Davis and Cletus continue to head for Floriba City for the upcoming gym battle with Tetsu. At the moment, they stopped at a local pokemon center to ensure all of their pokemon are in great shape.

"Excuse me, Davis." Nurse Joy said as she came out while the two of them were waiting. "All of your pokemon are in great shape."

"That's great." Davis said as he walked up to all his pokemon. "Are you guys getting pumped? Our gym battle against Tetsu will be coming up." All his pokemon cheered as they were ready for it. "Great. Galvantula and Shellder, I'll be counting on the two of you. I need to make sure the two of you are at your best for that battle."

"Galvantula!"

"Shellder!"

"Looks like you already decided on what pokemon to use." Cletus said.

"You're Shellder does appear to be in good form. Are you planning to take it to Stone Falls?" Nurse Joy said.

"Stone Falls? What is that?" Davis asked.

"You don't know." Nurse Joy said. "If you take your Shellder there, it can evolve." A chance for his pokemon to evolve? Sounds like an opportunity that Davis can't simply pass.

(Davis voice) Stone Above the Rest

"Shellder could evolve?" Davis said as he lifted Shellder into his arms and really thought about it. "How could that be?"

"There's a waterfall not far from here." Nurse Joy explained. "At the top of the waterfall is a rock that just sits right on there. However, embedded in that rocks is a actually a water stone."

"You mean one of those evolution stones?" Davis questioned.

"That's right." Cletus said. "The water stone could allow some pokemon to evolve like an Eevee into Vaporeon, Panpour into Simipour. In this case, it could help Shellder become a Cloyster."

"Really?" Davis said as he sounds like this could be a great thing. If he could get Shellder to evolve, Tetsu surely wouldn't expect it. "What do you say, Shellder? Do you want to give it a try?"

"Shellder!"

"Sounded like a yes." Imperialdramon translated as it seemed like Shellder is excited about the idea.

"There's just one thing." Nurse Joy warned. "It's not exactly easy to get there. That rock is right in the middle, hanging over the edge. In fact, some pokemon tried swimming all the way up the waterfall to get up to that stone."

"A chance to evolve with some training? Sounds like a great chance to me." Davis said. "Come on, Shellder. We're going to Stone Falls!"

"Shellder!"

...

The Forest

Hearing about Stone Falls, they all went straight to check it out and have Shellder evolve. Carrying Shellder in his arms, Davis and the others couldn't wait to see how this is all going to work out.

"According to the map, this waterfall shouldn't me much further." Cletus said.

"It won't be long, Shellder. You'll be a Cloyster soon." Davis said as Shellder liked the sound of that.

"You do know that once Shellder evolve, it's going to be difficult for you to carry Shellder around like that." Cletus teased.

"No worries. That's what Imperialdramon is for." Davis joked.

"Wait. What?" Imperialdramon complained. The three of them kept walking until they soon found it. Just ahead of them was a waterfall and there was a large rock sitting at the top of it. "That must be it!"

"Yeah it is!" Davis said as he hurried on ahead and could see it himself. He looked straight at the rock and saw what Nurse Joy was talking about. There was a water stone right in the rock. "There it is. All we have to do is get Shellder up there and it will become a Cloyster."

"I don't see a way to climb up there." Cletus said as he looked around. There's not enough space on the cliff for them to climb and there doesn't appear to be a way up there.

"I could just carry Shellder right up there and it's all done." Imperialdramon offered.

"No way." Davis refused. "Nurse Joy said many pokemon swim up that waterfall. Shellder is going to do the same. It's a good way for Shellder to build some strength."

"But can Shellder really climb up a waterfall?" Imperialdramon questioned.

"Maybe, but it's going to take a lot of strength." Cletus said.

"Shellder will get up there." Davis said as he placed Shellder in the water. "Okay, Shellder. Get to swimming and get that water stone."

"Shellder!" Shellder was excited about this and got to swimming. Shellder swam to the waterfall and jumped straight up, but just ended up falling straight back down to the water. Obviously, this isn't going to be as easy as Shellder thought.

"That's okay, Shellder. Just keep trying and you'll get up there." Davis said. Shellder tried again, but only ended up falling back down. Getting up there isn't going to easy.

"Might as well get comfortable, Cletus." Imperialdramon said as he had a seat on the ground. "This could take a while."

"In that case, I think I'll fix something up. Shellder's certainly going to be working up an appetite." Cletus said as he got a few things ready. Shellder kept trying and trying to get up that waterfall, but it was surely a struggle. However, Shellder wasn't going to give up. It kept doing the best it could to get up there and soon found it's rhythm. Shellder started swimming up the waterfall and was doing rather well.

"That's it, Shellder! You're doing great!" Davis said as it seemed like Shellder was making it. This look like it could be it. They all watched Shellder swim and was already about halfway up there. "You're almost there!"

"Shellder might actually make it!" Imperialdramon said as this was getting excited. Just as it seemed like it was going well, a Sludge attack came from above and blasted Shellder.

"Shellder!" Davis called as Shellder fell back in the water. "What just happened?!"

"Grimer!" They all looked at the top of the waterfall and saw a Grimer standing up there, laughing at Shellder's failure of making it.

"It's a Grimer!" Cletus said with Davis pulling out his pokedex.

"Grimer, the Sludge Pokemon. A poison-type. Being born from sludge, it is said a new poison can be made when two Grimers merge their bodies together."

"Why would it just attack like that?" Davis questioned.

