Tetsu has gone on ahead to Floriba City to prepare for his upcoming gym battle with Davis. That means that Davis, Cletus, and Imperialdramon are now traveling without Tetsu, but that doesn't seem to bother them.

"Watch out, Tetsu! I'm going to be ready for our gym battle." Davis said as he was getting excited. "If Tetsu went on ahead, I can only guess that he's going to have something big planned for me."

"Feraligatr did just recently evolve. Tetsu must be getting used to Feraligatr's new power, not to mention improving the others." Cletus said.

"Hey! What if we caught ourselves a new pokemon?" Imperialdramon suggested. "Tetsu certainly won't expect a new pokemon in our gym battle."

"Not a bad idea, but I would just like to catch a new pokemon." Davis said as he looked around for a new pokemon, and soon one came floating right in front of them.

"Lampent..."

"Well, there's a new pokemon. That's a Lampent." Cletus said.

"Lampent?" Davis said as he pulled out his pokedex.

"Lampent, the Lamp Pokemon. A ghost and fire type, and the evolve form of Litwik. Lampent are capable of absorbing souls and uses those souls to fuel it's fire."

"It looks so cool! I'm going for it." Davis said. "Imperialdramon, blast it with Dragon Pulse! Let's catch us a new pokemon!" Imperialdramon went through with it as he attacked Lampent and blasted it so hard with it hitting a tree. "Go, pokeball!" He threw a pokeball aiming to catch a new pokemon, but the ball just bounced off it. "Hey. What gives?"

"If it didn't work, Lampent must already belong to someone." Cletus claimed.

"Lampent!" That was when the trainer came out and hurried over to it, and it was someone they know. "Hey! What's the big idea attacking my Lampent?!"

"Flint?!" Davis said.

"Davis!" Flint said once he realized who it was. A friend and rival has made a comeback.

(Davis' voice) Fire With Fire

"It's great to see you again, Flint." Davis said. "Sorry about this. I thought Lampent was a wild pokemon and I was trying to catch it. Is it okay?"

"Lampent?" Flint asked. Lampent was able to pull itself together and float back into the air. "There we go. It looks like Lampent is going to be okay. It's great to see you guys again."

"It's great to see you, too." Cletus said. "It's been a while since the last time we saw you. You seem to be doing rather well."

"You bet I am." Flint said proudly, but that was when he realized someone was missing. "Hold on. Where's Tetsu? I thought you guys were all travelling together." That was when they took the moment to explain the situation to them. "I see... So Tetsu went on ahead to get ready for your planned gym battle."

"Yeah. We're both excited about it." Davis said.

"Nice to see your gym battle is going good, but I bet not as good as me." Flint teased as he took out his badges and showed that he had a total of three badges. "Three badges... What do you think of that?"

"Ha. Read'em and weep, Flint." Davis said as he took out his badges and showed he had more than Flint. "I've got four badges. The one I get from Tetsu will be my fifth." He mocked with Flint getting a little annoyed.

"So what? It's just one badge more than me. It doesn't mean you're stronger than I am." Flint said.

"Okay, calm down." Cletus said to try and get them all to settle down. "Flint, what brings you out here in the first place?"

"That's simple. It's because I'm out here trying to catch a Magmar." Flint admitted.

"Magmar?" Davis questioned. He reached for his pokedex and tried to learn more about it.

"Magmar, the Spitfire Pokemon. A fire-type, and the evolve form of Magby. It is said that when Magmar get injured, they can rejuvenate and heal themselves in volcanic magma like they were hot springs."

"You're out here trying to catch one?" Davis said.

"That's right, and I'm sure going to get one." Flint declared as he tried to look tough, but it didn't help his image when he heard his stomach growl. "Of course my stomach would growl when I'm trying to sound cool."

"It is around lunch. Let's eat. I could even give something to Lampent to help it out." Cletus said as they all thought that was a great idea. With Flint joining in, all of them had lunch together. Thanks to Cletus cooking, Flint had a nice meal that he rather enjoyed.

"Wow, Cletus. You're quite the cook." Flint claimed.

"Thank you. It's easy since my family does own a restaurant." Cletus said.

"Even Lampent seems to be enjoying the food." Flint said as he watched Lampent eating and enjoying the food it has.

"If you think his cooking is good, you should try my noodles." Davis said as he was quite proud of his cooking abilities.

"You boil them in water. How hard or great can that really be?" Flint questioned with that bruising Davis' ego.

"Anyway, back to why you're out here. You're trying to catch a Magmar. Are you sure there's one around in this area?" Davis said.

"Yeah. I'm sure there is." Flint claimed. "You know how I'm passionate about fire-types, remember? Having a Magmar on my team would be awesome. Magmar really know how to turn up the heat since they can withstand lava, not to mention that their evolve forms, Magmortar, can be one powerful pokemon. I just got to have a pokemon as awesome as that!" He claimed as he was getting red hot.

"Well, we certainly do remember how passionate you are about fire-types." Cletus said as they thought he was getting too fired up over nothing.

"Still, all you have are fire-type pokemon. From what I'm hearing, fire isn't going to do much against a pokemon like a Magmar." Davis said. "How do you plan to get one with another fire-type?"

"I'm glad you asked. That's actually where Lampent here is going to come in." Flint said as he got something up his sleeve with them all wondering what he could mean. "You want to see what I'm talking about? Maybe you guys could help me find one?"

"We might as well. I want to see what Flint is talking about." Imperialdramon claimed.

"Sounds like it could be fun." Davis said.

"Sure, Flint. This does sound rather interesting." Cletus said with Flint glad they're going to help him out. Once they got the fill of their lunch, they all got to looking for a Magmar for Flint and tried to find it.

