Davis and his friends arrived in Washingburg City. When they did, they met Oscar. Not only is he a teacher for young upcoming trainers, but he's also the gym leader of the Washingburg Gym. After having a fun little day at Oscar's school, Davis is now ready to get his second badge. What kind of battle can we expect from this? We're about to find out.
It's a big big world, but you know where to find me
We'll be together and we're gonna do it our way
We'll discover we believe in each other
On adventures with my friends like every day
And we're already on our way
The journey stars today

(Davis' voice) Basic Battling
"Oh yeah! I'm ready to go!" Davis called as he stood in front of the school since the school also acted as the gym. "I hope Oscar is ready for me."
"I'm sure he is. Let's check it out." Cletus said to humor Davis. Upon their arrival, the school's principal stepped forward to greet them.
"I'm glad to see your back. We've been expecting you." The principal said. "Davis, you'll find Oscar out on the battlefield with his class."
"Great!" Davis said as he was ready to go. He went on ahead and made his way back to the battlefield. Once he got there, Oscar and his class were there and they were expecting him.
"I'm glad you came back, Davis. I hope you don't mind that my class watches." Oscar said. "Sometimes, watching can be a great way for my students to learn."
"Not at all. I just hope your students don't mind seeing you lose." Davis said.
"Well, you're surely confident." Oscar said as he liked seeing that while the others all hung back and got ready to watch the battle. "Well, if you're all set, we can begin right now. The principal will act as the referee. I'll even let you see what pokemon I'm using...at the same time."
"Same time?" Davis questioned.
"Watchog and Raticate, let's go!" Oscar said as he chose his pokemon.
"Watchog!"
"Raticate!"
"The gym battle between Oscar the gym leader and Davis the challenger will now commence!" The principal announced. "This battle will be a double battle. The battle will be over when both pokemon on either side are unable to battle."
"A double battle?!" Davis said as he wasn't expecting that.
"I think a double battle helps my students learn the importance of teamwork." Oscar claimed. "They can also relate more to them since Watchog and Raticate are the evolve forms of common pokemon for beginners. On top of that, normal-types aren't so limited to attack types. It's a great way to show the potential pokemon have." Wanting to know more about his opponents, Davis pulled out his pokedex.
"Watchog, the Lookout Pokemon. A normal-type, and the evolve form of Patrat. Their stripes and eyes are capable of shining, causing others to be scared away by them."
"Raticate, the Mouse Pokemon. A normal-type, and the evolve form of Rattata. It's teeth are constantly growing, so it's constantly biting away to shorten them. They are capable of biting through cinderblocks."
"Those two pokemon might be suitable for beginners, but I'm sure Oscar has a few tricks up his sleeve." Cletus said.
"So, what is Davis going to try?" Tetsu questioned.
"I'm ready to go, Davis." Imperialdramon said as he was ready to jump into battle.
"Wait, Imperialdramon." Davis said as he was thinking differently. "Oscar has already seen what you can do, at least has an idea of it. I'm sure he's got something planned for you."
"So, what are you going to do?" Imperialdramon questioned.
"By doing the unexpected. Poochyena and Venonat, let's go!" Davis said as he chose his two pokemon.
"Pooch!"
"Venonat!"
"Poochyena and Venonat? Interesting pair. Alright, Davis, I'm interested to see what you can do. Bring it on." Oscar dared.
"You got it!" Davis said as he was taking the initiative. "Both of you use Tackle! Hit them both hard!" Both of his pokemon charged right at their opponents.
"A simple Tackle? You'll have to do better than that. Both of you use Iron Tail!" Oscar ordered. Both of his pokemon had their tails shine and harden. When Poochyena and Venonat were close enough, they smashed their tails against them and easily knocked them back.
"We don't give up that easily. Venonat, Psybeam!" Davis ordered. Venonat got back in the fight as it launched a beam from its eyes.
"Both of you dodge it!" Oscar said with both of his pokemon jumping out of the way. "Watchog, Flash!"
"Watchog!" Watchog unleashed a bright light that blinded Davis and his pokemon. They just had to look away from the light.
"Raticate, Double-Edge!" Oscar ordered.
