After earning his third badge, our heroes are hitting the road again. Right now, they're moving down through a town by the ocean.

"Don't you guys just love the ocean?" Tetsu said as he gazed out to it. "Who knows what is out there? There are hundreds upon thousands of miles far below the water."

"Yeah... Too bad you won't be able to see any of it without gills." Davis joked.

"Ignore him." Cletus said. "The sea can be a marvelous thing."

"Hey. Look at that." Imperialdramon said. They all looked ahead and saw a man working on a ship that had a small submarine attached to it. It looked like he was working on something as he was attaching a camera to the submarine. As for the guy himself, he wore a white shirt with jeans with him having brown hair and some facial hair.

"Hey, Jed!" A man called as he and his friends were passing by. "See any mysteries lately." He joked as they all laughed at him as they kept walking. That was rather weird, and that's why Davis and the others went and checked it out.

"Hey. Are you okay?" Davis asked.

"What was that about?" Tetsu questioned.

"I'm fine. Those guys are just cracking jokes because there's something out in the sea that I'm looking for." Jed said. "I told a couple people that there might be something out in the water they spread the rumor, and now I'm being treated as some sort of joke."

"That isn't cool." Davis said as they didn't like this.

"What do you think is out there?" Cletus questioned.

"You'll just laugh." Jed said.

"Try us. I've seen some pretty unbelievable stuff myself." Davis said.

"Well... I think there's a mermaid out there." Jed said. A mermaid?! An actual mermaid?! This sounds like it could be interesting.

It's a big big world, but you know where to find me

We'll be together and we're gonna do it our way

We'll discover we believe in each other

On adventures with my friends like every day

And we're already on our way

(Davis' voice) Mysteries of the Sea

"Well, I appreciate you guys aren't laughing and willing to listen." Jed said as they all jumped on Jed's boat. After introducing themselves, Joel invited them on and they wanted to hear more about there being a mermaid out there.

"You certainly made a great pitch for us to listen." Tetsu said.

"So, what makes you think there's a mermaid out there?" Davis said.

"Well, to be completely honest, it's only something that looks like a mermaid." Jed admitted. "I'm really sure what it was. I have a photo, but it's not very good." He took out the photo from his pocket and showed it to them. It looked like it was taken underwater. There was some sort of shadow that made it look like a mermaid, but none of them could tell what it was.

"There's certainly something there, but what is it?" Cletus questioned.

"It does look like a mermaid." Tetsu said.

"How did you come across something like this?" Imperialdramon asked.

"Well, it all started around a few months ago." Jed said as he told his story. "I was out on boating trip and was on my way home. I had to hurry because there was a storm going on, and it was bad." He remembered it all well. The waves pushing his boat around as the storm roused the sea. He could see the lighthouse with the shore up ahead. "I was close, but then I heard something. It sounded like someone singing, but it was hard to listen to it." He could hear something like singing out in the sea and had no idea what it was. However, it did distract him. "I was distracted and my boat ended up capsizing with me falling into the water." Jed couldn't hold the ship together and his ship ended up capsizing. Jed ended up falling in the water and it wasn't looking good. "I was sure I was going to drown, but before I passed out, I saw something heading my way." Just before he blacked out, something came at Jed and that was all he remembered. "Next thing I knew, I was back on shore and was saved."

"Yikes. That's some sea story." Davis said.

"I've always been curious as to what it was that saved me. When I did some research from what I could remember, I began thinking it might have been an actual mermaid." Jed claimed. "I had to find out for sure, so I've been searching for it. I've had a couple encounters, but never got a good look as to what is out there. I tried not to say anything because I knew people would think I'm crazy, but too late for that."

"But this does sound incredible!" Tetsu said as he liked how this sounded.

"Still, you don't have much proof." Cletus said as he had his doubts.

"Well, that's why I'm planning on heading out and getting some answers. I'm still searching for that thing." Jed said. "I just want to see what really saved me out there. I just want the truth."

"You've got to take us with you!" Davis said as he was excited. "This could be a once in a lifetime moment."

"Yeah! I want to see a pretty mermaid!" Imperialdramon.

