Our heroes have arrived in Washingburg City so that Davis can have his second gym battle. Of course, they're seeing the sights.

"Look at the view!" Tetsu said as they all marveled at a view. They all went and checked out a tower in Washingburg City and could see everything.

"Do you see the gym anywhere?" Davis asked.

"Calm down. We'll get to your gym, but there's no reason we can't check around the city." Tetsu said.

"Don't worry, Davis. We'll get to your gym." Cletus said.

"I don't want to wait. I'm going for that gym and that second badge will soon be mine!" Davis declared as he was ready to go.

It's a big big world, but you know where to find me

We'll be together and we're gonna do it our way

We'll discover we believe in each other

On adventures with my friends like every day

And we're already on our way

The journey stars today

OHHHHHHH Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

OHHHHHHH Oh Oh Oh OH OH Oh

The journey starts today

OHHHHHHH Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

OHHHHHHH Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh

The journey starts today

(Davis' voice) School of Beginnings

"Come on! Let's go!" Davis said as he and Imperialdramon were marching through the tower.

"Time to get our second badge!" Imperialdramon said. Those two were ready to go, but Tetsu and Cletus weren't as excited as they were about this.

"I swear their enthusiasm is annoying." Tetsu said. As the four of them got going, Tetsu soon spotted something. It was a Vanillite hiding underneath a bench and seemed scared. When he saw that, he hurried over to it. "Hey there. Are you okay?"

"Vanillite?"

"It's okay. You don't need to be scared." Tetsu said as he was trying to show Vanillite that everything was okay. When Vanillite felt safe, it went over and Tetsu held it in his arms.

"Cool. It's a Vanillite." Davis said.

"What's it doing here?" Imperialdramon questioned.

"Vanillite! There you are!" They all were met with a man that had brown hair with him wearing glasses. He had blue sweater vest with a short dress shirt underneath with khakis. "Thank you for finding Vanillite. I was worried about it."

"No problem." Tetsu said as he handed Vanillite over.

"Teacher! You found Vanillite!" They were also met with some kids who each had their own pokemon. "That's good." One kid was dressed in all purple with him having brown hair covering his right eye. "Look at what you did, Mac!" He called to one kid that seemed rather bashful with him dressed in a yellow sweater with jean shorts and had blue hair. "You almost ruined our field trip. Vanillite was your responsibility and you just let it go. You're going to be a pathetic trainer."

"That's enough, Bobby." The teacher said as he got the kid to behave. "Mac, I'm sure you'll be a great trainer, but pokemon are your responsibility and you need to take better care of them. Vanillite was probably scared when it was alone."

"I'm sorry..." Mac said.

"Excuse me, but what is this about?" Tetsu asked.

"Oh... I'm sorry. My name is Oscar, and this is my class. I teach at the Trainer's School we have here. My class and I took a trip to this tower when Mac mistakenly lost Vanillite here."

"Hi. My name is Davis, and this is Imperialdramon."

"Hi there." Imperialdramon greeted.

"I'm Tetsu."

"And my name is Cletus."

"Is there really a school for beginning trainers here?" Tetsu asked.

"Yes. We teach young children who want to be trainers, have a career in pokemon, and we even teach people who are old enough to be trainers." Oscar said.

"Yeah, and I happen to be the best trainer." Bobby boasted.

"I'm sure you are." Cletus humored.

"It does sound rather interesting." Tetsu said. "Maybe we should check it out."

"Great idea. We might be even give these kids a great experience by sharing our knowledge and such." Cletus said.

"Hold on. Did you guys forget we're here so that I can have my gym battle? We didn't come here to hang out at a school." Davis said as he wants to get straight to the gym.

"Are you here to challenge the Washingburg Gym?" Oscar asked.

"That's right. I'm going to get my second badge." Davis said.

"Well, that works out perfectly. The truth is that the school and the gym are one in the same." Oscar said. "There's no reason you can't come see our school and get your gym battle now."

"A gym that's also a school?" Imperialdramon questioned.

"Well, now we have to check it out." Davis said as this sounded rather interesting.

...

