Our heroes are about to arrive on Masro Island for Davis' second challenge in Pokemon Grand Orientation. Not sure what kind of challenge is in store for them, he'll have to be ready for anything.
"There it is." Davis said as they were all riding on a small boat and were about to reach the island with it looking like there was a large rock formation in the center of it. "I can't wait for the second challenge."
"Is there really a facility? It doesn't look like there's anything on this island?" Tetsu said.
"I'm sure we'll find out soon enough." Cletus said.
"Hold on. It looks like there's someone else on the island." Imperialdramon said as they spotted someone. It looked like a young lady with sandy brown hair tied back. She looked like a mountain hiker with a blue buttoned shirt with shorts and wore hiking boots.
"Who could that?" Davis questioned.
So you want to be Master of Pokemon
Do you have the skills to be Number One
I wanna take the ultimate step

(Davis' voice) Climbing to Victory
The boat soon docked on the island and they all climbed off. When they did, they went straight over to the lady they saw.
"Excuse me! Hello!" Davis called as they all hurried over to her and got her attention.
"Yes? Is there something I can help you with?" The lady asked.
"Yeah. I'm here to take part in Pokemon Grand Orientation and I'm going for my second pass." Davis said. "I was told that there's a facility on this island. Do you know where it is?"
"Facility? You mean a building? Sorry, but there's no building on this island." The lady said. That was upsetting and confusing. No building? That means there's no facility?
"How can that be? We were told this is Masro Island and that Masro Island is the site for one of the Pokemon Grand Orientation Facilities." Tetsu said. "Did we get the wrong island or something?"
"Nope. This is Masro Island." The lady said, but they all still didn't get it. "There's no building on this island, but that doesn't matter. The truth is that the whole island is the facility itself." The whole island is the facility? That means there wouldn't be much need for a building.
"The whole island is the facility? Hold on. Who are you?" Cletus questioned.
"My name is Diana. I'm the one in charge around here." She introduced as that was clearing things up. "So, it looks like I have another challenger. Tell me a bit about yourself."
"My name is Davis. I come from Kanto, but I recently competed in the Centros League." Davis said. "I made it all the way to the final four."
"Sounds like I might have a tough one." Diana said. "Okay, Davis. Let's see what you can really do. You're challenge can start right now if you want."
"Just like that? Straight to business?" Tetsu questioned as he found that rather direct.
"That's just the way I like it." Davis said as he was excited.
"I don't like to waste time myself." Diana said. "Here's how your challenge works. All you have to do is make your way up there." She said as she pointed to the top of the rock formation on the island. "You just need to climb up there. However, there will be three pokemon in your way. For you to clear this challenge, you need to defeat all three of them."
"Just defeat three of them? That doesn't sound too hard." Davis said.
"You're free to use any pokemon you have on you, but there is a catch." Diana claimed. "You can't lose any of your pokemon. If just one of your pokemon is defeated, you automatically fail the challenge." That sounded like a big condition they weren't expecting.
"Not one of his pokemon can be defeated or he loses the challenge?" Cletus said.
"If that's the condition, those three pokemon have got to be pretty strong." Tetsu said.
"Well, I didn't come this far to turn back now. I'll take them on." Davis said as he didn't waver. "The bigger the challenge, the more I'm willing to take it on."
"Well, let's see if you can back that talk." Diana said as she was going to find this amusing. "You can start over there, and I'll be going with you." She said as she pointed to a path that leads into the woods. "Follow the path and you'll soon find yourself at the top. As for your friends, I placed a set of stairs myself on the other side of the beach. They can just climb them and meet you at the top."
"Sounds good to me." Tetsu said.
"We'll see you up there, Davis." Cletus said as they just went on ahead to the stairs. Seems like Diana doesn't want to wait around and neither does Davis. As his friends took the shortcut, he and Diana stood at the start of the path.
"If you want to turn back, I won't judge you." Diana said.
"No way. Let's go." Davis said as he went on right ahead with Diana and Imperialdramon following. All he had to do was follow the path, but he doesn't know what pokemon he should be looking for that are meant to be obstacles.
