Heading for his first gym battle in Centros, Davis is on his way. Joining him is a trainer named Tetsu, followed by the first pokemon that Davis caught: Poochyena.
"Here you go. Eat up." Davis said as he gave Poochyena some food and Poochyena scarfed it all down. Tetsu was enjoying their little break as well with him next to the river and relaxing with Kingler and Tentacool.
"Hey, Davis. Have you thought about what you're going to do about your upcoming gym battle?" Tetsu asked. "Do you even know what kind of gym it is?"
"Nope, but that's never stopped me before." Davis said. He was feeling good about it, but Tetsu just thought he was being silly and a little irresponsible.
"You're hopeless." Tetsu said. "I find it hard to believe you did well in really any big leagues."
"Hey! You've seen what I can do!" Davis said as he was greatly offended by Tetsu's statement. "What you want another battle for me to prove it?"
"I'm not denying you're strong, but I just don't see how considering you don't seem to put much thought into what you're doing." Tetsu said.
"Well, no one asked you to come around. If you don't like the way I do things, you can leave whenever you like." Davis said as he doesn't want someone around that's not going to be supportive.
"I don't like babysitting, but I should at least make sure you get to Pennsila City. You be lost without me." Tetsu claimed. The two of them kept arguing about the whole thing and it looked like it be a while. However, Imperialdramon spotted something in the river.
"Hey. What's that?" Imperialdramon said as he pointed to it. They all looked and saw something purple floating down the river. A closer look shows that it's a Venonat. When it was close enough, Tentacool got a hold of it and pushed it towards the water.
"It's a Venonat." Tetsu said as he pulled it out of the river. That was when he noticed a bad bruise on Venonet's head. "Oh man! This Venonat needs help!"

(Davis' Voice) Purple Brutal
"Venonat, the Insect Pokemon. A bug and poison-type. Venonat's eyes can be used like radar, allowing it be active at night, and those same eyes can shoot powerful beams."
"Sure hope it's okay." Davis said as he put his pokedex away.
"I got a little first aid that might be able to help." Tetsu said as he tried his best to treat the bruise on Venonat. "Hopefully, it will do something to help it. I wonder what happened to it."
"Maybe it got caught in an intense battle or something." Davis said. Either way, this pokemon needed help and that's what they're doing. Just then, Poochyena heard something and turned to it. "Poochyena? What is it?" They all looked and saw a woman with short blonde hair and wearing traveler gear and a hat came out of the bushes.
"Venonat! There it is!" She said as she ran straight to it. "I'm glad it's okay. Did you boys find it?"
"We did, just now. Is this your Venonat yours?" Tetsu asked.
"No. It's a wild pokemon, but I saw what happened to it." The woman said.
"I'm sorry, but who are you?" Davis asked. It was then that she realized her brashness.
"Oh... I'm sorry. I should introduce myself."
"Wel, my name is Davis and these two are Imperialdramon and Poochyena."
"I'm Tetsu, and my partners are Tentacool and Kingler."
"My name is Fenta. I was out here doing botany."
"Botany? What is that?" Davis questioned.
"Don't you know anything? It's the study of plants." Tetsu mocked. "So, what happened to this Venonat?"
"Yes. The truth is that there's a problem going on around here that's been happening for a while." Fenta said. "You see, there's a flowery field not that far from here. The flowers provide nectar that many pokemon love to eat. However, there are a few pokemon that are acting like bullies and took over the area."
"What pokemon?" Davis asked.
"There's a Trubbish, a Serviper, and the leader is a Scolipede." Fenta said.
"Those three are all poison-types, just like this Venonat." Tetsu acknowledged.
"Yes. I went to study the flowers when I heard a commotion going on." Fenta claimed as she remembered what she saw. She was on her way to that field when she saw Venonat was being chased by the three pokemon. It was like the poor victim trying to escape their school bullies. The three of them kept attacking Venonat until Venonat got hit by Scolipede's Rock Slide. The attack knocked Venonat into the river and it floated away with those other three pokemon laughing at it. "When I saw Venonat fall in the water, I tried chasing after it and that's how I ended up here."
"So, this happened recently." Tetsu said.
"Bunch of jerks." Davis said. Just as he looked down at Venonat, Venonat was starting to wake up as it sat up.