The School

"I left my class with a special guest speaker, and the principal is keeping an eye on them." Oscar said as he showed them around. "As I told you before, we teach young children here how to be trainers. I teach them all the basics, and everything they need to know about being trainers."

"What's in this room?" Cletus asked as he saw trainers with pokemon battling and everything.

"That class is for people who are already trainers." Oscar said. "That is for the more advance courses." Oscar showed them another room. "This room is for those who are interested in a career besides being a trainer. It teaches youngsters other opportunities they can explore."

"Awesome." Tetsu said as he liked what he saw.

"It's good to show people they have more than one path to follow." Cletus said.

"This all sounds great, but I'm more interested in finding the gym leader." Davis said.

"Will you just be patient. You'll get your gym battle." Tetsu said. "Just try to enjoy what we're seeing now."

"I was never that interested in school in the first place." Davis claimed.

"And in here is my class." Oscar said as he showed his class. The principal was keeping an eye on them, but Davis was surprised to see someone else there.

"To put it simply, its important that you maintain the health and care of your pokemon so they can battle more effectively." Davis and the others were surprised to see Professor Maple on a screen and was talking to the class.

"Professor Maple!" Davis called and got her attention.

"This is a surprise! Davis and Tetsu! I'm glad to see you're all doing well." Professor Maple said. "I take it that other man must be Cletus."

"I am. It's nice to meet you." Cletus said.

"I asked Professor Maple to speak with my students, but I wasn't aware you all knew each other." Oscar said.

"Seeing that you're here, Davis, I take it you already challenged the Wasingburg Gym." Professor Maple said. "Who ended up winning? Was it you or Oscar?" When she mentioned Oscar, Davis was quite shocked.

"Actually, Professor Maple, we haven't had our gym battle yet." Oscar said.

"You mean you're the gym leader?!" Davis said.

"That he is." The Principal said as he stepped forward. "Oscar here was one of our best students when he attended here. Then, when he became a teacher, he ended up becoming our very own gym leader."

"Unfortunately, I'm quite busy and I don't have time for a gym battle today." Oscar said. "I should be free to have one tomorrow, if that's fine with you."

"Sure. As long as I get to have a gym battle, I'm all good." Davis said.

"Good. Seeing as how you three are here, why don't you let your pokemon interact with the kids." Oscar said. "Having experienced trainers in the classroom might do some good for the kids. They might learn a lot from all of you."

"Sounds great to me. I say we do it." Cletus said with the others agreeing.

"Everyone, come on out!" They all called as they released all of their pokemon. Everyone loved having the pokemon around and all of their pokemon loved the children. Davis was enjoying seeing this himself. However, he did notice that poor Mac was off to the side and was being bashful.

"Poor kid. He must be a little shy." Imperialdramon said. "You want me to talk to him?"

"No. A big pokemon might be a little much for him. Let's try something a little smaller." Davis said as he walked over to Venonat and lifted Venonat in his arms. He walked over to Mac and tried being gentle. "Hey. Don't you want to play with the other pokemon? Venonat here is really nice."

"Venonat!" Mac was a little shy, but he tried being brave enough to reach out. He petted Venonat on the head and liked it. However, Bobby didn't like what he saw.

"Oops!" Bobby acted like he tripped and got in between them with him pushing Mac. "Sorry. I tripped."

"Right..." Davis said as he saw what that really was. "Mac, are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm fine." Mac said.

"Oh boy. Here we go again." Oscar said.

"What is it?" Tetsu asked.

"Bobby always treats Mac a little rotten." Oscar said. "Bobby certainly does well in battles. We have practice battles and he does well in each of them, but I'm afraid it's made him arrogant. He thinks he's the best trainer here and can win any battle. As for Mac, he's actually brilliant for someone so young, but Bobby tends to wreck his confidence. Just the other day in a practice battle, Bobby kept trying to wreck Mac's confidence and it all worked."

"Bobby does, does he? I wonder what would happen if that kid actually lost." Tetsu said. That gave Oscar an idea and it might be the only way to change things.

"Listen up, everyone." Oscar said. "Today we'll be having another practice battle, and I think it would be a good idea for our special guests here to show you all what being a real trainer is like. Davis, would you mind doing so?"

