Davis and Tetsu has arrived in Pennsila City. This will be where Davis plans to win his first gym battle.

"Oh yeah! We made it!" Davis cheered as he and Imperialdramon ran through the streets of Pennsila City. "Time to get back in the action and get my first badge!"

"That's great, but do you even know where the gym is?" Tetsu questioned. That had Davis a little stumped. "Figures. Maybe save the excitement for when we actually get to the gym. Otherwise, you're just wasting energy and annoying everyone." Davis is excited to go, but he still needs to find where the gym is.

"There must be someone who can help us." Imperialdramon said.

"Sandile..." They all looked down and saw a Sandile with a bag of groceries on its back

It's a big big world, but you know where to find me

We'll be together and we're gonna do it our way

We'll discover we believe in each other

On adventures with my friends like every day

And we're already on our way

The journey stars today

(Davis' voice) A Three-Way Type

"Who's that pokemon?" Davis asked.

"That's a Sandile." Tetsu said with Davis reaching for his pokedex.

"Sandile, the Desert Croc Pokemon. A ground and dark type. Sandile move through sand as if they were swimming. It helps them hide and regulate their body temperatures.

"And what it doesn't tell you is that this Sandile is quite the companion." They all were met with Sandile's trainer carrying other groceries. He had brown hair with his bangs curving out over his right and had some hair standing in the back. He wore what looked like a suit but without the jacket. "This is my Sandile, and my closest friend."

"Sandile."

"How about that. A crocodile that's fit for the desert." Imperialdramon said. When he did say that, the trainer took notice of him.

"You can talk?! I've never seen a pokemon like you before!" The trainer said.

"Uh... I'm one of a kind." Imperialdramon said.

"This big guy is named Imperialdramon, and my name is Davis."

"I'm Tetsu."

"A pleasure. My name is Cletus. I must say that Imperialdramon certainly does look special and unique. Where did you get him?"

"Uh... We'll tell you some other time." Davis said. "Anyway, we're kind of in the middle of something. Cletus, you wouldn't happen to know where the gym is, do you?"

"So you want to challenge the Pennsila Gym. No worries. I can take you there." Cletus said as he and Sandile showed the way. After walking down a few streets, they soon arrived at what Cletus is claiming to be the gym. "Here we are."

"Oh yeah!" Davis said and Imperialdramon as the two of them ran right through the door. "I'm here!" He shouted, but it wasn't what he expected. It looked more like a restaurant than a gym, and everyone was looking at them like they were weirdos. "Hold on. What the heck?"

"Are we sure this is the right place?" Imperialdramon questioned.

"Don't be shy. Come on in." Cletus said as he had them all come inside.

"What's this, Cletus? Brining in some new friends?" The guy who stepped in looked like the head chef of the place.

"Something like that, Dad." Cletus said.

"Dad?" Tetsu questioned.

"This is my family's restaurant, and my father is the head chef." Cletus said as he and Sandile handed the groceries. "If you look around, a couple of the waiters are actually my siblings. Is Mom here?"

"Afraid not. She had business to take care of." Cletus' father said.

"But this isn't why we're here." Davis said.

"Well, since your friends of my son, what would you like?" Cletus' father asked. Davis wasn't quite sure what to do about this since a gym battle was what he wanted. At the same time, the girls in the restaurant were talking and laughing thinking he was a little goofy.

"Cletus, what the heck?!" Davis said as he wasn't happy. "You said that this was the Pennsila Gym! I came here for a gym battle!"

"A gym battle?!" The girls inside called as they all sounded excited.

"I see. He's really a challenger." Cletus' father said.

"Come on. Let's get out of here and find the real gym." Davis said as he was ready to leave.

"Just a minute, Davis." Cletus said. "Let me show you something." He snapped his fingers and that was when the back wall lifted up. Behind that revealed a battlefield with a rocky terrain and a room that looked like a miniature forest. "I meant what I said, Davis. This is the gym, and I'm the gym leader." He said with dazzle as the girls swooned.

"You are?!" Davis said as he and the others were shocked to hear this.

"I can't believe we get to see Cletus battle again!"

"He is so dreamy!" The girls were daydreaming about the possibility of another battle.

"Wow. The girls seem to love him." Tetsu stated.

"You should have just said so from the beginning! Come on! Let's battle!" Davis said as he was ready to go.

