Author's Notes: Here's another chapter, to continue the first movie is out of the ordinary but I'm enjoying myself. Kyle being alive will be easier to navigate, which I have written before with a different fandom but this one will be longer. Sarah's life years before Kyle's miraculous return will be discussed. Read on and I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter 3: I Never Knew Love
Back at the house:
Now back home, not understanding that she felt nervous as she opened the door and Kyle was there waiting for her like he promised.
"Hey, I'm back. What are you doing?"
"Fixing you something to eat. I know you didn't eat before you left and I wanted to do this for you."
"You are sweet; thank you. Oh, my, it does smell good."
"Here you go, it's hot. French toast, eggs, and bacon."
"When and where did you learn how to cook? Which brings out other questions about family, your parents, siblings, your home, all of that?"
Now sitting at the table. "All my family were killed during the war. No one was left alive. I learned how to cook from my mom when I was younger."
She took his hand. "I'm so sorry. But Kyle, we're in the past and your family could still be alive, and…" She stopped at his look.
"Yes they are but I was in my twenties when the war happened and managed to stay alive if you can call it that. Before it happened, I finished my training at Quantico to become an agent for the CIA, and that was my dream. But to answer your question, no, my family wouldn't understand."
"I suppose you're right." She thought of the future. "The machines were everywhere; that's what you told me."
"Yes, everywhere. Skynet was created and became self-aware, which became a problem because the machine wanted to control and viewed humanity as its biggest threat. There was no way to escape them except to hide."
"When did you meet John, my son, our son?"
He smiled. "I was older in my early twenties, but I didn't know he was my son, not then, but I did notice his eyes and it reminded me of the photograph."
"Oh, I see and it was John who gave you the photograph of me?"
"Yes, he knew the truth of who I was but he never told me about you only the photo."
"That is strange, but you found me only from the photo; is that right?"
"Yes, I knew where you lived and your face that drew me to you and the memory of it led me here to you again."
"Kyle, you fell in love with me while looking at the photo?"
"Yes, and I still do. I stared at the picture, I had this idea, and I knew it didn't make any sense but I knew you were thinking of me." He paused. "I love you Sarah, now until forever."
"It's true, I was thinking of you." Her eyes watered. "I love you too."
"Are you done eating?" He smiled and stood up and held out his hand.
She took it and they walked into the bedroom. Now in bed, nose to nose still unbelieving that they're back together.
His eyes roamed over her face. "You're spoiling me; I may never leave here."
"That's the plan." She smiled. One thing leads to another they made love again speaking love words and holding each other tightly unable to let go now until forever.

Two months later:
On his way home from work, Kyle sighed heavily, but he'd made the decision to stay with his family. It wasn't a difficult decision but there are other concerns about terminators whether when or where they return. He couldn't seem to think of anything else. They truly need to talk about how to protect their family.
Sleeping soundly, he did not want to wake her, he let her rest. His hours at work are not working out well, now it's late at night still learning about the shop, his co-workers, his boss and his hours, and how to accept a new part of this life. Now in bed, his head close to hers, he fell into a restless sleep. But then, hours later, the dream.
In a dream world, far from reality:
I can see myself. Where am I? Walking in the darkness, I came upon a structure that I had never seen before. Alone then I hear a voice. Who are you? Then I saw the gun but his eyes were red, a terminator!.
"Kyle, Kyle; wake up!" Sarah shook his shoulder.
"Sarah?" He wakes up with tears on his face. "Where am I?"
"You're here with me." She wiped away the tears from his cheeks with a tissue from the nightstand. "That must have been some dream. Do you want to talk about it?"
He takes deep breaths to calm down. "Alright, but" he hesitated.
"But what?"
"We have other more important things to discuss," he replied with raised eyebrows.
"Oh, I know we do," she said and lay back down.
He leaned over her. "I know we haven't talked about it, but I thought we could do it before we made the move up-state at least for the summer months to stay safe." He smiled at her then touched her cheek.
