Chapter 5: What We Feel

Now back home:

During the last few days, and after returning to his job at the CIA, Kyle re-introduced himself into the team produced several ways to find Agent Mark Anderson, who they now believed could be tortured. Kyle couldn't believe what's happening. He thought they would be on a mission to capture Mark, bring him back to prison, but now he may be in the hands of the enemy who wanted information from him; the type of information in the wrong hands could destroy them all. Kyle still believed that Mark could be a man from the future like him, but he had no way to prove it was true.

Also, during that time, Sarah had accepted her uncle's apology and his acceptance of Kyle and their impending wedding. He also offered monetary aid, which shocked the couple, but they accepted without reservation. Kyle also mentioned his Mom but because the wedding is a secret, they're planning a dinner after the wedding that same evening. She agreed to come to dinner.

Before the wedding the next day, they finally told John about Kyle, that he's his biological father. John is incredibly happy and attending his parent's wedding seemed unusual but he felt excited for his family.

On the sofa, both thinking about their wedding tomorrow afternoon, Kyle took her hand.

"I have to tell you something and it could change our plans for my decision to reveal myself."

"Oh, dear, what is it?" She braced herself. "Wait before you say anything, I found a place to stay in the country. It's a lodge with two bedrooms and we can stay there the entire summer, meaning a minimum of three months. It's summertime and the sitter will be closed in August for several weeks. It's perfect and not too far from the city and we can commute to work; the motorcycle will come in handy. I'm ready to pack and leave the city."

"That's great, honey." Then he told her about Mark and the need to find him.

"This is not what I wanted to hear, but he's a renegade agent. Why should you risk your life and rescue him? He doesn't deserve it."

"Believe me; I felt the same way, but he didn't start out to do this, to be a renegade, but I'm sure he had his reasons."

She felt stunned to hear this. "I can't believe you're making excuses for him, especially the things he did to you and to this country. He tried to kill you."

"I know he did, but all of that happened before the war. He's a U.S. citizen being tortured in a foreign country. I wouldn't wish that on anyone." He paused. "Sarah, please stay calm but while he and I were friends years ago, I put my trust in him, but it was misguided."

She sighed unsure what to say. "It's your empathy talking and that's one of the reasons I fell in love with you."

"Yes, but all of it wasn't true. He cannot be trusted."

She thought about it. "I believe you."

"God, I hope you're right." He paused. "Can we agree because the team agrees with me and the CIA agrees as well."

She understood. "Please tell me this isn't going to affect the wedding?"

"No, we will get married like we planned, but we only have one night. Plus, I will reveal myself to the CIA before I leave, and I will tell them about Skynet," he replied sadly.

"Only one night; that's it?" She asked, her eyes were sad. "I guess it's better than nothing."

"Come here." He pulled her close, her head under his chin. "We have tonight," he began but she stopped him as she pulled his head down and kissed him. He kissed her back then picked her up and took her to bed.

Sarah grabbed him and kissed him again passionately. This did not surprise Kyle. Sarah was a romantic, emotional, and she appeared ready to make love, and he loved her this way; he had no complaints.

They fell on the bed, then he kissed her deeply finding a response that he wanted and needed and she felt the same. Slanting his lips against hers, then wrapped her arms and legs around him. He briefly came up for air but continued to rain wet kisses down her throat.

"Just a quickie, Kyle," she panted sticking her tongue in his ear. His effect on her felt immediate as she leaned more fully against him and sought his mouth with hers, aching for his kisses. Their kisses increased in intensity.

Minutes later, his hands gripped her bottom, holding her tightly to him as he drove into her, seeking release. They both couldn't get close enough. Kyle's cry of rapture followed hers by mere seconds. His head at the crook of her shoulder, Sarah stroked his hair as she tried to catch her breath. Several moments passed before either of them could speak.

"Are you alright?" Kyle asked.

"I'm fine now," Sarah managed to reply, holding him close.

"I'm ready to get married." He pulled her closer.

