(A/N): Hey Guys! So, we finally have a fairly long chapter of 1,600 plus words, yay! On the downside, it's got another makeout session, I couldn't control myself. On the upside, there's some tension coming up, that is resolved by a friendly or familial bond rather than a romantic one, so, yay!

Disclaimer: I own nothing you recognise.

Elaine

Leo isn't the only one who can spy on people, you know, and while watching him and Brooke canoodle isn't really my thing (i.e: torture), the look on his face when he led her away... it worried me.

And apparently it worried Remus too, because he followed me into the clock tower so we could watch them through one of the windows.

"They look cute together." I noted, and Remus slipped an arm around my waist.

"They look cute together because they're physical opposites. You and Leo look cute together because you're meant to be together." I smiled slightly, curling into his side.

"And why do we look cute together?" I murmured into the side of his neck, and he was quiet for a second.

"Because we can never be together." I smacked his arm lightly.

"Why else?" He dropped a kiss into my hair.

"Because we're physically the same. Both with brown hair, brown eyes and pale skin." I pulled away, so I could meet his gaze.

"You have gold eyes, not brown ones." He winced, tightening his grip on me.

"Amber, actually. And amber is a type of brown." I frowned, turning so I could press a light kiss to his lips. "Mhmm..." He hummed, and before I knew it, he had me against the wall.

"He can probably- ah! Sense us!" I managed to get out, glaring at the wall, gasping as Remus nibbled at my pulse point.

Reluctantly, he started pulling back, only to be halted by the hand I had tangled in the hair at the back of his neck.

"You should probably let me go." He said, eyes fluttering closed as he rested his forehead against mine, head angling as if for another kiss, but he kept his distance.

"I don't think I can." He quirked a smile, kissing me lightly on the end of the nose.

"You're adorable." I bit my lip, staring at his face, so close to mine.

"How much do you like me, Remus?" He hesitated for a second, then shook his head.

"Not as much as Leo does." I pursed my lips.

"Leo, he... he fell in love with the wrong girl. Did you ever think of that? That if he'd fallen in love with Brooke, everything would be easy?" Remus smiled slightly.

"Why would Leo want a half-veela, when he can have you?" I made a face.

"You just answered your own question, there." I turned my head, by chance looking out the window at just the right moment to see Brooke pull out of their embrace abruptly.

"She looks pissed." Remus noted, then we watched in shock as she said something that made Leo flinch, then also pull away.

"I don't think they're ever fought before." I murmured. "If they have, there must be a reason he doesn't mention it." Leo said something, and even from here, I could see his eyes glinting with rage.

"What?" Remus whispered as Brooke shouted something at him, and I realised why.

"You can hear them?" I asked urgently, and he shook his head.

"Three days before the full moon. Only Brooke when she raises her voice, Leo isn't loud enough." Watching him, I immediately knew why- Leo was afraid to yell.

His arms were crossed over his chest, a sign of aggression, yes, but his fists were clamped under his arms, not moving in the slightest even as his lips twisted into a sort of feral snarl.

Having been on the receiving end of parental abuse, Leo and I had a few mannerisms in common.

This right here? This was him being afraid he was going to follow his mothers' footsteps.

She had yelled, so he couldn't. She had hit him, so he made sure he couldn't do the same thing to Brooke.

I didn't tell Remus this, and I never would, but it was comforting, knowing now for sure that Leo would never hurt me the way my father had.

"What'd she say?" He frowned slightly.

"She said, 'You're being stupid!'" My eyebrows furrowed, and I turned all the way around so I could get a better angle.

"We say that all the time, why-" He shook his head.

"It wasn't a very nice tone she used." He went silent, and we watched Brooke clam up in a split second.

"What the hell did he say?" I murmured, and Leo shrugged violently, then spoke for a while, and I could see Brooke roll her eyes when he had finished.

Brooke said something, and Leo recoiled, laughing silently.

Brooke watched him with wide eyes, asking something, to which he shook his head.

Leo started talking, then his mouth stopped moving, and he moved back when Brooke tried to approach.

"Jesus... What the hell do you think they're talking about?" Remus shook his head, resting his chin on top of my head as Leo shrugged again.

"I have no idea." He whispered, and I gripped his arms as he wrapped them around my waist. "You're thinking about comforting him right now, aren't you?" I blushed, nodding halfway, before gasping as he bit my neck roughly, pulling me backwards so we were flush.

"Remus!" He rolled his hips against my backside, and I couldn't help jerking back against him.

