Davis was excited to battle for his fourth badge. When he got to the gym, he met the gym leader Cliff. They couldn't battle at the moment, but Davis did see a sample of Cliff's strength. Cliff is a master of all different fighting styles, but it could be different in a pokemon battle. Davis is even more pumped to battle against Cliff. What kind of battle can we expect out of this? We're about to find out.

(Davis' voice) Are You Ready to Battle?!

"Well, Davis... I welcome you and your friends to my gym." Cliff said as they all gathered in the gym's battlefield that looked like a dojo. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting, but my pokemon and I are ready for any challenger. Are you ready for me?"

"You bet I am." Davis said as he was set to battle.

"The gym battle between Davis, the challenger, and Cliff, the gym leader, will now begin!" Duce said as he acted as the ref with Tetsu and Cletus sitting back to watch. "The battle will be three-on-three! The battle will be over when all three of one side's pokemon is unable to battle! During the battle, only the challenger will be allowed to substitute pokemon!"

"I might be an ultimate fighter, Davis, but I know a pokemon battle is different from what you saw." Cliff said. "Either way, I'm ready for both!" He claimed as he held his first pokeball. "Mienfoo, time to battle!"

"Mienfoo!" When Davis saw that pokemon, he took out his pokedex to learn more about it.

"Mienfoo: The Martial Arts Pokemon. A fighting-type. Though small, Mienfoo is fierce. Any opponent that approaches it will be faced with a series of graceful attacks."

"Mienfoo... I'm guessing to fit him personally, each of his pokemon know a different martial arts style." Cletus theorized.

"So, this battle will be like a mixed martial arts competition, something like the other day." Tetsu said.

"Venonat, you're up first!" Davis called as he made his first choice.

"Venonat!"

"I see... Coming at me with a bug-type since fighting-type attacks won't do that much damage." Cliff said. "Sorry, but that won't be enough for you to win this battle. Now, let's begin, shall we!"

"Right! Venonat, Psybeam!" Davis ordered. Venonat didn't wait around as it launched the attack, but Cliff didn't flinch of anything.

"Mienfoo, Quick Guard!" Cliff ordered. Mienfoo quickly moved its hands and formed a shield that blocked Venonat's attack. "I see your Venonat knows Psybeam, but you're going to need more than just that. Force Palm!" Mienfoo moved fast so it could press its paw against Venonat and blasted with a blast of energy and pushed Venonat back.

"Hang in there, Venonat. Let's try to mess them up with Supersonic!" Davis ordered.

"Dodge it!" Cliff said. Venonat unleashed a sonic wave, but Mienfoo did some flips and was able to avoid the attack. "Now use Mega Kick!" Mienfoo jumped right at Venonat and landed a powerful kick against it. Davis could see that Mienfoo's speed and agility is going to be a problem in this battle.

"That Mienfoo is so fast. What's Davis going to do?" Tetsu said.

"I'm not sure, but he better do something fast." Cletus said.

'If I can get a good shot with Psybeam, I know Venonat can win.' Davis thought. 'I need a way to slow it down and... Wait! That's it!'

"Not going to attack? We will! Force Palm!" Cliff said. Mienfoo charged right at Venonat with the attack ready.

"Venonat!" Davis called just as Mienfoo blasted Venonat with the attack. It looked like Venonat took some damage, but there was problem with Mienfoo as it dropped to one knee. It looked like Mienfoo was poisoned.

"Poisoned?! When did that happened?!" Cliff said.

"Venonat's Poison Powder." Davis said. "I knew if Mienfoo got close enough, Poison Powder can do it's thing." Turns out, Davis had Venonat use Poison Powder just as Mienfoo closed the distance and attacked. "I knew with Venonat's eyes, it could work." Cliff was impressed Davis used Venonat's characteristics to poison Mienfoo. "See just how sharp Venonat's eyes are! Psybeam!" Venonat blasted Mienfoo with Psybeam and it did massive amounts of damage with Mienfoo knocked out.

"Mienfoo is unable to battle! Venonat is the winner!" Duce said.

"Awesome! That's one down!" Tetsu said.

"And he did an excellent job of it." Cletus said.

"Mienfoo, return. You did good." Cliff said.

"You were great, Venonat. Take some rest for now." Davis said as he was switching his pokemon.

"Not bad, Davis. Let's see how you do against this next pokemon. Sawk, time to battle!" Cliff said.

"Sawk!"

"Cool! He's got a Sawk just like me!" Davis said.

"But it's probably different from our old friend. Let me take this one." Imperialdramon offered.

"Sure." Davis said as Imperialdramon stepped forward into the battle. "Let's win this right here! Focus Punch!" Imperialdramon gathered power in his fist and went straight for the attack.