"Anyone see anything?!" Davis called.

"Not yet. Flint, are you sure there's really a Magmar somewhere around here?" Imperialdramon questioned. "I'm not finding anything."

"Trust me. I've done my research." Flint said. "There's a Magmar somewhere around here and I'm not leaving here without one." Flint seemed really passionate about finding this Magmar and isn't going to stop until he finds one.

"Cletus, any ideas on how we can find one?" Davis questioned.

"I'm not sure. Even if there is one, it could be rare around these parts." Cletus said as he wasn't quite sure what they can do to find one.

"I'm telling you that there is one here and I'll search all day if I have to!" Flint shouted. In frustration, he gave a good kick to a stick and sent it flying. As that stick flew around the area, it ended up hitting against something that was hiding behind those bushes. They all could hear something was coming out and by some dumb luck, it ended up being the Magmar that Flint was looking for.

"Magmar!"

"Aha! I told you!" Flint claimed as he was excited that they found one.

"Uh... Flint... It doesn't look all that happy." Davis pointed out.

"Yeah, because it just got hit by a stick that you kicked at it!" Imperialdramon claimed. That's when Flint got a good look and saw that Magmar did look rather mad.

"Magmar!" It proved it was rather mad as it used Flamethrower right at them. All of them were able to avoid it, but there was no way that Flint was leaving without that Magmar.

"Just what I want. I love a pokemon that's ready for a battle." Flint said.

"So, are you going to use Lampent like you said?" Davis questioned.

"Not just yet. I want to test Magmar first. I want to see what this Magmar is really capable of." Flint said as he reached for a different pokemon. "Cyndaquil, let's go!"

"Cyndaquil!"

"Time to catch us a new pokemon. Cyndaquil, Flame Wheel!" Flint ordered. Cyndaquil charged right at Magmar as it turned itself into a fiery wheel and went straight at Magmar. It smashed right against Magmar, but Magmar was able to endure the attack. Once it stopped Cyndaquil in it's tracks, it formed fire around its fist and smashed it against Cyndaquil and knocked Cyndaquil back. "Are you okay?"

"Cyndaquil!" Cyndaquil still seemed able to battle.

"In that case, let's use Swift!" Flint ordered. Cyndaquil jumped in the air and fired a barrage of stars right at Magmar, but Magmar countered as it used Flamethrower again and was able to burn through those stars. Luckily, Cyndiquil was able to move out of the way in time.

"That Magmar sure is tough." Davis said.

"Their fellow fire-type attacks won't do all that much damage. What's Flint up to?" Cletus questioned. Flint got a good read on what Magmar's strength and he liked what he saw.

"Okay, Cyndaquil. That's enough." Flint said as he had Cyndaquil return to it's pokeball and pulled out a different one. "Lampent, it's your turn!"

"Lampent!"

"Okay, Magmar. Come on. Come and get Lampent." Flint dared. Magmar took that dare as Magmar unleashed a blazing flame right at Lampent. Lampent didn't even try to dodge it. The attack just came, but it wasn't hurting Lampent. Rather, Lampent's body absorbed the flames.

"Whoa! What just happened?!" Davis said as he and the others were shocked.

"That there is why Lampent's great for catching fellow fire-types." Flint said.

"I see! It must be Flash Fire!" Cletus figured.

"Flash Fire?" Davis questioned.

"It's an ability that prevents fire-type attacks from dealing any damage and increases Lampent's power!" Cletus said. "In other words, all those flames will do is make Lampent stronger and not cause any damage!"

"That's right!" Flint said. "Now to catch that Magmar! Lampent, Psychic!" Flint ordered.

"Lampent!" Lampent used the power of it's mind to lift Magmar off the ground and then smashed it back to the ground.

"That had some power to it." Imperialdramon said.

"That's the power of Flash Fire for you." Cletus said.

"Let's not damage the goods too badly. Confuse Ray!" Flint said. Lampent formed some golden orbs and unleashed them around Magmar. Once there, they shined a bright light that caused Magmar to act confuse. That was an ideal state to catch it. "I've got you now!" Flint threw a pokeball and it hit against Magmar. Once that happened, it went inside and they all waited to see if it would actually work. It moved around a little until it dinged and it meant that Flint did it. "Yeah!" Flint ran over and grabbed his new pokemon.

"You really got it!" Davis said.

"Another fire-type to add to your collection." Cletus said.

"That's right." Flint said. "We're red hot now!" He shouted as he blazed with enthusiasm.

"Yeah, Flint! That's when you turn it up!" Davis said.

"Hold on a second. Aren't you just as passionate like that, Davis?" Cletus said.

"Yeah, but I do it in a cool way. Not to mention I know how to turn it down." Davis said. "I admire Flint and his passion, but there's a time and place to get that hot. While we were eating, no. After he catches a pokemon, yes. Trust me, I know." Cletus and Imperialdramon looked at each other as they both agreed that they beg to differ on that.

Later

"Well, I'm heading this way." Flint said. Now that he's got his new Magmar, they were now parting ways. "Say hi to Tetsu for me when you get to Floriba City."

"We will." Cletus said.

"Flint, keep that passionate fire of yours burning and catch all the red hot pokemon you can." Davis encouraged.

"I will, and just wait. You might have more badges, but I'll burn you and your pokemon hotter and brighter than yours." Flint said with the two of them bumping fists before they parted ways.

After meeting up with his friend, Davis is getting a little more fired up himself. He certainly can't wait for his next battle or when he catches his own pokemon. Both Flint and Davis are surely get fired up when it comes to pokemon. Let's just see how far it can take them...as the journey continues.