"I don't suppose you can tell us what pokemon we're suppose to be battling, could you?" Imperialdramon questioned.
"You'll find out soon enough." Diana said. "In fact, one of them should be here soon." When she said that, Davis readied himself. They kept their eyes open until they heard something move through the shrubs. "Here's the first one." They all watched and saw that it was actually an Ursaring.
"Ring!"
"An Ursaring!" Davis said.
"That's it? We've taken tougher pokemon than that." Imperialdramon said.
"Yeah! Let's take this big guy! Galvantula, I choose you!" Davis called.
"Galvantula!"
"Let's get this over with! Galvantula, Electro Ball!" Davis called. Galvantula attacked as it launched a ball of electricity, but Ursaring fought back as it slashed right through the Electro Ball like it was nothing. They certainly didn't expect that. Ursaring fought back as it used Hammer Arm right on Galvantula's head and it looked like it did some decent damage. "Okay... Maybe this won't be as easy as I thought. That Ursaring has some power. That doesn't mean we're backing down! Now use Electro Web!" Galvantula fired an electrical web and caught Ursaring with it with Ursaring getting electrocuted. "Now use Poison Jab!" Galvantula charged with its manidbles powered by poison and smashed it against Ursaring, but Ursaring still looked willing to battle as it used Slash against Galvantula and even more damage was dealt.
"Poor Galvantula isn't looking so good." Diana said like she was testing him. Galvantula did seem to have a problem getting back up. If just one pokemon is defeated, he loses the challenge.
"Galvantula, return!" Davis said as he quickly brought Galvantula back.
"I'm ready, Davis." Imperialdramon said as he looked ready for a battle.
"No... That Ursaring has some power. I think I'm going to need some speed for this one." Davis said as he went with a different pokemon. "Growlithe, I choose you!"
"Growlithe!"
"Now use Fire Spin!" Davis called. Growlithe breathed a spiraling flame and blasted Ursaring, but Ursaring pushed through the flames and tried attacking Growlithe. "Agility!" Davis called. Growlithe moved out of the way quickly as Ursaring tried attacking. Ursaring kept attacking Growlithe by slashing its claws, but Growlithe kept moving and kept dodging each attack. "Growlithe, keep moving like that! Just a little more!" Growlithe kept moving and Ursaring didn't catch on to anything until it was too late. Growlithe dodged another attack and Ursaring ended up smashing itself into a tree. "Now use Flame Charge and strike as hard as you can!" Growlithe encased itself in flames and charged straight at Ursaring. Growlithe smashed against Ursaring at full force. Ursaring ended up hitting its head against the tree and was knocked out. "Yeah! Great work, boy!"
"Not bad. Battling power with speed, and rather cunning." Diana said as she seemed rather impressed. That's one down and only two to go.
...
The Mountain Side
Davis and Diana made their way through the forest and were now heading their way up to the top on another part of the path.
"Hey, can I ask you something, Diana?" Davis said. "What's the point of this challenge exactly? In the last one, I had a battle and played a little game. What's the deal with this challenge?"
"It's a good way to test your endurance, both you and your pokemon." Diana said. "Not every challenge in Pokemon Grand Orientation is the same, and a real trainer needs to be able to adapt." That makes sense to Davis, and he's going to get another chance. The ground began to shake and something emerged right in front of them. It ended up being an Onix.
"Roooor!"
"There's your next obstacle." Diana said.
"An Onix? That's no problem. Gogoat, let's go!" Davis called.
"Rrrreeeggghhh!"
"Gogoat?" Diana questioned.
"I switched a couple of my pokemon around thinking it would be a big help." Davis said. "Looks like I was right. Gogoat, Vine Whip!" Gogoat stretched out its vines and tried to grab Onix, but Onix used Iron Tail and smacked the vines away. Onix didn't stop there. It stretched out its tail and used Bind against Gogoat, putting on a good squeeze on Gogoat. "Gogoat, get out of there! Try and drain Onxi's power with Horn Leech!" Gogoat tried to fight through Onix's bind and fired a beam from it's horns, but Onix moved it's head and was able to avoid that attack.
