Disclaimer: I own nothing you recognise!

Leo

As my father took over my watch at Elaine's house, Shari and Lisbet took me for weapons training.

I had already been taught with daggers, swords and even bows, but this was different.

Today, I was learning how to wield... a wooden stake.

Deadly to a vampire just like fire and decapitation, and with the sheer number of full vampires that seemed set on disliking me...

"The stake is a lot like a dagger in terms of handling. You just need to hit the heart, or you won't kill your foe." It seemed an obvious sentiment, but many amateur vampire hunters had met their end that way.

She had me running drills all afternoon, stabbing out with the stake, spinning, dodging, slashing, kicking-

"You're doing it wrong." My father announced from the sidelines, and I only now realised that Lisbet had disappeared, having relieved him from his watch.

"Am I?" I asked out of surprise. I was doing it the way Shari had showed me, wasn't that right?

He strode over, quickly taking the stake from me and holding it away from himself.

"What you need to do is-" I was watching his hand so intently, I didn't notice the mischievous look in his eyes before he tackled me to the ground.

"What-?" He wrapped his arms around me.

"I'm sorry." He whispered in my ear, and I froze out of shock, slowly returning the hug.

"You were worried about me." I said, locking eyes with Shari over his shoulder.

"There's a war coming Leo." He told me, pulling back. "I don't want to lose you."

(A/N): So, what did you think?

Every time someone says 'there's a war coming' I keep thinking 'winter is coming'.
