Flint and his Quilava waited as they were expecting some certain people to show.

"Flint! We're here!" Flint and Quilava turned around and could see them. Davis and the others were heading his way and they were all glad to see each other.

"Davis! Everyone! I'm glad you made it!" Flint said.

"Thanks for coming to meet us here. I knew once we got here, we had to meet up with you." Davis said.

"Who better to show us around, and show us to the gym than you." Tetsu said.

"You got that right." Flint said as they all stood near their destination. "Welcome to my home: Calforn City!" They all have finally arrived at Calforn City. Not only is it Flint's home, but it's also where Davis' final badge is being held.

A new adventure, another day

One more challenge that comes our way

Its up to me and you

I know what we've got to do

We are together now

(Davis' Voice) Model Mother

"Welcome to my sunny home. Here in Calforn City, the sun is usually shining and it's some fun in the sun." Flint said as he showed them around. They had a walk around it and they saw what they meat. Not only is the city on the beach, but it also holds palm trees, warm weather, and just beautiful. "This city is so well known for it's beautiful weather and much more that it became a popular vacation place."

"Oh man. My sisters would love it here." Tetsu said.

"It certainly is beautiful. I can see why so many would love it here." Cletus said.

"It's a great place to live, Flint, and you're really lucky to live in a place like this. However, I'm pretty interested in having my gym battle." Davis said as he was eager to have his battle.

"I would imagine. You mentioned on the phone that you were only one badge away from entering the Centros League. So am I." Flint said. "Quilava and I have been battling hard. Isn't that right?"

"Quilava!"

"And when I battle Mom for my eighth badge, it will certainly be awesome." Flint said.

"Another reason to be excited." Cletus said. "Your mother is the gym leader, and I heard that she's pretty strong."

"You wanted to be like her and that explains your type choice. Her gym specializes in fire-types." Tetsu remembered. "I take it that means we're in for a red hot battle."

"So, what are we waiting for? Let's go see your mom and we can have our battle!" Davis said as he was excited.

"Sorry, Davis. I talked to my mom earlier and she isn't able to have gym battles today. She's a little busy." Flint said with Davis getting bummed. "However, I do know where she is right now. I could take you guys to her and introduce you." That did sound just as good.

"So, when she's not a gym leader, what does she do?" Tetsu questioned as they were going to find out soon.

A Fashion Show

To the surprise of Davis and the others, Flint took them down to where a fashion show was taking place. They made their way through the crowd as they tried to get as close to the stage as they could.

"A fashion show? Your mother works here?" Cletus questioned.

"Yeah. Would you believe she's actually a model?" Flint said. That was actually a surprise to them since they didn't know that.

"No way! She's actually a gym leader AND a model?!" Imperialdramon said.

"Just watch. She should be showing up soon." Flint said as they all watched the show as they walked out on stage. Each of the models walked out with a pokemon. The outfits that the models were wearing perfectly complimented the pokemon they were walking with. "My mom likes modeling because the pokemon are added in. She finds beauty with pokemon and loves to show it."

"Which model is your mother?" Davis questioned.

"Here she comes now!" Flint said as they all looked at the stage. Walking out was a beautiful woman that wore a red dress with slits on the side with the straps hanging over her with red heels. She also had red gloves that reached her shoulders. Her tanned skin and long brunette hair complimented the dress rather well. Walking alongside her was an Arcanine with both of them strutting down the runway.

"Hold on! Your mother is Vanessa?! As in Miss Centros, the top model in the entire region?!" Tetsu said with the guys looking at him shocked that he would know that.

"How do you know that?" Davis questioned.

"You've met my sisters. How do you think?" Tetsu said.

"Well, it's true. That's my mother and her lovely Arcanine up there." Flint said with all of them amazed that Flint's mother is someone famous. "Mom! Hey! Over here!"

"Quilava!" They called when she and Arcanine got close enough.

"Flint!" Vanessa called as she was happy to see her son as she jumped right off the runway and got her arms around her son. "I'm so glad you could make it!"

"Easy, Mom. Don't embarrass me in front of my friends." Flint said. Quilava went up to greet Arcanine and Arcanine seemed happy to see them again.

"Uh... Hi there. We happen to be friends of Flint." Davis said with Vanessa noticing them.

"A pleasure to meet you. Flint told me you all were coming." Vanessa said. As she stood there, Davis got a good look to see what he was up against. She seemed rather nice, but that doesn't mean she isn't powerful.

Later

"Flint contacted me and told me you all were coming over." Vanessa said. After the fashion show was over, Vanessa met up with the boys and were talking to them about what has been happening and lately and to see what Vanessa is like. "He told me a lot about you boys, especially you, Davis. He told me you're planning to enter the Centros League."

"That's right. That's also one of the reasons I came out here." Davis said. "I was hoping I could challenge you to a battle, Vanessa. I heard you're quite the battler, so I want to see how true that is."

"I see. You're quite ambitious and filled with passion for battle, just like Flint said." Vanessa acknowledged. "Flint has always had a strong passion for battling. He watched my gym battles as much as he could and always loved it."

"That's because it was always fun watching battles." Flint said.

"Really? You mean you didn't enjoy watching your mother in action?" Vanessa teased to try and embarrass Flint.

"My older sisters love your work as a model, but I don't think they're too familiar with you being a gym leader." Tetsu said. "What's it like being both?"

"Well, it does have some ups and downs...as you can see." Vanessa said as she gestured to the side and they all saw a bunch of fans trying to get a look at Vanessa and tried getting some photos. "It's not easy being a top model and a gym leader, but I find ways to make it work. I rather enjoy it since I believe beauty is power."

"Beauty is power?" Davis questioned.

