Our heroes have arrived at Troja Island so that Davis can try his first challenge in Pokemon Grand Orientation. They all can't wait to see what it is Davis is going to do exactly.

"According to the map. It should be just ahead." Tetsu said as they were all walking down a path. They could see a pink building by the water.

"That must be the first facility! Awesome! I can't wait to see what kind of battle we're going to have here." Davis said.

"Hold on a minute, Davis. Remember what we were told." Tetsu claimed. "In this facility, you can only use water-type pokemon. The only one you have is Cloyster. It also sounds like you might be doing more than just battling. It's not like taking on a gym."

"Don't worry about all of that. I gave Professor Oak a call and switched out my pokemon." Davis said. "It also doesn't matter what I have to do. I'm getting that pass." He said as he was confident he can take on anything.

(Davis' voice) Check and Point

"Hello? Is anyone home?" Davis questioned as they all went on in the building. "I came to challenge this place to get a gem pass!" He called, but it didn't seem like anyone was home.

"Is this place open today?" Imperialdramon questioned.

"It must be. The door was unlocked." Tetsu said.

"Hey! Look over here!" Cletus called as he came across a room. All of them had a look inside and saw a large pool with platforms. "I take it this is the battlefield, but that's not pool water. I can tell that it's ocean water."

"Ocean water? Does that mean it's connected directly outside?" Tetsu wondered. As all of them were wondering what this was about, they all saw someone in a diving suit emerged out of the water.

"Who are all of you?" The diver questioned. The diver pulled off the mask and goggles to show that it was a girl with wavy red hair. "What's going on? What are all of you doing in here?"

"Uh... Sorry, but the door was open and we let ourselves in." Davis said. "We were told that this is a facility for Pokemon Grand Orientation and I want to challenge it. My name is Davis by the way."

"I see. Well, you happen to be speaking to the person in charge." The woman admitted. "My name is Erin, and I'm the one who runs this place. If you want to get a gem pass, you have to beat me."

"Great. So let's get started." Davis said as he was ready to go.

"Sure, but give me a moment." Erin said as she climbed out of the pool. "I need to at least change out of this. I can't exactly battle dressed like this." She helped herself as she went on over to a changing room and they can just wait.

"Erin, what were you doing down there?" Tetsu asked as they waited for her.

"Doing a little exploring since that pool is connected to the ocean outside." Erin said from behind a curtain. "You see, I love the ocean because there's so much to see and so much that has yet to be discovered. Did you know that only about ten percent of the ocean has been explored? That means there's so much down there that has yet to be seen."

"That sounds cool, but I'm more interested in our battle." Davis said as he was getting a little impatient.

"Calm down. I'm coming out." Erin said as she stepped out in a black top with a pink skirt and white shoes. "So, have you challenged any of the other facilities, Davis?"

"No. This is my first one." Davis answered.

"I see... Well, you should know that we do things a little differently around here." Erin said. "Frist thing you should know is that you can only battle me using water-type pokemon."

"I'm already aware of that, and I came prepared." Davis said.

"Good. Well, allow me to explain how this works." Erin said. "There are two parts to this challenge and you have to beat me in both using only water-type pokemon."

"Just got to beat you in both challenges? Easy and done." Davis claimed.

"We'll see about that. Luckily for you, the first part will be an actual battle." Erin said as she took her position at the pool. "We battle using water-types in a one-on-one battle. You beat me in that, we advance to the second part of this challenge."

"A regular battle? I can do that!" Davis said as he took his position and was pumped for this. Now we will see what a challenge in Pokemon Grand Orientation is really like.

"Well, we can get started right now. Here is the pokemon I will be using. Gyarados!" Erin called.

"AAARRRGGGHHH!"

"Gyarados is up first, is that right? What a way to start my first challenge." Davis said as he got his pokeball ready. "Cloyster, you're up!"

"Cloyster!" Cloyster landed right on one of the platforms and was ready to go.

"A Cloyster... Strong defense, but let's see if it will be enough. Time to see if you really have what it takes to take on Pokemon Grand Orientation!" Erin claimed. "Gyarados, start by using Draogn Breath!"

