I woke up strapped to a hospital bed, my head all messed up with medication. I couldn't figure out where I was or how long it had been. I just concentrated on getting out of the fucking bed and eventually, I developed a rage that made me wriggle out of it. I tried to escape whenever, however, I attacked whoever and did everything I could to get out. But always there were too many opponents and I felt the damn injection, after which the resistance was futile.
Sometimes I would hear the nurses or whatever torturers they were, they would talk about how I had maimed several and someone had probably even died, I felt no pangs of conscience.
Nicholas and Elias were in a foul mood, not only because their protégé had disappeared but also because they had no clue who had kidnapped her. They'd been searching for three weeks and not a single lead. They finally caught one of the janitors at a bar in Montana who told them about a patient who kills everyone when he escapes. Nicholas and Elias went to Montana to meet this janitor and were determined to use their mind control skills to get the truth out.
On arriving in Montana they hit the bar and after lurking for a while and a couple of evenings, the janitor came to the bar limping and ashamed of his black eye. He started up again about the madwoman who would kill anybody if she got loose. Nicholas walked up beside the man and looked him in the eye and asked where this establishment was located. The man gave the location and bragged about the security measures at the medical facility. The man boasted about how his employers are generous and helpful and contribute to the greater good by making new medicines. In the same breath, he explained how, for example, this woman is used as a guinea pig to test different drugs. Nicholas was very close to drinking this fucking idiot dry but Elias held back. "We need more information and most importantly we need help. "What are you suggesting Dear Brother," Nicholas said mockingly. Elias sighed deeply and thought for a moment, he spotted a large table at the other end of the bar full of werewolves. "We need allies and strong ones I might add," Elias said. "It's time for you, my brother, to fully embrace your other side. "You can't mean werewolves, can you?" "That's right, and not just any werewolves, but you're asking the head chief, the Marrok, for help. He's the leader of all the werewolves in America." Nicholas thought about it for a moment and tried to think of a rebuttal but he too saw his brother's logic, they needed more help and since Nicholas was half werewolf maybe he could get Marrok to get some men to help. They decided to let the janitor go because when he came back to the bar the werewolves would get the next interrogation shift.
The vampires left the bar looking for tourists or thugs to have a little nibble on. They made their way to a hotel and after a couple of days of planning, they headed for the mountains of Montana in search of Marrok's headquarters.
Summer in Montana is warm but short. The forest was full of life, birdsong, and different scents but Nicholas and Elias barely noticed them as they drove along a road that wasn't in terribly good shape due to the recent rains. Eventually, they came to the village of Marrok.
"Fine, now we just have to find out where Marrok lives and what he looks like," Nicholas said irritably. "Let's ask that guy," Elias said, pointing to a young blond-haired boy leaning against the wall with a bored look on his face.
The boy was tall, surfer-looking and he leaned against the wall as if waiting for someone. Elias approached the boy and asked "Excuse me, do you know where Marrok is?" the boy raised one eyebrow questioningly, looking at the vampire from head to toe almost scornfully. "What do you want with Marrok?" The boy would reply lazily. "We need Marrok's help, our friend is in trouble and we'd like to ask if Marrok has any men we can borrow," Nicholas replied politely, though his nerves were at breaking point. "So where can we find Marrok?" Elias inquired with increasing vehemence. The boy looked at Elias for a moment and said "I'm Bran Cornick, aka Marrok, but I'm dying to know why two vampires are asking me for help." Nicholas replied, "I'm not just a vampire, I'm a hybrid, half werewolf and that's why I'm asking for your help, actually if you're Marrok, I don't have the nerve to pull any pranks at the moment." Marrok looked for a moment and took out his Marrok power. "Do you believe me now? He said dangerously. "Excellent. If I may introduce myself, I am Nicholas, the original vampire hybrid and this here is my brother Elias the original vampire. "said Nicholas. "Now that the introductions have been made, can we get down to business?"
Elias and Nicholas briefly explained to Marrok the whole chain of events and told him about the janitor who was bragging in the bar. Bran said. "First we hunt and then I'll decide if and to what extent I'll help you." Nicholas looked at his brother doubtfully and said reluctantly. "Fine, fine, when and where?" Bran looked at Nicholas for a while and said "Midnight here in the square and we will leave." "Okay," Nicholas said. The vampires went off for a while to find something to eat, just food, no blood this time. They waited until midnight and Nicholas went into the woods to turn into a wolf. The transformation was painful, not every bone was broken but they were dislocated and muscles grew. It was hard.