"What does that mean?" Cletus asked.

"A common misconception is that some people believe that something beautiful means that it isn't powerful, smart, or strong. I don't believe that's the case." Vanessa said. "Pokemon can be beautiful and powerful at the same time. If anything, they're beauty can become power depending on how you can use it and bring it out."

"I think I get it. Davis, it's sort of like how Kari and May worked as coordinators." Imperialdramon claimed.

"Exactly. Coordinators are a good example of that." Vanessa said. "It might not be easy being both, but I find ways to make it work. That's why I have pokemon like Arcanine. She cane be stylish and powerful." She said.

"Rar..." Seeing this incredible pokemon, Davis pulled out his pokedex and tried learning more about it.

"Arcanine, the Legendary Pokemon. A fire-type, and the evolve form of Growlithe. It is used in many stories for people are amazed by it's grace and beauty. It's bark gives a sense of majesty."

"I can see why you think so highly of Arcanine." Cletus said as he walked over to Arcanine and got a good look at it. "You've done an excellent job of caring for it. It's coat looks shiny and healthy, and it certainly does look powerful."

"Beauty that can also be powerful, and quite admirable in battle. Ha, my sisters could learn a thing or two from you." Tetsu said.

"All the more reason I want to battle right now!" Davis said as he was getting fired up. "Vanessa, you've got to battle me!"

"Hold on! She's my mother, so I should get to battle her first!" Flint said. "Mom, I want to be a strong gym leader like you. That's why I specialize in fire-types. You've got to battle me because I want to show how strong I've gotten and prove that I'm worthy to become a gym leader."

"Flint..." Vanessa said as she could see how important this was to Flint, how determined he was, and how passionate about battling he is. "Okay."

"Really?!" Flint said as he was excited.

"I don't have time for an official gym battle, but I always make time for my son." Vanessa said. A battle between mother and son sounds like it could be a good one.

...

A Battlefield

They were able to find an open space for a battle with Davis and the others watching. They're choices were already made. It was going to be Quilava vs. Arcanine.

"I am rather interested to see how strong Quilava has become." Vanessa said as she remembered the day she gave Cyndaquil to Flint. "You already did a good job raising the Cyndaquil I gave you for it to become a Quilava. Now, come and get us."

"Okay, Quilava. This is the moment we've been waiting for!" Flint said.

"Quilava!"

"Quilava, start out with Flame Wheel!" Flint said as the battle was starting. Quilava rolled around in a wheel of fire and smashed right against Arcanine, but Arcanine was able to push Quilava off.

"It's not very effective." Tetsu said.

"They're fellow fire-types. Their attacks won't be effective against each other." Cletus said.

"I know beating Arcanine is not going to be easy, but we can do this! Quilava, Swift!" Flint said. Quilava jumped in the air and unleashed a series of stars against Arcanine. The stars all blasted against Arcanine, but Arcanine was able to endure all of them and wasn't bothered by it.

"I believe it's our turn to attack. Arcanine, Aerial Ace!" Vanessa ordered.

"Aerial Ace?!" Davis said as that was a shock. Arcanine looked like she was flying as she smashed right against Quilava. It also looked like it did a lot of damage.

"Quilava, are you okay?!" Flint said as Quilava tried getting back up. "We're not giving up! Quilava let's try using Swift again!"

"Quilava!" Quilava didn't want to let its trainer as it jumped in the air and unleashed the attack again.

"Arcanine, let's use Crunch!" Vanessa said. Arcanine charged right through the stars and jumped up at Quilava with its teeth. She crunched down on Quilava and appeared to do massive damage. Quilava was thrown to the ground and the battle was over just like that.

"Quilava!" Flint called as he hurried over and helped his partner up.

"Is Quilava okay?" Davis asked as his friends gathered around.

"I think, but oh man. I thought we were stronger." Flint said.

"I'm starting to see what your mother was talking about. Her Arcanine doesn't just look beautiful, but it's also quite powerful." Cletus said. Flint was still rather upset that he didn't win. He was waiting for a moment like this and it ended up blowing in his face.

"Hey. Don't look so upset." Davis said. "So you didn't win. You surely had to have known how strong your mother was. It doesn't mean you won't win next time."

"Yeah. It might not be easy, but you're a passionate battler. You'll get stronger and you'll be the gym leader yourself one day." Imperialdramon encouraged.

"We both have strong passion for battling. A flame inside us that will never go out." Davis said. "I do get how you feel, but as long as we keep that flame going, you and I can reach the goals we wanted for." Those words actually did make Flint feel better.

"You're right." Flint said.

"Davis would know. He's so fired up that someone needs to call the fire department to cool him down." Tetsu said. "He's the hottest hothead I know."

"Hey!" Davis said with everyone laughing. Vanessa was rather enjoying what she was seeing. She thinks her son has grown on his journey, and especially likes that he's made some great friends.

"I guess I still have a long way to go, but we'll get there." Flint said as he petted Quilava on the head. "I'm also not going to lose to you, Davis. I know your gym battle is coming up, but I'll get my eighth badge. When we battle, I'll be be even stronger than I was now."

"I have no doubt about it." Davis said as he loved seeing his rival get fired up.

"Davis..." Vanessa said as she came over. She was most pleased with her son, but there was another matter. "I'll see you tomorrow for that gym battle." She claimed and turned away. Davis was getting fired up himself. He's seen how strong Vanessa is and she is certainly a worthy challenge for his final badge. It will almost be time.

After meeting Flint's mother, Davis now sees that he has a tough battle coming up. Of course, the tougher the battle, the more excited he is that he gets. What can we expect in an upcoming gym battle? You'll just have to wait and find out for yourselves.