"Me too; I can't wait to be your wife." Pulling him closer, she whispered, "When you're holding me like this, nothing and no one can ever come between us; no one."

Kyle nuzzled her throat softly. He kissed her cheek and stroked her hair. "I love you, Sarah."

"I love you too, always."

The next day early morning:

Now in a rush to move, John is at the sitters, but they also stopped at the mall to pick up a nice suit and tie for him. Then at the motel before he checked out, he packed what little clothing he had but he also had guns, several large rifles, small guns and ammunition.

"Where will we keep these?" Sarah asked staring at him adding them to the trunk of their car.

"I checked the basement and there's a room down there with a lock and key. The ammunition will be upstairs in the closet, far away from John. Oh, he needs a dog, not now, but when he's older?"

"Yes, he asked for one, and I agreed, but in a few more years. Now about the guns, are you thinking of teaching him how to use them?" She asked worried.

"Of course, I'll teach him one day," he replied.

Time for a wedding:

The Justice of the Peace had arrived, several flower arrangements; everything appeared ready to go.

"Gentlemen," he greeted the groom and the best man with a handshake. "We'll make this as painless as possible."

"Thank you, Sir," Kyle said, shaking inside.

Kyle and Mitch stood side by side, but then nerves showed up. "I hope we're ready for this."

"You're joking, right? She adores you," Mitch said.

"I know I drive her crazy sometimes," Kyle said.

"That's the best part."

He chuckled, then took a deep breath. "I love her so much and I can't imagine my life without her."

Mitch ducked his head. He would give anything to find a love like that. He looked up at that moment and Dottie's smile hit him hard; standing there ready to begin the ceremony. His heart lifted stunningly his senses.

Dottie stared at Mitch, as her heart lifted only by the look on his face.

The wedding music began. Kyle straightened his tie and jacket. Mitch did the same. They looked handsome in their wedding attire.

Dottie walked inside with generic music playing.

Sarah stood there her heart pounding as she stared at her groom, she thought, this is it.

She took a minute to help John get ready but as the ring bearer, he felt thrilled and ready. "I'm okay, Mom." Then he walked inside slowly in time with the music.

Sarah smiled and watched her son, feeling proud of him.

Now Sarah and Kyle only had eyes for each other. Dottie and Mitch stared at each other until they looked away unsure what was happening. Mitch thought Dottie looked beautiful. Her eyes were twinkling and shining at him. He felt lost in those eyes.

Then the bride's music began, as Sarah walked inside. The photographer, ready as ever, took photos and videos of the ceremony. Kyle and Mitch stood up straighter.

Watching his beautiful bride come forward, Kyle's smile lit up his face, and Sarah thought she had never seen anything as beautiful as that smile. Her heart swelled with emotion. Kyle loved her and she loved him too. She suddenly thought back to everything they had gone through to arrive here at this moment; they were blessed; very blessed indeed.

Sarah returned his smile, her heart felt full, she felt as if it might burst because of her love for him. Happy to think that she had almost given up on all of it, glad she hadn't done it.

Dottie, meanwhile, knew Mitch was staring at her, then she dared to look him in the eye. He smirked at her. She managed not to roll her eyes. She imagined a smile behind that smirk.

Moments later, it's time for the ceremony to begin, everyone excited to see the happy couple get married: John Connor, the ring bearer; Mitch Reese, the best man; and the maid of honor, Dottie Connor.

Once the bride arrived at the altar, Kyle thought she never looked more beautiful.

The Justice began the ceremony. "Who gives this woman to be married?"

"I do," John replied then he took a seat close to the bride's area.

Kyle stepped forward then Sarah took his arm. They smiled at each other, incredibly happy.

The Justice of the Peace continued the ceremony: "A wedding is the celebration of the miracle of love. Sarah and Kyle, we celebrate this miracle in your lives. Here are a few inspiring words that define the true meaning of Love and marriage:

"Love is patient and kind; Love is not jealous or boastful; Love is not arrogant or rude; Love does not insist on its own way; Love does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices with the right; Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things; and Love never fails."