That surprised her. "What is it about this move that has you worried?" He did not reply. "You've been back for several months, but you haven't talked about it, which isn't like you. Kyle, we promised that we would tell each other everything, only in case."
"Yes, and I will before we move," he said, hoping to reassure her.
She was silent, looking at the ceiling, still concerned about this move.
He took her hand. "Everything is going to be alright." He paused, then decided she should know. "I'm worried too, and I suppose that's why I'm having nightmares about it."
She squeezed his hand. "I know you're worried." He leaned down and placed his head under her chin, holding her close stroking his hair. "Now, tell me about the dream."
"I could see myself. Everything is dark until a man steps out of the shadows. I don't know who he is, or where I am. Then I saw a gun and that's when I woke up. The problem is that his eyes were … red."
"Oh, no, not red eyes! It's too dark, but are you sure they were red?" She paused and tried not to get upset. "Can you describe him, anything that could give us clues?"
"Yes, it was dark and I could be wrong. Anyway, he was tall, Caucasian and I could be close to our safe place, only because the sounds of screams seemed close." He paused. "It's the terminator."
She stroked his hair again. "The terminator? But you couldn't see whether it was the future or here in the past?" She tried to stay calm. "But you're here with me and we're going to move and we'll be safe at least for now." She whispered that the last part was getting emotional.
He leaned up and kissed her sweetly. "No, only the red eyes and I felt terrified." He paused. "Thank you, my beautiful Sarah." He reached inside the nightstand. "I have a few words for you." He pulled out a small velvet box and showed her the ring. "I've been carrying this around since I woke up and these fantasies about you and me together again." He paused again. "I love you Sarah, and I can't imagine how we found each other again, but life without you, I can't imagine it. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
"Yes, I'll marry you." She didn't hesitate. Eyes shining, she smiled and held out her hand. He slipped it on. "It's beautiful." She felt worried. "Was this too quick? I mean," she hesitated.
"I suppose it is, but it has been a year since I woke up and you were searching for me for years hoping to find me. I think we should get married. " He stared at the ring. "Perfect fit." He kissed her sweetly, then leaned in and pulled her close thinking of his dream.
"Do you remember anything else? It could be important?" She asked.
"That's all I remember, but I do wonder why I dreamed of the terminator. My dreams of you were constant and enjoyable, but there must be a reason."
"Most dreams tend to lean towards fear of the past or the future." She stroked his hair again, then she had a thought. "Maybe the dream is telling you about the future, to take things slow and most of all, to be careful." She paused. "Kyle, while your presence felt close, then I did a little research about the future and the past. Quantum physicists have figured out that the way we experience time is an illusion, that it doesn't happen in a linear way that the past, present and reality, there's no difference."
Confused, he asked, "What are you trying to say?"
"You do have good memories of your father; you told me that." She paused. "Think about reaching out to your family; I know they miss you."
He thought about it. "I'll reach out to them, I promise," he whispered and kissed her cheek, her ear, then down her throat. "You're not too tired; are you?" He whispered and without waiting for a reply, he continued down her body.
"No, I'm not," she whispered, enjoying his kisses, then she closed her eyes then later and before she fell asleep, she thought of the terminator that he's a man from the future. No one else knows about our past with me. Someone else knows his secret, but who? She wondered.

The next morning before they left for their jobs and to drop off John, Kyle had more things to say. "Sarah, we need to take care of a few things, and soon."
She smiled and slipped on her coat. "Oh, you mean that?"
"Yeah," he replied and opened the door for her. "Meet me at City Hall at Noon?"
"Noon?" Relieved, he nodded. "I'll be there."
"Great; it's a date." She touched his arm. "I'm glad we can talk about anything without worrying about it; only because you decided to stay with us."
"Me too," he said. "Even with the contradictions and about the past, I still feel close to you."
"Looking at it through your eyes, none of it matters. We will get through this."
He touched her cheek. "We're tight and secure." He paused. "Are you ready?"
"'I'm ready."
"Mom, let's go!" John pulled her coat ready to leave.