"Elaine..." He breathed into my ear, fingers digging into my hipbones.

"Remus..." I repeated, moaning as he slipped a hand between my legs, hooking my skirt up around his wrist as he palmed me through my underwear.

"You have no idea how you sound right now." He murmured, mouthing at my neck.

"I think I do." I told him somewhat smugly, rubbing back against him, hearing him groan as I did so.

"Oh, you are mean." He hissed, one hand skimming up my stomach to cup one of my breasts.

"I'm mean?!" I gasped, and he chuckled, spinning me around and pinning me against the wall next to the window.

"Very, very mean." He said, swooping down for a kiss, and, by chance, I glanced to the side, jumping as I met someone's eyes.

"Mmh!" I exclaimed, pushing Remus away with a hand on his chest. "Leo!" Remus immediately spun around, and Leo cocked an eyebrow at him.

"Well, don't stop on my account." He said, and I did my best to glare at him, but it didn't feel right.

"Well, we didn't- I didn't-" Remus held his hands together in front of his crotch, trying to hide, but Leo only laughed.

"Guys, why are you freaking out?" My eyebrows shot up, and Remus looked just as confused.

"Because you just walked in on your best friend snogging the love of your life?" Leo snorted quietly.

"Remus, you've had a crush on her for like, three years. Besides, it's not like we're dating." We both gaped at him.

"You- You knew?!" Leo sobered.

"...Was it supposed to be a secret?" Remus nodded vigorously.

"Yes, yes it was!" Leo glanced at me, then his eyes darted away again. Odd.

"Oh... Sorry." My eyebrows shot up.

"Why are you apologising? We were the ones snogging- for the second time!" I slapped Remus on the arm and he blushed lightly.

"As you're both well within your rights to do." I swear to god, Remus almost fainted.

"I- Did you just- what the hell?" Leo cocked an eyebrow at him.

"What, you thought I'd be unhappy?" Remus and I shared a look.

"I thought you'd be pissed." Leo flashed us both a sincere looking smile, but I knew better than to trust it.

"Why would I be pissed though? You're my best friends, I love my girlfriend, and anything that makes any of you happy is alright by me." To say I was shocked was an understatement.

"What was that?" He shrugged, moving forward to punch Remus in the shoulder lightly.

"'Anything that makes any of you happy is alright by me'?" I shook my head.

"The thing before that... And the thing before that, as a matter of fact." He smiled slightly.

"'You're my best friends, and I love my girlfriend.'" I cocked an eyebrow at him, feeling rather hurt by the second part, and oddly touched by the first part.

"Oh." Was all I said, and Leo looped an arm around my shoulders as Remus stepped away.

"Well, now that our eavesdropping is over, I'm gonna go... tend to Sirius and James." He cleared his throat, skirting past Leo and leaving me alone with him in the remotely located clock tower.

"You guys were eavesdropping on Brooke and I?" I shrugged.

"We tried to, but we could only hear anything when Brooke yelled." He nodded slowly, looking relieved, and I didn't bother fighting the urge to hug him.

"I'm guessing it was a private conversation, then?" He shrugged.

"There's no such thing, but yeah. I was talking to her about what happened over the summer." I hesitated for a second, then nodded.

"... The thing that happened before you came to see me?" He bit his lip.

"Yeah. And what happened when I went to see you- Well, the non-smutty bits, anyway." I smiled, a little bit awkwardly.

"What, you're not going to tell me something that happened between you and her during the summer?" He froze for second, then shook his head.

"You don't need to hear the sordid details of my love life, trust me." I went to move out from under his arm, but he pulled me back, reaching and down and tugging on the front of my skirt...

And covering my underwear.

"Fuck." He couldn't help but laugh at that, pressing a kiss to the side of my head.

"You're adorable when you swear." I swatted at him, but he darted out of the way before I could actually touch him.

"And you're adorable when you're pretending to be chivalrous." He cocked an eyebrow at me.

"What do you mean, 'pretending'?" I flicked him in the arm.

"Well, how long did it take you to fix it?"

(A/N): She's got a point.

Also, I realise that understanding who's talking is pretty difficult, especially in this chapter, so... sorry. Sorry for that guys!

Please review and/or check out my other stories!

This chapter has had minor edits made to it on 31/12/22 - Because I originally wrote that Remus's eyes were gold, but then I thought that that was just a fanon thing, and when I looked it up I learned that, canonically, Remus has amber eyes, which are basically the same thing.
