Jennifer Baratta - I'm glad you liked it

Guest- to be honest I don't know what my writing plans are after this.

"Where's your mom?" Alex asked the next morning when her niece entered the kitchen alone.

"At home. She said she'd be over soon."

"Is she okay?" Alex asked.

"She's really angry."

"Can you blame her?" The older Alex asked.

"No. But I don't want her doing anything she'll regret."

"I'll keep an eye on her." Alex assured her. "How are you doing?"

"Fine."

"So no after effects from yesterday?"

"Not really. Just a little tired still." The teen said as her eldest cousin entered the kitchen.

"Hi Alex." The teenage Kara said walking towards her mother and grabbing some toast.

"Hi." The youngest teen greeted moments before MJ walked in looking half asleep.

"Take it easy today." Alex said to her niece. "And you two look after her."

"Yes mom." MJ said.

"How are you feeling?" Alex asked when her sister entered the kitchen ten minutes later.

"Angry. Violated."

"Alex mentioned you were angry and she is worried you are going to do something stupid."

"Last night I wanted to. But I have calmed down a little."

"If it makes you feel better, Frax helped find you. He really did seem concerned about you."

"So you think he is a good guy?" Kara asked.

"No, but you are probably asking the wrong person." Alex pointed out. "I mean it took months for me to trust you."

"You are definitely in the top three of paranoid people I know." Kara said.

"Who are the other two?" Alex asked.

"Lena and Lex." Kara said factually.

"I don't know how to take that." Alex said before continuing. "What matters now is you are safe. And I want to keep it that way. Seeing it is probably a good idea to keep you away from Duggin and the DEO, want to go on a stakeout?"

"Don't you have little robots to do that?"

"Yes, but sometimes it is best to be there in person." Alex said. "And there will be snacks. My car is already loaded."

"Your car?" Kara asked.

"Yes."

"You are going on a stakeout? Shouldn't you be behind a desk, leading the DEO?"

"As you point out often my job is to look after you." Alex said. "So let's go."

-00-

"I feel like a fraud." Kara said out of the blue as the sisters sat in the car watching a building.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"Duggin and Frax seem to think that Fels and I were effectively married and had some deep connection that meant we shared everything. But I didn't even know his real name and neither of us knew the home planet of the other."

"Just because you both had to keep parts of yourselves locked away doesn't mean there wasn't a special connection." Alex pointed out.

"Not as special as they are making out." Kara said.

"Do you think he did tell you something?"

"No. What was it I was meant to have anyway?"

"Frax was a little vague, but it basically sounded like a method of hacking into any Drakan computer. If it makes you feel better Frax said he didn't believe Fels had taken them."

"I don't know what I feel right now. Or what I should feel. But what if Duggin was right and Fels was involved somehow?" Kara asked. "What if he used what he found to hack some systems and what if he found information there that made him run away?"

"Kara, I don't think you will ever find the answer to what happened to him and why he was on the run."

"Someone is inside." Kara said using her x-ray vision to look into the building. "Many people are inside."

"How?" Alex asked. "We have watched the building all morning."

"No idea." Kara said as several motorbikes pulled up outside the main entrance. "What do you want to do?"

"Can you listen in from here?"

"Of course."

"Do it." Alex said opening a box and pulling out several small metal objects. She then opened the car window and sent them on their way, watching on her computer and they flew to the bikes and attached themselves. Knowing better than to interrupt her sister she silently waited for the door to open and the bike riders to leave before asking.

"Well?"

"Bike guys have just bought a truck of designer shoes for next to nothing. They will be ready for them a week on Thursday. And I have the make and model of the shoe."

"Good, we'll try to figure out where the shipment is coming from." Alex said as Kara said.

"They've gone again."

"Any idea where?"

"Down. Are there any old subway lines we don't know about?"

"I'll get Harris to check." Alex said looking at her screen checking the bikers were being tracked. Content the bugs were doing their job Alex said. "Where to?"

"CatCo." Kara replied as Alex started the car.

"You sure you want to go to CatCo?" Alex asked.

"More like I need to go. I have a really important deadline." Kara said. "But can you watch Alex and if she needs me for anything call."

"Of course." Alex said. "But are you going to be okay?"

"I will be." Kara said.