In her car with John in the back seat, then on her way to work, Sarah had other things on her mind, the thoughts were her search for a place in the mountains, plus her family.
Years ago, while going through her mother's belongings, not only her Will, but pictures of family members she hadn't seen since she was a child. They were estranged for reasons she knew nothing about but she would find out. Then she remembered her meeting with her cousin, her mother's brother as well at the service. She needed family especially now whether the next terminator comes back or not.

Weeks after Kyle's presumed death:
David Conner, her uncle, a senior partner at the law firm of Manheim & Jones, LLP, led a strict upbringing of his daughters, hoping to keep them close, but it did not work out that way.
"Sarah, you're early," David greeted his niece surprised to hear from her. It's been a while, not since the service.
"Hello, Sir, may I come in; it's rather urgent?"
"Alright, come in," he replied.
They both took a seat. Moments of awkward silence, then, "I need your help, Sir, I have my mother's Will."
He sighed. "Sarah, as I told you over the phone, I don't see how I could help you with who killed her." He paused. "I told you about the police and yes, I know you have her Will, but that's all I know about the investigation. The police saw no evidence and summarized that it must have been a robbery gone bad." He's not being completely honest. Being a senior partner, he had access to high-ranking officials in the Government, mostly white-collar criminals he helped to prosecute but nothing about his sister's death.
She did not believe him. "Yes, I know you did, and it's helpful," she said, but he had more to say.
"Sarah, you need to move on. She's gone and… can I be frank?"
She stiffened. "Go on."
"I'm worried about you. I'm sure I'm not the first person you've approached about the investigation." At her shocked expression, he continued. "Senator Benson and I spoke on the phone days after Kyle died and it was about… you."
"What?" She asked, shocked.
"Before the Senator left the country, he told me about your 'involvement' while trying to find out what happened to Kyle. If you had stayed with him, you could have died or gone missing, as well? Before she was killed, I spoke to my sister about you. Do you know what I went through, what I have gone through these past few months because of your 'association' with him? Your cousins and I do not know what to do about you. Your well-being means everything to us. Now that your mother is gone and Kyle too, and I know we are not talking that much, but that does not mean that we don't think about you and worry about you."
Becoming emotional, she stood up and stood by the window. Thinking of her lost love, she whispered, "I don't know what's happening to me." She rubbed her tired eyes about to cry. Am I losing my mind? She wondered.
He wanted to comfort her, but she needed a firmer hand in this matter. "Kyle is dead and your mother too. They're both gone from this world and you cannot bring either of them back. Accept it."
"Believe me, I have tried. I've accepted that my mother is gone, but Kyle, I cannot find his body, no one will help me. We could not even bury him. He could be alive out there waiting for me; waiting for someone to find him."
"Please tell me you are not thinking of searching for him when he's dead?"
She turned to face him. "I need to try; no one else is going to do it."
He took her by the shoulders. "Please don't do this; you could be killed, same as him."
"I won't stop looking for him. I cannot move on and I don't want to."
"You must face the facts. Reese died doing a job to protect you. That may seem honorable to you, but he was selfish, not thinking of you at all," he said.
She jerked away from him and headed for the door. "You have no idea what you're talking about. Never met anyone as unselfish or honorable in my life. Kyle… he's a part of me and I will never be able to move on; not ever!"
"Sarah, please; you have to listen to me," David said truly worried for his niece and her mind.
"Goodbye, Sir," she said and left him with her mother's Will as he stared at the closed door.

A month after Kyle's presumed death:
After the memories of her visit with her uncle, Sarah called her cousin. Dorothy or Dottie as everyone calls her, works as an attorney, following in her father's footsteps. She could not blame her; he could be extremely persuasive. His attitude concerning Kyle upset her; she felt ill thinking of it.
"Dottie, it's me."
"Sarah, where are you; how are you?" Dottie asked, happy to hear from her.
"Doing all right considering. On my way to work, but I'm a little early, can we meet at the house for a few minutes? I have coffee and pastries. Can you come?"
"Sure, I have an hour before my next meeting with my father; I'll see you in a bit." She paused. "I'm glad you called."
