Chapter 4 Mind Games (Holiday in the Fog)
A.N. – Alright, so the delay on this chapter comes from a sickness that I had, but sometimes things are better waiting for them.
Short Summary – With only Yumi convinced that she is on their side, Aelita gonna try to convince Jeremy, the leader, that she is on their side and with the holiday in effect, it only makes it easier for her.

Aelita decided to take a few days off to calm down from the whole 'Xana tried to blow up the city and kill millions' fiasco. She didn't know how deadly Xana was in past as she was trapped in Lyoko during this time. Her living a life in the past was more complicated then it needed to be. Even though she was relaxing, she was also thinking of ways to convince Jeremy that she is also on their side. She decided that the most effective way, was the direct way. She had to do this before Xana became active again.
She was in the academy and began to wonder why everyone was in such a good mood. She then saw the mural of Jim out for everyone to see. She knew this could only be the work of her friends…most likely Odd. She headed to the principal's office as it was where they were most likely. She hung out on the outside of the passage to the principal's office and overheard the conversation.
"Oh, he gave me detention the whole week of vacation" Jeremy says.
'Of course, the vacation. I forgot Jeremy stayed behind to try to find a way to rematerialize me' Aelita remembered.
"Cool, he really let you have it" Odd remarks.
"As punishment go, you're a champion!" Ulrich adds.
"I'm sure we could've done it better than that" Yumi says.
"Anyway Xana won't get any vacation this time" Jeremy says as they walk away.
"Neither will too" Aelita says quietly.
"Am I dreaming or does Jeremy look happy to be punished for vacation?" Nicolas asks skeptically as Sissi, and her gang appear.
"Yeah, it sure is weird. You almost think he did what he did cuz he wanted to be punished. I don't get it" Herb points out.
"Me neither. And who's this Xana he was talking about?"
"Herb is right," Sissi stands in front of them. "It's even weirder than weird and I'm gonna find out just what's going on."
"How about you leave him alone? Pestering people gets you nowhere" Aelita tells her.
"And just what do you know! Are you part of his gang or something?"
"No, but I can be your worst nightmare. So, take that into effect because I'll be here too."
"Who is that girl?" Nicolas asks.
"I don't know, but I'm gonna crack the case of both of them" Sissi adds, still clearly irritated.
Aelita returned to Lyoko to ask Xana about what's coming next.
"Anything new to report?" Xana asks.
"Jeremy is gonna be the only one here over the next week" Aelita tells him.
"So, nothing too big."
"Just do something to get their attention."
"I'll look around and find something."
With that Xana disappeared and Aelita returned to Earth.
When she arrived, she saw both Sissi and Jeremy both Jim watching over them. She needed both Sissi and Jim gone for her to be alone with Jeremy. She decides to use her authority as an adult to achieve this goal. She walked up next to Jim.
"Hey Jim" Aelita tells him which startles him a little bit.
"Who are you?" Jim asks.
"Someone Jean-Pierre hired to help you. Call me a freelance worker. I'll take any job. He hired to help you watch these kids."
"Okay."
"Give them a break for five minutes. I'll watch Jeremy, you watch Elizabeth."
"Okay then. Okay you two, take five. Elizabeth, you stay here and Belpois you go with ah…"
Aelita was also frozen. If she told him her real name, the mission would be compromised. "Ah, Schaffer."
"Miss Schaffer here."
The two walk off.
"So, are you this mystery woman that Yumi told us about?" Jeremy asks.
"Yes, and you need to believe I'm here to help you" Aelita responds.
"Somethings don't line up. How come you here to help us and yet you never been to Lyoko and are immune to returns to the past?"
"That's what you think. Listen, I can't tell you why, at least not yet, but right now you may be the only one who can convince everyone else that I'm here for you guys."
"Odd may go along, but Ulrich doesn't trust you."
"He never does. I can't tell you how I know either yet. Listen, everything that went down on the past attacks, I was there, trying to help you and others survive."
"Listen, I can put in a word, but Ulrich isn't willing to listen. You'll have to convince him yourself."
Aelita marked it that the next attack Xana should launch should be at Ulrich directly. That would be her only chance to convince him.
Night had fallen and Aelita tailed Jeremy thinking he was heading to the factory to work on the rematerialization program. Jim also saw her.
"What are you doing out here?" Jim asks quietly.
"Doing my job. Just continue to watch Elizabeth and I'll oversee Jeremy." Aelita continued to track Jeremy and eventually heard him coughing. "Trying to get to the factory?"
"I was, but then I heard clanging and then there was this really toxic pink smoke."
"Pink smoke?"
"In there" Jeremy points to a door.
Aelita opens it to see barrels spilled and no smoke.
"What?! Impossible, unless…"
"Say it, I know."
"Xana."
The two are back at Jeremy's room. "I'm doing this for a cover up. I won't tell Jim about the mess but try to find out what was in those barrels and quickly."
Aelita walked into an empty room and entered Lyoko through the Lyoko door.
"Xana come out."
"You rang."
"I heard of your latest attack. What did you do?"