After the transformation Nicholas returned to the clearing and then found 12 other wolves waiting there, the wolves sniffed each other for a while and then went off into the woods to hunt moose. This was also a trial by fire, a way to get Nicholas to show his wolf to Bran and a chance for Bran to get to know and evaluate Nicholas' wolf. After all, this kind of vampire hybrid was completely new to him and he certainly didn't know what kind of wolf it would be. Nicholas's wolf was a grey, long-haired, handsome, and rather smug specimen. This wolf was also cunning, and surprisingly lazy. It took a while for the hunting song to catch on with this wolf and he showed what he could do. Nicholas was completely new to this pack hunting, he hadn't kept a wolf on display for years, and considering he was tied up for a thousand years he was amazed at all the instincts and sensations the wolf stirred up inside him.
It was this very wolf that drove the hybrid to rescue Mimi. The wolf considered the woman as one of his pack. Nicholas had had countless female relationships over the centuries but his wolf had been awake for about thirty years and had yet to accept anyone but Mimi. Bran noticed this and was left to wonder, if and when they rescued this girl/woman would his place be with the vampire brothers after all? Elias had explained how Mimi's former life had been destroyed and she had nothing to go back to. A few relatives might still be alive but contact had been sparse and when her death was properly publicized in the papers Mimi had decided to start afresh in America.
All night Bran studied the wolves in the pack, watched to make sure the hierarchy was running smoothly, and was surprised how easily a hybrid wolf slipped into the pack and didn't immediately start challenging everyone.
At 6 am, the sun began to rise and the wolves gathered back in the woods to change back into humans. Nicholas was covered in sweat by the time he was ready and dressed in the clothes Elias brought without a word. Bran came over and said "Your wolf is an okay guy, lazy and selfish but I guess so are you. You should take the wolf out now and then, he likes it." Then Bran just waved his hand at the men to get in the car.
They drove in silence along the forest road to a house a little way from the others. The house was large and three stories high, with a large porch with a nice-looking old swing. They went into the house and Bran asked "Do you drink coffee or tea?" "Coffee is fine" Nick replied. They sat down in the kitchen at a large table that could seat at least 12 people at a time.
Bran said "We'll wait for a couple of guys and then we can start thinking about this rescue mission of yours. Your wolf, Nick has accepted me as his Alpha and he considers this woman Mimi to be a member of his pack. It's kind of like my duty to at least hear you out and see where and how I can be of assistance." The vampires glanced at each other and Elias mused to himself "Sure we have always and forever, but that's just family. But if the werewolf family is their pack."
Bran looked searchingly at the vampire for a moment and said "The pack is our family, and Nick is now part of my pack and so are you. I have telepathic abilities when it comes to communication between the pack, so I've already given the broad outlines to Adam and Samuel, ah here they come."
The door opened and in walked a dark tall handsome man. He was strong, and muscular and had dark brown eyes and jet-black hair. He was a man of danger and power. He walked like a panther and looked through Niklas and Elias with one look, showing that he was the stronger man. Nick felt his wolf embrace the dark man's strength and was not about to stand up to him. The dark man nodded to both of them and said briefly, "Good morning, Bran." Then he sat down, he seemed to be relaxed but Nick could see that the man was in tune as a bow and wouldn't need much when he exploded.
The other man was tall blond with a friendly look, he was young looking, not as young as Bran but 25 at the most. He wasn't ugly either, he was a bit more ordinary looking. he had very kind bright green eyes
Bran said "May I introduce Samuel, my son" he was a blond boy and the dark man was Adam. Adam Hauptmann was the alpha of Chicago. Nicholas and Elias introduced themselves and explained again. The men talked for a while and went through all sorts of scenarios. Eventually, Adam said he now wants to meet this or see this janitor, and the same was agreed by Bran who said "I'll go with you, the three of us will go and interrogate this janitor. Besides, I have already told my other son to find out everything he can about this establishment." Samuel said "From what I've heard about those medical facilities, they are not nice places. I've had a couple of werewolves treated after they were rescued from a facility and unfortunately, they both died" Nicholas said "That won't happen to our friend" Adam said, "Does she have a name?"
"Actually we haven't talked much about it we called her Mimi, she had her own name but when she was kind of killed by these bad guys and everyone thinks she's dead she decided to be Mimi, "said Nicholas" Mimi "Adam said "Just a human but a special one," Nicholas said.
"As I said he was brainwashed, or programmed whatever you want to call the process, to kill me. She had a poisoned stake and I've never smelled such poison." Nick explained. "She probably smelled the drugs for two weeks before it was all out of her system. We have her blood in the freezer but I don't know if it preserved the substances. We have a blood sample in the car packed in ice if you want to test it." Samuel said, "Yeah I can look it over here already, freezing changes the chemistry but if there were that many drugs in them, there should be residue." Nick got a cooler from the car with four tubes of blood in it. He handed one tube to Samuel who sniffed the icy blood and grimaced "Sniff it da, this really stinks of medicine. How on earth could this individual have been working in such a sea of medicine? If an ordinary person's blood smelled like this, that person would be in or going to the morgue."