"AAARRRGGGHHH!" Gyarados started this battle as it breathed out some powerful breath.

"Ice Beam!" Davis said as Cloyster fought back. The two attacks collided and tried to push the other back.

"Gyarados, under the water!" Erin called as Gyarados stopped it's attack and dived under the water with the Ice Beam just barely missing it.

"Where is it?" Davis questioned as he and Cloyster kept their eyes open for where Gyarados might come up from.

"Even thought Cloyster is a water-type, it can't really swim like most water-types since it's body is mostly a shell." Tetsu said.

"That puts Davis at a disadvantage. How is he suppose to battle against a Gyarados like this?" Imperialdramon questioned as he didn't like this.

"Gyarados, come on out and use Aqua Tail!" Erin ordered. Gyarados emerged right out of the water right under Cloyster and knocked Cloyster in the air. After that, Gyarados had water surround its tail and smashed it against Cloyster with Cloyster being knocked even higher. "Now you've got them! Give them your Crunch!" Gyarados stretched out for Cloyster with its teeth.

"Iron Defense, quick!" Davis called. Cloyster closed its shell and hardened it just as Gyarados bit its teeth down on him. Gyarados thrashed around like Cloyster was a chew toy, but Cloyster was holding on. "Hang in there, Cloyster. We'll get an opening."

"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you!" Erin called. Gyarados gave Cloyster a good throw with Cloyster landing on one of the platforms. "Let's see how you handle this attack. Gyarados, Thunder Fang!" Gyarados had electricity course through its teeth and was going to take another bite out of Cloyster.

"Gyarados knows an electric attack?!" Tetsu said as they were all surprised that Gyarados can use an attack like that.

"This could be it!" Imperialdramon said as this wasn't good for Davis.

"Ice Shard right in Gyarados' mouth!" Davis called.

"Cloyster!" Cloyster fired a shard of ice and it landed right in Gyarados' mouth with it stopping the attack.

"Now use Ice Beam! Blast it right in that spot!" Davis called. Cloyster fired a beam of ice and blasted Gyarados right in the mouth again with all of it being frozen. Gyarados' mouth was completely unusable. No one expected something like that.

"Gyarados' mouth is completely frozen!" Tetsu said.

"It's going to be hard to bite down on anything now!" Cletus said.

"Ice Shard once more, and shoot it as hard as you can!" Davis called. Cloyster fired another shard of ice and fired it as hard as Cloyster could. It smashed right against the ice against Gyarados and caused some real damage to be done and also caused Gyarados to be knocked out of the battle.

"It looks like Gyarados is beaten!" Imperialdramon said.

"Pretty impressive, Davis. I wasn't expecting Gyarados' mouth to be frozen." Erin said.

"It did look like Gyarado's best attacks were those biting attacks, so I figured taking them out would be a big help." Davis said.

"Not bad. Not bad at all." Erin complimented. "You managed to pass the first part of this challenge, but the second challenge will be a little trickier. For the second part, we need to take this outside in the actual ocean." In the actual ocean? This sounds like it could be interesting. All of the moved outside with both of them standing on platforms and there was a basketball hoop out there.

"What is this?" Davis questioned.

"The second part." Erin said. "Here's how it works. There's a ball tied under the water. We both use a pokemon to dive under it, but they're allowed to attack each other. The one who is able to shoot the basketball into the hoop is the one who wins."

"This is certainly a twist." Tetsu said.

"So it's also a game." Cletus said.

"Let's see how you deal with this challenge. Floatzel, you're up!" Erin called as she chose her pokemon.

"Floatzel!" Bringing out that pokemon had Davis check it out on the pokedex.

"Floatzel, the Sea Weasel Pokemon. A water-type, and the evolve form of Buizel. With its flotation sac, it can dive out to oceans and rescue people."

"Looks tough, but we've got this. Golduck, I choose you!" Davis called.

"Golduck!"

"Wow! Davis has a Golduck!" Tetsu said.

"Golduck are considered to be incredible swimmers. He might have a real chance with this one." Cletus said.