"Use Bulk Up!" Cliff said. Sawk's muscles expanded. When that happened, he held out his hand and was able to stop Imperialdramon's attack with just that hand. The guys couldn't believe that actually happened. "Now use repeated Low Kick!" Sawk swung its leg up and smashed it right in Imperialdramon's gut. That kick had some power behind it. Sawk didn't stop there as he unleashed a series of kicks against Imperialdramon at incredible speed.

"No way! Look at that Sawk go!" Tetsu said as none of them have seen something like that before.

"Mienfoo represents kung fu while Sawk represents karate." Cliff claimed. "My pokemon use different fighting styles like I do. Kung fu is when you throw your weight around with reacting to your opponent. Karate is a little more straight forward. If you're having trouble with the different styles already, you've lost."

"So he shifted his stiles around." Davis said as he could see this was going to be a problem.

"Now use Poison Jab!" Cliff said. Sawk kicked Imperialdramon back. Once that happened, Sawk gathered poison power into his hands and jabbed them against Imperialdramon's gut with repeated and swift movements. Imperialdramon was completely at Sawk's mercy and it wasn't looking good down there.

"Blast Sawk with Dragon Pulse! Put some distance between you!" Davis called. Imperialdramon tried his best to fight through and was able to blast Dragon Pulse against Sawk and pushed Sawk back. Cliff was a little impressed Imperialdramon was capable of that. "Are you okay?!"

"I feel like a sack of beef." Imperialdramon said as he held his gut. "I think I'll be okay."

"Not bad, but let's see how you do against this. Throat Chop!" Cliff said. Sawk gathered dark power into its hands this time. Sawk tried striking Imperialdramon in the throat, but he kept avoiding Sawk's attacks.

"Don't let Sawk close the distance. Fight back with Focus Punch!" Davis said.

"Catch it!" Cliff called. Imperialdramon tried attacking, but Sawk was able to catch both of Imperialdramon's fists and the two tried to hold them down.

"Sawk's stuck! Blast it with Dragon Pulse!" Davis said as he didn't miss the chance. Imperialdramon was able to bring his hands together and blasted Sawk with it. "Let's finish this while we can! Dragon Rush!" Imperialdramon gathered power around himself and flew right at Sawk with Sawk being smashed into the ground. When the dust cleared away, Sawk was knocked out of the battle.

"Sawk is unable to battle! Imperialdramon is the winner!" Duce declared.

"Very impressive, Davis." Cliff said as he brought Sawk back to its pokeball. "So, it would seem that you're a fighter too. I'm quite impressed with your fighting spirit."

"Really? Thanks, Cliff." Davis said.

"However, my last pokemon is no pushover. Machamp, let's go!" Cliff said as he chose his last pokemon.

"Machamp!"

"There it is... Let's do it, Imperialdramon!" Davis called as he was excited for this last battle. "Let's start things off with Brick Break!"

"Right! Here I come!" Imperialdramon said as he went straight at Machamp, but neither of them were worried.

"Use a double-sided Karate Chop!" Cliff ordered. Machamp used its first pair of arms and blocked Imperialdramon's attack. Once that happened, Machamp used its arms and chopped them right into Imperialdramon's sides. An attack like that did some real damage to Imperialdramon.

"Oh man. That probably felt like getting hit by two metal bats on both sides!" Tetsu said as that looked hard to watch.

"Now use Close Combat!" Cliff said. Machamp launched a series of punches. Imperialdramon got hit by each one. It became too much for him as Machamp landed the last one right in his gut again.

"Why the gut...?" Imperialdramon complained as he held it and dropped down. "I'm sorry... My precious stomach just can't take anymore." Imperialdramon collapsed and it looked like he was done.

"Imperialdramon is unable to battle! Machamp is the winner!" Duce called.

"Are you okay?!" Davis called with Imperialdramon just waving him off. "Just go and sit with the others!"

"Good idea." Imperialdramon said as he tried to move off the battlefield.

"Venonat, you're back in!" Davis called as he brought Venonat back.

"Venonat!"

"Let's see how tough Machamp is after this! Psybeam!" Davis said. Venonat used the attack and tried blasting Machamp with it, but Machamp crossed its arms and was able to block the attack. Davis and the others were shocked that Machamp just took the attack.

"No way! That should have been super effective, but Machamp was able to push it off!" Tetsu said.

"Just how strong is Machamp?!" Cletus questioned.

"You're going to need more power than that! Go, Machamp!" Cliff said. Machamp moved fast and was coming at Venonat.

"Get away, Venonat!" Davis called, but it was too late. Just as Venonat tried jumping away, Machamp grabbed it with both hands. "Psybeam! Get out of there!" Venonat tried blasting Machamp again, but Machamp endured the attack.

"Karate Chop!" Cliff ordered. Machamp brought its spare arms down and smashed them right on Venonat's head. "Now Cross Chop!" Machamp crossed its arms and smashed them right against Venonat with Venonat being knocked out of Machamp's hands and the battle.

"Venonat is unable to battle! Machamp is the winner!" Duce declared.