"Veno? Venonat?"
"Hey. Look at who is awake." Davis said. All of them saw Venonat was awake and was glad to see it was going to be all right. Venonat tried to stand up, but nearly fell over after feeling dizzy. "Hey. Easy there." He said as he held Venonat up.
"Venonat, you're hurt. You need to take it easy." Tetsu said.
"We know about what happened. Care to explain a little more." Imperialdramon said. Venonat started talking to Imperialdramon with Imperialdramon understanding all of it. "Venonat says that it was just trying to sneak some of the nectar to have a taste, but those three bullies spotted Venonat and attacked."
"You can understand what Venonat is saying? What kind of pokemon are you?" Tetsu questioned.
"Uh... One of the best." Imperialdramon said.
"Rotten punks and bullies." Davis said as this was making him angry. "What's the big idea trying to keep the good stuff for yourself? Venonat, let's get those punks."
"Veno?! Venonat!" Venonat seemed to refuse the idea and just ran off.
"Hey! Where are you going?!" Davis called.
"It just got attacked and you asked for it to fight back? Not very smart." Tetsu said.
"What do you mean?" Davis questioned.
"This is what happens when people are bullied. They feel a little weak and powerless." Tetsu said. "Bullies like to pick on those they think are weaker than them to make them feel good."
"On top of that, some pokemon can be very aggressive and territorial." Fenta said. "Those three pokemon I mentioned want all that nectar for themselves, and they don't like it when anyone comes around. If you go in there, you'll get attacked just like Venonat did, and Venonat is scared of that happening again."
"I get all that, but the only way bullies learn their lesson is when you stand up to them and show you're not afraid of them." Davis said. "Poochyena, return for right now." He brought Poochyena back in its pokeball and ran off with Imperialdramon following him, determined to help out this Venonat.
"That moron. There he goes running off again." Tetsu said as he was getting annoyed with Davis' actions. Davis and Imperialdramon chased after Venonat because they wanted to help it. They didn't like some pokemon were bullying others and someone needed to stand up to them. As they moved through the forest, they soon found Venonat just standing there.
"There you are, Venonat." Davis said.
"Veno?"
"Listen, I get you're a little scared, but these bullies need to know they can't just push others around. You want whatever is in that flower field, you have as much right as they do." Davis said as he tried encouraging Venonat to battle, but Venonat still looked rather scared to do something like that.
"Davis... Take a look at what's up ahead." Imperialdramon said. Davis looked and spotted the flower field that Fenta talked about earlier. He could also see the trouble in there as he saw Trubbish, Serviper, and Scolipede attacking smaller pokemon and scaring them away from the flowers, laughing at their misery while enjoying some of the nectar from the flowers.
"Those three must be the same ones that Fenta told us about." Davis said. He saw those three enjoying themselves while others were being left out. "That does it. Imperialdramon, let's go teach them a lesson."
"I'm right behind you." Imperialdramon said. The two of them went out to face those bullies with Venonat astonished that those two are actually going out to face those three.
"He! You three!" Davis called and got their attention. "Yeah. I'm talking to you three. Who do you think you are pushing others out of here?"
"Yeah. Who says you three own this place? If you're not going to share, just get out of here." Imperialdramon said.
"Scolipede."
"Oh, we'll make you." Imperialdramon said as he was ready for a battle.
"Imperialdramon, let's drive these guys out of here. Focus Punch!" Davis said. Imperialdramon charged straight at Scolipede and smashed his powered fist right into it. That caused Scolipede to slide back. They clearly weren't going to be pushed around like the others.
"Serviper!"
"Trubbish!"
"You two want some? Wait until I'm done with your leader here." Imperialdramon said as he didn't mind taking on all three. Venonat was watching and was impressed at what they were doing. Scolipede fought back as it used Sludge Bomb at them, but Imperialdramon moved around and avoided each attack. That was right when Fenta and Tetsu showed up.
"There they are!" Tetsu said.
"And it looks like they're battling those bullies! Those are the same pokemon I talked about!" Fenta said. Scolipede kept attacking as it charged at Imperialdramon with Mega Horn.