Bran sniffed the tube and sneezed. "Yuck, yes there is a pharmacy, a miracle indeed." Elias handed over another tube. "This is in a week," Samuel said "Still some incredible doses, let me get these bloods for myself, then I'll let them thaw and then try to identify some drugs at least." The vampires looked at each other and nodded. "That smell of the drugs was probably the only thing that kept me from drinking Mimi dry when she came to our door. "Nick said.
Samuel came back and said "I'd sure like to check this woman out if we manage to save her. She's a medical miracle. How did they originally take this Mimi as a victim?" Elias replied. "What Mimi remembers is one doctor bragging to another about how they had been monitoring the contents of commercial DNA banks and apps. Mimi herself had sent a sample of herself to one company a month earlier." Adam cursed." I am a security consultant and have helped many such companies. They tend to have terrible firewalls and their cyber security is non-existent." Bran added, "Let's not forget that our lovely government sometimes works with these folks to find werewolves or witches, for example." Nick looked at his phone which beeped. "Showtime boys, I used mind control and got the bartender to tell me when this janitor is coming back and he says it's his day off and he came to the bar to have a good time. What do you say, boys, let's go for a little interrogation?"
Bran, Adam, and Samuel got up and the vampires followed. They piled into one of the SUVs and drove 15 km to the club. They got in and went to one of the tables to sit and observe. The bartender was in a rambunctious mood and trying to grope the waiters and chat up whoever he could, Bran said "I'm going to the bar now to order drinks, let's see if I can hook a fish already."
Bran walked over to the bar and ordered himself a Jack Danielis. The attendant came up beside him and started bragging and defying Bran. Adam, Samuel, and the vampires watched for a while as Bran ignored the defiance and sipped his drink. Finally, Bran said, "What do you do for a living, are you a security guard or something?" "No, I'm a medical orderly and a bit of a guard, look where I work, they need a good man, they've got crazy people there." The man explained enthusiastically.
Bran said, "You work in a mental hospital, don't you?" Bran deliberately kept his voice a little bored and arrogant, as if he couldn't care less about the man. "Not when it's one of those secret labs where they study everything, you know you don't believe the research, these scientists get them all riled up and then they attack the poor nurses and that's where they need me. One woman there, she's small, about 160 cm, and probably doesn't weigh much. She has the strength of three men and she has killed people there because they don't take her seriously. Well, they do now, it's medicated like a zombie, but if they don't remember to give the medicine in time..." The man ran his finger down his throat. Bran said, "If she's so strong, what can you do to her?" The watchman said, "When I jump on her, she won't get out from under me until they get the medicine in her again." The man seemed proud of his involvement.
Samuel got up from the table and went to the bar, too, to talk to the man. Adam and the vampires watched the conversation for a moment, then Adam gestured to the waitress and ordered beers for the three of them. Samuel and Bran played well together. Soon they had information about the location, some of the floor plan, and security in general. A plan was already starting to form for Bran but it would need some refining. Bran sent all the information to his other son, Charles, who began searching the city archives for floor plans and researching the facility's staff. By evening, Charles had driven close to the facility and transformed into a wolf with ease. Charles' mother had been a witch, so it was her magical powers that allowed Charles to transform instantly. Charles was also the only werewolf born, not made.
The men returned from the bar to Bran's house at almost midnight. Charles had made a preliminary inspection of the place and had confirmed what Bran thought was a good rescue plan. They would infiltrate the facility from below. The plant was built on top of old mines, and according to the watchman, the tunnels were rarely used. The tunnels were used as break rooms for the foremen and so on. That would be their entrance. There were several service hatches in the tunnels and there was also a lift to the normal floor. One service hatch was directly where Mim was supposedly kept. The only problem was that they would have to walk almost 20 km through the tunnel, Mimi would probably not be in any condition to walk, so they would have to develop a means of transportation. The easiest way for them would be to travel in wolf form and there they would have a distinct advantage.
Samuel, Charles, Adam, Bran, and the vampires went through the plan for two weeks. Nick and Elias would not enter the tunnels but would wait outside in a car ready to go, because Charles would be the only one who could transform into a human right away, so drivers would be needed to drive them out. In addition, the vampires would notice if someone was approaching or if there was any suspicious activity. They would have one more addition to the rescue plan. Adam's ex-wife, Mercy. Mercy had ascended to a higher plane of existence, meaning she was, in a sense, dead. She would be able to help with this because Mimi would one day be chaos, just as Mercy once was. Mimi would just become very much more powerful. Mercy had permission from above to help with this. Adam didn't want to face Mercy or talk to Mercy. The less they had to do, the better.
