(A/N): I have finished my planned edits to the earlier chapters of this story. I made fairly small edits to at least eighty chapters, more substantial changes to a handful more, and major changes to a couple more. I also added two new chapters in between old ones, as I mentioned in the previous chapter.
Leo
Uh, what?
I'm sorry, excuse me?
I tried not to openly gape at Lisbet in case she was serious, but I couldn't hide my glare, and Jerremyah definitely took note.
"My new teacher doesn't seem all that happy that you volunteered him to teach me." Oh god, he was going to be almost as insufferable at Lisbet, wasn't he?
"I admit, some prior warning would've been nice." I said very pointedly, but Lisbet must have still been pissed at me about earlier, because she didn't look the slightest bit apologetic.
"I know you, Jerremyah. I know how much you despise the fact you've never fully felt like you've ever been completely in control of your cravings." I barely caught the look Jerremyah shot my way, and I certainly couldn't even begin to decipher it. "We've all been helping train the Twins, but Leo's the one who's been in charge of helping them control their urges-" She was just straight up lying to this man.
I mean, sure, I had helped them by being at least partially human, and thus allowing them to slowly build up a tolerance to blood. And I had- rather un-enthusiastically, I might add- allowed them to be directly exposed to Elaine in order for us to measure how they were coming along. And I had brought Mia into the house, which had forced them to progress faster than they probably should have into being around a person with almost fully human blood for extended periods of time, but other than that, I hadn't really done anything.
"And they already have much better control than I did at their age. Tell him, Herc." Clearly, Herc hadn't been expecting to be dragged into this conversation, because he jolted, and Jerremyah stared at him like he had just noticed he was there.
"Uh... Yes, right. When Lisbet asked me to test how the Twins were coming along, I told her they were above average for their age in just about every way. I have every confidence that it's because they had good teachers." Laying it on a bit thick, Herc.
"Is that so?" Jerremyah didn't sound like he believed us.
"Of course there's always the added benefit of having a clan to watch your back, and considering how strong Leo is-" Jerremyah scoffed, then immediately seemed to regret it as he saw the look on Lisbet's face.
"He's a kid, and despite Nicholai's confidence that he could 'kick my arse'-" Lisbet cut him off, slapping a hand down on my shoulder in a way that made me jump.
"There were five vampires other than Jonothan. Nicholai killed one before he died- the other four, Leo killed." Jerremyah's eyebrows weren't the only ones that shot up. Clearly, Herc wasn't expecting to hear that I had pretty much single handedly taken out a team of vampires at age fourteen.
Then again, I hadn't known that Lisbet had been made privy to all the details from that night, considering she hadn't been there.
"I watched him pop the head off a guy with his bare hands, with ease." Danniel chimed in, and Jerremyah gave me an appraising look. Herc, on the other hand, looked like he genuinely might be sick.
To be completely fair, it wasn't like I had done it on purpose. I had had my hands around his throat, and in a fit of grief, I had squeezed. I hadn't even realised he was dead until his blood splattered my face. But that didn't sound as intimidating, so I didn't say it out loud.
"Well, well. Maybe I underestimated your abilities, Leo. Still, there are plenty of clans that would love me to join-" I cut off his self aggrandizing speech.
"Yeah, but there's only one clan that Lisbet's a part of." I leveled him with a very pointed look. "And that's what you really care about, isn't it?" It was a rhetorical question, which is good, because Jerremyah looked like the only way he'd answer it would be with a series of expletives. Lisbet was glaring at me, and I finally understood what the appeal was whenever she teased me about Elaine.
"You assume a lot for someone who knows me so little." Jerremyah ground out, and I grinned at him before Lisbet stepped in front of me.
"Leo may not know you very well, but I do. And I know you would never take the risk of ferrying two new vampires to an unknown clan if you didn't feel responsible for them in some way." Jerremyah's eyes narrowed, and I saw the confusion on Jo's face, contrasting the worry on Danniel's. Why was Danniel worried-?
"I know you're the one that turned the Twins."
(A/N): Lisbet: 'Leo is an important member of the clan, and helped train the Twins.'
Leo: 'LIES! YOU'RE LYING!'
also
Leo: 'Jerremyah's going to be just as insufferable as Lisbet, isn't he?'
Leo, later: *teases both Jerremyah and Lisbet about their relationship* 'This is fun, I now understand why Lisbet does it.'