"Same here. I love water-types and the ocean. I would love to see something like this." Tetsu said.

"This could be an interesting event." Cletus said as he too was interested. "Only about ten percent of the ocean has been explored. Who knows what's really out there."

"Please, Jed! You've got to take us with you!" Davis said. Jed was impressed that they all seemed interested in this.

"I suppose I could use a few extra hands in case I miss something." Jed said with all of them excited on what they might discover out there.

...

The Ocean

Jed allowed Davis and his friends to join him on his little quest to find the mysterious mermaid. All of them were rather excited and interested to see what might be out there. Jed steered the boat until they were out in the middle of the ocean.

"It's right around here. I usually found whatever is out there in this area." Jed said. "With my trusted submarine and the camera attached to it, we should be able to find it. I have a feeling today is the day."

"What can we do to help?" Davis asked.

"I'm going to need you guys to keep an eye on these instruments." Jed said as he showed them the tech that was on his boat. "I've got radar for the boat and the sub. We'll be able to tell if something is coming our way with that. I've got a communication link to the two so we can stay in touch. Finally, this computer holds a wireless link that will allow the photos I take to be uploaded and saved."

"Way cool." Tetsu said as they were all impressed.

"What are we waiting for? Let's go find a mermaid!" Imperialdramon said.

"You said it!" Davis said as they were ready to go.

"Hold it. There's a bit of a problem." Jed warned. "My submarine can only carry two people. If you guys want to see what's down there, I'm afraid only one of you can go."

"Only one of us can go?" Davis said. "Sorry, Imperialdramon. You don't like being in a pokeball, and you might be too big for the sub."

"What?! No fair!" Imperialdramon complained.

"Well, I think I be best on this ship." Cletus offered. "I can make sure the photos come in and make sure we get a good one." That just left Tetsu and Davis. Both of them wanted to go as they stared down at each other.

"Rock, Paper, Scissors?" Davis offered.

"On three." Tetsu agreed as they were about to use the little game to decide who goes. When they had that settled, Jed climbed into the sub with Davis following. "Stupid paper..."

"Don't worry. I'll enjoy it enough for the both of us." Davis said.

"Well, at least let Crconaw and Tentacool go as well." Tetsu said as he took out his pokeballs. "They can help you down there and search around." He released both of his pokemon with both of them diving into the water.

"Croconaw!"

"Tentacool!"

"Great. Let's go find ourselves a mermaid! Batten down the hatches! Dive, dive!" Davis joked. Once both of them were inside, the sub detached from the ship and dived down into the water.

"Everything is a go." Jed said as the sub dived deeper in the water and Jed took control of it with Tentacool and Croconaw following.

...

Jed and Davis

Jed and Davis kept their eyes open for anything in the ocean that might bring them to this mermaid. Croconaw and Tentacool helped out as they stayed close to the sub and tried looking themselves. Being underwater was amazing as Davis saw things that were incredible with many pokemon around.

"This is amazing. You probably saw a lot of cool things down here." Davis said.

"Yeah. Much of the ocean hasn't been explored yet. It's hard to say what's really down here." Jed said. "Luckily, we don't have to go very deep. The deeper we go, the less sunlight there is. Luckily, whatever it is we're looking for is in the brighter zone of the ocean."

"This is so cool!" Davis said as he was getting excited.

"By the way... Thanks." Jed said. "Most people gave me a bit of a hard time over this, but you guys actually want to help me."

"It's nothing." Davis said. "This sort of thing is what being a trainer is all about. I saw a lot of incredible things during my travels, things many wouldn't believe. So, I guess I'm not really in any position to judge someone with something like this."

"Thanks. I don't even know if it's a real mermaid we're looking for." Jed said. "Hopefully, I'll get the truth today." Jed is hoping to see what it was that saved him. That was when Croconaw spotted something moving through the water. Tentacool spotted it and tried using sonic waves to get a good reading on it. Croconaw alerted Davis and Jed as it tapped against the sub and pointed the way.

"They found something!" Davis said. They all took a look and could see the shadow of something swimming through the water. "Is that it?"

"Maybe..." Jed said.

"Guys? How's it going?" Cletus asked as he was using the radio to speak with to them.