"Dragon Pulse!" Davis said. Imperialdramon unleashed the attack and blasted Scolipede with it. Scolipede was taking damage, but every creep and punk has a cheat up their sleeve. Scolipede signaled for Serviper and Trubbish to act. "Let's try your Focus Punch again!" Imperialdramon went in and tried to attack, but that was when Serviper stepped in and used Poison Tail against him. That was also when Trubbish jumped in and used Poison Sting against him.
"Hey! Ganging up is no fair! Cowards!" Imperialdramon said. Although, those three didn't seem to care. They just kept attacking him.
"That isn't fair!" Tetsu said.
"That's the point. I'm also afraid all that poison will get to Imperialdramon soon." Fenta said as they didn't like how this was going.
"Venonat! Venonat!" Venonat tried to cheer for Imperialdramon, but that was when Scolipede took notice of Venonat and got a nasty idea.
"Scolipede!" Scolipede told Serviper what to do and it had no problem doing it. Serviper went straight to Venonat and tried attacking it with Poison Tail. Everyone else was shocked at what they were doing, but Davis acted as he jumped in the way and took the attack to protect Venonat.
"Davis!" Imperialdramon shouted in concern.
"How awful!" Fenta said.
"Those creeps! I bet they did that knowing Davis would try to do something like that." Tetsu said as he wasn't liking this at all. Davis got hit hard, but he was able to get back up.
"That was a rotten stunt you tried to pull." Davis said. Tetsu didn't like seeing this, but he wasn't sure what to do. That was when he looked at Venonat and realized something that could help.
"That's it!" Tetsu said as he hurried to Davis. "Davis, use your pokedex on Venonat to try and check it's moves. I have an idea, but Venonat needs to know a particular attack."
"Uh... Okay..." Davis said as he used his pokedex like Tetsu said.
"There! Venonat knows Psybeam, a psychic-type move! That's really strong against poison-types!" Tetsu said.
"Perfect! Venonat, you need to use Psybeam!" Davis said, but Venonat was hesitant to do that. Serviper started down at Venonant and Venonat was too scared to do anything. "Do it, Venonat! I know you can! Stand up to them!" Venonat wasn't sure what to do as it was scared, but that fear caused Venonat to act instead of think. Venonat just acted and used Psybeam with Serviper getting blasted. Even Venonat was surprised at what it just did. It caused some damage to Serviper as Serviper was pushed back to the others. "Imperialdramon, send these guys packing with Dragon Rush!"
"You got it!" Imperialdramon said as he gathered dragon power around him. He took off at great speed and blasted all three of them with it. The three of them couldn't take it and just ran out of there. "Yeah! You three better run!"
"That will teach you not to be so mean to others!" Davis said. "Nice job, Venonat." He said as he petted it. "I knew you had it in you." Even Venonat didn't know it had it in him, but Davis helped bring it out by showing what it means to really stand up for yourself.

Later
"Thank you for your help. Those three won't be coming back." Fenta said as they were getting ready to part ways. "Not only will I be able to continue studying the flowers, but other pokemon can enjoy the nectar again."
"We were glad to help." Davis said.
"Just make sure this doesn't happen again." Tetsu said.
"I will. Best of luck to both of you." Fenta said. Once all was said and done, they hit the road and were heading to Pennsila City. They didn't get very far before Tetsu noticed that they were being followed.
"Hey. Look at that." Tetsu said. Davis and Imperialdramon looked behind them and saw that Venonat was following them. "Venonat? Why is it following us?"
"Venonat! Veno!"
"I get it. Venonat wants to come along with you, Davis." Imperialdramon said. "Venonat wants to become stronger and braver, and might be able to do that with you, Davis."
"Really, Venonat? Of course you can come along." Davis siad as he accepted the offer. Venonat loved hearing that as it ran straight to Davis until it jumped in its arms. It looks like Davis has a new pokemon now and Tetsu is amazed by this.
"Incredible..." Tetsu said as he was quite astonished. "I've never met anyone like him before. Not once, but twice, he caught pokemon by connecting with them instead of battling them." Tetsu was amazed by all of it and was rethinking what he thought of Davis. "I guess he isn't so bad. He might be a knuckle head, but he's got a good heart that loves pokemon."
After showing Venonat that you need to stand up to bullies, Davis gains a new pokemon and friend. They'll reach Pennsila City soon, and soon he will have his first gym battle.
