Welcome back to Uncharted Beyond Realms. Last time, Cynder and Nathan Drake had a heart to heart about her relationship status with Spyro, and discovered that it's rockier than expected due to Cynder's career choice. Don't worry, we will hear Spyro's side of the discussion when it becomes relevant. But for now, there's a mission to get to. So, how's everything going to go from this point? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes outside the fortress of Concurrent Skies, where Nathan Drake is rejoining Spyro, Sully, and Elena, just about ready to head towards their destination)
Spyro: So, how'd talking with Cynder go?
Nathan Drake: She's agreed that she'll be there if we need aid.
Spyro: (With a sigh) Chances are she just doesn't want to see me right now.
Elena: Spyro, even I doubt that's what it is.
Spyro: This isn't the first time this has happened. She just needs to be away from me.
Elena: (Thinks about something) You know what? Maybe I should just stay back and try to talk Cynder into coming with us.
Spyro: (Now appearing more depressed) Sure, that makes sense.
(At this point, Nathan Drake pulls Elena aside and the two start talking)
Nathan Drake: I think that just made him feel worse.
Elena: (Looking at him) Yeah, in retrospect, probably not the best idea.
Nathan Drake: So why are we still going through with it?
Elena: Twofold. One, I might be able to get Cynder to open up more to this idea.
Nathan Drake: And two?
Elena: I guess my logic was, since Spyro's in a rocky relationship patch, I didn't want us to throw him off.
Nathan Drake: Because our relationship is going so well?
Elena: Pretty much. (Looks back towards the depressed Purple Dragon) But I guess I had the opposite effect.
Nathan Drake: Something tells me he won't be talked out of it now.
Elena: Doesn't make me feel any better. (Sighs) Well, good luck out there.
(Within a few seconds of this, Spyro, Sully, and Nathan Drake are on their way to the Mountain of Malefor. At which point, Nathan Drake decides to broach the subject of what just happened before they left)
Nathan Drake: You feeling okay, Spyro? You seemed awfully depressed when we left.
Spyro: (Sighs) Just... getting used to reality, I guess.
Sully: What are you getting at?
Spyro: First Cynder and I start fighting, now your friend doesn't even want to be around me. Am I that repulsive to women?
Nathan Drake: What? No. Not even remotely.
Spyro: Then what am I doing wrong?
Nathan Drake: Well, as far as Cynder's told me, she just feels like you don't want her to be happy.
Spyro: (Completely caught off guard) That's what she thinks?
Nathan Drake: At least that's how she's taking your reactions to her chosen profession.
Spyro: It's not that I don't want her to be happy. That's the only thing I want, believe me. It's just...
Nathan Drake: Just what?
Spyro: I just... I don't know how to describe it. I guess... I just want to protect her.
Sully: She seems more than capable of doing that herself, mac.
Spyro: Physically, sure. But you know what happened to Cynder during the war, right?
Nathan Drake: Yeah, we know the whole Terror of the Skies thing.
Spyro: There are still plenty of people out there who hate her. I know deep down she's not past it, but has put up one heck of a facade. I knew her being in so public a place as the Guard would draw them out of the woodwork.
Nathan Drake: So that's why you tried to convince her to settle down somewhere quiet.
Spyro: (As tears roll down his face and blow away in the wind) I was just looking out for her. But I guess I was misguided.
Nathan Drake: Have you and Cynder talked about this?
Spyro: (Thinks about it) Not that I can recall.
Nathan Drake: Well, when we get back, you might want to.
Spyro: (Looks out to their destination) Assuming we get back, that is.
(And with that, the three finally get a glimpse of their destination, the crumbling ruins of a mountain with a dragon's gaping maw for a summit. The Mountain of Malefor awaits, as our tale ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to end for now. So, now we've heard both sides of why Spyro and Cynder are having a rocky relationship patch right now. But no time for relationship drama coming anytime soon, as we're about to head straight into the old nightmare, The Mountain of Malefor. So, what awaits in the crumbling ruins? Read on to discover...