"Did you find anything?" Tetsu asked. Davis pulled out the photo and tried to compare the two. Whatever that shadow is looks similar to what was in the photo.

"I think we found it!" Davis said. "Take the photo!"

"I can't! It's only a shadow! I can't even tell what it is!" Jed said.

"Hurry after it before we lose it! Croconaw and Tentacool, make sure we don't lose it!" Davis said. All of them chased after the shadow, but the shadow was going deeper and deeper into the ocean. "Where's it going?"

"I'm not sure. Do you guys see anything on the radar?" Jed asked.

"Negative." Tetsu said.

"Wait. What's that up ahead?" Davis questioned. They all looked ahead and saw some sort of light. "How can there be light shining at the bottom of the ocean?"

"Let's go see what it is." Jed said as they wanted to take a closer look. They all moved closer to the light and followed the "mermaid" into it. When they got close enough, they could see something...beautiful. They found themselves in a coral reef that was shining with lights, colors, pokemon, and all of it was so beautiful. "It's some sort of reef."

"Whatever it is, it looks incredible." Davis said.

"This would still make a great photo, mermaid or no mermaid." Jed said as he used the camera and was still taking photos. "Cletus? Tetsu? Are you guys getting them up there?"

...

The Boat

"Yeah. They're all coming in." Tetsu said as he looked over the computer and saw all the photos. "I wish I could see it with my own eyes, but this is incredible. It's like a work of art."

"Yeah. Jed really knows how to work a camera." Imperialdramon said.

"But what about this mysterious mermaid? It has to be somewhere in there. Where'd it go?" Cletus questioned.

...

The Ocean

"Where is it?" Davis said. "We followed the mermaid here?"

"It's got to be here somewhere." Jed said as they continued searching for that mermaid. They looked around until they saw the shadow of something moving along the reef. "There! We've got it this time!" They all took a look with Jed shining some lights on it. They could finally see what it was, but it wasn't what they expected.

"Primarina!"

"That's not a mermaid! That's a Primarina!" Jed said.

"Did you say Primarina?!" Cletus questioned.

"Is that a pokemon?" Davis said as he took out his pokedex.

"Primarina, the Soloist Pokemon. A water and fairy type, and the evolve form of Brionne. Primarina make a beautiful sound when they sing, using the waves to control water balloons for a mesmerizing performance."

"Was it a Primarina that saved you?" Davis questioned, but Jed wasn't sure. They all kept their eyes on Primarina as it swam into the center of the reef and started singing. It was singing like it was a stage giving a grand performance. Jed was sure of it now.

"That's the sound! That's the sound that I heard that day!" Jed confirmed. "It was really just a Primarina that saved me that day. At least now I can put a face to it." Even though it wasn't a mermaid, they still loved it. The sight and sounds were all captivating.

"Hey. It might not be a mermaid, but I'm glad we got to see this." Davis said.

"Yeah. It's beautiful." Jed said as he never took his eyes off Primarina. "Thank you, Primarina." Jed feels more at peace knowing the truth now and it turned out he saw something worth wild after all.

...

The Town

After seeing what they did, Jed took everyone back to the shore. Once there, he got his photos developed and were displaying them to everyone. Even though it wasn't at all what he said, everyone was loving the photos. They were like a work of art. The whole thing was like a museum display and no one really had anything bad to say.

"I don't think anyone will be making fun of you now." Tetsu said.

"You should be proud that you got to see that." Cletus said.

"I sure am." Jed said as everyone loved it. "I don't know if mermaids are really out there, but I am grateful to Primarina and what it did. That encounter had me believe there was something grand out there, and I was right."

"Sure was. I surely wouldn't want to have missed this." Davis said as they all stared at the best photo. The one that looked like Primarina looked like a graceful singer. They all took a chance into an adventure and it paid off.

There is much of the world that has yet to be discovered. Who knows what is really out there. The only way to see is to take the steps into adventure. You can bet that our heroes' adventures haven't ended yet, and they'll see a lot more on their journey.

What none of them did see was that in the background, hidden in the coral, was the fin of something that didn't look like a pokemon, but a part of it did look like a girl.