"Just a moment. Let me show you something." Cletus said as he gestured for Davis to follow. They all walked to a window that showed the small forest. Inside were a bunch of different pokemon. There was a Butterfree, Sliggoo, Corsola, Weepinbell, Voltorb, Snorunt, Mimikyu, Linoone, Lampent, Kadabra, and Cufant.

"Wow... You have a lot of pokemon. Are they all yours?" Davis asked.

"Including Sandile, my trusted partner, yes. I have one pokemon of every type." Cletus said. "You see, my gym works a little differently than most gyms, Davis. We battle using three pokemon, and the one with two wins will be the winner."

"So it's a best two out of three. Sounds simple enough." Davis said.

"But here's the twist." Cletus claimed. "You choose three pokemon types you have. I'll battle you using the same types. We'll battle each other by using the same types."

"The same types?" Davis questioned.

"You only have three pokemon, so you only have to choose the types that go with them." Tetsu simplified.

"In that case, I'll battle you using a bug-type, dragon-type, and dark-type." Davis said.

"Interesting choices, but I'm glad you chose a dark-type. That means I get to battle with Sandile." Cletus said with joy. "I love all my pokemon, but Sandile is my partner. We've been together for a long time."

"Sandile."

"Well, now that we have all that cleared, let's get started." Cletus said as he was ready for a battle and Davis was pumped to get his first badge. The two of them took the positions with the girls acting like a cheer squad up in a higher level with Tetsu watching.

"Okay... Let's see what Davis can really do now." Tetsu said.

"Okay. Who wants to be the referee for this?" Cletus' father asked his friends and employees.

"I'll do it!" One guy dressed just like Cletus, but had regular looking blonde hair stepped forward. "My name is Clyde. I'm actually Cletus' brother. I'll be the referee for this battle."

"Ready. Let's get this started." Davis said.

"The gym battle between Cletus and Davis will now begin! This is a best of three battle!" Clyde said. "The one with two wins will be the victor! The challenger has chosen what types they will be using, so we'll start this battle with bug-type pokemon. If both are ready, you may begin!"

"Butterfree, let's go!" Cletus said as he chose his pokemon.

"Bree!"

"Venonat, you're up!" Davis said.

"Venonat!"

"Both might be bug-types, but Butterfree is also a flying-type. Davis better know what he's doing." Tetsu said.

"So, your bug-type is a Venonat. I'm interested to see what you can do." Cletus said.

"This is our first gym battle in Centros. You're going to see a lot." Davis claimed. "Let's get this party started. Venonat, start out by using Poison Powder!"

"Venonat!" Venonat started shaking its body around and tried releasing a poisonous powder.

"That's it? You'll have to do better than that. Butterfree, let's use Gust!" Cletus said.

"Bree!" Butterfree unleashed a powerful gust that blew right through the powder. The gust kept going and blasted Venonat with it.

"Venonat, are you okay?!" Davis said. That took a lot of damage, but was still able to get back up. "Way to hang in there. Now use Psybeam!"

"Counter with your Psybeam!" Cletus ordered. Both pokemon used the same attack as they both fired a beam from their eyes. The two attacks collided and ended up cancelling each other out.

"Venonat, let's try to confuse them by using Supersonic!" Davis ordered.

"I don't think so. Butterfree, Aerial Ace!" Cletus ordered. Venonat tried unleashing a sonic wave, but Butterfree flew around that at incredible speed and smashed right into Venonat. That was a powerful hit that took Venonat out just like that.

"Venonat is unable to battle, Butterfree is the winner!" Clyde claimed. The first win went to Cletus and that caused his little squad to cheer loudly.

"I must admit that I'm a little disappointed. I expected more." Cletus admitted.

"The battle is far from over." Davis said as he wasn't backing down. They had their pokemon return and got ready for the next battle.

"For the second battle, you will battle using dragon-types." Clyde claimed.

"Here's my dragon-type. Sliggoo, you're up!" Cletus said with him releasing his next pokemon.

"Sliggoo!"

"What exactly is that? A giant snail?" Davis questioned as he pulled out his pokedex.

"Sliggoo, the Soft Tissue Pokemon. A dragon-type, and the evolve form of Goomy. The swirly protrusion on its back carries its organs such as its heart and brain."

"Doesn't look much like a dragon-type, but a battle is a battle. Ready, pal?" Davis said.

"Ready." Imperialdramon said as he walked out on the field.