"Raticate!" Raticate charged right at them with some power and smashed right into Venonat.
"I'm a little disappointed, Davis. I expected more." Oscar claimed.
"How about this?! Venonat, blast Raticate with Psybeam!" Davis said. Venonat fought through that Double-Edge and blasted Raticate with its own attack and Raticate slid against the ground.
"Taking an attack to deal one of your own? That's a risky strategy, Davis." Oscar pointed out.
"If it works, it works. Besides, I know my pokemon can handle whatever is thrown at them." Davis said. "Now it's our turn to go on the attack. Poochyena, use Bite on Raticate!" Poochyena charged right at Raticate and jumped at it. Poochyena bit down on Raticate and wasn't letting go no matter how much Raticate tried to shake it off. "That's it, Poochyena! Hold on to Raticate and don't let go! Venonat, Psybeam once more on Raticate!" Venonat unleashed the beam again with Raticate getting blasted. Some of the students thought Poochyena got hit as well, but Poochyena was completley unharmed as it let go of Raticate and landed on its feet.
"That was excellent teamwork!" Cletus said. "Since Psybeam is a psychic-type move, Poochyena was unaffected since it's a dark-type."
"Yeah. That was pretty good." Tetsu said.
"Not bad, but don't forget about Watchog." Oscar warned. "Watchog, Slam on Venonat!" Watchog moved in and went straight for Venonat. When it was close enough, Watchog slammed its tail right against Venonat and dealt some damage. "Raticate, get back in there by using Flame Wheel on Poochyena!" Raticate coated itself in fire and spun around like a wheel with it smashing against Poochyena. Both of his pokemon were pushed back hard and was taking some damage.
"That's not stopping us! Venonat, Supersonic on Watchog!" Davis ordered. Venonat unleashed its sonic wave and Watchog got caught in it with it getting confused.
"Oh no!" Oscar said as he didn't like the looks of this.
"Excellent! Watchog is confused!" Cletus said as he and Tetsu were glad to see it worked.
"That means that it might hurt itself until the confusion wears off." Tetsu said.
"Now's our chance! Poochyena, Tackle on Watchog!" Davis ordered. Poochyena charged straight at Watchog and smashed against it. Watchog was pushed to the ground and was still confused as it banged its head against the ground. "Ha. We've got this."
"It's a little early for you to be getting cocky." Oscar warned. Davis didn't like the sound of that. "I didn't want to do this, but it seems I have to. Raticate, Super Fang on Watchog!"
"Say what?!" Davis said as he didn't expect that. Raticate's bucked teeth shined and actually bit down on Watchog with Watchog screaming in pain. That surprised everyone, but the bigger shocker was that Watchog snapped out of the confusion and was back in the battle.
"He had Raticate attack Watchog to break the confusion!" Cletus said.
"Unbelievable! I didn't he would do something like that!" Tetsu said.
"Another example of one of my lessons. You never know what to expect in a battle." Oscar said. "Trying to snap your pokemon out of confusion before too much damage is dealt is a basic lesson, but sometimes a little pain is just what is needed."
"Oh man. Oscar is tougher than I thought." Davis said. Oscar is providing a great example of teammwork as well as how simple and average pokemon can be just as tough as any pokemon. "We're still not backing down! Poochyena, Bite on Watchog!" Poochyena charged right at Watchog again.
"Now, an example of type relation. Use Low Sweep!" Oscar ordered. Watchhog timed the attack perfectly as it swept the leg and hit Poochyena with it. That didn't look good as Poochyena slid against the ground and looked really hurt.
"That's not good! Low Sweep is a fighting-type move! Poochyena is weak against that!" Cletus said.
"Poochyena can't take another hit like that!" Tetsu said.
"Raticate, finish Poochyena off by using Double-Edge!" Oscar ordered. Raticate charged right at Poochyena to finish it.
"No way! Venonat!" Davis called. Venonat jumped in the way of the attack and intercepted it to protect Poochyena. "Let's see you handle this! Poison Powder!" Venonat shook off some powder and Raticate took in some of it with Raticate ending up being poisoned.
"Oh no! Raticate's loosing energy!" Oscar said as he didn't like that.