"That Onix is tough and quick on it's feet, and it doesn't even have feet!" Imperialdramon claimed.
"Darn it. What to do?" Davis said as he tried to figure that out.
"You know, you actually can use more than one pokemon." Diana said. "I should have told you that sooner."
"I can use more than one? In that case... Tyrantrum, I choose you!" Davis called.
"Tyrantrum!"
"Tyrantrum, use Crunch and get Gogoat out of there!" Davis called. Tyrantrum charged right at Onix and crunched its teeth down on Onix. It caused some damage and managed to get Gogoat out of there. "Nice work! Now use Vine Whip, Gogoat!" Gogoat stretched out the vines again and smacked Onix. "Now use Stone Edge, Tyrantrum!" Tyrantrum stomped on the ground and caused rocks to shoot out from the ground and smashed against Onix. Both of them were dealing some damage, but Onix wasn't giving up. Onix began to use Sandstorm and have it spread through the area.
"Onix is using Sandstorm! I can't see anything!" Imperialdramon said. Diana stayed clam as she tried to see what Davis was going to do next.
"Gogoat, use Vine Whip before you lose sight of Onix!" Davis called. Gogoat tried to keep its eyes right on Onix. Gogoat stretched out it's vines and was able to latch on with Onix. "Good, Gogoat! Don't let go! Tyrantrum, you use Head Smash! Gogoat, Horn Leech!" Gogoat fired a beam from its horns and blasted Onix with it as Onxi's energy was beginning to drain. As for Tyrantrum, energy erupted around him and charged right at Onix. Tyrantrum smashed its head right against Onix and caused a large explosion to go off. Onix ended up taking a lot of damage with Onix collapsing and was knocked out of the battle.
"It looks like Onix is done as well. Pretty good, Davis." Diana said. "You've beaten two of the three pokemon."
"Heck yeah I did." Davis said as he was doing pretty good himself. "Gogoat and Tyrantrum, nice work." He said as he petted both of them. "Thanks a lot for coming, you two." Both of them were glad to help him out and Diana was most impressed with what she's seen.
...
The Top
Cletus and Tetsu were waiting for Davis and the others at the top and hoped that Davis did rather well. After waiting for a while, they could see them coming up.
"Davis! Hey! Did you make it yet?!" Tetsu called.
"Almost! I beat two of the pokemon and only have one more to go." Davis said. When he said that, he realized something that was a little perplexing. "Hold on a minute. Diana, you said I had to beat three pokemon. Where's the last one?"
"Don't worry. You'll get that battle, but I want to say a couple things first." Diana said as she walked ahead. "I must admit that I'm a little impressed, Davis. It's been a while since I've seen a challenger with your kind of resolve. You and your pokemon are tougher than I thought, and I raised that Ursaring and Onix myself."
"Oh... Thanks." Davis said as he was feeling good about himself.
"When I first started on a journey, I wanted to skip formalities and go straight into the battle." Diana said. "It was like a fun video game and I never wanted to put it down, wanted to skip straight to the fun and the action. So, I went on with my journey just like that. I kept battling and battling and I kept going like that with it helping me compete in the Centros League...and win it."
"You won the Centros League?!" Davis said as he and the others were shocked to hear that.
"I surely did. After that, I started winning battle after battle, barely losing any pokemon." Diana claimed. "That's how I got the idea for this challenge. I want to see if you really have what it takes to be a winner. Defeating my last pokemon without losing any of yours will surely show that."
"Well, I'll take down whoever it is." Davis said. "Well, who is it? Where is it?"
"Here it comes right now." Diana said. Suddenly, Davis felt something flew pass him. Whatever it was kept spinning around until it stopped near Diana and it ended up being a Claydol.
"Claydol!"
"A Claydol!" Cletus said.
"This is your last challenge, Davis. You just need to beat my Claydol." Diana said.
"Not a problem, and I have one pokemon that has the advantage and hasn't battled yet. Mightyena, let's go!" Davis called.
