"Hi guys." Kara called as she and her daughter came to pick up Chewie the next evening.

"Did you bring food?" MJ asked coming downstairs.

"Was I meant to?" Kara asked confused.

"Well, I was hoping. Kara and Diz went to get some hours ago and still aren't back."

"Should we be worried?" Kara asked frowning as she took out her phone and sent a message to her niece.

When her phone buzzed with a reply MJ asked. "Well?"

"They are nearly home." Kara said. "And she wants to remind you that you could have gone for food instead of them."

"She was left in charge. That includes being in charge of feeding me." MJ said as the front door opened. "Finally." He said.

"What's that?" The older Kara asked as her niece and Diz carried several bags into the house.

"Food." The teenage Kara said.

"Doesn't look it." Kara said expecting a pizza box.

"This is what food looks like before it's turned into dinner." The teenage Kara said.

"Wait, you're cooking?" MJ asked. "That will take hours. Tell me there is real food in that bag."

"It's all real food." Kara said. "If you want to eat quickly you can peel the vegetables." The suggestion causing MJ to walk to the front door.

"Where are you going?" The older Kara said.

"Your place. You must have food there."

"Is mom back?" The teenage Kara asked once MJ had gone.

"No. And the message I just got said to eat without her."

"Where's your mom?" Kara asked the next morning as she and her daughter walked into the kitchen where her niece was finishing breakfast.

"Gone to work." The teenage Kara replied.

"Already?" Kara asked looking at a clock.

"She said she had loads of paperwork to do." The teen said as MJ appeared with his bag ready to go.

"You are uncharacteristically enthusiastic about school." His aunt commented.

"Have to brag about the Games Expo." He pointed out grabbing a slice of toast off his sister's plate.

"Ready?" He asked his cousin.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" His sister asked his aunt.

"Sure. Why don't you two go on ahead?" The older Kara suggested to her daughter and MJ.

"See you later." The teenage Alex said hugging her goodbye.

Once they were gone Kara asked "What's wrong?"

"I'm worried about mom."

"Why?"

"I think she is sick." The teen said.

"What? Why?"

"She got home about one this morning but at three she was hurling."

"I'll talk to her." Kara promised her.

"Did you even make it home last night?" Supergirl asked entering Alex's office that morning.

"Yes." Alex confirmed.

"Sure it wasn't more like this morning?"

"I don't know." Alex said.

"Want to tell me what's going on?"

"What do you mean?" Alex asked looking up, her tiredness obvious.

"You are sick. Kara told me about the throwing up."

"That was from trusting food that was past its best." Alex shrugged. "I'm fine now."

"You sure?"

"I'm sure."

"Because you don't look it."

"Thanks."

"I mean it. You look terrible and you are working far too hard. Plus you are doing it alone."

"After what happened you need to focus on Alex." The older Alex said. "And I am not working alone. I have a team here to help. Plus most of it is desk work."

"But not all?"

"There may have been a couple of stakeouts. But that involved sitting in a car. So wasn't particularly dangerous."

"You should have called me."

"You need to spend time with Alex."

"I do, but your kids need you too." Kara reminded her.

"I know. But it won't be for much longer." Alex said as Harris entered the office.

"Ma'am we have hit."

"On what?" Alex asked.

"Spiders."

"You found them?" Supergirl asked.

"Not exactly, but we have a lead. We are following the food."

"What?" Alex asked.

"Well, spiders eat insects and spiders that size will eat a lot of insects. So we have been following the bugs. As well as frogs and small birds, which normal big orb spiders eat. Over the last few weeks farmers have been complaining about the change of wildlife in this area." Harris said pointing to a map. "Plus people have been reporting less frogs and birds in their gardens. And there have been an increased number of missing pets. We have sent some teams to the area, pretending to be from utility companies to investigate."

"Want me to fly over there?" Supergirl asked.

"No, you may draw attention to yourself. But if the teams don't find anything I'll have them fake an accident so that you have a reason to go over there." She then looked at Harris and said. "Let me know if they find anything."

Nodding the Agent left and Supergirl asked.

"So what do you want me to do?"

"Go to CatCo. Something tells me when this sets off you aren't going to have much time for CatCo."

"And you? Tell me you are coming home tonight?"

"I'll be back late. I've got a school thing."

Standing by the school entrance the teenage Kara sent another email to her mother, once again getting no response. Unsure if she should be angry or worried she sent a message out to everyone else in the family to see if they knew where her mother was. Getting negative replying she tossed her phone in her bag and entered the school. Arriving at the office just before her appointed slot.

"Come in." The careers advisor said before noticing Kara was there by herself.

"Where's your mother?"

"She couldn't make it."

"Although this meeting is about you we prefer a parent to be present, it is easier with their support." The careers advisor said.

"I know." The teenage Kara said having no idea where her mother was.

"Sorry I'm late." The older Kara said bursting into the office.

"You are not Alex Danvers." The advisor said.

"No, I'm her sister or mother depending which one you are talking about." Kara said sitting next to her niece. "Sorry, traffic was terrible."

"Why are you here?" The advisor asked.

"To support Kara."

"And where is her mother?"

"Work. Couldn't get out of it. So I'm here." Kara said.

"And you are okay with this?" He asked the teen.

"Yes."

"Very well." He said opening Kara's file. Skimming the information he asked. "Do you know what colleges you are thinking of applying for?"

"Princeton or Yale maybe." The teen said.

"Well your SAT score was exceptionally high and puts you in contention for any school. What may let you down is your extra curricular activities. You do debate club but that doesn't really stand out. Like we discussed last year to sell yourself you need to make yourself unique. Yet you seem to have not done much. You have a very powerful story to tell. You have overcome adversary, you could use that experience."

"You want me to exploit the worst night of my life and use it as a selling point?" The teen asked angrily.

"No. Not exactly. But how you recovered from it is a credit to you and-" He started. As the older Kara saw her niece grow angrier she suddenly chipped in.

"Martial arts."

"What?" The advisor said.

"She had taken up Martial Arts, outside of school."

"That's something, make sure you include it in your essay." He said.

"Where's mom?" The teen asked as she left the school with her aunt.

"I don't know. I can't get hold of her. Vasquez said she was working on something."

"So she forgot about tonight?"

"Or something came up." The older Kara said.

"If it did, you would you know." The teen said.

"Let's get some dinner." Kara said leading them into a restaurant.

"I'm not hungry." The teen said.

"You need to eat and we have lots to talk about."

"Like what?"

"College essays. And what is an exceptionally high SAT score?"

"1578." The teen said.

"Are they still out of 1600?"

"Yeah."

"How did I not know that?"

"I took it before you came to Earth." The teen shrugged.

"We should have celebrated." The adult Kara said.

"It's fine."

As Alex entered the house in the early hours she saw her daughter was watching TV in the lounge.

"Why are you still up? It's a school night." Alex asked.

"Waiting for you." The teen said.

"Everything okay?" Alex asked frowning.

"You tell me."

"Tell you what?"

"Where were you tonight?" The teen pressed.

"Working."

"But not on something world ending? I mean Aunt Kara was with me."

"No, it wasn't world ending." Alex said wondering where her daughter was going.

"So you weren't trapped at work?"

"No."

"So you just forgot?" The teen asked standing.

"Forgot what?" Alex asked before remembering. "Oh, Kara. I'm sorry."

"Whatever. I'm going to bed." The teen said walking off.

Sitting down Alex looked at her phone and realised it was off. Turning it on she saw a deluge of messages, from her daughter and sister and felt more guilty by the minute.
