has a limit the only times they work on him are when he's holding back or get's careless as you see with Marrow.
It's in Kron's character to hold back now it's the only way he can have fun in a fight, anymore though it looks like he's getting tired of it now.
We will get into space stuff at some point I don't know if I'll put it in a second story though, , depends if everyone else wants that put in a separate story. Also, I do already have my own way to unite the RWBY and Dragon Ball worlds. It might not be what you expect but some of your ideas is planned for the future though.
Also not sure if it would be in Kron's character to take a job. He's all about freedom but maybe that can change we'll see.
epantoja521: Glad you liked Sepia. Well, There's a limit to how much she can absorb, the more she absorbs the more her Aura will drain. Maybe, we'll see how far Eclipse will come.
Guest: Lol, maybe. Yang loves to fight, solves most problems by punching them, and is really stubborn, and as an added bonus her theme song has Super Saiyan, so it's a no-brainer why u want that. It does make sense and can be fun to write, she's definitely a candidate for a pairing. As for Eclipse, well, let's see how he goes. I think you'll like him regardless.
Guest: That's a fair assumption. Guess it wouldn't make sense for Yang to be mad at Kron since Raven was the one who abandoned her and raised someone else. Though Kron likes to push people's buttons so we'll see.
Lelouch of Zero: Glad u liked the fight even if it was short. Ya, sadly there's no dragon balls to undo what he's done. Glad you find his development interesting though. The alliance between Tyrian and Kron was never gonna last. Maybe Kron would've helped if they told him their plan but, he absolutely despises both Raven and the Branwen Tribe, if he knew taking Sepia would benefit the tribe it might've ended the same way. That Yang assumption is fair, we'll see how she responds if they meet. And ya, the only reason Kron has to attend Beacon would be learning history, other than that he'd probably leave in like the first hour. No problem I just wanted to return the favor for you and everyone else who support the story.
ThatSaiyaGuy: Well a lot of shit happened. Vernal sees allowing Kron to kill Raven as the best option for herself and her tribe. I'm glad you liked the fight as well as the chapter itself. Eh I still say you were close enough, it's just light guidance might be more versatile.
Ya and now he seems to be bored with them not needing to give his all. That fight with Winter and Sepia might've stirred soemthing in him. He was so happy when he thought he found a Ki user.
It's funny that we say early on in the story even though were 30 chapters in lol. Who really knows. Hope you liked the Void Vault.
Well Vernal is trying not to be like Raven. Raven's problem is that she overreached. In this story she thought she could have Kron teach her how to use his power. Which is is like how in canon she thought that the Relic of Knowledge would protect her from Salem. But I'd be willing to bet that she didn't know what the Relic did, because it's kinda useless against Salem even if you know how to use it. She can't predict the future with it, so she can't ask how to avoid Salem. Raven always acted out of fear which made her cling to anything that has a chance to protect herself. Vernal noticed that, she wants to be a realist unlike Raven, and knew that the best way to save her tribe from Kron is to guide him to Raven hoping that will be enough to leave them be.
Also I think you'll like what Raven's found, it's not another Void Vault. Ozpin and Salem have been fighting for awhile right? Meaning they probably have a lot of leftover powerful tools lying around just waiting for someone to find them.
Well Kron has a description of this 'suspect' so that helps. Question is when will she find her, before or after Team RWBY.
Lol! I feel bad for Tyrian I let him get picked on in this story. Not that I hate him it's just his semblance is pretty useless on Kron. It drains Aura, but since Kron has Ki it's pretty useless to him. Poor bastard. Well who knows, Kron kicked him pretty hard. Thx I will hope u enjoyed this one.
Guest: Lol I thought I had a typo in my chapter but I see your talking to the guy below u. No, I looked up she doesn't. Unless I missed something.
anon9919: Thx. Glad u liked Kron's character development. And I wouldn't say your nitpicky, I kinda agree. I think I could've taken more time when he was a kid. I looked it up, I don't think Blake has any siblings. Does she? Well her semblance lets her control any light source, but the more light she takes in and the longer she stores it it drains her Aura and can possibly cause her to kill herself if she absorbs too much.
This is gonna be a long story. We're not getting into space stuff for awhile. And when we do, it might not be what u expect. Kron as well as others will probably have to have a few more years before their even remotely ready for space. Ok, so Kron's father Neab, there's a couple reasons how he got with Kron's mother. One is he was really good at entertaining, telling stories, party tricks and she wanted him around. Also sometimes when he annoyed her she would lightly hit him and he would try to fight back. She found that part endearing so the two got together had Kron and had a not so happy family life. Kron takes more from his father. Neab loved attention, enjoyed learning history and was always curious. What he got form his mother is her anger issue and cruelty. But ya, he took more from his dad.
Guest: Well he doesn't know where they live. But he knows what Yang looks like. Glad u enjoy Kron and your kinda right, Kron did set a lot of things in motion. Though it makes you wonder when will Kron get his wake up call?
Phineas J. Bitterman: Well he's got like a month before Beacon's first semester let's see if he finds her before them or not. Glad you're looking forward to more Eclipse.
Ruenion: Thank you, glad u liked it.
Sucks to be betrayed by your number 1 fan.
Well he's gonna hide out in Vale so, it's more likely JR's bar unless she's been there already.
sarmadsadiq95: I'm sure a lot of people do man. Yes she would, and I hope you enjoy the U Suck speech from Vernal until then.
TheJSmooth: Glad to hear that, I can't wait to show u more. I won't take too long of a break.
Alright, I think for my break I'll finally finish Ragnarok. I've been trying to savor it like a fine wine and now that I'm taking a break I think I'll use it to finish it.
Hope u guys enjoyed what I've written so far and look forward to more.
Thank u for all the support as usual guys!
Have an awesome day! :)