"Might!"
"Mightyena... You might have the advantage, but that doesn't mean you can win. Cladydol, show them what I mean." Diana said and Claydol started the battle. Claydol's eyes shined a rainbow light and shined around Mightyena.
"Mightyena, Iron Tail!" Davis called. Mightyena charged right at Claydol with it's tail, but Claydol used Rapid Spin and was able to deflect the attack. "Claydol has some power, but we have the advantage."
"Not quite. Show them, Claydol." Diana claimed. That was when Claydol aimed with its arms and used Psybeam, but the weird thing was that Mightyena actually got blasted by it and was taking damage.
"What the heck?! How is a psychic-attack working on Mightyena?!" Davis said.
"There's no way it should!" Tetsu said.
"Unless... I think Claydol used Miracle Eye earlier!" Cletus said. "That had to have been that light! It's a move that makes dark-types vulnerable to psychic-type attacks!" With a move like that, it changes the battle. Claydol kept firing at Mightyena and Mightyena kept taking damage. It was about to get worse as they saw Claydol was switching to Hyper Beam and Mightyena has already taken so much damage.
"Imperialdramon, you're the only one who hasn't battled yet! Get in there and help Mightyena!" Davis said and that's what Imperialdramon did. Just as Claydol fired Hyper Beam, Imperialdramon made it in just time and shielded Mightyena from the attack. "Mightyena, Dark Pulse!" Mightyena took the opportunity to counter as it fired its dark beam and blasted Claydol with it. "Imperialdramon, Focus Punch!" Imperialdramon joined the battle as it jumped at Claydol and smashed his fist against it. Claydol ended up crashing into the ground and they thought that did it.
"Is it over?" Cletus questioned, but it was not as Claydol got back up and used Rapid Spin and smashed against both pokemon with some fierce power. "That Claydol really knows how to spin. Diana must have trained it really hard."
"Heads up! It's coming back around!" Davis warned as Claydol used Rapid Spin again, but both of his pokemon moved out of the way. Claydol made the situation worse as it started using Psybeam as well. "You've got to be kidding! It's attacking while it's spinning?!" That wasn't good. Imperialdramon and Mightyena were doing their best to avoid the attacks, but there was a problem. Mightyena already took some serious damage and didn't look like it was going to last much longer. 'Mightyena isn't going to be able to take much more. I need to end this, but how do I...' He tried to think of a plan until it hit him. "Imperialdramon, get right over Claydol and use Brick Break! Aim right for the center!"
"Got it!" Imperialdramon said as he flew straight up and got right above Claydol while it was still spinning. Imperialdramon came straight down and smashed its arm right against Claydol. It actually got Claydol to stop spinning.
"What happened?!" Tetsu questioned.
"The sudden force of the attack got Claydol to stop spinning!" Cletus said.
"Finish this with Dark Pulse, Mightyena!" Davis ordered. Mightyena fired Dark Pulse at full power and blasted Claydol with it and dealt some massive damage with it. It was just enough for Claydol to be knocked out. With Claydol defeated, that can only mean one thing.
"Claydol can't battle anymore!" Cletus said.
"It can't? That means... We did it! We managed to beat all three pokemon!" Davis cheered. He cleared the second challenge and has won. Diana was most impressed. Davis clearly has what it takes to be a winner.
"Nicely done." Diana said as she helped her Claydol and brought it back to it's pokeball. "You are one tough trainer, Davis. Your pokemon are most impressive as well. That's why you earned this." She said as she handed him the pass. "The Sapphire Pass is yours. It's proof that you cleared my challenge." She said as she handed another pass designed after a sapphire gem.
"Thanks a lot, Diana." Davis said as he took it. "Yeah! My second pass! The Sapphire Pass is now mine!"
"Yeah! That makes two!" Imperialdramon cheered as this was a big step for them.
This challenge has really tested Davis' endurance and resolve, and he passed with flying colors. With two passes now, he has only two more to go. What other kind of adventures and excitement can we expect? Stay tune to find out.