"Learning to love each other and to live together in harmony is one of the greatest challenges of marriage. Marriage is not to be entered into lightly, and we are to hold it in high honor at all times."

"We are gathered here today to see the union of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. If anyone can show just cause why they should not be joined together in holy matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace." He paused for effect. "Sarah and Kyle have chosen to speak their own vows." He turned to the groom. "Kyle?"

After Sarah handed Dottie her bouquet, he took her hands in his then Kyle spoke from his heart:

"Sarah, you have captivated me, inspired me, and have filled me with joy. You are beautiful, fun, creative, and caring. With you, I've found the warmth of understanding, caring words to cheer me on when I'm blue, the support I need when life gets too demanding, and encouragement for things I plan to do. With you, I've found contentment and fulfillment, a closeness based on trust and honesty – I need you and I love you – very dearly – with you is where I want to be."

The Justice turned to the bride. "Sarah?"

Sarah spoke from her heart:

"Kyle, you have been my best friend, mentor, confidant and my greatest challenge. But most importantly, you are the love of my life and you make me happier than I could ever imagine and more loved than I ever thought possible. You have made me a better person, as our love for one another is reflected in the way I live my life. So, I am truly blessed to be a part of your life, which as of today, becomes our life… together."

They both smiled holding back tears.

"Now, we will have the exchanging of the rings." The Justice looked to John, then he blessed the ring.

"With this ring, I thee wed," Kyle said, and slipped the ring on Sarah's finger.

The Justice turned to Dottie, then he blessed the ring.

"With this ring, I thee wed," Sarah said, and slipped the ring on Kyle's finger.

"As far as Sarah and Kyle have spoken their vows each to the other, and have exchanged rings, by the power vested in me by this state, I now pronounce them husband and wife. Kyle, you may kiss your bride."

He lifted her veil, took Sarah into his arms and kissed her sweetly. She put her arms around his neck and kissed him back loving the feel of her husband as they both didn't seem to want to stop.

After Kyle kissed his bride, Sarah hugged her cousin, bought her bouquet, Mitch and Kyle shook hands. Then Sarah and Kyle smiled at each other, and holding hands, turned and walked out as Mr. and Ms. Kyle Reese. The wedding group followed them.

After the ceremony, early evening:

While John was settled in his room watching a Disney movie with take-out food, Kyle walked in with more ice and ready to eat. Everyone has changed into more comfortable clothing. Dottie and Beatrice were already there. Mitch was on his way.

"Hi, Mom, welcome to our home." He kissed her cheek.

'I'm happy to be here and congratulations on your marriage. Oh, I brought gifts, and John is the cutest," Beatrice said.

He chuckled. "Thanks Mom. Hey Dottie, how are you?"

"Hi, Kyle; I'm fine; glad you could make it." She gave him a look and sipped her drink.

"Yeah, me too," he said then walked into the kitchen. "Hi, Sarah. Has he called?"

"No, and we're almost ready to eat. Should we start without him?"

Kyle sighed and glanced at his watch. The food is ready: baked chicken, vegetables, potato chunks, and apple pie for dessert. Just then, the doorbell and a knock came to the door.

"It's him." He opened it and Mitch walked in. He looked nice, wearing a sports coat, slacks, and a button-down shirt opened at the neck.

"Good evening," Mitch said and shook his hand.

"Right on time," Kyle said. Once inside, Mitch stopped and stared at the beautiful woman sitting on the sofa drinking wine." He came closer and kissed his Mother's cheek. "Hey Mom, I'm happy you made it."

"Hi Mitch, you look nice," Beatrice said.

"Thanks Mom." Still distracted by Dottie's stunning beauty. "You must be Dottie?"

She glanced around. "Well, yes, it appears that I am." She held out her hand. "Dorothy, but everyone calls me Dottie?" She smiled.

He chuckled and shook her hand. "Mitchell Reese; you can call me Mitch."

They stared at each other. He sat down beside her but not too close. They saw each other at the wedding and assumptions were made.