"Me?" Davis questioned. Oscar walked over and whispered something into Davis ear. From that, Davis understood what to do. "Okay."

"Good, and Bobby is going to be your opponent." Oscar said.

"I get to battle? Awesome!" Bobby said as he was excited for this.

...

The Battlefield

"I use this outdoor field for my gym battles, but also for practice battles." Oscar said as everyone stood outside for this battle. "Now, I want you to treat this like a real battle. Bobby, I want you to use this pokemon." He said as he gave him a pokeball.

"Sweet." Bobby said as he took the pokeball and chose which pokemon it was going to be.

"Snorunt!"

"It's a Snorunt."

"Imperialdramon, let's go." Davis said.

"Right." Imperialdramon said as he walked on the field.

"Just so you know, Bobby, Imperialdramon is a dragon-type. Against an ice-type like your Snorunt, you have the advantage." Davis said.

"I do. This will be easy." Bobby said as he thinks he is already going to win.

"Go easy on him, Davis. He is just a kid." Tetsu said.

"No. I said to treat this like a real battle." Oscar said as he stood by and watched. 'I hate to do this, but it will be an important lesson for Bobby.' He thought.

"Come on, kid. I'll let you make the first move." Davis said.

"Right. Snorunt, Icy Wind!" Bobby ordered. Snorunt breathed out an icy cold wind with it blasting against Imperialdramon. "Now use Ice Beam!" Snorunt fired a cold beam with it blasting Imperialdramon. All he did was just stand there and let it happen. Davis wasn't even trying to fight back. "Time to end this. Icy Wind again!" Snorunt unleashed a blast of cold wind again. "That should do it." He thought that was it, but Imperialdramon was still standing.

"Cold, but I'm still standing." Imperialdramon claimed.

"No fair!" Bobby said as it looked like Imperialdramon wasn't even hurt. "You said ice-types are strong against dragon-types! You liar!"

"I didn't. The fact is simply this: Imperialdramon is just that much stronger." Davis said. "Now use Brick Break!" Imperialdramon charged right at Snorunt and struck down in one attack. Snorunt was taken out in just one shot from that.

"Hey! No fair!" Bobby cried.

"Sorry, kid. This is what happens in a real battle." Davis said. "You might have had the type advantage, but that alone is not enough."

"Davis is right, Bobby." Oscar said as he walked over. "You might have had the type advantage, but pokemon can use a variety of attacks, not just ones that are the same type of you. Even when it seems like you have the advantage, your opponent can pull a fast one on you. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"No." Bobby said as he was just sore about loosing.

"Bobby..." Mac said as he stepped forward. "Snorunt did have the advantage, but you didn't really attack that well."

"What are you talking about?" Bobby questioned.

"It's just... Imperialdramon seems to rely on its wings for speed. Freezing them would have helped slowed him down." Mac said. "Plus, you didn't even try to get Snorunt to dodge. You just kept attacking and didn't really think about defense. It just seemed like you got ahead of yourself"

"Mac's got a point there." Oscar said. "In fact, take what I just said and use yourself and Mac here for example. Mac is brilliant and could do great in battling, but you think he's not as good as you. Maybe if you two battled and you respected your opponent, Mac might actually beat you. Bottom line is that you might win some battles, but your opponent might have a surprise for you. It's important to keep in mind that you respect your opponent, even if you win or they loose. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?"

"I... I think so." Bobby said. "Mac, do you really think I could have done better?"

"I do if you focus on more than just attacking. You can't expect to win all the time." Mac said. "In fact, maybe we could battle again and practice with each other." Bobby liked the sound of that.

'It looks like it worked. By experiencing some defeat, Bobby is becoming more humble.' Oscar thought as this was what he wanted. Maybe those two will get along and raise each other up instead of Bobby trying to bring him down. "Thank you for this, Davis, and your reward will be our gym battle tomorrow."

"Great. I can't wait." Davis said as he was excited for this.

After a fun day at school, Davis is looking forward to finally get his second badge. What kind of battle can we expect out of this teacher turned gym leader? You don't want to miss this kind of battle.