"So this mysterious pokemon is a fellow dragon-type. I'm interested to see what he can do, but one more loss and I win this battle." Cletus reminded. "Sliggo, Dragon Breath!"

"Dragon Pulse!" Davis said. Sliggoo breathed out a blast, but Imperialdramon countered it with his own. Imperialdramon's attack blasted right through the Dragon Breath and blasted Sliggo with it with Sliggoo hitting a rock. That power was quite astonishing to Cletus. "Now use Focus Punch!" Imperialdramon gathered power in his fist and charged right at Sliggo.

"Use Muddy Water!" Cletus ordered.

"Sliggoo!" Sliggo unleashed a wave of mud right at Imperialdramon. It smashed right into him and was keeping him back.

"You need more than a little mud to stop me!" Imperialdramon said as he flew up in the air and got out of the mud.

"Keep going with Focus Punch!" Davis ordered. Imperialdramon dived down and smashed his fist against Sliggoo.

"Try and use Dragon Breath again!" Cletus said. Sliggo tried to fight back as it unleashed Dragon Breath again.

"Dragon Rush!" Davis ordered. Imperialdramon coated himself in dragon energy and blasted his way through the attack and smashed right into Sliggoo. Sliggoo took a lot of damage from that attack and was taken out from that attack.

"Sliggoo is unable to battle, Imperialdramon is the winner!" Clyde declaired. That didn't go the way his fans wanted, but Tetsu was fine with it.

"Not bad, but dragon-types are affected by other dragon-types." Tetsu said. "I guess the last battle will show everything. Let's see how Poochyena does against Sandile."

"Well, I must admit that I am rather impressed. You sure got one strong pokemon." Cletus said as he brought Sliggoo back in its pokeball while Imperialdramon went back to Davis. "Well, it comes down to one last battle. Let's see if you really have what it takes to win my badge. We now battle using dark-types."

"Bring it on." Davis said as he wasn't backing down.

"Sandile, it's all up to you now!" Cletus said as he released his last pokemon.

"Sandile!" Seeing as how this was Cletus' ace pokemon, Cletus fans were cheering extra loud for him.

"Here's my last pokemon! Poochyena, let's go!" Davis said as he chose his last pokemon.

"Argh!"

"A Poochyena... Let's see how tough this little one is." Cletus said.

"I'm good to go! Poochyena, take it to them with Tackle!" Davis said. Poochyena charged right at Sandile to tackle it hard.

"Sandile, Dig!" Cletus said. Sandile started digging into the ground and caused Poochyena to miss. Poochyena wasn't sure where it was going to come up from until Sandile shot out straight from under Poochyena and sent Poochyena flying.

"Hang in there, Poochyena! Go at it with Bite!" Davis ordered. Poochyena managed to pull itself together and land on its paws. When that happened, Poochyena charged right at Sandile to litterally take a bite out of it.

"Use Dig again!" Cletus ordered. Sandile started digging and avoided Poochyena's attack again.

"Poochyena, keep moving so it will be tough for Sandile to get you!" Davis ordered. Poochyena kept running and running, hoping Sandile won't be able to catch it.

"You'll have to do better than that. Sandile, Rock Tomb!" Cletus called. Sandile emerged out of the ground right in front of Poochyena. When that happened, Sandile generated rocks and threw them right at Poochyena.

"Quick, Poochyena! Dodge it!" Davis said. Poochyena got moving and tried avoiding the rocks.

"Sorry, but you can't escape. Sandile, Sand Tomb!" Cletus ordered.

"Sandile!" Sandile generated its power into the field. When that happened, the ground turned into sand and Poochyena fell inside it. Poochyena ended up stuck in a sand trap and couldn't get out now.

"Oh no! Poochyena is stuck!" Davis said as he didn't like where this going.

"That's not good. Poochyena can't move around so much." Tetsu said. Poochyena struggled to get out of the sand, but it looks like poor Poochyena is trapped and can't get out, the struggling making it worse.

"Well, I say this battle is just about over. What a shame. I was hoping for a more interesting battle." Cletus said as he was rather disappointed in the outcome.

"The battle isn't over yet!" Davis claimed.

"Sorry, Davis, but I think it is." Cletus said. While his fans were cheering, Davis could see he's in a tough situation. If he doesn't figure something out soon, Poochyena isn't going to last much longer.

It would seem that Davis' first gym battle might end in his defeat. Just how is he going to get out of this one? Is that first badge just out of reach? Stay tune to find out.