Kyle glanced at his wife; she did not look pleased, but she brought everyone glasses of wine. "Wine?" Sarah asked Mitch, but he wasn't listening. "Mitch!"

"Oh, sorry," he said and took the glass from her.

"Dinner will be ready in five minutes," Sarah announced and returned to the kitchen.

Kyle followed her and whispered in her ear. "We cannot predict these things."

She sighed and handed him a dish of vegetables. "I know."

At the dinner table, it was time to eat, then they bowed their heads. Kyle said grace, then they began their meal. During dinner, Mitch executed the conversation, talking about his investments, and how much money he made last week.

Dottie seemed bored only because he's entirely too attractive and rich. She made it a point never to get involved with someone like him, but to listen to him, it seemed to her as if he were covering up his feelings.

"And you enjoy your work?" Dottie asked, hoping to feel him out.

"Yeah, most of the time," he replied.

"What else do you like to do, I mean, besides work?"

"Not much else."

"That's kind of sad."

"Not truly; I do like to read and I like to write sometimes."

That was a surprise. "Since when?" Kyle asked.

"Since I was fifteen. Our parents knew about my writing, but I never mentioned it to you."

"That is true." Beatrice chimed in her thoughts.

Kyle swallowed with difficulty. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"You were at college, plus it didn't seem that important," Mitch replied head down chewing his food.

Kyle and Sarah glanced at each other, surprised at this side of Mitch.

"What type of stories do you write, poems, novels?" Dottie asked.

"You wouldn't be interested," he replied and took a bite of potatoes.

"Go on; tell us?" She asked and waited.

"Mysteries, suspense, drama… stuff like that."

"I love those things too," Dottie said.

Mitch's head came up at that. "You do?"

"Sure; are you published?"

"No, not truly," he replied.

"I could help with that; if you're serious about it?" Sarah asked.

Mitch didn't know what to think; how to feel. "I guess it's worth a shot."

"Great; I'll call a few friends."

"Thanks, Sarah."

"No problem. Now, anyone for dessert?"

Dottie and Mitch glanced at each other, both thinking about dessert and other thoughts.

After a short visit with John, they escorted Beatrice to her car, while Mitch and Dottie stood by her car chatting about who knows what.

Kyle and Sarah headed back inside. They had one more night and they made the most of their wedding night.

Early morning at the house:

After they dropped off Kyle at the CIA building; Sarah is now back home and John went back to sleep. She had planned to head to the lodge to check-in at Noon. Now, their bags in the trunk of the car ready to head out. She was waiting to hear from Kyle about the mission, but then the front door opens and Kyle was there but she felt stunned.

She stood up and came closer. "Kyle, what are you doing here? What about the mission; what happened?"

"It's cancelled. I found out that it's the truth about Mark. He's a man from the future like me."

"What did you say? Mark is like you?"

"Let us sit down and I'll tell you everything I heard." He paused. "You see, as I told you, Mark and I were friends at Quantico, but the war happened and he was sent back here the same as me, but in the different timeline."

"Okay, I see, but in a different timeline, but I don't understand." She couldn't believe it.

"I'm not the only one who volunteered to return to the past. As I told you, the future is horrible, the way we live only to survive the machines, it's no way to live. There has to be a way to change the future."

"Yes, you told me; change the future. But the team, are they still going without you and will your team find him?"

"The team has ideas, but to travel across the world to find him, it makes no sense, not to me."

She hugged him close for a minute. "I'm happy you decided to stay here with me and John."

He pulled away. "There was another reason why I decided not to go."

"What was it?"

"The dream about the terminator, I couldn't forget it. I had another dream in a place I didn't recognize and I felt trapped. I didn't see a terminator like before but the feeling of being alone and extremely afraid, not like the other dream."

She understood. "Being faraway alone and feeling trapped, you had a feeling?"

"Yes, but the feeling wouldn't go away, then I decided to stay."

She pulled him close. "I'm happy you're here."

"Me too."