"The stuff in those barrels has a vey potent smell, when poured. I contained the smoke and combined it to make it say toxic."
"I though after the nuclear catastrophe you would lay off toxic things.
"Listen, the mixture is only toxic if inhaled large amounts. Besides that, it's almost completely harmless. Trust me, the lethality rate is down and now that Jeremy knows, we wait for the warriors."
"I don't know about this one. It's almost like walking into a radioactive zone after a bomb is dropped."
"Well, you can't stop this one. It's already in motion."
Xana disappears and Aelita has no choice but to wait this out.
Aelita had to find someway to move through the building that was going to be engulfed in smoke. She looked inside the garden shed for some sort of gas mask but found nothing to no anvil. Aelita had run out of options.
"I have no choice. I'll help them deactivate the tower" Aelita says as she rushed to meet the others.
Aelita arrives to see Ulrich and Yumi arriving and see Jeremy stumbling out of the smoke. They rush over to check on him. They also catch a glimpse of Aelita arriving.
"Okay, what did you do this time?" Ulrich questions her.
"You think this was me?!" Aelita responds, clearly annoyed.
"You're always around when Xana attacks. Are you a spy?"
"A spy? Get real!"
"Okay, yes, it is a little suspicious, but look around Ulrich. This is clearly Xana!" Yumi interjects.
"Yumi is right. The is a tower activated in the forest sector" Jeremy says weakly.
"Where are Jim and Sissy?" Ulrich asks.
"Still inside."
"I'm going back after them."
Ulrich runs off without second thought. Yumi and Aelita help Jeremy up and then escort him to the sewers as Odd also shows up.
The four all converge at the factory. And then they all descend to the laboratory. They are all watching a news report that the smoke has gone outside the academy.
"Low lethality rate yeah. You've gone too far this time" Aelita says quietly.
"Odd, help me to the computer," Jeremy asks. "And get ready to dive in. Stop looking at me, come on. There's no time to lose."
"What about her?" Yumi asks, wondering about Aelita.
"She goes too. We must deactivate the tower. What's your name?"
"Just call me A" Aelita responds.
The three enter the scanners. "Transfer Yumi. Transfer Odd. Transfer A." Jeremy sees that the girl has her own avatar. "Scanner Yumi. Scanner Odd. Scanner A. Virtualization."
The three are all virtualized. They all land in the forest sector. They look around for current Aelita before she appears behind a tree.
"The activated tower is over this way" current Aelita says as she looks at her future self. "You look a lot like me. Just a darker version."
"Coincidence?" Aelita tells her younger self.
The four race off to the tower. But before they get running, the kankerlots appear.
"Uh oh, we got trouble" Odd comments as three kankerlots appear. Two of them look at each other before they start firing.
"That was weird. It's like they saw something that surprised them" Yumi says.
'It must be because of me. Xana is confused why I'm fighting with them. Whatever. He forced my hand in this situation' Aelita thought.
The three are struggling against the kankerlots. Each of them has lost life points, including current Aelita. They see a tree bridge that leads to the tower.
"The only way to access the tower is via the tree bridge which is guarded by the monsters" Jeremy informs them.
"I got an idea" Yumi says as she uses her telekinesis to lift a rock. She is able to crush one, but the second one that was next to its buddy fires at her. She is hit three more times and devirtualized.
"Energy field!" Aelita fires an orb at it destroying it. Odd and current Aelita run off to the tower and she sees the third kankerlot following them.
Odd waits for current Aelita to create a bridge to the tower and the kankerlot arrives and fires. Odd jumps in the way allowing current Aelita to finish. She starts to jump up and finds out that Odd is devirtualized. It aims at her.
"Yoohoo, up here," Aelita says to it as she is flying. She fires a quick orb. "Energy field!" She destroys the final monster. "You're all clear."
"Thank you." Current Aelita reaches the tower and deactivates it. Jeremy activates the return in time, and everything is reversed.
"She is still untrustworthy. I don't see a reason why we should recruit her" Ulrich tells Jeremy.
"I think she's proven herself. We should give her a chance. She has an avatar and is immune. She has some kind of connection to Lyoko" Jeremy responds.
"We give it more time."
"Well think faster. The quicker we rematerialize Aelita, the quicker we defeat Xana."
Aelita reappeared in the mountain sector ready to relax for the week after this attack but stopped in her tracks sensing Xana. "I know you're there."
"Whose side are you on?" Xana asked.
"Neither. I told you about this, but you refused to do anything about it. So, I took the initiative to help the others. We are a team. You want the keys; you'll have to play my game as much as I'm playing yours. Next time when I stay stop, you stop. The more you do this, the more I go to Lyoko."
"The more we continue this mind game, the more I'm convinced that the keys will not be mine."
"I got a plan B in case they have a way to rematerialize her."
Aelita knows what Xana did to tie her to him, but she hopes it doesn't come down to it.
A.N. – This is the first and definitely not the last we will see of Aelita on Lyoko. There will be more missions which ones she does have a role in, but I don't which ones I have yet.