"Let me know when you'll be back and I'll make sure there is food." Alex offered.

"I will. And Alex. Thanks for today. I needed it."

"You do remember you work here then?" Cat asked when she saw Kara sitting at her desk in the deserted and darkened office.

"Cat? What are you doing here?" She asked looking up, before seeing Cat's expression and adding. "I mean so late."

"There is something relaxing about prowling the office, terrorising the least suspecting." Cat said. "Why are you here?"

"I'm trying to finish this article."

"You have not typed for thirty minutes. You have just stared blankly at the screen. And you have just sat still as three fire trucks drove pass."

"What?"

"It's okay, some of the Metas you helped are at the scene assisting. So why are you so distracted and where have you been?"

"Someone else from Dakran showed up and kidnapped me. Then they planted memories into my head, memories of Alex dying. They were so real." She said drifting off as she lost herself to the memory. After a while she said. "Alex, my sister, got me out along with Alex's uncle, but I still see those memories. I was so convinced it was real that when I saw Alex I refused to believe it and attacked her."

"Is she okay?" Cat asked.

"Yes. Alex and J'onn protected her. But it could have been different." Kara said.

"And the person who attacked you?"

"Locked up at the DEO."

"What persuaded you that this was real and what you saw wasn't?"

"Alex. My Alex, she can project memories and feelings into someones head. So she projected her memories from when I tried attacking her. It was her feelings that brought me back."

"How are you doing now?"

"Angry, lost, scared." Kara listed.

"Go home and see your daughter. It will make you feel better." Cat said.

"I can't. I need to finish the article."

"Kara, I already assumed you would miss the deadline. You have another week. Go home."

-00-

"Hi." Kara said entering her sister's house.

"I thought you were working late?" Alex said.

"Cat gave me an extension and sent me home."

"Well great timing, we are about to eat."

"Mom? Are you okay?" The teenage Alex asked coming down the stairs.

"I'm fine." Kara said hugging her.

"Are you staying?"

"I am." Kara confirmed as three other teens came down stairs.

"Seeing there are now six of us, how about Games Night with three teams?" Alex suggested.

"Yeah, but you two can't pair up." The teenage Kara said looking at the two adults.

"I've got mom." MJ jumped in.

"After your failure last time, brave call." His sister said.

"Do I want to stay for this?" Diz whispered to the teenage Kara.

"You'll be fine." She replied as the adult Alex said.

"Especially if you like losing."

-00-

"Okay, you two are up." The adult Alex said looking at her sister and niece.

"Mom?" The teen asked noticing her mother was staring into space.

"What?" Kara asked snapping back to the present.

"You okay?" Her sister asked frowning.

"I'm fine." Kara said, although her eyes looked haunted.

"Why don't we take a break?" Alex suggested, not believing her sister. She then looked at her two children and Diz and said. "Why don't you get some more ice cream?"

"Sure." Her daughter said taking the hint, taking Diz by the hand and leading him out followed by MJ.

"What's going on?" The teenage Alex asked looking at her mother.

"Nothing." Kara said hugging her tightly. "I'm sorry, I just spaced out for a minute." She added finally releasing her daughter who muttered.

"You suck at lying."

"I'm not lying." Kara said. "I did space out."

"I think it is the you being okay, we are doubting." The older Alex said.

"For a minute I was back in the other memory, but I am in this reality now. And knowing you are here, makes me okay." Kara said hugging her daughter again.

"You want to do something else tonight?" The older Alex asked.

"No. Games Night is good." Kara said before looking at the score board. "That score isn't though."

"Yeah, you suck tonight." Her sister pointed out. "Alex is carrying you."

"I'm not that bad."

"Yeah you are." Both Alexes said.

"Sorry." Kara said to her daughter before releasing her again. "We'll win the next round."

"No you won't." Her sister said. "It's general knowledge and you were away from Earth for nearly twenty years and Alex hasn't even be here a year."

"I still beat MJ last time." The teenage Alex pointed out.

"See, we have a chance. If there are question on TV shows we will win." Kara said.

"In your dreams." Her sister said as they heard the front door open.

"We have ice cream and potstickers." The younger Kara said handing her aunt a bag.

"Have I told you recently you are my favourite niece?" The older Kara said breaking into the potstickers.