"Me too; I'll see you soon."
Sarah arrived home, fixed coffee, and found pastries. The doorbell rang. "Coming!"
She opened the door and greeted her cousin with a warm hug. Neither wanted to release each other, and they stood that way for a long moment. Dottie was the first to pull away.
"Come in, have a seat," Sarah said. "You look wonderful."
"Thanks, Sarah; I love your outfit," Dottie said, but she hated small talk.
Minutes later, after the food and coffee on the table, Dottie spoke up. "No coffee for you?"
"No, I'm not sleeping well; drinking coffee doesn't help," she replied plus she was late.
"Okay, I see," Dottie thoughtfully said then she dived right in. "I was surprised by your call; it has been a while." She paused. "Does this have anything to do with…your mother or is it Kyle?" She paused. "I'm sorry to hear about my aunt who was killed, but then Kyle died as well. I'm so sorry."
"Thanks Dottie. But Kyle, he's presumed dead."
"Oh, did you say presumed dead? I don't understand."
"You see, as I explained to your father, Kyle is presumed dead but I cannot find any evidence that he's dead and I asked for his help, but he wouldn't do it."
After eating and drinking for minutes, Dottie thought her cousin seemed different. "Okay, now, tell me the real reason you wanted to see me." Sarah was silent. She seemed upset. "You can tell me; go on."
Sarah took a deep breath and dived in. "Kyle is dead, everyone says, but I could be pregnant. I never had the chance to tell him before he was killed."
Dottie thought that was sad. "I can see how upset you are, but is there more?"
"No, that's all, but my uncle is concerned about me and I could lose my mind over my mother dying and then Kyle was killed or I thought he was dead," she hesitated.
"I'm sorry, but I remember seeing the news about the manhunt for a dangerous cyborg out to kill you both, plus I heard what happened at the police station, all of it." She paused. "I'm happy you survived."
"You're right, but all of it has me on edge," Sarah said and sipped her juice.
"What does that mean?" Dottie asked, confused.
"Kyle was… special, unique, and one of a kind," Sarah replied, a bit wistfully.
"I'm sure he was," Dottie said with a sad smile. "You were incredibly lucky to find each other but I'm sorry he didn't make it."
Sarah agreed. "Me too." She took a deep breath. "Dottie, I have to," she began.
"What is it? It must be important." She sipped her coffee.
"It is and you can't tell a soul, not even your father."
She frowned. "I can keep a secret."
Sarah raised her eyebrows.
"I swear not to tell a soul; not even my father."
"Dottie, I mean it; you cannot tell anyone."
"Alright; alright, I promise, now tell me."
"Kyle Reese was from the future… and I'm sure I'm carrying his child." She said slowly, but the idea he's from the future is pretty unbelievable, she thought.
Shocked into silence, mouth hanging open. Dottie slowly leaned back, picked up her coffee, then set it back down. It all made sense now. "It's way too early for anything stronger; isn't it?"
Sarah chuckled. "Yeah, it is."
"Wow, you said he was from the future." She shook her head still dazed by her confession. "You don't regret being with him; do you?"
"Of course, not," she quickly replied. "I still have hope of finding him."
"Then what's truly bothering you?" Dottie asked concerned for her cousin.
"It's the pregnancy, I guess plus the idea of searching for him with no one to help me."
She frowned, but she understood. "I'm here for you and my father if you let him." She smiled, hoping to reassure her.
Relieved, she said. "You're right; I'm just being overly concerned; I guess."
"It's only natural to worry about the pregnancy, but I have faith everything will work out; you should too. Please don't let it bother you."
"I have that faith; I do." She paused. "I'm glad I told you." Sarah smiled, happy to have her cousin involved in her life.

Song Inspiration: You Are Loved (Don't Give Up), Josh Groban.
A/N: Moving on, and giving Sarah and Kyle a family felt right, there were none in the movie, plus her mother whom we never saw was killed. Trauma affects everyone differently. Please comment, a kudo or a favorite would be nice too. Thank you.
