Welcome back to Uncharted Beyond Realms. Last time, after Elena decided to stay behind and try to talk further with Cynder, Spyro, Nathan Drake, and Sully set off for the Mountain of Malefor, and along the way, we learned Spyro's side of the story as to why he and Cynder are in a rough patch right now. But no time for drama coming along any time soon, we've got some exploring to do! So how's that going to go? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up at the surface of the Mountain of Malefor, where Spyro, Nathan Drake, and Sully have landed and are looking upon the ruined mountain with a mixture of awe and terror.)
Nathan Drake: So this is where it started.
Spyro: Yeah. The spot where Malefor pushed his rage into the land, creating this dark mountain. (With a thousand yard stare starting to emerge) The horrors that took place here. I can only imagine, and I really don't want to.
Sully: (Realizing what's about to happen) Spyro, keep it calm. You're going to be okay.
Spyro: (Snapping back to reality) Huh? (Realizes what happened) Oh, sorry about that. Just... I've got a history with this place. We all do.
Nathan Drake: Are you sure you want to go forward with this?
Spyro: Last I checked, you two don't know your way around this place. It's necessary that either Cynder or I be present in that case. And, well, we all know why it's just me.
Sully: Fair point.
Nathan Drake: So... where to then?
Spyro: No idea for certain.
Nathan Drake: Surely you have a hunch.
Spyro: I... might.
Sully: Well, don't keep us in suspense, bud.
Spyro: It could have been in the very heart of the mountain. Where the beam containing Malefor's soul was.
Nathan Drake: Wait, if that beam was there, how could anybody have snuck it in?
Spyro: After the mountain collapsed, anything would have been theoretically possible.
Sully: Well, it's worth a try.
Spyro: In that case, follow me. And stay close. We don't know what evils still lurk here.
(With that, the group set off into the depths of the mountain, staying pretty close to one another, and no doubt unnerved. Some of the rocks shift, sending Nathan Drake into defensive position, thinking something's following them before he realizes nothing's there)
Nathan Drake: This place is starting to get to me.
Spyro: It shouldn't be far from here.
Sully: That was... weirdly fast.
Nathan Drake: Yeah, it really was.
Spyro: Well, there's still obstacles to overcome.
Sully: Like what?
Spyro: (Points directly ahead of them) Like that.
(And soon enough, we see it, a giant falls of whatever green liquid oozes from this evil mountain, with rocky platforms suspended within it.)
Nathan Drake: And here I thought I'd seen it all.
Spyro: It was worse when I was a kid. Those damn things were moving back then. At least now I can fly up to the top.
Nathan Drake. Then, wait, what's keeping them up?
Sully: No idea, but don't question it Nate. If it makes this madness any easier, I'm all for it!
Nathan Drake: Can't really argue with that.
Spyro: I'll meet you two up there.
(And as Spyro takes off, Nathan Drake and Sully start ascending the stone platforms. There's a few near misses, but for a while things appear to be going well. Until stepping on one of the platforms about midway up, where, for some reason, the platforms start to move again.)
Nathan Drake: Sprint for it!
(With no hesitation in their steps, Nathan Drake and Sully work their way up the falling platforms. Sully makes his way to the top first, impressive for his age. But Nathan Drake isn't very lucky. As he leaps the platform drops, and his trajectory won't allow him to make it. But in that moment, Spyro reaches down and grabs Nathan Drake's hand, pulling him up)
Nathan Drake: Thanks, Spyro. That was a close one.
Sully: You're telling me. You almost gave me a heart attack!
Spyro: Is everything good now?
Sully: (Checks his heart rate) Back to relatively normal for my age.
Spyro: Good. We're almost there.
(And with that, the trio continue on, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. Apparently this section of the level is one of the more annoying portions of the Well of Souls in The Eternal Night. Wouldn't know from experience, haven't made it there yet, and I have the DS version, so I have no idea if it's different from the console versions on there. Anyways, all that aside, it looks like the boys have almost made it. But will they be in time? Or has the enemy already arrived? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