"Venonat, finish it with Psybeam!" Davis said. Venonat blasted Raticate. The damage and the poison was too much for Raticate with Raticate dropping to the ground.
"Raticate is unable to battle!" The principal called. That was a shock to his students.
"That was nicely done. I especially liked the part where Venonat stepped in to protect Poochyena like that." Oscar said as he brought Raticate back. "However, Poochyena is still done for. Watchog, Low Sweep again!" Watchhog went to finish this as it went right at Poochyena to finish the battle and Poochyena wouldn't get out of the way in time. However, Venonat surprised everyone when it stepped in the way again, without Davis saying anything. Venonat took the attack and was knocked out from it that time.
"Venonat is unable to battle!" The principal called.
"Venonat!" Davis called as he and Imperialdramon hurried over and lifted Venonat up. "You really took one for the team. Thanks for that. Now, get a good rest." He said as he brought Venonat back.
"Davis, you really do have great pokemon if they're willing to protect each other like that." Oscar complimented.
"All the more reason we can't lose." Davis said. "Poochyena, let's not let Venonat's sacrifice be for nothing." Poochyena agreed as it got back up and tried reaching for a power deep inside it.
"Lovely, but I'm afraid this battle is over. Watchog, Iron Tail!" Oscar ordered.
"Poochyena, Bite!" Davis ordered. Both pokemon tried using their attacks. Poochyena had its teeth ready with it biting against Watchog's Iron Tail. Poochyena wanted to win for Davis, for Venonat, and the others. That's why a new power was awakened inside. A small blaze ignited in Poochyena's mouth, and the flame grew stronger as a fire erupted right where Poochyena was biting. No one expected that, and Watchog paid for it as Watchog screamed in pain, it's tail burning, trying to blow on it to try and cool it down.
"What just happened?!" Tetsu said.
"I think Poochyena just used Fire Fang!" Cletus said. "It must have just learned to use it, and it looks like it burned Watchog!"
"Amazing..." Oscar said as he was astonished. "I've never seen a pokemon learn a new attack in the middle of a battle like that. Poochyena must want to fulfill the trust that Davis has in it."
"That's awesome, Poochyena! Now that you learned this new attack, we can't lose!" Davis said. "Use Howl and power yourself up!" Poochyena howled and was gaining power.
"Watchog, finish this quickly! Low Sweep!" Oscar ordered.
"Not this time! Dodge!" Davis said. Poochyena jumped straight up and avoided the Low Sweep with Watchog's burn starting to get to it. "Finish this with your new move! Fire Fang!" Poochyena dived straight down with its new attack and bit down on Watchog. Watchog took a lot of damage from it and just couldn't take it anymore as Watchog dropped to the ground.
"Watchog is unable to battle! Both of the gym leader's pokemon have been defeated, so the winner is Davis the challenger!" The principal declared.
"Yes! We did it!" Davis cheered with Poochyena jumping in his arms. "You were awesome!"
"Incredible. He truly is a splendid trainer." Oscar said.
"Davis actually pulled it off. I'm more and more impressed with him." Tetsu said.
"Indeed. Poochyena learning Fire Fang was great, and Venonat taking those attacks was astounding." Cletus said as everyone enjoyed the battle. Now that it was over, Davis and his pokemon were being rewarded the badge.
"Davis, that was an excellent battle that certainly gave me a few good surprises." Oscar said. "Your pokemon worked well together. For what you just displayed, I reward you with the Simple Badge." He said as he handed a round white badge.
"Thanks a lot, Oscar." Davis said as he took his badge. "Yeah! My second badge: the Simple Badge!"
"Yeah/Veno/Arf!"
"It was a great battle. So, do you know where your next gym battle will be?" Oscar questioned.
"Not yet." Davis said.
"In that case, the closest gym from here would have to be Nevad City. I heard the gym leader there is eccentric when it comes to battling." Oscar said.
"Sounds like it could be a blast. I'll take it." Davis said as he now has a new destination, and another gym to conquer.
Davis now has his second badge thanks to the determination and commitment his pokemon have towards him. With two badges in hand, he's now on to his third. What can we expect to see ahead? Just wait and see...as the journey continues.