"It thinks its funny." Imperialdramon said with Davis getting ready to make it pay for that. Cletus spotted Shellder in the river and didn't look so good. He hurried over and grabbed a hold of Shellder to see that attack did more damage than it looked.

"Davis, that Sludge attack caused Shellder to be poisoned. We need to hurry back to the pokemon center." Cletus said. Davis hated to leave like that, but Shellder's wellbeing comes first to him. That's why Davis just took Shellder from Cletus and hurried back to Nurse Joy despite the Grimer laughing at them.

The Pokemon Center

Once they got back to the center, they had Nurse Joy take another look at Shellder. Luckily, Nurse Joy was able to treat the poison and Shellder was doing much better.

"Shellder is going to be just fine." Nurse Joy said. "Still, I can't believe a Grimer would just attack like that. I never heard anything about one being out there and attacking like that before."

"That Grimer thought it was funny, but that wasn't funny at all." Imperialdramon said. "I say we go back and Shellder gives that Grimer what it's really asking for."

"There's no way to battle that Grimer and make it up that waterfall at the same time." Cletus said. "So, if Shellder wants to get to that water stone to evolve, we've got to figure out a way around that Grimer first. What do you say, Davis? What do you want to do?" This seemed like a good chance, but was it worth it? Davis thought about Tetsu and his upcoming battle. All the way in Floriba city, Tetsu was training hard with Feraligatr. Tetsu wants it to be a great battle just like Davis. Davis wants that too, but he doesn't want to place Shellder at risk.

"I would like to help Shellder evolve, but that waterfall is tough for Shellder to get up." Davis said. "That Grimer will make it more difficult." Davis would like to keep going and get to that stone, but he doesn't want Shellder to be put at risk. "Shellder, it's really your choice. Do you want to give another shot and evolve?"

"Shellder!" Shellder didn't even seem to think about it. Shellder was ready to get back out there and get another chance.

"Even so, we need to get around that Grimer somehow." Cletus said.

"It's basically a walking pile of sludge. It can't be all that smart." Davis said. "I bet if just one of us keeps it occupied, Shellder can make it up that waterfall for sure."

"Grimer would be the problem, but...I think you can leave that part to me." Cletus said as he has something in mind.

Stone Falls

Grimer just hung around at the falls like it liked the place. It just laid against the ground like it was soaking in some sun.

"Hey! Grimer!" Davis called and got it's attention as it looked straight down at him and his friends. "My Shellder is going to the top of the waterfall and you are not going to get in the way." Grimer just pulled its eyes down and stuck its tongue out. "Is that how it's going to be? You asked for it."

"Now Sandile!" Cletus called. That was right when Sandile shot straight out of the ground and knocked Grimer right off the cliff. "Go on, Davis. Get Shellder up there. I'll take care of that Grimer."

"Now's your chance, Shellder!" Davis said. Shellder went for it as Shellder jumped straight in the water and was starting to make it's way straight up.

"Sandile, Rock Tomb! Don't let Grimer get in the way!" Cletus ordered. Sandile helped out as it had some rocks fall straight down on Grimer, but Grimer jumped out of the way to avoid the rocks. It fought back as it did breathe out a poisonous gas right at Sandile. "It's using Poison Gas! Block it with Sand Tomb!" Sandile used its power over sand and was able to block the poison.

"Come on, Shellder! Keep going!" Davis encouraged as Shellder was still working up the waterfall. It was looking good. "Don't give up. Remember that I believe you can do this." Shellder was doing well with Davis' encouragement pushed it to do better, wants to be the pokemon its trainer believes it could be.

"Grimer!" Grimer fought back as it launched Sludge at them, but Sandile tried avoiding. However, one nearly hit Shellder and almost ruined it.

"Cletus!" Davis called.

"Keep going! I've got this!" Cletus said. "Sandile, Rock Tomb!" Sandile used the attack and had rocks smash around Grimer, but Grimer still wasn't giving up. "It's stubborn... I guess this might be the only way. Grimer is certainly an interesting pokemon." He said as he reached for a pokeball. "Let's go, pokeball!" He tossed the pokeball and it hit Grimer. When that happened, Grimer went inside. It shook around for a little and it looked like it worked. Grimer now belonged to Cletus. "Got it. My new Grimer." As for Shellder, it was close to the rock and now nothing could stop it.

"Go for it, Shellder!" Davis shouted. Shellder gave it one good jump and was able to land right on the rock with the water stone. "You made it!"

"Wow! Shellder actually did it!" Imperialdramon said. That was when Shellder began to glow and was changing forms as it now fully evolved.

"Cloyster!"

"You did it! You're a Cloyster now!" Davis cheered as his friend really managed to do it. He took out his pokedex and learned more about his new pokemon.

"Cloyster, the Bivalve Pokemon. A water and ice type, and the evolve form of Shellder. It attacks by being able to shoot spikes. It's innards have never been seen before."

"Incredible!" Cletsu said as he stood with his friends and saw something a little perculiar. "Take a look at the stone as well. Usually an evolution stone would disappear after being used, but it's still there. I wonder how that can be?"

"Who cares? Shellder is a Cloyster now!" Davis said. "Tetsu's going to be in for a real surprise." Davis was getting more excited about this now. However, Cloyster spoiled the moment as it jumped down and splashed water all over them. "After I dry off." Cloyster couldn't help but laugh after doing that.

Now that Cloyster has evolved, and Cletus having Grimer to come along for the ride, our heroes are continuning on with their journey. Tetsu will surely be surprised when he sees the changes to this little family. There's more big changes to come...as the journey continues.