"Let's do this, Golduck. Just like the old times. Get that ball and score us a point!" Davis said. Golduck agreed as Golduck dived down.

"Get them, Floatzel!" Erin said as Floatzel dived down as well. Golduck and Floatzel dived down and were both heading for the ball down at the bottom.

"Golduck, stop Floatzel in it's tracks with Confusion!" Davis called. Golduck used the power of it's mind and was able to stop Floatzel right in its tracks while it dived down for the ball. Golduck was able to swim for the ball and pulled it right out. "Good! Now go for the basket!"

"I don't think so! Floatzel, Aqua Jet and steal the ball from them!" Erin called. Floatzel surrounded itself with water and broke free from the grip as it swam straight at Golduck and smashed against it. When that happened, Floatzel took the ball and was going for a score itself.

"After them and use Slash! Get that ball back!" Davis called.

"Golduck!" Golduck swam up to Floatzel and was able to catch it. Golduck slashed against Floatzel, but Floatzel was still holding the ball.

"Use Slash again!" Davis called. Golduck slashed against Floatzel and was able to get the ball away from Floatzel.

"Shake Golduck off by using Double Hit!" Erin called. Floatzel used its tail and smacked it a couple times with Golduck. "Now use Razor Wind!" Floatzel's fins extended and threw them at Golduck. Goluck took the attack and some damage was dealt. When that happened, Golduck was knocked back and Floatzel went for the ball.

"Golduck, use Confusion on the ball!" Davis called. Golduck used its psychic-powers once again and was able to bring the ball around Floatzel and was heading for Golduck.

"Use Whirlpool and stop them!" Erin called. Floatzel formed a whirlpool and was able to created it right at Golduck. Golduck and the ball got caught in the current and was being swirled around with Floatzel taking the ball. "I think it's game over."

"Don't underestimate my Golduck!" Davis called. "Golduck, Confusion! Bring Floatzel in and smash it with Focus Punch!" Golduck fought through the whirlpool and was able to break free. When that happened, Golduck used Confusion once more and was able to grab Floatzel and pull it back in. Once Floatzel was close enough, Golduck smashed a power-up fist right against Floatzel and take the ball back with Floatzel crashing against the ocean floor. With that done, Golduck was heading for the basket. "Yeah! Now score a basket and win this!"

"Stop them with Aqua Jet!" Erin called. Floatzel pulled itself together and swam straight at Golduck with the attack.

"Use that Aqua Jet to your advantage!" Davis called with all of them wondering how to do that. Golduck let the attack come, but Golduck used it. When they were near the surface, Golduck bounced off of Floatzel and jumped right out of the water. Golduck slammed down the ball like a basketball pro and scored Davis the win. "Yeah! We score and win!"

"Unbelievable! They used the momentum of our attack to their advantage!" Erin said.

"What a battle!" Tetsu said as they all loved it.

"What a way to have a battle between water-types!" Imperialdramon said.

"Golduck, awesome work!" Davis said as Golduck swam over to him and Davis hugged his partner. This means Davis cleared his first challenge in Pokemon Grand Orientation. When it was over, they all moved back to the shore.

"That was incredible work, Davis." Erin said. "I've never faced a challenger like you. It would seem that just like exploring the ocean, there are many things to discover with trainers. Well, here is proof that you cleared the challenge here. This is the Ruby Pass." She said as she handed him a round badge-like piece that was designed like a ruby gem.

"Thanks a lot, Erin." Davis said as he took it.

"Wow. It almost looks like a real gem." Tetsu said.

"It's beautiful." Cletus said.

"It sure is. Yeah, I got the Ruby Pass!" Davis cheered.

"Awesome work!" Imperialdramon claimed.

"Golduck/Cloyster!"

"You may have cleared this challenge, but you still need to pass the other three is you're going to clear this." Erin said. "The next facility would be at Masro Island. It won't be the same as it was here."

"Thanks, Erin. One down and three to go. I can't wait to see what else they have to offer." Davis said as he was getting more and more excited.

Davis has cleared the first challenge of Pokemon Grand Orientation. That leaves only three left. Who knows what kind of challenges await him. Stay tune to find out.