"Unbelievable! Cliff is having Machamp make full use of its arms!" Tetsu said.

"It prevented Venonat from escaping while using its spare arms to attack. Very effective." Cletus said. Bringing Machamp down won't be as easy as the others.

"Galvantula, I choose you!" Davis called as he chose his last pokemon.

"Galvantula!"

"Galvantula, it's all up to you!" Davis called.

"You've done well to make it this far, but I'm afraid this battle must come to an end." Cliff said. "Machamp! Show them your raw power with Cross Chop!" Machamp crossed its arms and tried attacking with it.

"Poison Fang!" Davis ordered. The two of went on the attack and ended up clashing against each other, but Machamp used the chance to grab a hold of Galvantual and try to hold it down.

"Karate Chop, nonstop!" Cliff called. That was when Machamp unleashed a series of chops right on Galvantua's head and all Galvantula can do is try to endure the attack.

"Fight back, Galvantula! Give it a good shock!" Davis said. Galvantula found the power to do so as it unleashed a small discharge that shocked Machamp and got it to let go. "Now use Electro Ball!" Galvantula tried blasting Machamp, but Machamp resisted the attack.

"You'll have to do better than that. Now use Cross Chop!" Cliff said. Machamp crossed its arms and smashed them against Galvantula with Galvantula being pushed back.

"Try and hang in there!" Davis encouraged. 'Machamp is incredibly strong. Attacking with normal methods isn't going to work. I've got to try and find a way to slow it down.' "Let's wrap it up with Spiderweb!" Galvantula shot out a net and got it around Machamp with Machamp getting tangled in it.

"Get yourself out of that!" Cliff called.

"Now use Poison Fang!" Davis said. Galvantula charged and tried to take a bite out of Machamp as it struggled to get out of the web. It looked like the attack was going to hit, but Machamp broke free from the web.

"Now to really show them your raw power! Use Submission!" Cliff ordered. Machamp grabbed a hold of Galvantula and stopped the attack. Once that happened, Machoke started to roll around with Galvantula, gathering power around them, with the two of them crashing into the wall.

"Galvantula!" Davis called as he was worried about the damage that was done. Machamp jumped away, but Galvantula took some damage. Even so, Galvantula was still able to battle. The problem was that Machamp was so strong.

"What is Davis going to do? That Machamp is so strong." Tetsu questioned.

"Davis, you still have a chance. Submission causes recoil damage!" Cletus called. When he said that, Davis took a look and saw Machamp has burned through a lot of power.

'There's a chance, but how do I counter? I've got to do something about those arms.' Davis thought. He tried to think about it until it came to him. There was one attack that could create an opening. "Multiple Spiderwebs!" Galvantula launched a series of webs and got them all around Machamp.

"Davis, you can't stop Machamp with..." Cliff thought Machamp would handle it, but Machamp was having a hard time getting out now.

"Look at that! Machamp can't get out!" Tetsu called.

"It's like quicksand! The more Machamp struggles, the worst it gets!" Cletus said.

"Now use Electro Web!" Davis called. Galvantula unleashed an electrical web with Machamp getting electrocuted this time. "Wrap it up with Electro Ball!" Galvantula fired the electric ball and blasted Machamp with it and Machamp got zapped big time. Once that happened, Machamp collapsed and was knocked out of the battle.

"Machamp is unable to battle! Galvantula is the winner! Victory goes to the challenger!" Duce declared.

"Yes! You did it, Galvantula!" Davis cheered as he rushed over and hugged Galvantula for an excellent battle with all of his friends cheering on his win. Now that the battle was over, Davis shook hands with Cliff with all his pokemon standing in their win.

"That was an excellent battle, Davis. You're one tough trainer." Cliff said. "Here is proof that you won here. This is the Martial Badge." He said as he handed him a badge that looked like a tiny gong.

"Thanks a lot, Cliff." Davis said as he took it. "Yeah! I got the Martial Badge!"

"Yea/Veno/Gal!"

...

The Pokemon Center

"That makes number four." Davis said as he admired his badges. Now that it was all over, they went to the pokemon center for some rest and Davis' pokemon to get treated.

"You're halfway there now." Tetsu said. "So, where are we heading next? Where's the next gym?"

"Let's see..." Tetsu said as he had a look at his map. "I don't really see one close by. It looks like we might have to go through Floriba City and go from there."

"Wait. Floriba City?" Tetsu said as that sparked something between Tetsu and Davis. It's a moment they knew they were coming.

"Looks like it's finally time, Tetsu." Davis said.

"I guess it is. Looks like the time for our gym battle has come." Tetsu said. Both of them knew this time would come. They promised each other they would have a real gym battle. Since they have to pass through Floriba City, it's time.

Davis has successfully won his fourth badge and now the time has come for one he's been waiting for. The awaited gym battle between Tetsu and Davis will soon be at hand. What kind of exciting battle can we expect out of this? We'll see... So don't miss it.
